Talk about a slice of old-school Americana. Mom's in Ringoes is a welcome throwback to a simpler, more relaxed time. "More coffee, Bob?" rings out from across the smallish, cozy room. Workers that all seem to be family cruise effortlessly through the cute butcher-block tables that are supported by old Singer sewing machine bases. Everything just seems so.... normal. Nothing fancy, nothing artificial. Even the pace of the room seemed relaxed and unhurried, and yet, the food came out quickly and efficiently, served with a warm smile. Speaking of the food, my blueberry pancakes were sublime. Slightly crispy on the edges, thick enough, but not so thick as to feel like I am eating a slice of cake. A good amount of actual blueberries, plenty of whipped butter, and (gasp) REAL maple syrup (available for a slight up-charge). I got two portions, and was happy to pay the extra fee! Such a simple addition, and well worth the money. If you don't want to pay more for that level of quality and experience, there is plenty of 'regular' syrup on the table. Third-generation owner Chrissy came over to say hello, and I wish her all the success in the world. She seems to take on the Sisyphean task of preserving this little roadside gem in a world obsessed with faster, cheaper, more convenient food with a smile, but her face reveals the underlying realization that the world is changing around her. The short ride down Rt. 179 into Ringoes from Rt. 202 feels like entering a time machine, a trip back to a simpler, more honest and real time. What a great way to start any day. It certainly started this reviewer's Saturday off with a smile. I'll be back.

I absolutely love Mom's. The breakfast here is so good, the hunters omelet and pumpkin pancakes are unmatched. It feels like you're eating in your grandmas kitchen filled with old local memorabilia. I 100% recommend, when you don't want a jersey bagel come to Mom's. But remember it is cash only!

Mom's Restaurant sits in the heart of the village-like Ringoes, NJ. It could easily be mistaken for grandma's house, but for the lights and signs all around. It has been a food outlet for some time given the knotty pine and exposed brick walls, butcher block table tops attached to Singer Treadles, that at one time provided the foot power to large black sewing machines before the advent of easily accessible electricity. The place feels like Jersey Country. Her menu is all about breakfast and lunch. The morning feast options included a large variety of pancakes, french toast and omelets, the former of which use fresh ingredients where possible (pumpkin pancakes, steamed apples on top of any grill item, peaches, nuts, etc.) I was overwhelmed with all the options and took a while to read all the descriptions. So much sweetness; so little time! I ended up with the apple crisp pancakes. They consisted of three cakes with a few splotches of sugary crunch, and a large amount of apple slices covered in thick pomme goo. A bottle rocket of generic Log Cabin was on the table if more sugar was desired. Luckily, I am not diabetic. Despite all the colloidal glucose, the pancakes themselves were pretty dry inside and had little taste. The apple ooze did not penetrate beneath the surface, making the eating a bit awkward - heavy sweetness and chunky apple slices on the surface, but without a supporting flavorful base to complement. They really need to find a better pancake batter, because this one was lacking. They also should put some of the topping into the mix to bring up the texture and taste. After all, shouldn't apple pancakes have apples inside the pancakes? Just askin'. My mom could do better.

Super cute little diner in New Jersey for whatever diner food your heart desires! I stopped in for breakfast on a trip from New Jersey to Philly and it definitely hit the spot. The restaurant is pretty small nonetheless very cozy and welcoming. I was warmly greeted by a server who showed me to my table and brought me water. I ordered some simple breakfast food- eggs, ham, toast, potatoes. Everything was great though! Plus delicious coffee! My boyfriend had a specialty omelette which was recommended by the waiter and he loved it! We then decided to add a waffle which totally hit the spot! So glad we stopped in here. We were looking for a classic 'mom and pop' sort of home-y diner and that's exactly what we found! Great prices as well. I would definitely recommend!

I was very impressed by the way we were greeted by Noelle at the door. A little bit of history of the renovated barn turned into a cozy, well-appointed Stockton area BYOB, some smiling chat and then we were off to our table to what we were looking forward to since we made our reservation. I love the idea of the prix fixe menu with a well-rounded selection (fish, seafood, meat, and vegan choices, etc.) Apps The potato soup had a nice smooth consistency, full pieces of lobster meat, a touch of truffle. 4 stars The tuna tartare was fresh but seriously underwhelming. Not much flavor nor pizazz there. I wish I got something else. 2 stars Entrees The seafood ramen noodle thingy, explained to us that it was a newer item in the menu and very popular was the highlight of my evening. The stock is everything in ramen dishes and this was no exception. Excellent lobster stock and perfectly prepared shrimp, cooked to a snap when bitten into. The marinated egg was very different and very good. It had a nice strong tingling taste. 5 stars The braised short rib was tender but dry. However, when mixed with the au jus and pureed carrots on the plate, it livened and juiced the meat up. The roasted broccolini was inedible. Totally undercooked, chewy and a waste of a fine veg. 3 stars Dessert The peach and biscuit napolean presented itself fantastically, was looking forward to the first bite out of this jar of delight and then fell flat. The peaches were hard and tasted like unripen fruit. The honey and syrup and the sweetness of the whipped cream was all one can taste. Very disappointed and a waste of calories. 2 stars Service Hostess 5 stars, wait people 4 stars. It would have been 5 stars, or perfect, if we didn't have to wait 25 minutes for our dessert which was ordered pre-dinner. It's not like it had to be baked fresh, I didn't think. Maybe they had to whip up and bake the biscuits. And also, this was the type of place where you have to chase down your server to get your check and then once again chase them down to take your card. Now, would I go back? If I was in the area, maybe. Some of the other apps and entrees I saw being served looked very interesting. But that was the main problem I had here. Presentation was creative and art-like but some dishes ended up not living up to the vision.

Which has two doors, by the way, one to the restaurant and one to the back. I was tempted to go out the back when I was done just for fun. Anyway, that's not why we came. We came for the food. The dining room has a warm atmosphere without being too loud, so you can actually have a conversation without shouting. We started with the seasonal pickle plate (beets, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, fennel, olives) and the bread plate (three different breads with two different butters and olive oil). Both were a good way to kick things off. The pickled vegetables had a nice variety and the bread was fresh and paired well with the accompaniments. For our entrees, my wife went with the homemade pasta while I chose the Wagyu NY strip steak cooked medium rare with bourbon maple glazed root vegetables. The steak was cooked exactly as requested and had great flavor. The root vegetables added a nice sweetness that complemented the dish well. My wife really enjoyed her pasta and had enough to take some home. To finish the night, we had the mozzarella gelato (yes, you read that right - mozzarella), along with tea for my wife and coffee and Sambuca for me. The gelato was a unique dessert and a nice way to wrap up the meal. Our waitress Jemma was very friendly and attentive throughout the night without being overbearing. Overall, everything was very good. This is definitely a place we would return to, especially for a nice dinner out.
