A heartbreaking decline for a long-time regular If you are looking for the quality and hospitality Hudson's used to be known for, you won't find it here anymore. After years of coming here, the last few months have been a massive disappointment. Tonight, they messed up our outdoor reservation for the third time, even though this time I made sure to reiterate "outside" which completely ruined a family night (my kids and grandkids were in tow) out to see a local band. The staff's attitude was hostile and dismissive. One staff members, even told me to talk to someone else. And turned her back on me and walked away. Combined with the recent dive in food quality and skyrocketing prices, there is simply no reason to patronize this establishment anymore. Highly disappointed. read more

Food: had none, went here to listen to live music. Upon arrival was told that we could not sit in the patio area without a reservation. When I called about attending the event, they told me nothing about needing a reservation. Half on the tables were vacant. We agreed to sit in the bar. Service: we waited 20 minutes before anyone took our order. We ordered two $80 well drinks. Bill came at $10 per drink plus a "service charge" plus tax of course. We tracked down the server to ask about the charges. Was told we had not ordered our drinks in time to get the "happy hour" prices. After we ordered, we waited 30 minutes to get our drinks....no napkins, no straws, just a glass with our drink. Ambiance: I had been here before (when I also got terrible service and had to question over charges on my tab) but that was a long time ago so I wasn't holding that against them. I returned because the setting is beautiful. It is a lovely place visually. My recommendation is if you go....go for the food. Do not spend anytime in the bar area. read more

The food is hit and miss! Some of their food looks like slop on a plate. Juevos rancheros looked so unappetizing I had to send it back. The smoked salmon hash was nasty, hubby took a couple bites and left the rest. Order the bread pudding French toast, they were amazing! If you love coffee bring your own flavored creamer cause they ain't got any. They have half & half only. Don't know about you but I love coffee and I love my flavored creamer especially in the morning to wake me up. The service is GREAT. Servers are friendly and happy. Jacob was wonderful and the gal we had the night before was flustered but kept her composure and delivered top notch service. Not a long wait for food which is great when on a tight schedule. The ambiance is so comfy and family friendly. We really enjoyed having our meals here despite some of their not so good dishes. We would definitely come back despite the negatives. Don't leave without trying the croissant bread pudding cake! You will not be disappointed! This bar is inside the Heathman Lodge which a great place to stay. I'd like to point out that an incident occurred when an elderly male fell in the lobby area, he laid there while front desk staff watched and guests walked around him without helping, we were about to help him when he finally got himself back up, joined his wife who was sitting at the bar, two female Hudson staff were observed helping him and his wife into the elevator and to their room. No one else helped but these nice ladies did. Shout out to them! Another incident was observed the morning of check out for us, where one Hudson staff and one Lodge staff helped a male guest into his wheel chair. Stopped by for happy hour after not coming here for over 3 years and honestly forgot how much we liked this place. We showed up right at 4 PM, asked to sit outside, and were seated promptly. Our server was super friendly, bubbly, and very sweet, which made the experience better. I ordered 4 appetizers and 2 drinks. Drinks came out quickly, and the food was great once it arrived, though it did take a little longer than expected. My only downside was ALL the outdoor tables were pretty dusty and dirty (maybe from just the breeze from outside), and we ended up wiping them down ourselves with table cloths on our table before sitting. Overall, everything was great and we'll definitely be back, but will most likely choose to sit indoors next time. Glad we rediscovered this spot! read more

The steak was a prefect medium rare and charred, and the tomato jam an acidic and sweet compliment. Such a different take than the usual ribeye preparation and I really enjoyed it. Asparagus and potatoes were also both prepared perfectly. Elk and pork ragu was not gamey at all. More like a stroganoff cream sauce with meat in it. Also enjoyable. Service was great, very attentive staff despite being fairly busy. Ambience was not loud at all. A quieter, more romantic vibe. All around a great option for dinner service in Vancouver. read more

