We decided to enjoy a "nicer" dinner so we chose the Harbor Hut. My husband ordered the fish and chips which really was flavorless. There didn't seem to be any seasoning in the batter or on the fish- without tartar sauce it wouldn't have been edible. I ordered the sirloin steak with vegetable and a side salad. The steak looked gorgeous when it was delivered. The side salad was an additional $4 which is no big deal but it had kidney beans and beets on it. Seemed like strange ingredients for a side salad. I ordered my steak medium well and it was very pink, almost red in parts. Our server only came back one time and at that time I hadn't realized how undercooked the steak was. At the end when the busser took our plates I showed him the parts of steak I didn't eat and asked him to let the cooks know- he said he would. Then when I told our server she just said I should have let her know and they would have put it back on the grill. We can't let you know if you don't come check on us. Lastly we ordered the mud pie and that was good. It didn't seem like actual ice cream- more like frozen iced coffee- but very delicious. I am not one to complain much about a restaurant but a $100 dinner that you leave feeling disappointed is something others should know about. read more

The manager, who by the way would not provide his name, was very disrespectful when the service was challenged by our party. We complained about our order taking way too long. We arrived with a party of eight after calling in ahead and we didn't receive our dinners until over an hour and a half later. We had inquired to when our dinners would be served. The waitress said ten more minutes and it was actually twenty minutes later. The meals were satisfactory however our moods were already tainted. When members of our party asked for the manager, he spoke to us in a condescending and disrespectful demeanor. He made excuses and even made judgmental statements towards our group. It was beyond unprofessional and insulting towards customers that were paying for quite a large tab. Very disappointed in the person that is the face of a business that needs patronage to be satisfied with their experience. Shameful to say the least. read more

Much better experience than last time, primarily because of the great attitude & friendly service of Amelia. However, they are still having issues getting the food out at the same time. There were six of us and the food came out only two at a time. So, by the time the last two dishes finally arrived, the first pair was most done eating. What a disappointing experience. My friends and I were celebrating not seeing each other for a long time. There were 8 of us. We arrived in a great mood. We placed our order and proceeded to wait for over an hour for our food. We were never checked on to see if we needed any more drinks. Water was refilled once. When our food arrived it was ok. My pasta was nice and hot and tasty but the shrimp was over cooked and lacked flavor. I actually left the shrimp behind. When we approached the manager, he was so combative and rude. My husband and I had a craving for fish and chips so we went to Morro Bay. We decided to go to the Harbor Hut; I am 65 yrs old now, my grandmother used to take us kids there when we were young. I had great memories of this place, looking out over the water and eating fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised when we went in, felt warm and inviting just as it was back then. We had the best server, Dylan; she was very pleasant and fun. She was very attentive and helpful, came back numerous times to see if we needed anything else. Was in Morro Rock when hunger struck! Luckily nearby was The Little Harbor Hut, mostly fast food version. Unfortunately that was closed but the papa restaurant The Harbor Hut was still open. Price wise I would have been happy with the Little Harbor Hut. Taste wise will never know till next time in a long while. The main restaurant The Harbor Hut was pretty cool. It had a Hawaiian them ambiance. The view of the Harbor was cool too. Food wise we ordered the classic Fish n Chips, Bruschetta, couscous soup, Crab cake, and the specials Three grill fish sampler plate. Fish n Chips was according to my son, was bland tasting. The fries he enjoyed and finished. I would have to agree with my son, the fish was bland.The bruschetta bread was too thick and not toasty enough. Very hard to bite into due to the thick content. Great food and comfortable interior. Fast and friendly service! We ordered the fish and chips, one of them being a kids meal and it was very good. The clam chowder was immensely memorable! We came in a little bit late but despite that, our server was very attentive and friendly. It was great to have a hot cup of tea when it was so cold