This was my first time going to Amwell Valley Diner and it was a pretty decent experience! The food was pretty amazing as I went with 3 other people. 3/4 of us got omelettes and one of us got a burger. Everything we got to eat was outstanding. The service was good and very nice. The only thing is it wasn't the best vibe. In my opinion, I think the restaurant was very outdated meaning older and more classic. This diner was like stepping back in time to the 60's! Clean and well maintained, we stopped in for breakfast after a morning trip to Flemington. We ordered the typical breakfast fare; eggs and bacon which came with home fries and toast. Everything was cooked really well including the crispy bacon! My partner got the Hungry Man which included pancakes with eggs and bacon. We were seated as soon as we walked in, and our server was friendly and efficient. We were riding by on our way to Gettysburg and avoiding the turnpike when we came upon this diner. We wanted breakfast!! So we went in and it was so cute, neat and clean. Recently I went to the Amwell Valley Diner in Ringoes NJ. It's only about an hour from me, so it's surprising it's taken me this long to venture up there. I arrived around noon on Sunday. I expected it to be more crowded, but I quickly found a booth. Atmosphere: The Amwell Valley Diner is an old school metallic diner. It matches everything you visualize in a diner from the chrome exterior to the powder blue booths inside.  There are plenty of booths, tables, as well as a full-length bar. Coffee: The Amwell Valley Diner brews the local Lacas coffee which was a nice surprise. Even though the mug was small, it was refilled often. Food: The Amwell Valley Diner has all of the stereotypical diner options: eggs, wraps, and a few dinner options. There isn't anything unique on the menu, but it has enough options to please anyone. I decided to order the new Mediterranian sampler. It came with olives, hummus, pita, Tzatziki sauce, and an olive tapenade. It was kind of thrown together and could have used a better presentation. Other than that, it was good. There was nothing special but a good appetizer I would order again. Keeping in a Greek mood, I decided to order a gyro with fries. The gyro was stuffed with plenty of gyro meat, Tzatziki sauce, and lettuce. The fries were nice and crispy, which is my favorite. Service: The food came out quickly, and the waitress was friendly and funny. It was clear all of the waitresses enjoyed their job and working there. Overall Thoughts/Would I come Back? We ordered 2 salads to go on a Saturday night. They were very pleasant on the phone, apologized that it would take 20 minutes to prepare! The Cobb salad was beautiful, huge and well presented with plenty of dressing in to go cups. The Greek salad was lacking. It arrived over dressed (see picture) and soggy, very close to inedible. It was less than half the size of the Cobb and although the dressing was delicious, there was more than a quarter of a cup of it at the bottom of the container. It never occurred to me to ask for dressing on the side, a to go salad should NEVER be dressed. read more

Stopped by with a college friend for some dinner one night. It was around 5 or 6 and the place was dead, and I mean empty except for us, the waitstaff, and the manager I assume. Suffice to say seating and service was no issue. The waitress was very nice. I got a tuna "triple rocket" sandwich and my friend got some breakfast, eggs, Taylor ham (not pork roll), toast. I was a little disappointed with the tuna sandwich. Everything tasted ok, but there wasn't much tuna on it at all. Had a hard boiled egg, lettuce and tomatoes. No bacon, which was a little upsetting. It came with fried and a cup of soup. I got the lentil soup and that was good. The fries were alright, crispy, just have to season them yourself. Amwell Valley Diner Restaurant is an old school Jersey diner owned and operated by Greeks (as almost all Jersey diners are) on Rt. 31 in Ringoes, New Jersey. It has been at this location for several decades, but I had not eaten here in almost that long. Returning from Flemington, I decided to stop in and see what was cooking. The floor plan has a long counter on one side, and booths along the front wall. There is more dining space off to one side. The menu is what you would expect from a stainless steel kitchen, with a 24/7 breakfast and plenty of lunch and dinner combos. I was attracted to the Mousaka, and asked my server about it. She assured me it was authentically Greek and made in house. Along with it came options for a cup of soup, a side salad, and a basket of fresh hot bread. All this for $12.99. I wasn't sure I wanted that much food, but it was an opportunity to try a variety of things. The Chicken Noodle Soup was made with farfalle pasta and had a few chunks of vegetables. While it was okay, the broth was weak, as if diluted to add volume. I did like the bowties floating in the cup. The Side Salad was 95% Iceberg Lettuce with a few slices of cucumber and carrots. The Balsamic dressing was thin and oily, and the greens hardly worth the effort to chew. I left it barely touched. The Mousaka was a large portion with sliced Potatoes on the bottom, Ground Beef in the middle, Eggplant above that, and topped in Bechamel Sauce. While not the best Greek entre I have ever had, it was substantial and had a good taste. Service came with a smile, and my server reminded me that dessert was also part of the deal. She handed me a mini cup of Rice Pudding. I really had no room for it, so I took a taste, knew that it was again a decent effort at this classic, if far from best of breed (I do love me some rice pudding). Tucked away in the Amwell Valley, my expectations were not high for this diner. It was a decent place for dinner, but nothing was good enough to make me a fan. read more