I am a business traveler and I've been coming to the Heathman Lodge every year, 26 years, to be exact. On my visits I always dine at Hudson's for at least one evening meal. There are 2 seating areas, one inside the restaurant which has a nice feel and is visually pleasing. The other seating area is in the hotel lobby under the stairs, which is weird and feels like you're having dinner in a hallway. For what it costs to dine there, I'm not going to eat in a hallway/hotel lobby/under the stairs. Servers are usually attentive and the food is good but I think it's overpriced for what it is. $37 for a 3oz piece of fish on mashed potatoes with 2 stubs of broccolini is just too high, IMO. The least expensive entree on the menu is $24 or $27 and that is meatloaf. Its good, but not worthy of that price point. For a salad, an entree and a glass of wine it was over $75. If you're looking for a special night out and are prepared to drop some bank for small portions in a nice setting then this is the spot for you. read more

Our family was visiting from California and was very pleased that we had dinner at Hudson's. The restaurant was rather busy for a Wednesday evening, but the wait staff was on top of their game. We were greeted by Brayden who informed us that the wait would be approximately 15 minutes. He came to get our party after about 10 minutes and seated us immediately. Brayden was doing double duty that night, as the host and the bus boy. He was so, so good at both. He had a pleasant banter and a smile the whole time we were there. Our waitress was Sandra and it was clear that she was an expert at her job. She made delicious recommendations for our appetizers and entrees and we were not disappointed. I came here for brunch with my wife. The atmosphere is open and lively with a cool PNW cabin feel. Really cool artwork on the walls, complete with a replica of a Native American canoe! Our server was young and energetic and very easy to talk to. She helped steer me towards the eggs Benedict, which were a great recommendation. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise sauce was perfection. Aside from grilling about the steel prices (pretty standard for hotel restaurants), I'll keep Hudson's on my short list for local eateries. Large portions and delicious breakfast, more than enough for two people to share. Smoked sausage, cheese and peppers. This dish was anything but ordinary. The smoked sausage was fresh and unique, loaded with cheese and piping hot. Potatoes on the side with sourdough toast and salsa. The salsa is house made and filled with garlic. It was outstanding. Our server Cecily was fabulous and fun. The restaurant and hotel have a lodge feel with a nice fireplace and ample seating. But the sticker shock and the menu was disappointing to me The menu choices, I felt were pretty limited, heavy on seafood and steak options. I ordered a glass of rose, $14, and it was nothing spectacular, I chose the fioccchi for my entree. The portion size was decent, but the pears were not ripe, so the bites of pasta were not soft as they should have been. There is a 20% gratuity applied for parties over 6. I completely agree that this should be the case. However, our server insisted that she didn't want us to tell her how to split the bill into 4 checks. It took almost 45 minutes before we got to order. They were short handed, so we had no issue waiting a little extra time. However, when we finished and said we can take the checks, she simply said "I can't do that right now so you'll just have to wait". We only let her know we were done ordering more drinks. She was slamming every plate and glass down and it made us uncomfortable. At a table full of current/previous servers and bartenders, we wanted to be as understanding of her frustration and patient as possible. When we got the bills, they were completely mixed up. So my bill should have been 100, but it was instead 350. She said it was because we moved tables, but we had been moved to a new table before anyone even ordered anything at all. and I knew it would be another 30 minutes to fix the bill so I just paid it. Our server made over 150$ tip on our table and came by less than 4 times. The busser girl came by more than she did. So I'll definitely not be coming back here. Any business that automatically adds a 20% tip should have GOOD service in exchange. I get that customers are butt heads, but we weren't, and the way we were treated was awful. read more