out. It didn't start out the best as the hostess sat my daughter and I and then proceeded to chat with a server for several minutes without letting him know we were his table. We sat for about four minutes without anyone coming to our table. Being in the hospitality industry for about 25 years, that's a bad way to start our experience here. Food was okay. Fish and chips were hot and crispy, and shrimp Louie salad was tasty. However, there was zero communication from our server. Beverages were ordered and delivered through the busser. Server arrived to take our order but was literally turning around and ready to bolt after we ordered entrees. We wanted to order chowder as well, I feel like if I had hesitated a half a second longer she would have been gone. Similarly, when the food came out she basically dropped the plates and ran. Didn't ask if we needed anything else and never came back to check on us - we would have liked some malt vinegar for the fish and to request the hard boiled egg that was missing from my wife's salad. For 22 bucks your salads should at least be complete. The fruit on the side wasn't ripe either. I don't know how many tables our server had, but regardless the service was definitely lacking, We weren't in a real hurry, but it seemed like we waited a while for the check. I'm a former industry worker so I generally tip pretty well, but this was disappointing. If the server wondered why she only got 10% on our check, these problems would be why. read more

I ordered twelve oysters on the half shell almost all were shucked poorly. I had constant fragments of shell in my mouth constantly. Quite a few had an unpleasant after taste and did not feel very fresh. Considering these oysters very very expensive I would expect better taste and quality. We were at least 3/4 of the way through dinner before more water was offered. But my biggest complaint was my food. Our experience: Bad bad food! Very salty! My halibut was immersed in a bed of soupy sauce with capers that was extremely salty! The lettuce was totally old and wilted. In addition, the service was bad. The food arrived without salad and we had to wait for our salad and the food which was not good got cold, double whammy! They offered to grill the fish and we agreed! We had to wait for another long while and finally got frustrated and left the table. If I could give no stars I would, we came in on a non busy night. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Food is all crazy expensive for what it is so we just decided to get drinks, the waiter was nice until she realized we were just getting drinks. Then we heard her talking to her coworker about how we were not getting food, but we wouldn't tip her well. I would maybe understand the frustration on a busy night but we were her only table, not holding up a line, so being a big party and all ordering round after round of $15 each drinks seems unfair. I don't feel we will come back. It's about 91 degrees in the restaurant as-well, definitely wear cool clothing because there is no AC. We spent almost $200 but unfortunately that wasn't enough for another round of bread. We were brought one bread basket. Scandalous pricing for just OK seafood. Ordered a dozen oysters. They were small and one of them was obviously spoiled. Mentioned it to one of the servers and the problem wasn't acknowledged. Alfredo was overly heavy as is the case for most Americanized Italian places. Portions were too big but nothing special. There are much better informal places nearby that offer higher quality food for reasonable prices. They never let me down. And today was no different. I took a sip of unbelievable citrus notes mixed with flecks of spices & wonderfulness floating in her fragrant liquids. This magical elixir must have been crafted by tenured & expert hands. Yes, this is true. It didn't stop there. Decided to try their fish tacos & I am again hooked. Bar none, the world's greatest...ok, the best I've ever tasted (& I've traveled the world) tender seasoned flavorful white fish & abundant portion with a delightful homemade sauce. Loved them (you get 2 served with rice & beans). Our table was adjacent to the Embarcadero waterfront watching sea otters swim around the bay...soo majestically beautiful. But, let me share the best part...our waitress... She was too cool & made the dining experience an afternoon to remember. Nathan is the very best server I've ever had. He was friendly, patient and informative. We had a senior citizen with us who was clearly confused & he was so compassionate & stepped right in to help fix the confusion. There was also another server stepping in to fill water glasses etc. The ambiance & view is incredible. The food is delicious & served hot. Took my mom and wife here for Mother's Day lunch