It seems my review was removed, I'm guessing the owners probably sent a complaint since I also tweeted about the great experience I had and they requested that I take it down which I didn't, I didn't even really get into the events of the night but now since I'm here I may as well. First we got there around 9:30 on a Saturday night and as we were walking in after getting our IDs checked the bouncer informed us there was no cover before 10:00. When we walked in the girl at the counter in the front demanded that we all pay a $10 cover even after the bouncer told her that he said there was no cover. We paid the cover without incident until one of our friends realized she didn't have cash which was fine one of us would cover her, so she quickly ran to the bathroom. After about 3 seconds the "security" went to hunt her down like she was a fugitive on the run and then proceeded to surround and intimidate her while ignoring the other people trying to hand them cash to pay for her. Later on in the night when it got a bit more crowded there were clearly belligerent drunks causing problems left and right while "security" just ignored them walking around carrying their invisible suitcases puffing out their chests trying intimidate people. But the best part of the night was when I was waiting for my girlfriend to come out of the bathroom at the bottom of the stairs and then it hit me... It came at me like the security came after that girl earlier... It was SHIT. HUMAN SHIT. someone shit on the floor like just straight up said "fuck it this place is already a dump let me just top it off". So after we realized that someone had just laid out a heater on the floor I notice one of my friends being dragged out the front door by the security thugs, and I mean aggressively dragged out and thrown into the street. Why was he dragged out? Because he took a picture of the shit on the floor. He was assaulted for taking a picture like the shit on the floor was a celebrity, he was the paparazzi, and these goons were the shits personal bodyguards. After we got the entire thing on video the security did a great job of letting some drunk kid in line randomly start a fight with me while letting another person in line punch someone in the face for no reason (they probably both got a job there after that) they just stood there and did nothing. Now on twitter they told me the shit incident wasn't a common occurrence, clearly they don't read the reviews about their own place. It also seems like the thug squad seems to be a common problem to. I'd give the bartender 5 stars though he took care of me and my friends the whole time even after it got crowded. Oh and after doing some research it turns out this place hasn't passed a health inspection first try in 2 years (probably more it only went back to 2013) they had to keep getting reinspected after failing. read more

For the location, the place is great. Located right across from TD Garden, if you are waiting before a concert, or want to grab a drink afterwards, go here. We went before the Dispatch concert this past weekend, sat down at a table, had an order of wings, and a burger with some beers, and I can't complain. The wings were above average, as was the burger. What made the place, was the service, our waitress was fantastic, and the beer selection was obviously good. After the concert, went back for a drink, and it was completely different, smart though. They move all the tables and make it a dance floor. It was extremely busy, for the obvious reasons, but again, big bar and good beer choice. read more

"Eeeeeeewwwwww." This is my first thought when I think back to our recent Saturday night at the Harp. I can't comment on what kind of night this was... no idea if there were any sporting events happening around, since we were visitors. But it was getting on towards the witching hour and we weren't done partying. Plus, The Harp held a little sentimentality for some people in our group so up to the line (what?) we went. While I have no doubt that this is a very different place in the daytime, the night-time Harp could as easily have been called "Disco Broken Beer Bottle" or "Club Aggressive Dancers" or even "Slippery Floor Tavern". Harps are not what I pictured as we wandered through the mass of sweaty tall people dancing to DJ's on both floors. I think there were some televisions too... I have vague recollections of catching glimpses of Olympics between episodes of being jostled aside by dudes trying to dance with one of our friends. Yep, it was just generally a drunken crazy time. And hey, I'm not knocking it (and have a bruised knee to prove how slippery the dance floor is). But there's probably zero chance we come back here next time we're in town. Went here for the Superbowl and was extremely underwhelmed by the service and waitstaff. Our server Jessica did not tell us the kitchen was closing and when we went to order more food at 8:10pm she said the kitchen had closed at 8pm. She didn't try to remedy the situation at all and instead lied saying the kitchen was closed abruptly by her manager. When we asked again she said it usually closes at halftime. It would have been super simple for her to mention the kitchen was closing or give us a heads up but instead she got defensive and said that she had come around multiple times to see if we wanted anything. The fries we did order were okay and ambiance was fine, but sitting there for the rest of the game for two hours was frustrating when you couldn't get anything to eat. Walking distance from TD garden. (Right across from it ) They played 80s music. We hung-out here to let the rush go by before we called an Uber after a concert. I got a whiskey sour and I normally love them but it was so gross haha. Pretty good deals for being right in Boston and next to the garden. More of a sit and chill bar not a dance bar. read more