So, I will share a little story about Hudson's Bar and Grill. See your restaurant was where I had a blind date over 18 years ago that lasted 7 hours. We had a beautiful perfect dinner then sat in front of the fireplace on a couch positioned perfectly. We took a walk around the parking lot where my now husband said" give me a kiss" then was so nervous he hugged me instead and patted my back 3 times. I was a divorced mother of 6 children who left a domestic violence situation, Mark had left a 16 year unhappy marriage as well and had one beautiful teenage daughter. Since our date that we talk about often, as do our 7 amazing children and 15 grandchildren. We're older adults late 58 and 61 and often reminisce of our 7 hour date, the blown kiss and how much we loved our first date at the Hudson's Bar and Grill. Went here for brunch while Christmas shopping. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful, but especially so during the holidays. There is a fireplace that was roaring in the dining room and very lively, and pleasant crowd. Coffee was very good and I liked that they left the thermal carafe on the table so that we could refill it ourselves . I ordered a California omelette, and while it was plentiful on avocado, I thought it came with bacon, as that's been my experience with California omelettes in the past. It did not so I was disappointed. I would not order that particular omelette again. My dining companion had the steak omelette and I did have a taste of that and thought it was phenomenal and highly recommend that. The breakfast potatoes were incredible! They had finely diced bell peppers and onions that were sautéed and the potatoes were cooked just perfectly. The sourdough toast that came with it was pretty good as was the strawberry and the Marion Berry jams, but my toast was very clearly and visibly burned, and I'm surprised that it was served to me that way. I didn't need it all so it wasn't a big deal, but kind of on the sloppy side to have served it in the first place. Absolutely loved our dinner here tonight. Caesar salad was tasty, but the Gorgonzola Cheesecake appetizer and Lamb Shank dinner were exceptional. Really impressed with the complexity of the flavors individually and how well they all went together. The cheesecake came with a soft toasty sourdough bread, along with roasted garlic and marinated artichoke hearts. And the lamb shank had a saffron risotto, roasted butternut squash, and olive tapenade that were all unique and flavorful on own and even more incredible when combined together. I've been wanting to try this place for a while since it's so close to my home. My husband was craving crab cakes, and after reading reviews, we decided today was the day to give this place a shot! Since it's New Year's Day, I called to check their hours. They had the same hours today as any other day, and they recommended we make a reservation since they close for 2 hours in between brunch and dinner. We made reservations for 1pm. We arrived at our reservation time and were seated in the kitchen area right by the order window. One would think a reservation would give you a table in a better area, but this is a hotel, so one shouldn't assume?! It was very noisy with all the clanging going on in the kitchen, in addition to all the server chatter...most of which was personal conversations. It didn't make for a great first-time experience. It was not only distracting but kind of annoying. We ordered the crab cakes benedict ($29), a cup of salmon chowder ($6), bread pudding french toast ($13), and a side of bacon ($8). The food was good. The crab cakes lived up to their great reviews. We would definitely order them again. The french toast was yummy, too. It would have been nice to have warm syrup, though. The bacon was cooked perfectly. The salmon chowder had plenty of salmon chunks and a nice thick consistency. Unfortunately, our server was also the bartender, so our empty water glasses were ignored. Overall, it was just an ok first experience. The food was good, but the atmosphere and service were lacking. Overall, a positive experience. The service was excellent. Wife had filet mignon and said it was delish and perfectly cooked. I had the halibut and had to send it back as it was overcooked. Since we've stayed at the Heathman for probably over a decade, we've had a lot of experience also dining at Hudson's. Our last stay here in 2023 let us really sample a variety of what Hudson's could offer. Let's start with their brunch offering. Normally it's easy to get gouged at a hotel restaurant, but I have to say that Hudson's does a great brunch menu for the $15-17 range...eggs benedict, huevos rancheros, and a truly killer corned beef hash. The corned beef hash comes with an unforgettable dijon cream sauce that, *chef's kiss*, is just phenomenal. They also have a salmon chowder that will warm you up in no time on those winter days. Moving on...we did the Thanksgiving buffet dinner, and their new chef has done an amazing job. Prime Rib, salmon, turkey...also all good. Our group's table service (mostly drinks, since it was a buffet) was excellent too. There were a lot of side dishes...too many to really sample them all, and that's what you want with a T-buffet, a lot of choice. The only knock was that they ran out of pumpkin pie. But - if you're looking for a T-day venue, this spot'll do. We ordered a few cocktails from the bar, and while spendy, I give them a 'solid'. I did hear some complaints about the beer prices, but it isn't exactly a sports bar, so there's that. Service still consistently good. With the last several years, it seems we're making this our holiday gathering tradition, so I'm glad that they seem to have upgraded their game. Hope you have the same experience! read more