today, food was great, service was ok, but they were busy. No big deal. Where they get a 1 from me is the manager was super disrespectful. Made a comment as he was walking away, then when I confronted him and told him if he's gonna say something he should be man enough to say it before he walks away, he started arguing with me saying he wasn't being rude, blah blah blah. Then he comes back with our refills, and slams them down on our table. If you're gonna be in the service industry regardless of what goes on throughout your day, you treat every customer with respect. Especially when they're paying over $200 for their ticket for lunch. We had to ask for napkins, we had to ask for utensils, we had to ask for condiments. Wait staff should know to bring these items to your table. On my last day off in Ventura, on the spur of the moment, we decided to travel to Morro bay, as a nice road trip, also to check out Morro rock. Took 2.5 hours to drive 145 miles but it was a nice drive, not much traffic being a tuesday morning. Only problem though is that on tuesdays, most of the highly rated restaurants are closed the entire day. So there were only so many restaurants that are open, and being that we go there during the lunch time rush, the highly rated restaurants that were open had lines out the door!!! So we had to go further down the main road, and quickly the hordes of tourists die out. We decided to sit inside as suppose to sitting outside or ordering food from an outdoor place, and that's how we ended up at Harbor Hut. I didnt check the ratings before we sat down, which is on me. Usually I wouldn't eat at a 3 star place. But being that so many places were closed we just decided to eat here. Decor looks old. From the tables to the chairs to the aquarium to the walls to the art work to just everything, it looks like we went back in time several decades. Service was slower then slow. Took a good 15 minutes for our waiter to come by, and an additional like 10 minutes just to get our waters. Which is totally unacceptable. If we had to wait another 5 minutes, I was ready to leave, I was already looking up other restuarants that were open nearby. All that waiting gave me the chance to look at the dead mosquitoes and ants strewn around the area below the windows.... Great view of the bay though. Boats and kayaks slowly going by, just like the service here.... Even a sea ottor or two popping their heads up kept the view fresh, and helped pass the time.... Also Morro rock was only about a mile away, so you can clearly see it depending on the clouds. When the food eventually arrived it was actually pretty good. For appetizers we ordered their fried calamari as well as 1/2 a dozen oysters. 1) Calamari had a great crust on it. Slightly on the dry end. But cooked well. The sauces with it gave it a good taste. A 3.5 star appetizer. 2) Oysters being at $2.50 each was ok. Run of the mill osyters. Nothing to order again. Not old, but I dont know how fresh they were either. I would say it was maybe a 3 star worthy appetizer. For entrees we ordered their pacific red snapper, their fish and chips with chowder as well as their lobster ravioli. 1) Pacific red snapper- 2 filets. Cooked amazingly. Moist, flaky, great sauce on top. Seasoned extremely well. It was really good!! And the filets too were pretty large. A solid 5 star dish. 2) Fish and chips iwth chowder- the actual cook on the fish was not oily at all. Deep fried and crispy. Moist and flaky white fish. The fries were also cooked well. They had a nice dusting of dried seasoning on top, which added to the taste. The chowder is the star of this dish. Thick, creamy, great amounts of ingredients. Really warms up your soul. Cooked well. Seasoned well. A solid 4.5 dish. 3) Lobster Ravioli- this dish was also really good. 4 large raviolis stuffed with a lot of lobster. The suace it was sitting in was hot temp wise and seasoned well. No need for salt or pepper to be added, because it tasted great. Only knock on this dish was the garlic bread was so small, like the size of one of the raviolis.... Like a 6 inch garlic bread would've been nice to help soak up all that suace. But a solid 4.5 star entree. And you really cant beat the price. For 2 appetizers and 3 entrees total bill was only $102. Considering the location and being in a tourist town, this place is well priced. Food itself is a solid 4-4.5 star, based on the price I would've even up the food to 5 stars. But with how slow service is here and how long it took to get our waters, and the dead caracasses of mosquitoes and ants crawling around, I unfortunately have to give this place 3 stars only. If they can speed up their service of getting to the tables and getting the ddrinks out, this place can be a solid 4-4.5 star place..... read more
