I finally got down here to try Backpacker Pizza in the heart of downtown Camas. In my opinion, the location is the main reason I would come. There's a lot of great pizza in the Vancouver area. It's nice for me to just walk to dinner. This is a casual place where you order at the counter and find your table. We went early, around 5:00 on a Friday. No problem getting a table then! The many offers a lot of pizza options, from gourmet to more traditional. I saw a couple of options that made the decision hard. I opted for the potato prosciutto and my daughter wanted a different flavor so she got the mushroom pizza (I can't remember what it's called). They have beer, wine and cider, in addition to non-alcoholic bevs. I was unfamiliar with the wine options and the person taking orders made a suggestion and let me taste it. That was nice! I had a nice Malbec for $14. I thought that was a bit pricey. The staff were all friendly. It definitely had a friendly neighborhood vibe, which counts with me. The pizza was good and had interesting flavors, both of them. The mushroom one was rich, as they usually are. I enjoyed the salty/sweet combo on the prosciutto potato. The crust was a bit disappointing IMO. Just plain and not very interesting. My favorites are wood-fired and Detroit, for reference. When I ate my leftovers at home, I added a drop of honey. First time here and staff is friendly and welcoming. The pizza has that nice crispy texture at the bottom while keeping the toppings together even when pulling it apart from the other slices. I enjoyed both pizzas. Preferred a bit more bacon on my pizza. The potato and prosciutto was different but still delicious. I really enjoyed the ranch too! Had a very late lunch here. Good selection of pies and beer. The service was great and pizzas came out quickly, but our crusts were a little tough. Two people can easily finish a whole pie. Overall a nice experience for a Saturday afternoon. read more

The cheese near the edge is caramelized and hardened, which typically happens when a pizza is overbaked or kept too long in the oven. First I wanna start by saying that the staff here were so friendly! They were able to accommodate a huge group of us and kept making sure to come by and check on us and continuously clearing our plates. The restaurant is very cute and clean. Got the hibiscus limeade which was okay. The pappardelle lamb pasta was good but probably wouldn't get it again. But the star of the night was definitely their pizza! They had a buffalo chicken pizza that was absolutely delicious, it was so saucy and flavorful and had a nice crust. It was not your traditional take on buffalo pizza and they really outdid their selves with that one! 10/10 would recommend that pizza. First trip to Backpacker Pizza, 421 NE Cedar St, Camas. Nice quiet place, very helpful man at the counter. (They don't like to split pizzas, because of different cooking times. Who knew?!). And all pizzas are 12 inch. So I 'had' to order two pizzas. And a spot-on recommendation for beer. The Supreme is, well, supreme! A great combination. The Peperoni was great too - the pepperoni is much better than most. One complained there was too much pepperoni on it. I solved that problem. Convenient in downtown Camas. Tried to get in here earlier, since the restaurant opened just recently, but they've been really busy (super happy to see that). Stopped in this time on a Saturday afternoon about 2:30 PM, and (for a group of four adults) grabbed a couple of pizzas, a couple desserts, and a beer; ended up being just the perfect amount. Got the Thru Hiker and the Caprese, and both were great. Somewhat modest beer selection, but choices were right on the mark, and they also offer several other sorts of drinks (soda, coffee, canned beer). Service was super friendly, and pizzas came out in about 20 to 25 minutes, which was reasonable. Space is not huge, which I understand, so especially if you are local, if you don't get in when you want to, come back later and give them some business. Or, at worst, go walk around downtown and then come back in. Really a nice addition to downtown Camas. read more

I did not even know this pizza place was in downtown Camas. It's just a tad off the main strip, and it was amazing. We decided on the goat pizza and we're not disappointed next time we will try the through hitchhiker pizza. The Caesar salad was the best I had ever had, and they had done it their way, Using kale fresh green mix instead of the standard of Romain and their homemade dressing was so good. Amazing pizza, exceptional service! What a great addition to Camas! We were a group of 10 who showed up hungry and so ready to eat. The service was prompt and extremely friendly. The pizza- crisp on the bottom and so flavorful - just perfect! We ordered the Thru Hiker and added jalapeños, the G.OA.T, the Supreme, Potato & Prosciutto, and a cheese pizza. Every pizza was delicious. We also ordered the House salad and the Caesar salad...yummmm! So fresh and tasty. We had our 2-year-old niece with us, and the owner came out and was totally engaged with her, bringing her things to keep her entertained. Such a family friendly environment! I would go again. The staff was super pleasant, refilled my lemonade without me asking, and made great recommendations from the menu. The Van Morrison music in the background was perfect for the vibe. The lamb pasta special was the best thing we got. Packed with rich lamb meat, we ran out of noodles before the lamb and sauce (not a complaint at all!) and put some of the left over lamb on a slice of pizza; highly recommend! The thru hiker was good, and the crust was great (evidence that all their pizzas are probably really good). Everything tasted really fresh, and neither of us left with that sick greasy feeling you can get after eating too much pizza. Not too heavy, but still filling. If I could do it again I would order the loaded up, or potato prosciutto pizza because I love meat on my pizza, and the thru hiker is definitely targeting a health conscious eater who prefers fresh sprouts to sausage (more my wife than me). read more

First let me say that the service was the worst I've ever had in my life. The pizza was unusual and could have used some help with some of the ingredients, but the staff was my issue. The girl that originally took my order for the pizza very sweet and made sure to tell me where their baked goods came from, when I complimented the look of the cookies, but after I sat down something strange happened. No one looked my way again. No one asked me how my pizza was and when I thanked a different woman for bringing my drink over and she didn't respond, I assumed that maybe she couldn't hear me or was having a bad day because I just got sort of a flat feeling from her. Imagine my surprise when I saw her yucking it up with people later with very animated conversation right outside the window where I was seated. I was there for awhile and sat for quite some time waiting for someone, anyone to ask me if I needed a box for my leftovers. I finally had to get up and ask for it on my own. As I approached the counter for the box, I noticed that neither eye contact, nor a smile, nor a question came from her. ( same woman). She simply looked past me at my half eaten pizza way across the room behind me and shoved a to go box in my hand. Again, throughout my time there, not a single person ever asked me if I needed anything or how things were tasting even though all others were being asked that. They can't even use the excuse that they were super busy because there were less than a handful of tables that had people at them. All I can guess is that this establishment is owned by homophobic people that don't seem to care that when you deal with the public, you pretend those issues aren't a problem for you so, that those customers and the ones you actually do approve of, will keep coming back and also recommend you to their friends and neighbors. I live in this neighborhood above a very cute antique store and I am appalled at how I was treated. I will make sure as many people as I possibly can will know that this place doesn't want our kind to come around. I will also make sure that anyone I know won't be mistreated by the majority of this staff even though our money is just as green as antone elses. FYI, I never did bring that extra half of my pizza home. I gave it to some shop owners because I couldn't stand to eat any more of it It left a bad taste in my mouth. read more
