This is a great past. I stop in here often. The staff is always friendly and eager to get your order started. Everyone is always smiling. The owner or manager Mohammed is also very friendly and kind. He always makes and effort to connect with the customer. Today I stopped in for my usual order and he helped me get the halal guys app downloaded so I could start earning points. Lastly he encouraged me to try their mashed eggplant...the juror is still out on that one haha. But otherwise the food is always fresh and good. The portions are good also. First time trying the food, it was amazing and would definitely come back again soon. Abdul was a great help!

I just got back from The Halal Guys in Union and to say I was underwhelmed is to say an understatement. Maybe I'd just heard too much good stuff and my idea was unrealistic but I can't agree with most reviewers. I got the small combo platter with beef and chicken ($7.79) with olives ($0.50), two falafel ($1), a side of hummus ($2.99), and an order of baklava ($2.49). My friend got a Gyro sandwich ($6.79) and we both got fountain sodas ($1.99 each) First, The platter: When it was hot, the chicken on my platter was actually rather tasty. The rice had a rich taste but it was the white sauce that made it stand out. In fact it was the white sauce that carried the entire platter. It was the beef that really disappointed me. While the beef was cut off of the skewer in slices, by the time I got to me it was almost in tiny little pieces. It tasted almost as if it was reconstituted as it usually is when it comes off of a skewer like that. But usually there's no slippery plastic taste. Second: The falafel I found it amusing that they were less circles and more cylinders. They really had very little taste to them except for almost equal to say a green like taste. As you can see by the picture that was exactly the color that they were. They were also quite dry. Third: The hummus The hummus wasn't all that bad actually. It tasted like chickpeas and the consistency was nice and creamy. It just had very little flavor in terms of spices. I ate it with their tasty sandwich wrap bread. $2.99 for the serving that they gave me was actually very good however I'm not sure if they would've offered me any extra bread if I hadn't asked. Fourth: The baklava I love baklava. Traditionally nice and juicy, nice and flaky, it makes my taste buds happy and my fingers sticky. The taste of the baklava was actually pretty decent. But there was not enough honey, or juices as you would say, in order to make it moist. It came as two pieces, however the two pieces were attached and I couldn't break them apart. That is how dry it was. Dry or not, it's baklava and I eat it! Fifth: The Gyro My friend said he didn't particularly like it. He wouldn't go into greater detail even though I told him I was writing a review but he just told me he wouldn't go back. Honestly, neither would I. The best part about it was the white sauce, and the chicken when it was hot. Once the chicken wasn't hot it wasn't very edible. As much as I would like to love The Halal Guys, I'm just not feeling it. But with that said, this is just one reviewer's opinion. Don't let me dissuade you. When the Halal Guys made a restaurant nearby of course I was super excited. Not as good as the original stall in the city but it hits the spot when you're craving chicken and rice. Let's start with the location: it's located on an island strip literally between Route 22. Best location maybe not with all the traffic and you can miss the exit for it easily. Though it's a better location than me driving all the way to the city. Convenience is playing it's part on this review. The service was great; the guys who worked there are very thorough. Especially with Uber Eats orders. My sisters have ordered from them via Uber Eats and they had everything they needed. Though I do have to say that some of the guys are very pushy when it comes to trying their new Halal Guys wings lol! I haven't tried it but to very, very honest they look like regular wings lol. My order came out great, but as far as freshness it wasn't up to par. There was a pile of chicken already cooked on the griddle. The aspect with the stall in the city, the meat is cooked on the griddle or sliced off the meat rotator in front of you and you wait with your mouthwatering for the guy to call your order up. It didn't happen here. I kinda wished they kept with the originality of cooking instead of chain restaurant set up. I do understand that when there's a crowd, shit can get crazy having to cook all these orders. When I went it wasn't busy and it was the start of lunchtime on a Monday. So c'mon man bring me the freshness! It sucks that toppings are 50 cents and they don't really put a lot of it on. I think the only free toppings you get are the white sauce, hot sauce and bell peppers I believe... but anyways you're still being charged 50 cents and not given enough of it. Warning for the hot sauce: make sure you specify how many lines of hot sauce you want because that shit is spicy AF!! Well for starters it took roughly 70-75 minutes to get the order to our complex. When the delivery man got here he began yelling at me on the phone to hurry up because he was outside and he had other orders to deliver. When I got outside he was at the wrong building and I had to go find him. As if that wasn't enough I got my order back upstairs to my apartment and half the order was incorrect. Ordered a chicken AND falafel combo platter with NO tomato and an ADDITION of olives. Received a platter of just falafel WITH tomato and not an olive in sight. Needless to say I will not be ordering take out from there ever again, which is a shame, because my family and friends have frequented the two establishments in both East Brunswick and Newark. read more