I never thought I would have to write a review on a nightlife experience, but here I am. The Harp staffs extremely aggressive security members who actually go out of their way to instigate situations. As someone who wasn't drinking heavily, I was very aware of the situations occurring around me throughout the night. While in line, the bouncer was actually screaming in people's faces about not touching the windows, to "stop acting like fifth graders" and making things very personal. After he was seen berating people outside, he headed to the main stage where the live music was. He was seen making gross gestures at women in the crowd, and even told another employee that "the girl in the pink has been calling me all night", suggesting I was interested in him in any way. This employee offered up this information to me as he was seen to be pointing to me. When asking the employee what the man's name was, I believe it was either Sean or John. Not only was he a pig, but I also witnessed another bouncer with long dreads, glasses & a peace sign hat throw a drink in a customers face. He then told people they were "fucking idiots" for standing on the stairs. How dare they!!! The Harp needs to seriously re-evaluate who they are hiring as staff. The importance of de-escalation in nightlife is huge, and their egos need to be deflated before someone gets seriously hurt. I felt very unsafe all night knowing that if something occurred, the bouncers would escalate it further. read more

When my friend tipped the same bartender $1 for a drink he held up the bill and said "what the f*** is this?" I've never had a bartender do something like that before and it was such a vibe killer. Came here with my son (25) after he moved to Boston due to his friend Wolfie kicking him out and moving someone from the chat rooms in instead. Harp! Ha-rp! Haaaaaaaaaaarp! We came here to watch Buffalo Bills (da Bills) game and to watch a repeat of Brookline is my Lady (A public access TV show I had worked on in the late 90s) The bar was segregated into Bills fans (cowboys) and Patriots fans (cattle) and I had a sandwich. My son has picked up Kosher from Wolfie and so doesn't eat in places anymore unless they have a weird fish/pizza/burrito menu of unseasoned food and expensive imported juices. The sandwich was good and the beer was cheap in pitchers. The bathroom was downstairs and had complicated soap dispensers which led me to struggle and get a small amount of soap on my jacket which looked a little like semen. I also left the belt clip for my Samsung Galaxy S3 at the boarding house so I left it with my son who kindly asked the place to charge it. Overall this is a five star place and they are very kind to accommodate Bills fans in the larger room and not succumbing to the seductive mirage of the New England Patriots. Music was good, but this place needs to get things in order as far as capacity and cleanliness goes, among other things. Was so turned off by this. I want to like this place more than I do. For food this place is 2-star, but for a place to go an drink at night, it's a 3-star and possibly a 3.5 star. I've never had an issue at night when this place gets packed, they have 3 different bars to order from, two different levels and a live band on the main floor. However, for food...they are really lacking. The chairs and tables are all plastic and you can tell that they're made for fast pick up, clean up and storage when the restaurant needs to quickly flip the house for the night time. Waitress was very nice and friendly and everything came out in a timely manner. The chicken was bland and did not taste very good at all. I had a salad which is tough to ruin....but the "blackened" chicken seemed to have been microwaved. Kelsey got the bruschetta chicken which was even more bland than my chicken. As a tourist in the Boston area, trying the nightlife was a must. The harp seemed like a good place, and for the first few minutes, it was. The band playing was alright, the drinks expensive (but I've noticed everything is in Boston), the atmosphere decent. The night was destined to leave a good experience although not the best, at least memorable. The issue came all from a misunderstanding. The first round of drinks was bought by my friend and everything was fine, when I came back for the second round, I bought tequila shots. Paid by card and signed off the tip in order to pay cash. Within seconds a small, skinny disgruntled bartender came over to me and told me "don't come back to this bar" because according to him, I had not tipped. As an ex waiter and valet parker I understand how important a tip is, but, I never needed it THAT bad or had the arrogance to say something as such without even knowing that if he would've given me a second, I would've placed a 10 dollar bill for his troubles. The experience with this fragile ego'd bartender ruined the experience for me and my friend. And now certainly, I don't feel bad or ever will if he never gets tipped again. I actually almost walked right past here because the sign is all the way down on the other side of the awning. I was already sportin' a hangover, but this place made me more nauseous. If I wasn't meeting people in here before the Bruin's game, on a normal day, odds are you won't find me here. So while hangover was in progress, I did not venture to find a drink. Trying to walk through this crowd is like trying to get out of a sardine can, you can't unless someone peels open that lid and dumps you all out at the same time. So no water for me. And bathrooms, what's with the bathrooms?! 