Stopped in yesterday afternoon to meet someone. When I arrived, I was the only one in the place (it was 4:00 PM and sleeting), but that changed shortly thereafter. The two women working there could not have been friendlier or more welcoming; nor the man who came out from the kitchen. After the person I was to meet came and left, I decided to try something from their selection of freshly made in-house cakes and pies. While the banana cream and chocolate peanut butter pies were extremely tempting, I went with your basic chocolate cake and it was excellent - moist, chocolate-y without being overly sweet. I will be going back to try breakfast tomorrow, but the desserts alone are worth the 20-minute drive from New Hope! read more

Great spot on an otherwise hungry road. Service at 8pm on a Tuesday was friendly and prompt. Everyone was very nice and offered some good conversation and meal recommendations. We enjoyed a spanakopita platter with an great Greek side salad, and an egg salad sandwich platter, which required a dash of salt but had some super crispy fries. Both came with an awesome lentil soup. Classic diner, lots of no nonsense folks and regulars enjoying a meal. Prices were fair. Stopped for a late lunch. The restaurant had both out door and indoor seating. We chose indoor. The place was immaculate. The waitress was very friendly and made suggestions of what customer favorites were. I had a Mediterranean salad and it came with soup. Both the beef barley soup and the salad were delicious. Three stars seems to fit this place well. They do nothing well not bad, but middle of the road. Tonight we ordered a variety of things such as coffee, French toast, home fries, chicken noodle soup, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks. Let's start with the good stuff. The server was nice and attentive, the coffee seems to be a pretty good blend and the sauce for the mozzarella sticks had nice flavor. The soup was pretty bare when it came to chicken, it was mainly noodles and broth. The chicken tenders looked like something from the freezer, the Home fries were pretty greasy despite being cooked crispy and the the French toast was easily the blandest I've ever had. They really offer no reason for return business and I almost think they make their money from the truckers who cannot fit into most parking lots and have little choices for food while traveling in 31. read more

Ok, so a quick word of explanation. I go to a lot of diners. Every Friday, my Dad and I go birding and after seeing a rarity or two, there's nothing better then visiting a new diner and tucking into a good breakfast. And with that, cue the obligatory diner intro.... I don't go to diners for seafood, steaks, meatloaf, triple decker sandwiches or mile high pies. For me, there is only one meal to be had-Lox and onion omelette, well done home fries and rye toast with a good cup of coffee. I've had this very same meal at dozens of diners throughout New Jersey. From the horrifically bad to mighty fine. The Amwell Valley Diner did not have our favorite omelette so we ordered our usual standbyes, one bacon and pne onion omelette. Both were cooked well. Home fries were delicious as was the coffee. Friendly server. Only the rye toast was anemic. We don't get to this corner of Hunterdon County often but when we do, we are sure to stop here. read more

Just had a fantastic Saturday breakfast here. It's a cozy NJ diner with a classic interior. Huge plus - if you order coffee they leave a whole pitcher at your table! And it's really good coffee too My western omelet, which I requested to be made with egg whites and no cheese came out perfectly cooked (not too wet, not too dry) and exactly as ordered. Loaded with ingredients too. But the home fries that came with them were what really stood out - no grease! And they threw in some grilled onions upon request. Portions were perfect for me and I'm a big guy. All in all, definitely worth coming back to for breakfast. Seems like it's hard these days to find a diner that doesn't over grease things and I'm pretty health conscious so this is great! read more

I really like this diner for breakfast. They do hash browns literally perfectly--a little sear and nice and fluffy. Not these over-oiled things you see at so many diners, even in NJ. My omelette was also cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of ingredients from cheese to veggies. I think if you stick to the standard fare you're going to do all right. read more

My significant other and I dropped by Amwell Valley Diner at around 6:30 PM on a Friday during a road trip. Everything was just... OK. There was plenty of tables/booths available at that time and we were quickly seated and helped with minimal fuss. I got an order of steak and eggs, while my SO got the chicken parmesan. Both entrees were perfectly acceptable -- not the best we'd ever had, but reasonably edible. I did think the breading on the chicken parmesan was soggier than I would've preferred, though, and neither entree came out piping hot, just lukewarm. read more

