We are so lucky to have the guest house in our neighborhood. Such a gem. The pizza here is outstanding and I love that they have seasonal menu items. Previous review was from 2018 and this updated one was for a brunch visit back on 9/8/24. Since this remains a popular north end destination, pro tip - best to have reservations. Service was notably much more welcoming, the interior & vibe remained on point. The College Friend and birthday celebrant went all out and had the Fried Chicken Sandwich with fries. Notable was that the sizable chicken filet was both buttermilk and pickle juice brined. I opted for the buttermilk pancakes with a blueberry peach compote and a side of Hempler bacon. The fruit compote was so delicious, the maple syrup was a bit of an afterthought. So contrary to my previous review, I did return albeit 6.5 years later. And props to them, compared to other greater Seattle spots that have shuttered, The Guest House seems to have staying power in Kenmore. read more

We went during what we thought was brunch time (11am on Sunday) and were surprised that...there isn't any brunch? Apparently they "stopped doing that" in September, which was unclear from their website or Yelp reviews/pics, and it wasn't just me--the table next to me asked their server the same thing. My friend and I got brunch-y drinks (mimosa, spicy Bloody Mary), and then each got one of the only two items on the menu that had eggs (shakshuka and a breakfast sandwich). While I can't comment on the shakshuka, the breakfast sandwich had thick bread that was toasted a bit too much and wrecked the roof of my mouth. The drinks were good but the sandwich + a mimosa set me back $30 before tip so I don't think I'll be coming back again--certainly not during "brunch" time! read more

I think Guesthouse is now managed by new owners. Although the menu remains similar; it's just not the same. I haven't been here for awhile and when I walked in vibe is different, and food was missing certain flavors I am used to. Different but similar. Hard to express in words. I have been wanting to try the Guest house for so long. I have driven by it so many times and finally got to try Sunday brunch. The flapjacks were light and fluffy! The potatoes were crispy on the outside and were delicious. If the basics were that good I think it's only up from here. We also tried the breakfast sandwich which was thick! There was a fresh flavor with a touch of citrus! This was great for the summer! I think this is a must try for the locals! The servers and hosts were friendly! I definitely will try this place again! Looking around, you see many framed photos of families. The place provides a good amount of seating. The servers were nice and kindly answered our questions. We went during dinner time, however it was too busy. That being said, the service was a bit slow to make our food. We got their Chesseburger ($18) and their Pepperoni pizza ($19). The restaurant's food is more on the pricier side. The fries were pretty good, as it was crispy and eel seasoned. I didn't like the cheeseburger much. It didn't seem to have that much flavor, or a taste that I liked. The pepperoni pizza was great though. It had a surprising sweet taste to it, which I very much enjoyed. First time brunch spot and this place did not disappoint! There were so many things on the menu that we wanted to try. Landed on the ricotta fritters and the breakfast pizza. Both were delicious! Sienna (host) and Kelsey (server) were friendly and super attentive. It's a beautiful place, clean with open concept. You can watch the food being prepared. Saturday evening dinner. Sipped an oatmeal stout (forgot the name) that was nice and light (for a stout). Split the sausage pizza with friends as our appetizer. The sausage is delicious (not salty) and the olives and onions were a great blend. Italian sandwich with arugula was good: lots of meat, the hearth bread is a flatbread/pita-like bread, and the arugula was a good contrast. A scoop of Olympic Mountain ice cream (pumpkin with caramel) finished it off. Got there around 6:30 and it was full as expected. They don't take reservations unless it's a bigger party (I think 12/15). Had appetizer and drink at the bar and lucked out on a table when our entrees arrived. Courteous staff all around, and it was nice to get table seating offered midway through our time. I think the place can host 50-60 inside and there are tables outside but not enough covering to accommodate typical Pacific Northwest weather. Average pricing and worth the quality food. read more

