Really want to like The Halal Guys because the food honestly tastes great. The chicken, rice, and white sauce are all solid, and the staff is always friendly. Unfortunately, about 1 out of every 3 visits ends with a pretty bad stomach ache. I've tried figuring out if it's the lettuce, the meat, or the white sauce, but at this point I deserve an honorary position with the health department. To be fair, the restaurant is usually clean considering the busy lunch rush, and service is always good. It does get a little warm and hectic inside around lunchtime, but that's expected. Craved gyro. Ordered a beef gyro platter with the fixings. The server was super attentive, nice, and friendly. However, having been here a couple of times (+3), it's fairly inconsistent. The rice this time was rock hard and super oily. My saliva turned yellow. Months ago, the rice was so delicious. Additionally, lettuce was chopped into smaller leaflets and now it's huge bite sized pieces. Gyro itself tasted like gyro (spices are on point); but, most of the pieces were cut very tiny and charred to blackness. I didn't care to ask for hummus but it's strange how some will happily give whereas some won't since they will charge you. I wish there were cucumbers as an option. I appreciate the extra white sauce and red sauce packets given without asking. I also applaud how their plastic forks are wrapped in plastic. No bag charge! Lots of workers eating in. Some talking up a storm as in a meeting. Casual dining to a tee. Great for large groups. Lots of tables and chairs plus both indoor and outdoor seating. However, it is a bit smaller than other locations I've been to, so seating can be a challenge if you plan to dine-in with a large party. The platter was really good, flavorful beef, fresh veggies, mild jalapenos, filled to the brim with extra white sauce as requested. They even gave extra packets of white sauce and hot sauce without us asking. They are always consistent with this dish when I come here (or any location), which I appreciate. The sandwich was humongous, overfilled, seemingly larger than my platter. But that didn't stop us from finishing every last bite of our meals. This is like Middle Eastern fast food, but better. You choose either a regular or small platter or a wrap. Then you choose the meats (pick any 2) and miscellaneous add ons. It comes on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, and rice. You also get pita bread and their famous white sauce (mostly sour cream and mayo). We got the regular platter and it's huge. We got multiple meals out of it. They don't skimp on the meats, and when mixed it with the rice and salad ingredients, it's a really tasty meal. It's located in Pacific Commons in the same plaza as Target. There are plenty of tables both indoor and outdoor. The staff are often very friendly and get order through fairly quickly. We usually get the beef gyro platter and it's plenty enough for the two of us. The platter is always fresh and neatly put together. Similar concept to Chipotle, you go down a line to tell the employee what you want and they fix it right in front of you. We ordered all platters - I opted for their Beef Gyro one. I wished they packed and bagged the food better because the lid for one of the containers was a bit loose and spilled everywhere - lost some meat on top. To be honest, we went to the first Halal Guys in the bay area years ago and that experience didn't wow me then. So I when one opened up in Fremont, I wasn't rushing to go. Well we needed some lunch today and figured, maybe today is the day to try them out again. Although you do get a decent amount of food, it fell a little flat for me. L O C A T I O N The Halal Guys is in Pacific Commons in the same plaza as Target in this small set of buildings with Bank of America next door. Plenty of parking and easily found a spot directly in front. I N S I D E It's relatively small with plenty of seats inside. Ordering happens on the right side of the store. M E N U / O R D E R I N G This is a la Chipotle style. So pick a protein, plate or sandwich, then a few choices for toppings and other ones that are premium (hummus and baba ganoush). We got a Combo (your choice of two from chicken, beef or falafel) plate which comes with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and some small pita bread slices. You can get the white sauce on the side or on top. We got it on the side which meant prepackaged large packets which we thought was a lot but in the end it was plenty. Why? Well the meats unfortunately were quite dry. I felt like I needed to douse everything in the sauce to just rehydrate them. The rice itself was okay and again a little dry which made me again want to douse everything in sauce. They do have toppings like raw onions, jalapenos, and olives, but of those I could only have olives as the others I have a bit of intolerance to. It felt like it wasn't a lot of food, but it was actually pretty hefty and fed two of us. Besides, the dryness of the meats, the flavors of the meat weren't bad at all. There is a bit more rice to meat ratio but that's fine. I like rice. The pita bread was standard. S E R V I C E Not bad at all! They were pretty fast with it and attended to everyone in line. Easily paid by credit card. O V E R A L L I wish there were a little more choice of toppings outside of the ones that they had but do understand they're recreating something that was supposed to be at a cart in New York. The meats are sitting in a metal container which may have led to the dryness of the meats unlike when you potentially cut it off the vertical spit. But what do I know. *shrugs* Perhaps this is normal. Again either way, perhaps you'll enjoy this more than me. I'll probably not be coming back again, but do come and try them out and see what you think. read more

