Jill was very nice and offered to switch out soup. There was not many people at 3 to 4. Jill was the best waitress ever. Christmas decorations super nice and very clean. Reminded me of the good old days in the 70s. Can we all say thank you to Jill though. BURGER WAS WELL DONE QND ASKED FOR MEDIUM. It's ok because took it back and was better. Jill was ok.

Recently I went to the Amwell Valley Diner in Ringoes NJ. It's only about an hour from me, so it's surprising it's taken me this long to venture up there. I arrived around noon on Sunday. I expected it to be more crowded, but I quickly found a booth. Atmosphere: The Amwell Valley Diner is an old school metallic diner. It matches everything you visualize in a diner from the chrome exterior to the powder blue booths inside.  There are plenty of booths, tables, as well as a full-length bar. Coffee: The Amwell Valley Diner brews the local Lacas coffee which was a nice surprise. Even though the mug was small, it was refilled often. Food: The Amwell Valley Diner has all of the stereotypical diner options: eggs, wraps, and a few dinner options. There isn't anything unique on the menu, but it has enough options to please anyone. I decided to order the new Mediterranian sampler. It came with olives, hummus, pita, Tzatziki sauce, and an olive tapenade. It was kind of thrown together and could have used a better presentation. Other than that, it was good. There was nothing special but a good appetizer I would order again. Keeping in a Greek mood, I decided to order a gyro with fries. The gyro was stuffed with plenty of gyro meat, Tzatziki sauce, and lettuce. The fries were nice and crispy, which is my favorite. Service: The food came out quickly, and the waitress was friendly and funny. It was clear all of the waitresses enjoyed their job and working there. Overall Thoughts/Would I come Back? I liked the Amwell Valley Diner and would go back. It was a pleasant stop.

Good place to stop in for breakfast. Food came out quickly and hot, and the staff was friendly. Can't beat a classic diner breakfast

Soggy lettuce that couldn't be eaten and excess dressing at bottom of to go container

We ordered 2 salads to go on a Saturday night. They were very pleasant on the phone, apologized that it would take 20 minutes to prepare! The Cobb salad was beautiful, huge and well presented with plenty of dressing in to go cups. The Greek salad was lacking. It arrived over dressed (see picture) and soggy, very close to inedible. It was less than half the size of the Cobb and although the dressing was delicious, there was more than a quarter of a cup of it at the bottom of the container. It never occurred to me to ask for dressing on the side, a to go salad should NEVER be dressed.

Amwell Valley Diner Restaurant is an old school Jersey diner owned and operated by Greeks (as almost all Jersey diners are) on Rt. 31 in Ringoes, New Jersey. It has been at this location for several decades, but I had not eaten here in almost that long. Returning from Flemington, I decided to stop in and see what was cooking. The floor plan has a long counter on one side, and booths along the front wall. There is more dining space off to one side. The menu is what you would expect from a stainless steel kitchen, with a 24/7 breakfast and plenty of lunch and dinner combos. I was attracted to the Mousaka, and asked my server about it. She assured me it was authentically Greek and made in house. Along with it came options for a cup of soup, a side salad, and a basket of fresh hot bread. All this for $12.99. I wasn't sure I wanted that much food, but it was an opportunity to try a variety of things. The Chicken Noodle Soup was made with farfalle pasta and had a few chunks of vegetables. While it was okay, the broth was weak, as if diluted to add volume. I did like the bowties floating in the cup. The Side Salad was 95% Iceberg Lettuce with a few slices of cucumber and carrots. The Balsamic dressing was thin and oily, and the greens hardly worth the effort to chew. I left it barely touched. The Mousaka was a large portion with sliced Potatoes on the bottom, Ground Beef in the middle, Eggplant above that, and topped in Bechamel Sauce. While not the best Greek entre I have ever had, it was substantial and had a good taste. Service came with a smile, and my server reminded me that dessert was also part of the deal. She handed me a mini cup of Rice Pudding. I really had no room for it, so I took a taste, knew that it was again a decent effort at this classic, if far from best of breed (I do love me some rice pudding). Tucked away in the Amwell Valley, my expectations were not high for this diner. It was a decent place for dinner, but nothing was good enough to make me a fan.

I also tried the soup of the day which is the chicken corn chowder and I highly enjoyed it. It's a very small cafe and not much room to move about so when it's packed it gets pretty noisy. The couple things I want to note are around how long it was to wait for a table and food. We arrived in the area around 1125am and I called to place my name on the wait-list. Upon answering, the hostess informed me you have to place your name on the waitlist in person. No issue, I walked over to do this. Only to find out that the waitlist is monitored by Yelp, which can easily be done online. So that was very frustrating to see at the start. We then were told to wait 15-20 minutes. When we got to the front of the list, they then informed us that we needed to wait an additional 20-30 minutes as the kitchen needed to flip. This was very confusing and a big turn off. Eventually, I spoke with a woman who allowed us to come inside and sit down instead of waiting outside for over an hour. It would have been nice to know at the outset of this whole interaction that breakfast wasn't going to be an option and then it would be an hour before we could order and eat. At the end of the day, we ate our great food and enjoyed being able to dine at this place. I will just look into a few more places on my next visit here.

Best Soufflé Pancakes ever!…read more Now that I've actually been to Japan I can honestly say I crave these pancakes more than the ones I had overseas! These pancakes are more fluffier and eggier (I think that's a legit word, LOL), and super rich! If you don't like eggs, don't visit because there is a lot of eggy flavor. I've tried the two dominant flavors, Matcha and Strawberry, and I can't tell which one I like better. The light cream topping is better than any butter or maple syrup I've ever had. There is usually one more flavor that they change from time to time as well which I've heard is great. Going on the weekday avoids the wait. The abnormal hours of operation don't make it easy to visit but if you do you'll definitely enjoy. Book the table on Yelp!

J S Foodies is the latter, a small and cheerful outpost of Tokyo imagination where breakfast behaves like theater. I arrived with my boys and my father in law, a man celebrating another year of survival in a universe that has not yet figured out how to improve pancakes. The space is small, and the famous Kiseki pancakes take their time, about twenty to thirty minutes, as if they are being persuaded into existence rather than cooked. These Kiseki pancakes are not pancakes in the American sense. They are soufflé style creations, tall and trembling, as if gravity is only a suggestion. They arrive airy and delicate, with a gentle jiggle that suggests optimism. We ordered accordingly. I had the lemon ricotta, which tasted like sunlight had been filtered through dairy. My oldest chose matcha, green, purple and quietly sophisticated and complex. My youngest went with the original maple, a classic executed so well it made the classics feel new again. All were excellent, the sort of food that makes conversation pause because mouths are busy being grateful. My father in law ordered what I personally considered a cautious breakfast. Regular pancakes with eggs and bacon. A meal that could have been assembled in any roadside diner between here and forever. Yet even this was handled with care. The eggs were perfect, the bacon honest, the pancakes dignified. No irony, no shortcuts. Yes, the prices are a little steep. But this is not a place for routine nourishment. This is a place for occasions, for birthdays, for reminding yourself that breakfast can aspire to something like art. Five stars, because sometimes the world surprises you by getting something exactly right.
