WOW! We spent the last day of our week-long camping trip to Yellowstone and after a VERY long day on the road we were famished! We were in the mood for pizza and The Gusher did not disappoint. At 9 pm we were seated right away. Staff and service was phenomenal! Everything came out piping hot and was absolutely delicious! We started out with garlic bread, onion rings, and cheese curds and ordered The Gusher pizza, chili, and a French dip sandwich. Our waitress even made a hot, fresh pot of coffee for us and another staff was so very polite and respectful when we said a prayer before consuming our meal. We were extremely impressed and will definitely be back the next time we're in West Yellowstone! The Gusher is a MUST stop place to grab a bite to eat! As far as I am concerned this is the best place for the price in West Yellowstone. True we only ate at three places for dinner. Mostly because the prices seem to be outrageous in town. This has been one of our go-to places for many years. Always good food! I don't know what happened but the place has gone down hill. Guess it was sold. The menu is still the same, but the staff is totally different. We had a very hard time understanding our server and she us. I asked about there beers and got a stupid look. Than she pointed to a small card that listed the beers they had. We ordered the same thing we always do, a dinner salad and the Gusher Special Pizza. The salad was ok, no choice of dressing or at least we weren't offered a choice. The salad is your basic lettuce, small grape tomatoes and the one thing my wife hates, sprouts! The pizza came out and looked really great. The first bite told the tale. Not so good. It was very much like raw dough. The toppings are minimal and an over abundance of green peppers. I traveled to Yellowstone near the end of the season when all else was closed...thankfully, The Gusher was open and it was great. The atmosphere is similar to a bar/casino but once you dive into a juicy burger all the world slips away. They even have those great shoestring french fries - yum! I had beef barley soup - it was just OK. But I decided I needed something healthy after driving all day and just grabbing snacks along the way. I ordered the Dinner Salad at $4.25. It was a pile of ice burg lettuce with two slices of tomato, cut in half. I asked the bartender if there was a mistake. She said two things: there were bits of celery and cucumber (there were but she had to point the tiny bits out); and it is expensive to get food to West Yellowstone. Each of the three rooms (casino, bar, and dining area) had a good number of patrons relaxing inside and an equal number of staff running in circles... but it took a full five minutes before anyone even greeted my BF and I and five MORE minutes before we were seated. Despite all the diners, I don't think it warranted that many employees especially ones who ignored seating two obviously hungry-looking people. At least our server was friendly and smiley. The décor is simple with a few antlers and sports equipment stuck to the walls. The "arcade/casino" (as mentioned in the name) is just a few machines near the entrance. WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD? Our Gusher Special - a typical topped-with-everything like Peppers, Olives, Sausage, Ham, and Onions was just okay. The breading was very fluffy which I enjoyed especially in contrast to the sharp textures of the peppers. But the overall Pizza tasted too regular and unmemorable at the same time. My wife's family and friends have been patronizing The Gusher for over 20 years. However, last night we stopped in and were less than impressed. We ordered two large pizzas and a salad, that tasted more like a premade frozen pie rather than one that just came out of the oven. Add to that we paid about $95, and you could say we suffered from a little sticker shock. We would have questioned our waitress, but we were not in the mood to debate the apparent overcharge. The pizza itself was just okay. It kind of reminded me of Dominos thick crust, but what we got was actually hand tossed. Was worried because the hamburger looked preformed but it had great flavor. The bun was toasted. Crispy fries. Clean. Friendly staff. The next day I got a 7" pizza to go...not a lot of toppings but a good crust and not bad pizza. Others have described the crust as cardboard but mine was on the thick side and tender. Limited wifi keeps us from checking YELP and even online listings of eateries. We are relying on old school signage, drive and walkbys, and word of mouth from locals. Gushers is on a slightly off street, but a spot we strolled by as we walked our 4 day new neighborhood of West Yellowstone. The notice that WEDNESDAY has ALL you can EAT spaghetti could be just the ticket for hungry families or buffalo burger weary, or buffalo worried, appetites. Our server stated the,spaghetti sauce was stellar. We aren't big eaters and we were thinking simple pizza. Easy, and you can get buffalo on pizza if you want. We went light and simple 3 cheese, red sauce with pork sausage. (you can have red tomato, white, or pesto sauce) The pizza was FAST hot and delicious. The sausage was perfectly seasoned. Latrly, we've found too heavy on the salt but not at Gushers. You taste spiced pork. Yum. Not a heavy pizza. If you enjoy super cheesy or lots of sauce ask for extra on my recommendation. Mind you, I like it light therefore, this medium pie fed hubby and me with 3 slices to go.
