Finally true Neapolitan wood-fired pizza in the north end. Smoked mozzarella really complimented the pepperoni, pickled red peppers, and Fresno chili pizza. The crust is delicate with just the right amount of char to let the freshness of the San Marzano tomatoes shine through. I could eat an entire crust with no toppings it's that good. To a lot of people, crust is crust and dough is dough but if you've ever made pizza dough from scratch, you'll appreciate the pizza here. The arugula salad was plentifully topped with grapefruit for a nice balance of flavors. Even the ice tea was noticeably good (tasted like sun tea). One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a long time. Note: the arugula salad on the side isn't anything to write home about. I added it to my breakfast sandwich, which was a nice touch of freshness. I didn't care to finish the rest of the greens. My wife ordered a delicious BLT (also with arugula salad). It had a perfect balance of B to L to T. The garlic mayo and toasted bread made it a winner. I'll be sure to order a BLT (add an egg) next I'm at TGH. It was national chocolate chip cookie day so we ordered a couple freshly baked cookies. My wife said it was better than The Cookie at Metropolitan Market. High praise in my opinion. I went out on a limb and ordered a Bloody Mary (FIRST TIME!!!) with a beer back. Not my favorite drink but it was well made and I understood what I was getting into. I've been here twice. Once for breakfast with a friend and my husband, and once on a dinner date. The Guest House became a dinner option after enjoying the food at breakfast and the even more impressive and remarkable service. Breakfast consisted of the vegetarian breakfast sandwich. Which was tasty. Perhaps a bit more buttery than I would prefer, but my guess is that I fall in the minority there. We also got a housemade chai latte, which was decent but not particularly outstanding. However, once the chai was gone, a waiter who was walking around filling drip coffees offered to fill up the chai cup, noting that he knew we had a chai, but would we like some coffee? YES!!! This won my heart. And forced me to return for dinner. Dinner was great. I couldn't decide which of two wine if prefer, and the waitress who was knowledgeable herself, willingly brought me two sample pours so I could decide for myself. She did this with no complaints, and a smile on her face. Winner! We also got the Citrus 75 cocktail which was amazing! So so good! The little bit of heat on the back end just put this cocktail over the top! The only think I would suggest here is that it be served with a couple tall cocktail straws, as it was hard to get to the bottom of the cocktail without getting into an argument with the ice cubes... For food we got the mushroom pizza and the house salad. The salad was good, but not particularly exciting - which isn't a knock against it as very few restaurants have outstanding house salads. The pizza was good, a touch greasy on the top, but a really nice crispy crust. Desserts weren't enticing to me, but I caught a glimpse of the pancakes when I was at breakfast and they looked great, so that'll happen next time for sure! read more

I've been twice now. This is a quaint limited menu restaurant in a great location. There is a lot of potential here should the owners match the needs of the community. The staff is friendly and service is good. The food is quality and thoughtful and pricey for what you get. It's not seeking to be a budget restaurant but if they don't either make something special that people will want to keep returning for, or provide more choice, or lower their prices, they may be a one- two hit Charlie. They have the potential to be a lot of things to a lot of people or a few things to a few people. I hope they read the neighborhood right and listen. For example - lots of casual foot traffic for morning espresso and pastry or breakfast. Make the Bloody Mary memorable and worth a walk. Fix the espresso and you will have a morning rush and can be ready to set up a little outside bistro in the nice weather. Offer lunch specials so it's not always a splurge to visit. Keep the neighborhood delighted you are here because you have something or two they love and don't mind paying for, not feeling resentful you are overcharging and taking up space. desserts - make them count. Not just to finish a meal. Get a few reliable excellent choices on the menu that will make people get in their car, or put on their shoes and go for a dessert and coffee late night, ( think something not so common that can be bought at the supermarket - good pie, cheesecake , bread pudding, tiramisu, etc) keep up the good vibe and cocktails for a daily happy hour that's worth meeting a friend for andrivals the competition, and brings neighbors in for a nightcap or meetup. Brain in music -not loud keep your neighbors up draw a crowd music - but local talent , instrumentalists, singer sing writers, coffeehouse types to make for a special evening and rationalize the menu prices. Finally - you can only do so much to create environment. You are welcoming. It's the people who dine with one another who will create the environment for others. Give the neighbors a reason to keep coming back and make this a go- to. Convenience alone won't do it at these prices or with these espressos . Very yummy place! I was suggested the pork polenta and the blueberry pancakes... so that's what I got! The pork polenta was fantastic. I'm not a polenta person, but it was really quite tasty. The blueberry pancakes were out of this work. They had a bit of lemon zest inside too. They were so good that it felt like syrup I put on top adulterated the pancakes! So good. Super fresh, local ingredients. This evening