I really wanted to like this place. I was excited when it was opening. I really like Middle Eastern Food. There are so many good options in the Chicago Area, these guys have a bit of a high bar to hit. Their "Beef" Gyro was OK, I thought the chicken was a little dry, but both are served off a steam table, NOT sliced off the spit to order. The chicken we got was "warm" the beef was cold. I thought the tzatziki was really weak. (they don't call it that, they just call it "The White Sauce") The tahini the serve was a little funky. The falafel were horrible, and I love good falafel. Guys, you did a really good job on the building. loose the franchise and hire someone who knows how to make good chicken Shawarma and Beef Kafta you could do much better. I want to be nice about this new restaurant. I can't. The nicest I can be is give them two stars. This isn't a gyro joint, and the gyros don't taste like gyros. I ordered a beef gyro. Dry, chopped, tasteless beef mixed with lettuce and tomatoes with a few squiggles of white sauce. Where are the spices? Where are the sweet zingy sliced onions? The flavor was missing. My husband ordered a mixed platter with chicken and beef. He's not a fussy guy, but when he made the rare comment "this sucks," I know it's bad. Again, his meat was dry and tasteless, there was too much shredded cheese, too much lettuce and tomatoes and not enough white sauce. Icky icky icky. Finally, we made the fatal error of ordering a side of fries, and while the order was more than generous, the fries were soggy, undercooked and tasted like grease. I threw them outside for the raccoons who aren't fussy about the way their French fries are cooked. My raccoons told me to say "thanks." We won't be back. There's a gyro place right down the street where we've gone for years, and they make sandwiches and platters the way they should be. That's our joint. Goodbye Halal guys. I love Mediterranean food and will eat it pretty regularly! It is a fresh-tasting, healthy substitute for when you are craving tacos or savory, fattier foods too! I took a chance on ordering from these guys and I was very pleasantly surprised! Apparently very well established based on their own branded packaging and sauces. These guys put out a really beautiful & generous platter that will satisfy your cravings! Generously sized sandwiches and all very delicious, fresh ingredients too! I was curious about the white sauce! Having eaten lots of Mediterranean I was pretty familiar with the tahini sauce but something about this seemed different in a tangy pleasant way! Luckily for us, they sent a little extra with our order and I have found it to be a delicious addition to other foods too! Lastly, I noticed that the take out platters were so lovingly assembled with a very generous serving of everything described and I concluded that I will keep this as one of my favorite places! I used to work in Midtown Manhattan and ate at The Halal Guys cart at 53/6 years ago. I loved it. The mix platter (chicken and gyro with rice and lettuce, white sauce, a little hot sauce) was amazing. Now in Countryside, my family and I eat food from here regularly. OMG! This place is frickin GARBAGE! When you pull up at 5pm starving, take a look around. If your there during lunch and dinner, notice its a ghost town. They will come to the table to check on you and give you extra sauce there's a HOT Sauce that is HOTTER than HOT. I went with my boyfriend to the Halal guys on LaGrange road in countryside IL. We go there a lot and have always loved it but yesterday, I got food poisoning in the middle of the night from their special shawarma platter and when we went in to inform them about the incident , the lady manager was very combative and accused us of trying to cause drama and trouble. We asked if we could receive a refund for just the one plate that was mine as we brought it in to show her. She then was upset that I must have eaten something else because if I got sick from "her" food, then I would have been sick 5 minutes after eating it and not so later in the night. She also was annoyed because I didn't go to the hospital. I told her it is very expensive and I can't afford to go to the hospital for food poisoning unless I felt like I was going to get close to dying. She kept rolling her eyes at us and being very very accusatory in her tone and words. We left without an apology or any kind of solution. I was very disappointed in how this establishment has treated this serious matter and worry about other people who got sick from "her" food. There was a tall man with a light stubble of a beard that also was very dismissive of us. I have never been to any establishment that has shown such disrespect to customers, especially ones that have come many times with the app and rewards. We will never go back there and will not be going to any halal guy restaurants due to this lack of respect and the rudeness of these employees. read more

