The Gyro Project is more ambitious than most bowl purveyors, and also a bit less hospitable for a newcomer. There wasn't great signage about the sides, and what counts as a "side" vs. "sauce", but all the components were good. I got the beef-gyro bowl with grape leaves, pickles, spicy feta and best of all, harissa. Conceptually the Greek slaw is a great idea, appealing to the health-conscious while outclassing competitors that veer too close to bagged salads. Let me just say, I think Yelp should start allowing us to give half stars, but since I can't I will just give it four stars for overall experience. I have to say the customer service was outstanding. I'm aware that this is a new business and they have other locations popping up around the city so I hope my review gets read for some resolutions. One- if you don't have ingredients to make certain items or if you are promoting a new item to your menus, make sure all locations have the item available for purchase or at least say on your social media, this item is exclusive to a certain location. I wanted a hot chocolate on this freezing cold day in the city just to get a water down mess. I was told they didn't have whipped cream and I also can tell they weren't ready to provide this item because it rang up on the register as a latte, along with another employee having to show the girl how to ring it up. It was not worth the price I paid. I was furious and disappointed. I think it was close to $7. The good news though is that my food was phenomenal. I got a dip sampler that comes with pita bread and some sauces. I don't care for plain hummus so I asked could I substitute another dip and received an extra Tzatziki sauce. My favorite of them all was the Baba Ghanoush, The spicy feta was just ok. I also received a free taste of the Greek goddess and some green sauce I forgot the name of with a sample of some fries. Delicious! I wish I had spent my money on those fries rather than the awful cup of chocolate. The fries were amazing with the little sample I had. The chicken I brought extra with the dip sampler was also tasty. It was so juicy and flavorful I would come back to purchase again. I also ordered some mini bougasta to take home to my girls. They were happy with them. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the cups of dessert they again had on the insta page, I was told they weren't sold at that location, although the girl who rang up my order didn't know what I was talking about I had to show her. I decided to just take everything to go although the place was nice to dine in. They had very pretty decor and it was very clean inside. So although I was mad about my cup of hot water and what tasted like soggy bread with nuts inside my cup, it doesn't even deserve to be call hot chocolate, I wouldn't let that stop me from visiting again. I mean again great food, great service, and really good healthy options. Prices are not cheap but what isn't in this expensive city we all trying to thrive in. Huge fan of the gyro project. Excellent addition to the neighborhood. It is really nice to have an affordable, fast, convenient and healthy option that is open late (10 pm). I really appreciate the exceptionally warm customer service, the clean dining space and how fresh and tasty the produce is. They also have something for everyone and handle food allergies well. I always get a bowl with the chicken shwarma (this version of their chicken is marinated in yogurt so not for those with dairy allergies) but it is alway so succulent and delicious. I choose half vegetable slaw and half rice- love that option and then whatever vegetables I am in the mood for- always fresh. The babaganoush and hummus are great, thought the baba is without a doubt superior to the hummus, as it is SO flavorful. You may have complimentary pita chips if you choose. The bowl is enough for me for 2 meals. Another favorite is their greek yogurt- I love the samoa with the plain yogurt- look at this beauty- just divine! A very solid fast Greek food option in the area! I had the beef and lamb gyro with rice and slaw, lemon potatoes, dolmades, tzatziki, hummus and pita. Everything was very tasty. The lemon potatoes are the best, so so so good! I can taste the citrus in it. It's the small round potatoes cut in half. The only other places I've had it this good is in Astoria and it's cut from the big potatoes. They have a deal on their app for $5 off upon signing up. Ordering in the app is easy. I don't feel rushed because the staff at this location are so nice no matter how busy it is! The ordering set up is similar to a Chipotle, and simpler than any of the other fast casual Mediterranean restaurants and chains. They don't try to provide all of the fix ins under the sun where it can get overwhelming or offer so many add ons that cost extra. When creating your own pita/bowl/salad, they provide a few options each of proteins, sauce, and sides that are all done really well. They have the usual shaved gyro meat, big chunks of grilled chicken or pork, and chicken shawarma. They're some of the best lemon potatoes I've had in the city. And they have unique and well dressed/spiced sides like their Greek Slaw and Israeli Salad. They also have frozen yogurt and a pretty nice selection of savory and sweet pastries. read more