Thank you Mo. I came here Friday for a gyro when I noticed the guest before me having a burrito made for her. I didn't know they also made burritos. It looked delicious. Mo made me a healthy burrito with gyro beef, rice and all the fixings. The burrito was delicious and very filling. What really caught my attention was Mo's service. My kids love it and we used to get it from East Brunswick but we are very glad that is open In union. This is only 10 min way. Line was long about 20 min but it moved fast. Taste was on point. And there where one employee that goes around adding white sauce. Our platter was generous and we added tappola to the combo platter. It was very fulfilling . The kids were have a blast with big space in the store. parking was not an issue. They were organized. We will be back. We didn't try the hummus or fries . Maybe next time. When my husband and I were dating we made frequent trips to the MoMA and stopping for "platters" was a key part of the trip. I loved going to the Halal Guys on 22. I typically order the comber platter that comes with fresh lettuce with diced tomatoes, yellow rice, several pieces of pita bread and the most delicious halal meat one could ask for. Throw on top some of their signature white sauce and/or hot sauce...very hot. These guys are the same guys who have the food truck on the south-east corner of 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue in NYC. So I go back after a year to see if maybe they fired the old s Nasty work habits. Today I was totally grossed out. The manager and a worker were cleaning the grill. Using some sort of water and Spakle knives to scrape up the gunk. Their gloves were nasty and slimy from cleaning out the gunk. Then with out changing the gloves he take down the chicken that was in the pan and starts to mix it with his hands without changing the gloves . The same Nash gloves they used to clean the grill and handle the garbage can they used to handle the food. Then I said to one of the workers can you kindly ask the two guys to please change their gloves. I said it in a very quiet and Discrete manners, as to not let the other patrons hear. The manager came over after the worker asked him to change the gloves and confronted me like how dear I ask him to change his gloves. He said "what you say to me" I said can you please change your gloves. I said it very discretely again. Then he said one of those he is playing dumb "huh" with that look of I'm not doing a damn thing you said on his face. So I said it louder. He proceeds to curse me out in front of all the patrons loudly . He goes on about who are you who are you to tell me anything "I'm the general manager of this store" he yelled. Then the unthinkable happened. As he gestured with his 2 hands flinging from under his chin like the basic dismissive get loss sign. All that nasty slimy water sprays in my face from his nasty gloves. I didn't even bother to get upset I just turned around and walked out. I'll keep my money and my health. I went here to get a gyro since it was convenient and near where I was shopping. The place was completely empty besides 2 employees, 1 girl in the back and 1 older guy sitting at a table on his phone. I stood at the counter for about 5 minutes until the guy decided to get up and serve me. He didn't say a single word, I told him what I wanted and he tossed it together like he had to be somewhere, I won't complain it was loaded up and really good.. but the guy working either didn't speak English or just really hates his job. I was also disappointed there was no lamb, just chicken or beef. I went with the chicken and it was great, he wasn't stingy with the white sauce, the guy just seemed so miserable it brought me down a bit. I'd give this place 5 stars, it's a terrible location on the highway, but that whole area is a disaster so not their fault. I took 1 star away because honestly I think a robot would have been more friendly than the gentlemen that served me. Not only did he toss my sandwich together ASAP, grab my money, and then go sit back down at his table and get back on his phone right away after he gave me a rather warm soda from the fridge.. I wanted to ask for another one but I said forget about it and walked out. Great food, horrible customer service.... Hire someone that wants to work there, or at least communicates (in any language, form, or fashion)... other than that the sandwich was great when I got home. Worst platter I've ever eaten... Ordered a chicken and beef platter around 1pm (lunch time). Both of the meats didn't look fresh and tasted very strange. Each platter is $9 and I think it's worth paying the toll and going to NYC for halal guys than go to this store. This is my 2nd time coming here and it's more like a food haggling service then a fast food halal spot. My first experience was exactly the same but I reserved my review for my 2nd visit hoping it was just a fluke. But! It wasn't! Now for the review: The food is very average. I would give it 2.5 stars. Ordering experience was a .5 star. As soon as you order, they immediately upsell you the regular sized platter without even asking if you want a small which is a dollar cheaper. Then they don't tell you what comes with your platter which is only onions and peppers. EVERYTHING else is EXTRA! They dump white sauce on your platter then tell you sauce on the side is EXTRA! You ask for hot sauce which comes with your platter and then they conveniently forget to put it in your bag! I totally lost my appetite! I won't be back. Stressful experience just ordering lunch! I have seriously been looking for a REAL gyro place around here for so long. I eat out a lot and for 10 years haven't found a place in NJ that comes close to a real gyro and compares to NYC gyros..so when I saw this place I didn't get my hopes up until I saw their website that said they were from NY and had famous sauces. Yes! Rest assured it is that good. The meat shaved off the spinner, the white sauce/hot sauce combo, heavenly soft pita bread..it's all there. I love spicy food, like I order the extra hot sauce when I eat buffalo wings, and their sauce not only satisfies the spice level but also it has deep flavor. It's thick like sriracha sauce but has it's own flavor. Hot sauce fans will love it. Or you can moderate and just put a few dabs from the packet so it's not spicy. Combined with the equally amazing white sauce it is perfect. They don't skimp on the french fries either they are crinkle cut and come fresh out of the deep frier to order, so they are super crispy and hot. One size only, $2.50, and come in a big carton. Throw in some salt & ketchup and eat with a fork right out of it like on the boardwalk. Update: upgrading to full 5 stars after many experiences. I realized the sauces are meant to stay refrigerated so if you are taking it to go I recommend getting the sauce on the side and it stays nice and hot! read more