We had a very nice dinner at the Amwell Valley Diner. Clean, order accurate, waitress pleasant, good prices and food was tasty and not too much (right sized portion). We ordered pancakes (husband said they were just ok?), pork roll sandwich (three thick slices) and BLT (good amount of bacon), so nothing fancy. Fries with BLT were very crisp and fresh and sandwiches came with soup. I thought chicken noodle soup was good. Also coffee was top notch and thermal carafe left on table to self refill. It's funny. I have been reading reviews of diners for hours in a vain effort to find a good place for my far-flung family to meet while we are in the same area of the country for the holidays. I have come to the conclusion that these on-line reviews are absolutely pointless. You may as well ask a a goldfish for a review. One reviewer says "Fantastic! I have never eaten such great food! The price was dirt cheap and the staff was super friendly, giving me a massage while I ate. They refused to take a tip and to my astonishment had changed the oil in my car, detailed and waxed it while i ate" then another says "Absolutely horrible. The so-called food was either rancid, overcooked, undercooked or downright toxic. I ended up in the hospital with food poisoning and one member of my party died at the table after the waitress buried a meat cleaver in his head after he complained about a bandaid (with scab) in his omelet. The staff is beyond rude and the prices are astronomical." Who can you believe? What is to prevent the owner from posting glowing reviews and competitors from posting slanderous one star reviews? Nothing. There is no point to Yelp - or any other on-line reviews without strict moderation. This is why organs such as the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Review exist. read more

We stopped for dinner at the Amwell Valley Diner on our way back from Flemington. We were hungry, it was Sunday and another place in the neighborhood was closed. We said, "How bad could a NJ diner be?" Unfortunately we found out. True, we broke a cardinal rule: Never order Italian food in a diner. But the pot roast was gone, and the specials sheet, the safest place in a such a restaurant, offered little else to choose from. Both our dinners came with soup and salad, the first of which was a lukewarm chicken broth with plain noodles, and the second of which was iceberg lettuce and a slice or two of cucumber. Even the "vinaigrette" dressing was nondescript. When the main of Chicken Marsala with linguine arrived, the waitress deftly snatched a hair off the plate. She looked well practiced; did she think I hadn't noticed? It was the oddest Marsala I've ever had---the brown sauce that had been dumped on the chicken and overcooked pasta had certainly never been anywhere near a bottle of Marsala wine. In fact I don't think the sauce had been anywhere but in a package of powder. The chicken had something covering it, but I don't think it can be called "breaded". I think "pasted" would be a better term. The second entree was supposed to be "Chicken Piccata". No lemon, no capers, no parsley, no flavor. The chicken sat atop the same watery, overcooked linguine. For some strange reason, the kitchen had put something that resembled mozzarella cheese on top. I think there would have been cheese on the Marasala as well, if I hadn't specifically asked about it when I ordered. The bill for this miserable food came to about $30 without the tip. And after all, the waitress deserved something for removing the hair. As a remembrance, one of us had diarrhea twelve hours later. My advice: if you find yourself hungry while driving through the Amwell Valley on Route 31, resist the temptation and keep driving. read more

Typical NJ diner, as far as first appearances. Once you get inside, though, there is nothing typical about it. Very disappointing. We walked in and stood there for a minute, and a lady sitting at the counter drinking coffee finally got up and asked "how many?" I wasn't sure what was going on, because as far as I was concerned, she was just another customer. Turns out, she was the hostess. OK, cool. We got our seats and I ordered a hot pastrami sandwich, and my son ordered a bacon cheeseburger. Service was very quick. We had our food within about 8 minutes. Food was a huge disappointment. The pastrami sandwich was simply pastrami stacked roughly 1/2" high, on slightly toasted rye, That was it. Nothing else. NO cheese, NO pickles, NO onions, NOTHING. Just bread and a small amount of meat. Mustard was set on the table in a squeeze bottle, but seriously, too little too late, What a let down. This "sandwich" was a complete and total failure. It came with fries, which needed salt, and were just about on par with any other cheap fries you'd find at another diner. The menu also said that it came with a complimentary bowl of the soup of the day. I was never asked if I wanted it, or served any soup. I didn't bother asking about it after the sandwich was brought out because judging by the sorry excuse for a sandwich, I figured the "soup" would probably be a cup of hot water with some salt and pepper tossed in for flavor. My son's burger looked good, and he seemed to like it, but that pastrami sandwich was a joke. Adding this to the list of places that I won't be visiting again. This place is a waste of time and money, just keep driving. read more

I enjoyed a really great Greek omelet made with egg whites. This was the best Greek omelet I have ever had. Also the home fried potatoes with it were terrific. Had a wonderful breakfast here last Sunday. We used to come here a couple years ago, then the owners left and the diner went down so we stopped coming. Recently we started seeing lots of cars at the diner again and thought let's try it again... Sure enough the original owners are back and so is the quality of the food (at least for breakfast). Love the coffee, wonderful thick sausage, great corn beef hash and my husband who loves pancakes and is very fussy loved their pancakes!!! We will be back to try lunch and dinner! read more

The food is NASTY! It tasted like it was all frozen or boxed. When the owner asked how the food was we told him. He got rude and acted like the bad food was our fault. there was 4 people in our party. 2 people threw up from the turkey.