I am glad to finally have had the chance to try this restaurant, we arrived on a weekend evening, and it was incredibly busy, but we were able to eat at the bar which was great. The bar staff took great care of us. :) We ordered some of their fresh bread with hummus to start, and then the Cavatappi pasta, and Wood Oven Roasted Cauliflower. Every dish was incredibly fresh, the freshly oven baked bread was delightful, and the zesty hummus was amazing. Both of our entrees were well prepared and there was plenty to go around, it really felt like a good elevated homely meal! Overall, we enjoyed the food, and the really great decor too. The staff were friendly. Plenty parking available. Look forward to trying brunch here in the future, or more dinner options! read more

What a cute neighborhood gem! Yelp is OF COURSE our "go to" reference when finding a new place to eat, however this was a drive by sighting. The Guest House is close to my son's school and I found it when driving towards downtown Kenmore. (My son's school is not out neighborhood school.) The Guest House is a casual dining experience and they really want you to feel as if you've joined them as a guest in their home; family photos can be found throughout the restaurant. As usual for our tendencies, we ordered food for an army and not just two people. It was worth it! We got a 6810 (cocktail), a winsome cider, the white bean soup, mixed green salad, confit drumsticks, wood oven roasted broccoli, fried chicken sandwich with comes with their house cut fries, bolognese with polenta, skillet cookie a la mode, and powder doughnuts and jam. Everything was great but my favorite was the confit drumsticks. The meat was so tender and the sauce was plate licking good (and we may have actually licked the plate). And dessert - the skillet cookie pan as "just chocolate chip" but not, because it had this flaked salt that totally drew the flavor out. EVERYTHING we ordered was absolutely DELICIOUS, and bursting with flavor (even my perfectly brewed iced tea)! I really appreciate the attention to detail to the plate portions as they are perfect, leaving nothing to be left over. The overall atmosphere feels like a very well decorated home; very welcoming. My beautiful sister had one wish for her birthday, and it was to visit The Guest House for brunch. I'm so glad we did! We split the Eggs Benedict with pork belly and the polenta with veggies. Both were incredible. The polenta was a surprisingly delicious mixture of flavors and textures with the freshest variety of vegetables. The Eggs Benedict was elevated... unlike any we've ever had. The only problem is that we are ruined for Eggs Benedict anywhere else now!!! Of course we had to top it off with dessert. The Olive Oil Cake was moist with a soft, subtly smooth flavor. And the big, sea salt chocolate chip cookie was to die for. The ambience was the perfect balance of classy and casual... just exactly what we were hoping for on a special day. read more

I'll admit I had high expectations based on the reviews and have been looking forward to visiting. I was extremely underwhelmed. I lucked out with close parking and was impressed by the modern but warm space. There was no one waiting and several open tables when I arrived. Four employees (including the hostess) walked past before anyone acknowledged I was there. It seemed odd... but, whatever; everything I saw on tables looked great. Once I was eventually seated, I saw numerous things that looked interesting on the menu and being delivered around me - things were looking up! I can't resist a good eggs benedict (who wants to make hollandaise at home?) so I decided to try theirs with the house smoked salmon. It looked great upon arrival (see pic). The herb hollandaise was velvety and rich, the smoked salmon was tender and briney, the sourdough english muffin was tangy, but the most important ingredient - the egg - was poached hard - like Egg McMuffin hard. For a restaurant of this caliber, this is unacceptable. I waited a bit to eat much more to see if the server would stop by to ask how things were. I never send things back to the kitchen but I was sure they could do better and was going to say something. The server never returned - literally - until he brought the bill. So I finished the first one hoping the second would have some of that creamy yolk that makes this one of my all-time favorite dishes. It was slightly better (see pic) but still only had a tiny bit of ooze. The flavor was good overall, and the side-salad was fine, but the cook on the egg was totally off - the equivalent of a well-done steak when one was hoping for medium-rare. A busser picked up my plate without a word. Once the server retuned with the bill (still never asking about the meal), I discovered it included an unexplained additional charge. I already had the pic of the menu so I checked to see if it noted a service charge - I'm glad to pay if that's their policy - but found nothing. I asked the server and he explained it was an upcharge for the salmon. He pulled out a menu to show me only to discover it mentioned nothing about an upcharge. He quietly returned with the corrected bill. I want to try it again and I know better than to write off a place after one visit, but this time I'm not sure I will. It seemed like it was trying to be Lola (fresh donuts served with mascarpone and all); at least today, it didn't hit that mark. read more

