I have been going to the original halal guys truck for a 10+ years whenever i go to NYC, this boston extension destroys the brand and has left a bad taste in my mouth for the whole chain. 1. They are expensive. At $10 for a regular plate, it is more expensive than 90%+ of the fast food restaurants in Boston and even more expensive than the original NYC locations?! 2. Their service is slow and unfriendly. There were only 2 people infront of me yet somehow it took 20 minutes to go in and out. 3. I had my office cater from these guys for my birthday. They forgot the RICE. How do you mess that up? 4. They limit the sauces. Halal guys was built on having unlimited sauce you wanted and squirting it on yourself. They either do it for you or give you these cheap packets. The manager drenched my sandwich in red sauce and the woman next to him even noticed and laughed (not telling me of course). 5. They have added all these extras to upcharge you (hummus, olives, etc.). Sorry guys I loved your NYC original, but I will not be back, nor will I cater from you again. First had Halal Guys in NY and loved it. This time it just wasn't the same. I had the chicken combo and felt that the chicken was a little on the dried side. The white sauce came to the rescue and made the dish better. There was a worker that came around asking if we wanted more white or hot sauce. Pathetic, weak attempt at replicating the real thing. I'm from NYC, work very close to the original Halal Guys and am quite regular there. I was in Boston yesterday and stumbled across this location. Here's the thing: Give us the 2 packs of white sauce. Halal guys is practically all about that sauce. Our "large" platters had too much salad, too little rice, a drizzling of hot sauce which wasn't increased on request AND cost $11! It's an $8 thing at the original and is 10X better. You guys need to get your act together if you want to expand. Keep the prices low, hours long and sauces in standard sufficient quantities. Not too hard. read more

Yesterday was my first time to the Halal Guys after hearing rave reviews. As it has been open for less than 2 weeks, we came before the lunch rush (11:45am). The line wasn't too bad and moved fast. I got the regular combo (gyro and chicken) platter for $10.61. I got the white sauce and hot sauce on my platter. They have some bar seats inside and 3 tables outside. We were able to grab a table outside. I enjoyed it but it did not live up to the hype. It had great flavor and the hot sauce is really hot. The rice and meat were good. The regular size was large as I ended with leftovers. I enjoyed trying and would definitely come back. I think it is very similar to Chicken and Rice Guys. read more

This place really sucks. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE BUBONIC PLAGUE !!!!!!!!!! The food here is very mediocre at best. It does NOT even approach the taste profile of real Mediterranean food. It is dumbed down and totally modified to suit local tastes. In fact, to be honest, the food does not even really taste like food. It tastes like re-processed plastic with shoeshine added on top as flavoring. Furthermore, the joint is totally filthy and nasty. I find it incredulous that this establishment could pass any certified sanitation tests by the local Health Dept. (The Dept. should come have another look). The staff is extremely rude, uncaring, and unprofessional. One worker in particular was so irredeemably ugly that I literally did not even want to touch my food after looking at him for more than a few seconds. He looked like a hybrid between a Central American iguana and a Nepalese macaque. This is the FIRST time I have decided to write a review: Yesterday I drove an hour just to come get Halal guys in Boston, I was very disappointed it didn't taste anywhere close the one in New York, and the most upsetting part was when I asked the employee to put a lot of sauce on it, he barely put any, First of all its already pricey and then you are being cheap. I went to my car and I started eating and since there was barely any sauce, it was dry and I ended up throwing the food. I stopped by after classes because my friend suggested that I come here. There was limited seating- high chairs against the window and a few by the fountain drinks. My friend and I ended up sitting at the lower seats, but the table were way higher. The only good thing I can say is that it was fast because it wasn't busy. The chicken and gyro were dry and unflavorful. I liked the mint salad ($1 extra) and the hummus ($1 extra). The give you a little hot sauce.. see picture. My friend got the chicken platter, but the guy who was serving her was using his phone with his gloved hand. We saw him showing a picture to a girl (she was putting my food together). He then put his phone in his pocket, then kept using the SAME GLOVE to prepare all the meals. We addressed it and they simply removed the falafel and did not say anything. The guy continued to prepare meal for the other customers who came after us. I think it's disgusting that they don't care for sanitation. I've been to the original roach coach next to the Hilton many times. This new Boston branch is not as good as the original. It's quite a bit more expensive, yet food is only lukewarm and not as flavorful plus portion is more stingy. Chicken is pretty bad...go for the beef. There's always a long line over many years in NYC but this place is already empty at lunch a week after grand opening...that should tell you something. As a born and raised Bostonian moved New Yorker, Halal Guys is the real deal. Any one who says it is similar/comparable to chicken and rice guys is out of his or her mind! I moved to New York right on 1st and 14th, where the NYC brick and mortar location is. I can agree the store is a different set up than the cart, but that's not necessarily a negative thing. Portion size is still large and sauce is flowing ample if you ask. Yes sauce in to go packets are extra but the food is so cheap so how can you complain? Great food after a night of drinking or once in a while. It still feels like street food with cheap ingredients. no doubt it still tastes good tho. first halal guys in Boston opened up in the fall of 2017. I feel like it is a must try at least once and if you're from New York it is a classic and now you can get a little taste of home when you're in Boston. The fries were subpar though in my opinion -- some of them almost seemed stale -- and the falafel wrap was good but like I said, nothing to write home about. The price is just about right considering the location, but I've definitely had better for similar pricing at Falafel King. My coworkers who I went with for lunch seemed to also agree that the place was just OK. I've eaten halal guys from New York when my roommates ex brought it for us all the way from New York to Boston. It was great being able to have it again without having to travel to NY! First off, the lines were quite long even though I got there around 1:15. It's a sign, though, that people were willing to wait 15-20 mins in the rain for the food. I got a regular sized combo platter for $9.99. For the extra dollar, it was definitely worth it to get the regular size instead of smaller size. All the ingredients blended so well. The rice didn't have much taste to it, but it was balanced by the flavor of the meat. The pita was also seasoned perfectly. The portions were so big that I could only finish half of it-- a great deal ($10 for two meals?!). Will definitely come by again (although will have to factor in the time to wait in line) read more

They were very liberal with the white sauce and there was plenty of meat. I could see how this could get "expensive" if you add more meat but you really don't need to!
