The guy who appears to be the owner has been very nice but also randomly rude, ignoring the basic requests (pita instead of french bread), and today he was in a crazy angry mood that I don't need to tolerate as a customer. It's really a shame because I have chatted with him over time about how he has lost other trucks due to the economy and clearly is struggling a bit. Yet today he didn't greet me, despite our repeated conversations and my support in the past, rudely yelled that they didn't have the typical chicken souvlaki sticks I normally buy, and then yelled again roughly about my checking if he had included a sauce I'd asked for. For $6 to $8, you can get a small or large platter of chicken or lamb over rice. They also offer other food items such as hamburgers, shish kabobs, fries and what not. My favorites are the chicken over rice and the chicken tenders with fries. Different from your typical halal carts, their chicken over rice consists of large cuts of grilled chicken over yellow rice, with some mixed salad and tomatoes on the side. Their white sauce does taste a bit more like ranch rather than tahini sauce, but still pretty delicious. The shaved cuts of lamb over rice is also really good too. You can also get a mix of chicken and lamb over rice, but they only offer a large platter of this and it's a dollar more than the usual large platters. So $9. read more

Now located at 67th and Columbus across from the ABC building. I am normally apprehensive about eating from food trucks, but I've been passing this one for a while and it caught my attention. I finally gave in, and it was a great decision! I had the gyro plate and spanakopita slice. Just great! Caveat: the plate doesn't come with pita, which I expected it too, but honestly didn't need it. Also, I suggest getting your sauce on the side so you can control the amount you eat and what it touches (if that matters to you). I knew I'd regret eating here but I bought it anyway. Midtown is a true definition of a food desert, unless for some reason you can live off cafe pastries. $8 for halal. EIGHT! You can surmise the smile on their lips is from the killing they're making off the desperate hungry time-consumed patrons. The lamb sliced straight from the rotisserie is a nice touch, instead of chopped. The barbecue tastes like ketchup, the hot sauce: store bought, and the white... yeah, it's actually light and refreshing. The rice is lazy: a bag of biryani and water, really. Visited with my two kids for a few days in the city. This place would be our last lunch together before I had to fly back home. My daughter got her favorite: chicken fingers with fries. My son got a Philly Cheesesteak (with peppers and onions) while I ordered a lamb gyro. My son was the first to receive his food and he immediately went to work putting it away. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her fingers and fries (with lots of ketchup) but could not finish it. I really liked the gyro with all the typical fixings / toppings. Since my son finished his Philly first, I gave him a bite of my wrap. After my wrap was gone, my son and I polished off what was left of my daughter's order (which was about half). At first my daughter protested that said she wanted to take her leftovers home (as in to my ex mother in laws fridge) but I calmly explained that her grandmother would promptly toss it in the trash on sight. My son concurred and we went to work. My daughter helped polish off the fries. If the weather is conducive to eating outdoors, this is one of the better food choices on the Upper East Side (with respect to quantity and quality for a relative to low price [$7 - $10]). A good portion of the student body from Hunter and several workers from the nearby businesses all come here to get their halal fix, although they also serve hamburgers, gyros, french fries and the like. Their lamb over rice is made with a good portion of shaved, crispy gyro meat, placed over a bed of yellow, long grain rice and a small salad (which can be better) and placed in round, aluminium container. All of this will set you back $7. I was not impressed with their chicken and falafel variants, as they were respectively tasteless and fried to a crisp.