I've had The Halal Guys before but Hubby never did. He watched this YouTube video which got him wanting to try it so we went to grab some food. We went and got the combo platter with extra pita bread on the side. You cannot go wrong with their hot sauce. It's soo good. I'm one for spicy and this is just amazing! The combo platter was good, but we both think that the beef gyro was a bit on the saltier side. The extra pita bread was just perfection with the platter. Hubby and I went a second time a few months later and we got just the chicken platter. We asked for extra pita and they only gave us 1, but Hubby and I just shared it. The chicken platter was much better for us than the combo one. We usually get the regular size, but I think next time we'll have to go for the large because it's just so good! While I do enjoy the food, the takeout services and follow up customer service has been terrible. I recently ordered two family meals to serve to family we had over. We get home and realize almost half the ingredients were missing including pita. How can you have this food without pita?? We called them that evening and they said there was nothing they could do. It was quite embarrassing to serve our guests with missing ingredients. We called the manager and he only refunded us $11 for an order that was over $150. He also would t provide any escalation paths when we told him we were not happy with that resolution. They did not have any empathy or accountability for their mistakes. This is an update on my review. I was told how they "take critiques very seriously" seriously, after posting the reviews three months ago this is your first response. The email that was send is for the rewards program NOT addressing the issue we had. You can't advertise on your page saying things are gluten free when you are putting pita bread on the protein while its being cooked. That is cross contamination and is no longer gluten free. So when you have a severe gluten allergy you can't take a chance that their will be changes. read more

It was a well constructed Platter with plenty of Saffron Rice , Shaved Gyro Beef , Lettuce, Tomato, Bell-peppers and Onions. I added Hummus and Halal Guys famous White Sauce !!!!! The Halal Guys made its way out to Fremont! So, of course, I had to eat it again and see if I still love it. Guess what? I DO! Love it, that is. I alway order the combo half chicken/gyro large bowl. It comes with the meats, lettuce salad, long grain yellow rice and some slices of pita bread. You can have to slather the white sauce and hot sauce into the bowl or you can add it yourself with the packages they provide. I always ask for more white sauce and a dab of red hot sauce. I can't handle the heat of their hot sauce, so, a dab will go a long way for myself! Customer service was excellent. Two small feedback is... the meat could had been hotter and fresher. I thought the chicken was a bit dry and cold when I ate it. The gyro was delicious but it was barely warm when I ate it. Lastly, I think the pita was a day old or older -- stale. We first found Halal Guys while visiting one of my wifes childhood friends in NY, we are seeing some reviews saying this is not authentic Mediterranean food and that's 100% accurate. Halal Guys started as a food cart in New York and has always been an Americanized version of Middle Eastern food meant for fast turn-around in a food cart, don't come here looking for authenticity...come here looking for a unique hybrid that you could only get in NY before this!!! The NY cart was legendary and it was normal to see mega long lines at all hours of the day, the most I've ever had to wait at Fremont was 15 minutes :) We attached a picture of the OG NY cart from our last trip before Covid, the only thing we ever order is the Combo Platter (your choice of chicken, gyro, beef, falafel with rice, tomatoes, and lettuce.. That's the way to go if you want to try something you can only find at Halal Guys. The fremont location has everything set up like Chipotle, you order what you want a la carte and it's made in front of you assembly line style. The good thing is the sauce is on the side, Halal Guys is known for the legendary "white sauce" which adds a nice creamy, mayo texture to your platter and the red hot sauce which you will only need a little of. We eat hot and the red hot sauce is SUPER hot so be careful with it. We love getting the combo platter with Gyro and Chicken, tastes so good and healthy-ish somehow because of the tomatoes and lettuce. read more
