My favourite place! I was first introduced to their food by a friend in New York, and I fell in love. Now whenever I'm in the Boylston area, I'm tempted to pay them a visit. And the quantity of their food is so filling! I sometimes struggle to finish the small platter. Their white garlic sauce is my favourite and the bread is so soft! Although their food is slightly on the pricey side; a small platter is around $9. And sometimes the vegetables they include, especially the lettuce, isn't always fresh, which is why I'm giving the place 4 stars instead of 5. But I always enjoy my meal from The Halal Guys! I wish there was more than one branch in Boston. Also be careful of their hot sauce - it is super spicy. read more

I worked in a Syrian restaurant for quite sometime so I think I know what I'm talking about. There falafel is excellent and well priced but I have yet to come here and get my chicken without a sliver of a bone making it's way to my plate not only is this gross but it can also be dangerous!! Spent the whole day in Boston and I have eaten at many places in Boston and I wanted to go somewhere cheap and try something new. I went in and there wasn't a boat load of options probably because you don't need many to receive a delicious meal! I went here for lunch today and was very pleased; I got a combo platter and it was delicious. We went around 2:30 so it was in between the lunch and dinner rushes and there was no line. Ordered once before with no issue. Ordered today, spoke to Farhad/Faheed when I realized I got the wrong order. He was loud and obnoxious. He told me that it was their mistake, but for me to just "eat the food and they'll refund my money" because I'm not "suffering". Again, this was their mistake and that was the best he could offer unless I was willing to take another chance and place another order. He actually acted as if refunding my money was optional. If you want bland, over priced, sloppily made falafel, this is your place! You have to pay for any topping that isn't lettuce or tomatoes when every other place I've ever gone includes most vegetable and sauces in a base price. I asked for hummus on mine and the lady was confused, put a glob down, and smushed it into one spot with the foil wrap. I've had the bowl version before and it was a better and less messy eating experience but it was still bland and I didn't feel like I got my money's worth either time. My friend had the eggplant sauce/dip on hers which tasted great but hers was also super messy. SO dry, wayyyy overpriced for chicken and orange rice (note: orange rice does not mean flavorful. I honestly was so excited for Halal Guys to come to Boston. Went to Saturday's Grand Opening and stood for nearly an hour. The DJ was great, and the employees passed around free water because it was so hot. I ordered the combo with extra white sauce. The chicken was not flavorful, and the worst part- their famous white sauce was totally bland. I don't know what happened to Halal Guys, but Chicken and Rice in Allston is so much better. I was excited to try the legendary The Halal Guys eats and, in particular, the storied "white sauce". There was a fairly long line which took 20+ minutes to order which stoked my appetite. But, what a disappointment!!! I ordered the regular size Falafel Platter $9.99 with a side of hummus (served in the platter ~ 1/4 cup) $3.29 - at a toatl cost of over $13 - YIKE$ ! The platter consisted of mostly a bright orange rice with NO flavor, chopped iceberg lettuce with NO flavor, hummus with the texture and flavor of store bought, 6 fairly tasty & properly cooked Falafel (I think they use mostly Fava beans rather than chick peas) and a heavy slather of white sauce which added a hint of flavor and MUCH NEEDED lubricant to make it edible. Staff is too rude at this place and food quality is completely reduced. Me and my friend got 2 falafel over rice dishes but the falafel was uncooked and the pita was cold as was just out of the fridge. We just couldnt eat it. I've had it in ft lauderdale (FL), king of prussia (PA) and then this one in Boston which is my least favorite. I was so excited to see the Halal guys finally makes its way to Boston! We ALWAYS got a plate anytime we went to NYC. The food tastes just like the one in New York but I had to give it 3 stars because of the price! In NYC you can get the regular sized platter for about 8 dollars and its CRAMMED with rice and meat. Here, the platter is closer to 11 dollars and the portion size isn't nearly as generous (and they try to make up the space with lettuce and tomatoes). You can't blame prices on rent because there are store fronts in NY as well. I'm glad that they're here but sad about the differences. The Halal Guys are known for GOOD but CHEAP food.. this isn't the case for the Boston location. read more

Meh. Went for the first time when it was not busy. Had to explain three times that I wanted hummus on my falafel sandwich. Ambivalent staff. Fries are strictly low end Sysco. Sandwich was ok. Was upset to see that they warm the pita ON the meat. I am not strict vegetarian but why not ALWAYS separate out the pita for falafel instead of putting it on the customer to ask for non-meat warmed pita. What we really need is rami's. Rude staff... they were rushing us like there were 10 people behind us in line even though there was no one behind us. I told the guy to put more spicy sauce on my platter and he said it's too spicy so I told him again that I still want more. He didn't put more on my platter and just put the lid on it to close the platter. I was a bit annoyed by that but didn't want to say anything more so I asked him to give me some spicy sauce on the side. He put a tiny packet of it on top of my platter. Then tried to charge me for the packet of spicy sauce when I asked him why I was being charged... he got an attitude with me.... Soooo, if he had put the sauce on my platter as on the rice and meat then no charge but then he refused to put more and when I asked for it on the side... then it's extra... it's too bad that I won't be going there again.