Wow this is the perfect place for a nice upscale family restaurant. Been 3 times and we love it. We always order too much food though - it all looks so good! I'd say the appetizers are really strong... the chickpeas, fries, caesar are all great. The pizza is great - wonderful crust. The pistacio cherry chocolate chip ice cream is a delight. I recommend apps + pizza + dessert. I haven't tried any non-pizza entrees so can't comment on those. Make a reservation as often times they are full! read more

We stopped in for a late dinner in Kenmore at The Guest House. I love a restaurant that feels so welcoming from the initial greeting to the wave goodbye as we closed the place down. Service was primo! The focaccia bread & salad were the very best. Our son & wife had the Caesar salad and we had the mixed greens salad and both were generous & delicious. We all had different main courses & we were all satisfied. The icing on the cake were the fresh made donuts! OMG they were still warm and served with a berry jam...they were amazing. Why did you have to wrap it in an unwarmed brioche roll that quickly became soggy? Don't pretend you don't remember giving my kids that pizza with the crispy yet doughy crust. And then, you topped it with a too-sour sauce, rendering my pizza-loving 6 year old "full" at just two slices? Look, your drinks are good. Really good! I'm sure there will be many patrons who will love them. But drinks just aren't what I'm looking for in a restaurant. I made that very clear from the beginning. Hands-down, the best food I've had in Seattle by far. If I could give this restaurant a Michelin Star I would. Don't let the simple & casual atmosphere fool you. We ordered the curry chicken salad sandwich. Words do not do the sandwich Justice- the juicy well cooked chicken blended with mild curry spices, meticulously, chopped vegetables were just the start. The homemade bread is difficult to describe except that it's somewhere between sourdough and pizza baked from scratch and cooked in their pizza oven. The french fries were to die for. You must try this restaurant. Whatever you order, I know it will be outstanding. We were so full after our unexpectedly awesome lunch that we did not have room for dessert. However we did see beautiful desserts being delivered and happy customers all around us. The chef owner and his gracious wife & staff took the time to welcome us and chat with us about our visit. I love a neighborhood establishment that you can feel at home. I just don't get a warm vibe here but I'm always taken care of. Was hoping to order the cauliflower steak again but it wasn't offered this time. You don't see this dish often or anywhere in the area so it could be the game changer I'm looking for. I remember liking it. I've never met a french fry I didn't like until here. They were oddly peppery and the aioli was off. Spicy margarita was tasty and we had plenty! AMAZING. Seriously my wife tried the food, and she said this is the best pizza/comfort food she's had ever. (I've taken her to many $$$$ places nearby and this ended up being her favorite spot in Kirkland/woodenville) Granted we are Asian, so our approval isn't like a stamp for authentic pizza or anything, but they put a lot of careful thought in every dish they select. Nothing is too cheesy, oily, salty, sweet etc. I would say it fits the taste buds of Chinese folks extremely well. (The way the dough of the pizza taste is very similar to烧饼 which is an authentic like an "Chinese pizza") The environment was also really clean, great service, etc. We left a big tip and plan to comeback all the time, what a gem in Kirkland. read more