3 stalls for 2 floors?! And not only 3 stalls, but small ass stalls. I've seen broom closets bigger than these! I can barely close the door behind me before I'm about to fall into the toilet because it's literally right behind me! C'mon you have all this space in your location, couldn't you have built a bathroom for normal people size? We're not all anorexic twigs! And what's with your surly wait staff? Yes, we know it's crowded in here, but if you're kitchen is all the way on the otherside, why not set up the area more logically?! Sorry but your screaming "EXCUSE ME!!!" isn't going to get me to move any quicker because there is no where for us to move. Again sardines in a can theory. So do what you will, but I can't move anywhere. And this goes for all the servers coming out with food and some that were putting plates over some peoples heads. You know... I almost saw someone take out Blair (he's tall) when they put the platter up and above everyone's head as they walked by. How about checkin' your surroundings? This place is gigantic and fun if it's your type of spot. I've been to the Harp a few times and I have some general rules for having a successful night: 1. Pregame hard: You're going to need to be slightly tipsy to deal with the massive amounts of people. With two big floors this place is packed! I made the mistake of coming here for a sober night and quickly regretted it. I found myself wishing I never handed over $10 at the door. 2. Get there early: This one's easy -- nobody likes long lines. We all know it's hard to end pregames and actually get everyone in a cab. But trust me, it is worth it to avoid this line! So fill up your flasks and get out the door by 10. 3. Wear shoes with some strong soles: The floor is sticky as hell. I made the mistake of wearing some flimsy flats and could barely walk because my feet were so stuck to the floor! In my attempt to dance I ended up awkwardly swaying back and forth so that I wouldn't fall over due to lack of feet support -- really attractive. 4. Wear earplugs if you hate bad singing: I LOVE cover bands. But after a few vodka tonics everyone suddenly thinks they're Christina Aguilera and forgets that they don't actually know the lyrics to the Outfield's "Your Love". Stick with the opening line people, then let the band do the rest. 5. Never break the seal: The last time I went to the Harp the line for the women's bathroom was unbelievable. There was literally 50 girls on the line! No way am I wasting half my night waiting to get in the bathroom. Here's to holding it in! read more

This place provided the most awful bar experience I've ever had in my life. So awful it was kind of impressive. We were put off right away by the incredibly rude doorstaff, but then we walked in, and I understood the doorstaff's antipathy. The place was packed with clueless, obnoxious bro-dudes and townies who were trying to put the moves on the few available girls, bro-dudes who belched and yelled, who bounced so joyously to Bon Jovi that beer fountains sprouted across the dance floor, drenching it, and us, in cheap beer and Jager bombs. The DJ made obnoxious comments between songs, and yet tried to peddle 50$ New Year's tickets after jeering at the "patrons" for paying 10 bucks to get in. I imagine New Year's at the Harp is very close to my idea of Hell. On that note - 10 bucks? Really? I can give you a looong list of things you could better use 10$ on. A movie. Ugandan orphans. 10 Whopper Jr's. A sharp stick to poke yourself in the eye with, which is still preferable to returning to this shithole of a bar. To give yet another analogy: my haunts center mostly in Allston. The Kells? Classy joint compared to this. And know that I don't say this lightly, as I once saw someone attempt to give her boyfriend a handjob in the middle of the dancefloor there. I saw the worst cover band ever conceived here last weekend. They're called The Zoo, and they are godawful. They'll play basically every annoying song that's been on the radio in the past 10 years. Every goon walking around with gel in his hair and an annoying girlfriend on his arm just LOVES them of course, pumping their fists to weak pop songs. I wanted to punch the lead singer/guitarist in the face, wishing he was the lead singer of nickelback, looking super meathead in his dyed spiked hair and choch-face clubbing shirt. And the blonde chick who sings backup and shakes a tambourine for most of the set - good lord. She must be dating one of the guys in the band, there's no other explanation for it. She absolutely slaughtered "Lithium" by Nirvana, the one song I saw her sing lead for. The food here is terrible, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Also, the prices are not that great for what you get. PLUS the real kicker: $10.00 cover? For a terrible cover band and a dj playing dance songs??!?! There are countless venues in Boston and Cambridge where you can see 3 or 4 at least respectable bands for that price. I've been to the Harp multiple times and always had a great time, but tonight one thing really turned me off. The bartender upstairs on the left side of the left bar was in an AWFUL mood all night long. He gave every customer an attitude throughout the night including my boyfriend and I. The tipping point was when he accidentally gave me a tequilia soda instead of my order, a tequila sour, and when I told him the mistake and asked him to correct it, he gave me a cup of ice and sour mix with NO alcohol in it. I've worked in the service industry and understand the fustration of returned orders, but I have never sabotaged somone in this way and feel it is unacceptable. I am severely disappointed in the service I recieved tonight and hope that this bartender does not let his personal attitude affect his performance going forward. read more