my wife and I tried this restaurant that we had been hearing about from the Finn Hill FB group. We enjoyed a the blue pizza (eclectic and delicious) as well as the locally sources eggplant with a nice curry sauce. This restaurant earned 5 stars with delicious, fresh ingredients that is unfortunately rare, and very friendly service. We will be coming back. If I am totally honest, this is a 4.5 star review. I bumped it up because several people bumped this down for parking and lines. Hard to fault a place for being popular. I've eaten here a few times now, and I love it. This is one of the better expressions of locavore eating in greater Seattle. Certainly the best on the eastside. A beautifully varied menu, full of deliciousness. Great, hyper local tap list and regional wines. Staff are friendly and prompt and you can eat basically in the kitchen. Want to know what's good? We tried to get in on Sunday around 11am. Parking is full, so you might need to look for alternatives around. Surprisingly they don't accept walk ins, only reservations. However there's is no any hint about it on Yelp or their website, it says you CAN make a reservation, but not you should. A local gem! This restaurant is absolutely adorable. I love the decor and style. Very trendy. The food is excellent too! It's a small spot and definitely was busy on a Friday night but we were able to get a table for 2 easy at 7:45. We had the Brussels sprouts which were delicious but if I was to give it a critique at all I would say they were slightly over cooked, I like them to have a little crunch but still excellent flavor. My husband had the Caesar salad which was made with kale and had actual anchovies on it - so it was a legit Caesar salad. I had the squash soup, very savory. We shared the lamb Bolognese which was a pretty hearty serving and perfect to share. The noodles looked freshly made, maybe in house? I have to agree with Sheena on this review. The people were going through the motions but had no genuine want to be there. I had dinner at the bar and it felt cold and uninviting. We almost left to go to another place but I didn't want to lose parking near home and other places required a drive. I think that's the only reason people tolerate this establishment? The place felt pretentious when that location really shouldn't be. The items are over priced and the attention to detail on quality for the value doesn't equate. I do see the effort on ingredients but to a normal Joe like me, I don't need that kind of overhead. The ambiance feels new and clean. The bar, well stocked to show they do craft cocktails, gives a false feeling that you're going to experience a high class drink. The prices are there but the kid behind the bar isn't a craft cocktail bartender like the ones you're going to see at Cap Hill to justify this cost. Want cold water? That's nice. This place is too fancy to give you any chilled type of water. Want a straw? I know you're visiting the east side. . . but we're not going to ask if you want one in that oddly thick drink blocked by ice in a mason jar that just makes you look like a jerk trying to drink out of it while the wedge of fruit tries to get into your eye. Just too high brow for our pallette. Came for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy was served in a bowl like a KFC bowl. I think they used spicy Italian sausage chunks for sausage. Wow how this place has fallen! We went up to The Guest House for brunch a few times in the past - while the experience was never mind blowing, the food and service were decent enough to go back. Not this time! We had a baby in a car seat who was not going to eat (so didn't need a high chair or a place setting). The waitress who sat us at a table made no effort to conceal how inconvenient that was for them. She ordered us to keep the car seat "really tucked in" without so much as an inch of understanding. We figured it must be a busy day and sat down anyway. A good 15 mins later someone finally shows up to take our order. We order beverages, food and dessert at once to not risk another delay. When the drinks arrived I was perplexed. I'd ordered a hot cocoa and what I got was just a blob of milk foam. We let the staff know - the waiter takes it back to check and comes a couple mins later saying "oh, looks like we ran out of chocolate". So you serve any shit to customers when you're out of the main ingredients?? I wasn't even offered anything else instead of that. We then kept waiting for a main course for ages. As we were seated right next to the kitchen, I could see that our dessert (muffin) was put out and sitting at the counter for 10 mins before the waiter decides "oh u might as well have ur dessert while waiting for the main course" and plops it on our table. At this point, I'm already done and waiting to get out of there. The main course was just OK and perhaps tasted even more mediocre with all the unpleasantness around. They don't have to be angels but a welcoming smile and courteous service is the least any waiting staff can offer. I was a little disappointed this visit. The first time I visited it was for dinner and sat at the bar. The bartenders were quick and very helpful. This was also pretty close to when they just opened in the area. You would expect some hiccups but everything was amazing. This time it was a Sunday brunch. Food was good but our server may have been having a bad day or does not understand working the service industry. She was not happy and seemed to want to rush us as soon as we sat down. Spilled huge drops of water and coffee all over every refill with no knowledge or care. Seemed to just toss our bill on the table right when we got our food. What a great addition to the Eastside! The interior is beautiful and