Fun fact - I usually work in a building right next to the Halal Guys cart in Manhattan but have never tried it. There are just too many other options, plus I cant get enough of the teriyaki pla e nearby. I'm back in IL during covid and got an unusual craving for hummus and pita. I also ordered a side of falafel. The pita was good, the falafel and hummus were yucky and I hope to forget about it asap. If you've been to the Middle East and enjoyed the food, this is not for you. This is definitely Amurikenized and dumbed down. If you are a baklava afficionado, this is not for you. Sorry, but this didn't meet my expectations at all. I love Indian food and Sem Sem in Tinley has the same concept but it's soooo much better. I thought everything was very bland and for it being Indian food I was really surprised. I got the falafel platter and the falafel was bland, the hummus was bland, rice bland. Well I had high expectations for this place due to all the hype of it being how the name says- 'Halal'. I'm a big Mediterranean foodie and I know my halal foods and tastes. But unfortunately that was not what I ate here. Came in, was greeted and they even explained to me their menu which was awesome! Who doesn't like to come in and be greeted like that:) I did get explained that the food was non-GMO and vegan, but I didn't think that meant no flavor. I was disappointed in the chicken platter due it tasting like it was reheated and we all know that taste in your mouth is just not yummy. I was honest in letting the owner know I disliked it and he explained that it's shredded chicken with some salt and pepper added only. He was kind enough to exchange it for a combo platter with gyro and falafel. He also let me try the gyro meat beforehand which was super nice of him! Still all was flavorless to my tastebuds. I had fries as well which were good, but still my main expectations were to be blown away with the chicken platter and their great white sauce. Now that I will give to them! White sauce is pretty freaking good lol. I ate it with my fries even! Hot sauce was really good too! So all in all, the flavor in this restaurant needs to step it up and not be afraid to spice it up! Holy moley. These guys are amazing. I got the spicy lamb pita with extra white sauce. The lamb was phenomenal. Not too fatty, not too gamey. But then good lord, man was walking around with extra sauces and I saw he had the hot sauce (the red one). Now I love me some damn good hot sauce so I said "gimme!". BOYYYYY DID I MEET MY MATCH. That stuff was so hot I had snot running down my face. It was so delicious though, I couldn't stop. Secret recipe, they said. Ok, fine, keep your secrets. Got all three kinds of platters: gyro, chicken, and falafel. They also have sandwich options for these 3. I thought the gyro and falafel bowls tasted better than the chicken, which was lacking flavor. I'm so glad The Halal Guys has expanded enough to create a chain of restaurants that has a Chipotle/fast food type vibe but that almost takes away from the freshness/hot off the skillet flavor of the food IMO. Regardless, service was great and would come back again if I need something filling (my fave is the falafel). Food is pricey, so I won't be a regular. Be aware that their spicy red sauce is super spicy! My tolerance for spiciness is fairly high and even I couldn't handle too much of this one! I was driving by and stopped in thinking I would have some delicious middle eastern food, wrong. The staff was helpful but the food was tasteless! I had the falafel and rice with tahini sauce. The falafels weren't ready because they were still being made but they weren't even warm, and the rice was like eating a piece of styrofoam no inkling of spice despite its orange color. The tahini sauce was so bitter I had to exchange it for some other sauce. I also had the baklava and I don't think there was any honey to be found:( Middle eastern food is supposed to be full of flavor, I don't know what happened here. When I come here I usually get the falafel platter and it can last you like two days. They give you a lot of food for your money. It's fast, cheap and the people who work here are nice. It's the only place I know of where you can get this kind of food with the convenience & speed of a typical fast food place. If you go here you have to order a side of hummus, it's great. read more

What a great addition to La Grange! Being from the Detroit area, I grew up with many options for delicious middle eastern food. We just don't have enough options in the Chicagoland area. So we were so excited to see Halal Guys would be opening so close to our home. We have tried every type of sandwich. Haven't tried the bowls yet but we will try them next.