I had a great experience here last Saturday night. I rolled in with a party trolley full of people and avoided the cover thanks to their events director, Stephen, who was incredibly accomodating. Big thumbs up to them. Sometimes going to a bar like this in Boston is what you make of it. Be realistic. If you want to chat booze with the bartender or go hunker down in a corner for some stimulating conversation with a friend, maybe this place isn't a good choice on a Saturday night. I would think that would be obvious by its proximity to the Garden and general meat-head crowd standing outside the door. But sometimes some of us like to get a little rowdy. We like a stiff drink, a dance floor, and the opportunity to wave our hands over our heads like we are the best dancers in the world- yeah, that's right, judge me. That's The Harp. It was fun, the beer was cold and the selection wasn't offensive, shots were cheap, and the staff was awesome- even the bouncers who took one look at us barreling out of our party trolley with the look on their faces like "oh shit, we've got a live one..." They still welcomed us with open arms and smiles and laughs at our amazing appearance. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I do sympathize with the $10 cover gripe. I hate cover charges, and since I didn't pay one I can't complain too bad, but I feel for you all. Also- I'm surprised about all the "underage" comments on here... Met my mom and brother here for a dinner. They came from out of state. Server REALLY lacked a personality, but was decently attentive. Food was delicious. I had a BLT and it had a lot of flavor for being such a typical food. My brother ordered a medium burger and it was cooked PERFECTLY which is definitely not common in the Boston área. This bar was recommended to me as the best bar in Boston by a friend, but I could not disagree more. I got there at 11 and had to wait in a long line only to pay a $10 cover. Five I'm fine with, but ten for this place is a little too much. I had two out of town friends with me and wanted to show them the best of Boston, but I think this left them with a sour taste of bean town. Live band upstairs, dance floor downstairs...but you could hardly hear the band over the loud pop music from 2009. The downstairs area might have been fun, but the dj was truly horrible starting off the night with drunken 2 a.m. favorites like "Don't stop believin'" and "It's tricky." At around one he started playing all the most popular songs from the last 4 years, not including 2011...or 2010. It also got so crowded down there you could barely move. This is by far the worst establishment I have ever been to. Not an exaggeration - seriously do not go here if you have any standards. First, we paid $10 to enter, even though we were with a birthday party. Apparently, free entrance for birthday parties ends at 10:30. I could never be drunk enough by 10:30 to want to go here. After we paid our $10, we walked inside to find a floor soaked with puddles of spilled beer, barely able to function 25 year olds who wish they were still in college, and overpriced drinks. Basically someone played the instrumentals to songs and some weird dude with zero talent sang along... like to everything from Lady Gaga to Journey. I don't know why I paid ten dollars to listen to some freakazoid sing when I could have listened to my ipod for free. There were two violent fist fights while I was here. The police came and arrested several of the patrons. Classy much? Not really. This place is filled with huge creepers. Everyone is beyond hammered and trying to touch you, or falling on top of you, or spilling their drink on you, or a combination of the above. Someone smashed a beer bottle on the floor in front of me, and 5 seconds later a sloppily drunk middle aged woman dropped her drink on my foot. If you are a major creep with zero standards in music or drinks, then this is the place for you. I have never written such a negative review in my life, but I really feel the need to urge people: DO NOT GO HERE. You will save $10 and your dignity. Okay, so we have all been to the harp for dancing. We have all waited in the ridiculous line, or come here to watch a sports game. And yes, danced in the "boom boom room". It's a Boston bar, and with that, it would get 3 stars. But this is for the food. I had the luxury of eating here. At first when my friend suggested to meet there, I was a little hap-hazard. Let's Go Buffalo! The Bills make me wanna SHOUT! Yes - one of two Bill's bars in the city (the other is Bleacher Bar) - this place is a surefire venue to tap into some Buffalo people whenever a Buffalo team is playing. For the Bills games in particular they give out free wings and other snacks at Halftime (sometimes even Mighty Taco!). The service has never been stellar, but is always ok - the crowd can be a little "college-y" on weekends... I only come for Buffalo purposes. read more