clean. Our server was super friendly and had great menu recommendations. My husband and I shared the double patty burger and Coulotte steak. Both were delicious. The burger could have had more flavor but it was still good. The steak came sliced which was nice and convenient. The horseradish mashed potatoes were amazing, and I don't love horseradish. I meant to wrote this 2 weeks ago and forgot, but I am still thinking about this burger. Went here with a friend for a quiet girls night out dinner. The food was fantastic. I had one of the daily specials, a lamb burger with a tomato jam (My favorite part, it completely rounded out the flavors). The Lamb burger was perfectly cooked medium topped with thick slices of feta. The salad I had as a starter...I will skip that next time. While I do not remember the name of our server, she did a decent job. We weren't waiting too long before she came over and she went over the specials and answered any questions we had. My friend ordered a mocktail and I browsed the wine list and said I hadn't looked at it yet and wanted a minute to figure out what I want. Our server stood over us and just stared at the table until I said "I will take a water for now." Which visibly upset the server, who walked away after a big humph. By the time She came back, we ordered food and I ordered wine, and our server seemed to be much happier after that. We were also helped by another server/food runner/water filler...i am not sure what her position is, I believe her name is Francessca. She was awesome! Our water glasses never got below half full and she told a few jokes here and there. She even offered to take a picture of my friend and I. Overall, I will go back. It's never easy being a server knowing you have a table with 3 toddlers, Michael handled it beautifully. We made a reservation and I called to warn the restaurant ahead of time that we were bringing 3 small children. Michael assured me it would be fine, and greeted us with a cheery "we've been so excited for you" when we arrived. I was grateful to be seated a little away from the rest of the guests, but a little concerned that the service would suffer. Instead, Michael was attentive and helpful, and he provided distractions for the children (crayons and paper) as well as wooden silverware for them and their own cups. The mouse pancakes with seasonal fruit were a hit, and the children's breakfast plate with sausage was perfect. Our friend made a point of stopping conversation to remark about how crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle (read: perfect) the pancakes were. The adults started with lattes- 1 regular, 1 salted caramel and one almond joy... all delightful. We didn't try any of the pastries in the case, but the chocolate biscuits and fruit gallete were tempting. We opted for the corn soup and crusty bread for my vegetarian friend, breakfast plate (with the thickest bacon) and my husband and I both had biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were the perfect denseness to swim in homemade sausage gravy, eggs. The green onions were the right amount of freshness and crisp to finish off the dish. Great food is one thing, but the above and beyond service sets this place apart. Each interaction we had with the staff (Michael, the lovely barista, a couple of bus people) was polite, friendly and accommodating. No server is thrilled for a table full of kids, and we're so grateful for the attentive care we received today! I ordered the Creamy Mascarpone Polenta, braised pork, radishes, cilantro, sunny side eggs (GF) | 13 with the side of Toast (Country Loaf) | 3 and my friend ordered the Buttermilk flapjacks, strawberry-rhubarb compote, honey butter, maple syrup (V) | 11 Two juices later and about $36 bill before gratuity. The place was pretty busy with not much of a waiting when we arrived at 11:30am. When my friend went to the bathroom and I went to the front to talk to the manager shortly after we arrived and got our juices, the bus boy already cleared our drinks and water when we returned to our table to find everything cleared out... Really? On the positive side, he was very efficient, but on the negative side, he was not paying attention that we just arrived and just got our drinks (not to mention, they were 3/4 glasses full and the settings were untouched). As soon as we got back, the waitress apologized, replaced our drinks and took our order. The food didn't take too long. The bowl of creamy polenta had a beautiful presentation (only thing is, maybe a little less pool of oil around the rim...?). The toast was crisp and went well with my creamy polenta order. The flapjacks were just good, but... nothing to write home about. Something you can make at home just as good. I would have rather ordered their daily special. It sounded delicious. Our server was busy running around taking orders and taking care of many tables and she was friendly and courteous throughout our brunch. The decor is beautiful. A bit much on the hanging lights on the left side of the room vs the dinning area with cool looking fans. The ceiling could use a change of color, maybe paint it dark to camouflage the stains on the vents with the dark oily rims? The bathrooms are clean with a mix between home and hotel feel. There are pictures of the family on a wooden table and a commercial toilet with tp holders that look like you are at a mid to fancy rate hotel room. The walls are nicely textured. Give it a try, but come early because as we were living, the manager was making a "We are closed" sign a little after 12:30 pm. Did they really run out of everything? I was wondering if they could have offered the family of 3 some eggs and bacon or maybe some sweet pastries. Sad to see people be turned away. What