Food is ok but one of the workers (for some reason she's always there when we go) is miserable every time we go. She never says hi or "how can I help you" just looks at you until you say something??? She also never hooks it up like other workers or other wok places like Mr You's for example. Usually at other wok spots they pile it on so you have enough for two people (or at least leftovers) in one combo plate lol. The server just needs a better attitude and portions should be bigger for the price because the food quality has gone downhill over the years. I wish I could say I'd be back but I probably won't due to the increased price, bad flavor/quality of food, and bad attitude from the same employee every time we go. I've been eating here for over 30 years. I was in the area today I so decided to swing by... The interior has had a little bit of a refresh and the food is a little different than I remember but it was still so good. I couldn't decide between tangerine or spicy tangerine chicken so I got both.... I don't think the spicy one is much hotter than the regular version though. The chow mein noodles are still thick and greasy and glorious. As a kid, it was a guilty pleasure to eat a few bites of leftovers out of my container out of the fridge (yes, cold!) and honestly I'm looking forward to a few bites of cold noodles tomorrow. UNSAFE FOOD PRACTICES. When I walked in, I immediately detected the smell of sterno (canned heat). I didn't think about it too much but when I dug into the noodles, I immediately notice they were very cold. the Tangerine chicken and BBQ pork tasted as if they had been sitting for a considerable amount of time. I let the staff know and she offered to microwave the food for me, but my immediate concern was the fact that they were serving food that has been kept at an improper temperature for who knows how long. I asked the staff if the steam table was broken and she replied "it's warm". I have been coming to this place since the 90's, but the last few years have been questionable at best. Can't believe this place is still open! I used to go here quite often when I was a kid, so that was like almost 30 years ago. Was in the area and I was craving some Chinese food so thought I might give it another shot. I was hoping they would overfill the box like those other places do at some of those other Chinese food places you see in those viral videos, but they didn't. However, it is still a good amount of food for around $14. They're at least a lot more generous with their portions than Panda Express. The rice was not that good, I should've gotten just noodles. Was craving some Chinese food and have been trying to find a new place to frequent and just haven't found the right spot. Not until I found this place! Wow the tangerine chicken was perfect! So crispy and whoever coated the chicken, it was the perfect amount of batter. The noodles were good as well. I also got the black pepper chicken and it was not to my liking but the flavor was good. That was over 30 years ago! Throughout the years, the recipes has not changed and there was only one owner until just a few years ago. I can honestly say that owner, Dianne, has turned this iconic restaurant until something even more amazing. She uses the same core recipes but spiced it up. She remodeled the restaurant with the same feel but just a touch of trendiness. When you walk in, there are nothing but smiles and laughter as they tell you welcome. The food is fresh and piping hot. They are definitely not stingy on the proportions that they give you, and the owner has mentioned several times that she tries her best to keep the pricing fair for the community. My ultimate favorite dishes are the legendary tangerine chicken and their barbecue pork. She even added extra freshness and now serves boba drinks! I've referred friends and family here and it's a go to for Chinese fast food due to the price and portion size. HOWEVER, today I changed my mind. I was shocked when I saw the portion size and how much I was being charged. The Happy Wok I was used to is gone! I got a bowl and the portion size was ridiculous and plus tax it was $10.82?!! I liked the chow mein a lot, it's pretty hard to mess this up. Broccoli beef and BBQ pork were solid, nothing to write home about. I probably should've ordered something else other than the broccoli beef because I definitely got more broccoli than beef, but eh that's what you get lol. Service was ok. I definitely got someone who was way more stingier with the entrees, because the pics I see on Yelp have combo plates that are far more generous than what I got. Happy Wok definitely holds a special place in my heart as I remember getting take-out/dining in on Sundays after church with my parents. This restaurant has been through a remodeling - it's much more modern, located in a fairly large plaza in Rowland. But the food is always solid and there always seems to be people coming and going. Since I've been in the area more often, I always make sure to stop by and grab a box of food so that my parents and I can enjoy it throughout the week. Like many other Chinese fast-food places, Happy Wok really packs in a ton of food to make sure you have enough for your meal(s). I almost always get the 2-item combo with an entree, mixing fried rice with chow mein. The rice and noodles are alright. It's the orange chicken that I'm always craving the most. I've tried the spicy and the original and both use the same thick batter that makes the chicken a little chewier and crispier than other places. I prefer the original, just because it's a tad bit sweeter and you can really get the flavors as compared to the spicy version. Definitely appreciate how much meat is packed into the box. I'm able to make several meals out of that one box. They accept cash and card. Sometimes I am able to run in right as they're closing; luckily, there's usually still some orange chicken left. The quality has changed since I was younger, in a good way. The food isn't as greasy anymore . The service was good today. I've never had a complaint with that. Staffs are always nice to me. There really isn't an ambiance. But it does look better than it use to look like when I was younger . I'm glad they renovated the place.
