I went with the oven-braised short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and baby carrots -- total comfort food and a huge portion. I actually had enough left over for lunch the next day. My friend had the short rib pot pie, which came with a big salad, and got two thumbs up. I turned around for ten years and H Coffee House rebranded as The Guest House, a casual all-day bar in the converted Craftsman bungalow next to Home on Hillhurst. It's owned and operated by the same people, but I've liked it better than Home in both iterations. I dropped by the other day to catch up with my friend Kim S. when I had time to kill in Los Feliz. It was a great place to sit for an hour, almost completely empty in the middle of a Monday afternoon. The decor was charming, kind of grandma's house meets old-school Hollywood bar. We had our pick of tables and got a cozy corner spot with a view of the street. Service was friendly and fast. The bar was fully available, but I thought it'd be aggressive to have a cocktail while my friend had iced tea and huevos rancheros (there was a bar food menu, but I'd already eaten). I opted instead for a Tropical Freeze, a refreshing mid-day indulgence that looked too good to pass up in the churning slushie machine on the bar. It was great, a sort of piña colada smoothie with banana, pineapple, coconut, fresh lemon juice, and fresh lime juice. The bartender said I should try it with rum next time. I'd like to revisit The Guest House for a legitimate cocktail or two, but for now, I'm just glad it was there when I wanted a place to sit and hang out on a weekday afternoon. Came here after work one day with co workers. Cute space- literally like the name, felt cozy. I guess besides the fact that the table next to us was pretty distracting. They were loud and obnoxious so it was hard to concentrate on our conversation. Anyway... Shout out to the bar tender , she was great! Drinks were good- lots of variety! Unfortunately we were too early for happy hour. We ordered plates to share and price range was decent. Food was mediocre. dessert was terrible! Brownie bites- do yourself a favor and don't order. Dogs barking relentlessly the last hour/hour and a half we were there. I love dogs just as much as the next person but why, as an establishment do you allow folks to bring their dogs indoors and subject everyone else to the noise disturbance? I won't go on a rant about how I feel about the inconsiderate dog owners but will definitely not be coming back here. I ordered the lil bit of passion and some nachos. I've had the cheeseburger & fries, the taco salad, chicken nachos, fried zucchini appetizer and the fish tacos. All highly recommended. Their cookies are served warm and are amazingly soft with a crispy edge. But the pièce de résistance is the French toast a la mode for dessert... a definite must have! We really like their happy hour, not a big menu, and limited hh drinks, and the beer is overpriced for happy hour. The hh food is really good. The bartenders are hot/cold - sometimes friendly and nice, sometimes they barely look at you and don't seem like they'd like to serve you. It's not a 'Cheers' place... even if you go on a fairly regular basis. The interior is comfortable, small tables, and an area with a nice sofa area for larger parties. What a disappointing last visit. I absolutely loved the place before the pandemic and I finally was able to come back last night I really really wanted to like it but thinking back on how I spent almost $30 on a sip of a drink and some fries. Well ya it angers me more and more now that I think about it The bartender was nice but I did see him pour the drink out in front of me and I'm not joking when I'm saying he beyond shorted me.