an unexpected surprise. The restaurant is a standalone mid-century house turned into a delicious eatery. It has both style and substance. Parking is easy, with a lot in front of the restaurant. Service is warm, friendly, knowledgeable about their food, efficient, and quick without being rushed. The food is well prepared and uses high-quality local ingredients. For variety there are fun and intriguing dishes that I want to come back to try more of. But the menu also has enough familiar dishes to be family friendly. Service is always great - fast, friendly, and they really make an effort to make sure you enjoy your dining experience. Food is tasty. We've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all good. Great options for people with dietary restrictions. Some of our favorites for brunch are the pork marscapone polenta, breakfast plate, quiche, and ricotta donuts. For dinner, my husband loves the pepperoni pizza (there's a touch of honey on it that he unexpectedly really likes), bbq chicken pizza, and double patty burger. I really like the half chicken, all of their vegetable dishes, and the rosemary grapefruit smash mocktail. We love their marshmallow graham cracker chocolate mousse dessert (s'more) so much we ordered it to take with us on a special weekend trip. They packaged the elements separately so that we could build the desserts fresh at our destination - so accommodating and very successful! And.... they now take reservations! My family and I have been here more than a dozen times and truly enjoy having food of this caliber in the neighborhood. They make good use of their wood fired oven for fresh breads, pastries, pizzas, and more. We go for breakfast, and they have proper espresso drinks and coffee. Today, I had the creamy polenta with marscapone, braised short rib, sunny side fried egg topped with thinly sliced radishes and just the right amount of jalapeños. My wife had the quiche of the day; leeks, goat cheese, roasted red pepper, and something else. It was a tall quiche, which made for a nice portion and the crust was a delicious, buttery flaky crust. I highly recommend their pizzas. The pepperoni with hot honey tastes greater than the sum of its simple ingredients list. Their burger is delicious and juicy. We enjoy their cocktails, which are regularly updated with specials that aren't overly sweet (my preference). When they offer their small plates with farm fresh options, it can be a fun way to sample lots of seasonal flavors without feeling overly stuffed. Some things that others have pointed out are true, they just aren't negatives for us: parking is a challenge and they can get super busy. That is true of pretty much any restaurant that serves food of this quality. We just appreciate that we don't have to go downtown for a date night level experience. Also, we walk there most of the time, so it doesn't bother us that it's a full lot in peak hours. As others have mentioned, when the lot is full, people park across the street or on the street. We take our 5 year old sometimes and love that sometimes we don't. They have a kids menu that can also be colored with crayons they supply, so kids are definitely welcome (including high chairs). However, it's not like going to Old Spaghetti Factory where it's designed for families. If your kids can't use their manners or you have a tight budget, you might not like it here as much as we do. In our opinion, this is a plus. When we go without our son, it's a great date night. When we bring him, we know it's higher quality family experience. It's also true that it's not a quick serve dining experience, but the service is on point for the experience. We know this going in and choose to go here at the times we want higher quality flavor and more time to spend with each other; and it's a big bonus that it's local. read more

Got one of those rare date mornings and splurged on our breakfast. The array of beverage choices was very appealing. Then there was several health options which I love but I decided to have the bourbon French toast! The flavors explode in my mouth it wasn't eggy and had the prefect ratio of batter to bread! My first experience here was great. The host, wait staff, and kitchen was absolutely fantastic. However, our 2nd experience proved to be less enjoyable. It was a Sunday afternoon and we could tell it was busy. We expected wait times, so it was fine. However, when we arrived and saw the bar area open - we asked if we could sit there instead of wait for a table. Our thought was that, "Well, we could at least have a coffee", figuring the kitchen would still be somewhat backed up. That said, we kindly asked if we could sit at the bar. The hostess looked at is and very rudely stated, "You'll still be waiting the same amount of time for food" with attitude in her voice. Now, mind you, we understood the situation, we asked politely and were met with rudeness. I lament with someone who has had a hard day, but there was no need for the rude behavior. One of the other wait staff attempted to salvage the situation by jumping in and being polite, but the damage was done. We quietly left and I don't think I'll be back. To summarize: - Food was great, our service the 1st time was excellent. - 2nd time, we were treated quite rudely by the hostess. This entirely soured me on my experience and we left and found brunch elsewhere. There was really no need for that level of attitude with us. We weren't at all rude about the crowd or wait. Heck, my girlfriend was a waiter and was the primary reason she suggested the bar - so that we could get a drink while we wait. But it's true - "first impressions are everything" and I think I'll take my patronage elsewhere until I hear the hostess staff gets better. read more