It was Father's Day, and when one of us walked up to the host stand around 11:30 AM, the host told her it be an hour+ wait, since they had a bunch of reservations. We were about to head elsewhere, but opted to wait since there's not many other brunch spots in the area. Glad we did! We went back in and asked if the bar area was 1st come, and they told us, as long as everyone was over 21, yes! Sweet! So we didn't end up waiting at all and sat at the bar area instead:) Parking: They have their own lot, but it was full when we got there, I waited an was able to snag a spot, another friend parked on the street. I don't want to say the lot is small, but it does fill up. We ordered: - salted caramel latte with almond milk - lavender latte - biscuits and gravy - doughnuts - breakfast plate The 3 of us shared the doughnuts, it came with 5. They were nice and hot and delicious! The jam was perfect for the doughnuts. My breakfast plate was $13 for basic eggs, bacon, and potatoes, I found that to be a lil pricey. Good but not great. There's definitely potential and since they are one of the only brunch spots in the near vicinity, they are filling a very real need! Service-wise, we came at 10-10:30am on Father's Day. It was full-ish but not packed. We were told the wait would be about an hour but the bar area was open seating and had a table. Servers were friendly and came right away to get us drinks in the beginning, but then the gaps between check ins (for our food order, for food to come, for our checks afterwards, etc) became longer and longer. By the end, we were just waiting to get someone's attention for the check. The parking lot was full, so they were busy, but honestly I saw empty tables and didn't see a lot of quick turnover. Very possible that I was not paying attention and they were doing a great job of serving people quickly without making the atmosphere feel "busy" or "rushed." Food wise, I had the biscuits and gravy, which were good. It was just the biscuits, gravy, and eggs on top. Yummy but nothing to really write home about or make a killer impression that makes me want to come back just for this dish. Other friend got the basic breakfast with eggs bacon and potatoes. Looked solid but again, nothing that really wowed beyond any other bacon and eggs breakfast plate. Overall, I found myself just hoping for some distinguishing feature that would really stick with me, but found none. Drink wise, friends had lattes: a lavender and a salted caramel. Looked beautiful! Just so pretty and they enjoyed them a lot! I had the 6810 which is their spin on a French 75. Delicious, bubbly, refreshing, and summery!This is the pizazz we needed in the food! I really liked the decor and the drinks, so my rating really comes from the food not matching the high expectations I set at the beginning of the meal and the leisurely service near the end. Definitely need a reservation if going for weekend brunch. But man is it worth it. I had the mojo pork polenta with eggs and it was dreamy. But the star was the fried chicken sandwich! This was the lightest and most summery fried chicken sandwich we've ever had (and I'm southern! Ha). The bread and butter pickles were thick and fresh and quickly pickled so they still had that cooling cucumber effect! The slaw was refreshing and crisp and spicy mayo was clutch! The fries were classic and crispy yet soft with the right amount of flop. Sadly, my husband downed the sandwich before I could snap a pic, but here is the mojo pork and creamy polenta. We arrived for an early dinner and had our pick of seats, by the time we left, the place was packed. We told our waitress we would like to split out dishes and were told that was no problem. We ordered the THC salad, an Eggplant and Basil Falafel entree and an Italian sausage pizza. The salad was a flavorful mix of mint, arugula and a bit of cabbage with a light lemon based dressing. It tasted so fresh. The eggplant was baked and covered with a coating of a white creamy sauce and the basil falafel had a wonderful intense flavor. What a hidden gem! This beautifully located brunch spot sits back amongst the trees on a quiet corner in Kenmore/Bothell/Juanita. They have just the right amount of parking for the number of tables in the restaurant and the big windows on all sides of the building provide a lot of nice natural light inside. The menu has several great options to choose from and the cappuccino I had while waiting for my friend to arrive was just right - not too strong, not too light. We both had the marscapone polenta eggs - mine the mushroom and vegetable option, my friend's the one with meat. We were both pleasantly surprised at how all the ingredients went together so well. The flavors and textures did the perfect dance on the palate. A satisfying meal with great service! It kept me satiated until dinner - can't wait to return! read more
