I always like to read the bad reviews before coming to a place so I can set my expectations right. We came here for breakfast. It's really kind of the only breakfast restaurant spot in this little town. The service was very friendly. We're not from here and we felt treated like we were friends or regulars. They have a good country music playlist that plays on the speakers on a good level where we could comfortably carry on a conversation at the table. The menu was hard to read due to its format of all capital letters smashed together but it was fine. Prices seemed high for a little town. Coffee seemed a little watered down but it was always filled up when it was getting low. That's all the "bad" there really was. Food came out and I think it justified the costs. They didn't skimp on portion at all. Toast wasn't homemade but they toasted it just right with the perfect amount of butter. The filling on the 3 egg omelette was plenty! Hashbrowns were of abundance. It had a good crisp on the outside and was soft inside. Ham was grilled great and not too dry. Gravy was tasty. We passed through La Pine on our way to Bend from Shasta. If you've never done that drive before, it's one LOOONG straightaway with the same scenery for HOURS. Not really anything else along the way except pine trees and sand. By the time you exit, you're just looking for some sort of relief for your eyes. I didn't find it here. I think based on the name we were expecting something that was more Whole Foods and less 7-11. OK maybe a little better than 7-11, more like a little league snack shack hamburger from a frozen patty. The menu's did have large enough font to read, but the layout was nonexistent. Just laminated sheets of paper printed on fluorescent paper stock. Prices were soso. About $23 per person including tip. Was the price to quality ratio there? Not at all. The burger came slathered with mayonnaise which I find absolutely disgusting. If people want mayo, just put it in a little cup on the side. Don't force it. I can go into all sorts of snarky reasons why I don't like it, but just trust that I don't like it. The bun basically fell apart as I ate. It could have been grilled or toasted to avoid this but it wasn't. The "Stack" as I like to call it was out of order. Now some places prefer a produce top stack (produce on top of the patty) but personally I prefer the bottom produce as the lettuce does a good job of keeping the patty from getting soggy. The cheese... Just look at my picture. "Aged Cheddar" ? Looks like just standard slices. The bacon was OK. Way too many tots. Pattie tasted OK but not $15 OK. Overall most of my burger tasted like it had been previously cooked, components reheated then reassembled. Bun was stale, dry, fell apart, meat was kind of meh. Pretty much everyone in my family of 4 said it wasn't that great as we drove off. Later on that night my son got stomach sick and had to expel his lunch out the way it came in. It seemed slow when we were there. Maybe things are fresher when it's busy, but it will be a long long time before I'm in the area again to try it, if ever since we were just passing through. read more

Our server, Krystal must've decided she didn't like us from the get-go. After asking/reminding her that we wanted water, she finally brought it to the table. Never asked if we wanted coffee refills despite walking through the restaurant multiple times with a coffee pot. We split the "norm" and the plate came out looking like the food was thrown up onto the plate - just gross, zero presentation. Okay, so I don't want to harsh on a small business and I usually don't complain, but the food here was unappetizing at best. Just wanted a decent sandwich in a chill location. Instead, I got inedible fries greasy and cooked in a fryer that clearly has not had the oil changed in forever. The meat chunks in the sandwiches were hefty--not thinly sliced as you would expect if they used a slicer instead of a dull butcher knife to chew off slabs of low quality meat. This--all for the price of 16 or 17 dollars per sandwich. To make matters worse,they screech about politics on their menu claiming that the reason their food is overpriced is due to my vote. No thanks! To fix their grocery bill maybe they should portion their meats better and get more business by making appetizing food that tastes better. I get it's just a local diner but I highly suggest looking elsewhere for better quality food and a cleaner less preachy atmosphere. Next time I go through the area I'm going to try the Mohawk Diner so I can support a local business but avoid paying 20 bucks for inedible food read more

We stopped by Harvest Depot for breakfast on our way to Bend. It was a beautiful day and they had a lot of options for outdoor seating. The downside is that the restaurant is next to a gas station so it's often downwind of strong petrol smells. Of course one of the members of the only other party on the patio had a very loud phone conversation for over ten minutes, but that's not the restaurant's fault (although would have loved if someone told him to pipe down! It was so disruptive.) Our server was attentive and friendly and got us our food very quickly. The food was fine. My pancakes were crumbly and the potatoes were decent, but overall we were pretty underwhelmed. Also was pretty turned off by the staff uniform shirts having political messages on them. It's a private business and they're welcome to express their political leanings, but why put it on a staff shirt? Not everyone was wearing them, so perhaps the employees share the opinions, but felt like it was being forced on people. read more

We came here hungry after a long drive. It was refreshing to see that they served Tropical Iced Tea because not alot of places offer it. I ordered the Fried Shrimp and the Jalapeño Cheese Puffs. The portion sizes are very generous. I loved my entree ! We were so full but we did order the Forest Pie to go. It's made up of a variety of berries. We had to eat it the next morning because we were rushing around. I was going to miss out on the pie because I thought it would be too early for me to eat . I'm so glad I gave in because honestly it was the best pie I've tasted. I wish I had it in the restaurant with a side of vanilla ice cream. It wasn't tart but perfectly sweet. Not too sweet though. Went there for dinner in the middle of a historic heatwave. Service was quick, friendly and they were busy. It is hard to make a chef salad memorable but this one was really a cut above. You have to try their version of the honey mustard dressing! The wife had the chicken wings with their special bbq sauce. I had to try one along with the fresh cut fries. Again, a real winner. When we sat down at the table, we were immediately faced with notices saying they had to TRIPLE their prices because of some lame excuse. The turkey in the club sandwiches tasted like cheap, canned meat. And the cheese looked like plastic. The bacon was thick and greasy and the onion rings were just as greasy. The soup of the day was hamburger soup which didn't sound appealing. The only decent meal was the chicken fingers, but even that had a bone in it. I took the breading off and you can see the fish and scales. No processing here with their own breading. Freeesh fishies not that it matters since its deep fried :D Patty melt. The meat had no seasoning upom request. The flavors are great. I assume the patties were prepped in the back opposed to from a box. Next time im up and the other spots are closed (to minorities :P) then i will come back here.