The staffs were friendly and I was able to order from the menu. Some picked gyro, some picked the bowl. You can add fries to it and choose your meat. I'm very happy that Gyro Project is quite busy despite only having been open for business in 2 weeks! The staff are all welcoming and warm! I observed that they all get along and happy to be where they are! You can choose from a bowl, a pita or an entree. They also guide you through the stations if you've not been before. The portions are stupendous and absolutely filling! They can easily be anyone's go to spot while in the city. Ordering works like any other bowl/gyro joint, similar to chipotle/cava. I got a chicken shawarma bowl, which was covered in a tangy marinade. chicken was very tender, and I was given a pretty decent-sized portion! I also got one falafel, which had a nice spice to it. the rice was borderline mushy, unfortunately, but the pita crisps countered this pretty well. Workers were very nice and efficient! the assembly line works pretty well. They have a lot of different pastries displayed on the rack, but they were a bit pricy. Nice tables and excellent lighting. Food is incredibly well thought out between a bowl or actual gyro the choices are never ending. Staff all made eye contact and were incredibly friendly. There were so many choices and the staff walks you through the building of your item. I had the chicken with tatziki, spicy feta, rice, salad, potatoes and slices of pita. The Gyro Project surpassed all my expectations for a fast casual joint! I came on a busy Thursday evening, and every table was packed. The line moves quickly and offerings are constantly being rotated by staff. My friends and I opted for the bowls and we loved every bite! The assembly line is similar to other fast casual joints like Sweetgreen or Cava, but the flavors are incredible. I got the salmon and was impressed by how tender and well-seasoned it was. The falafel was also a highlight and I was really glad to see vegetarian options. The bowl base comes with rice or purple cabbage slaw and lettuce. Then you go on to pick a protein, two sauces and two side dishes. The spicy feta and babaghanoush were perfect and I loved the cucumber tomato salad and stewed gigante broad beans! The meal was great but the unique highlights were the deconstructed baklava served with frozen Greek yogurt. I would come back for that alone! It was out of this world! Also loved the bougatsa custard dessert with cinnamon and phyllo. This place is a gem in NYC and will definitely be a popular lunch and dinner spot. When I asked for harissa, they asked me "do you want it on the falafel or just on the rice?". Came here to try out their viral frozen greek yogurt with extra virgin Olive Oil and sea salt. It was very tasty and filling. I couldn't even finish it. The guy who took my order was very nice and took my nut allergy seriously. The place has a cool vibe to it and there are some tables to enjoy your meal at. Super delicious Mediterranean food here! I had the chicken gyro which was amazing--I love getting to customize every part of it from the sauce to the add ins. The mixture of tsaziki and tomato cut the heaviness of the fries and chicken. The restaurant was wonderfully decorated, making me feel like I was on a Greek vacation. I have been seeing The Gyro Project on social media all summer (2025). I knew it was on the Upper West Side and so was I. I was so tired on a Tuesday night after taking a boxing class and walking 7 miles that day that I decided to get The Gyro Project by Uber Eats for dinner. I wanted to try the frozen yogurt but I thought it would melt during delivery in the sweltering August heat so I just got a gyro bowl. I got: rice and Greek slaw base, gyro slices, hand cut fries, crumbled feta, tzatziki, hummus, pickled onions, Israeli pickles, and pita. This was really large and delicious. If I'm giving one small complaint it's that I checked the box for them to include utensils but they did not. I would definitely order this again though. Came to this place for a quick bite during a date night with my partner and I was really impressed with the manager at this location. My partner has a seafood and nut allergy and we clarified that to the staff and they assured us everything would be okay with the food he ordered. After the manager was notified that he had an allergy he remade my partners food to DOUBLE ensure that his food had no cross contamination. He washed his hands, put on new gloves and prepared his food in a separate area just to make sure. If you have nut allergies I would definitely feel comfortable coming to this location and eating here after letting the staff and manager know.
