After driving 250 miles, I really didn't want to have to wait in line to order my dinner. But, since this place has good reviews, I decided to give it a try. Now, I hadn't planned on having pizza, since I've already had 4 pizzas in the past 10 days. But, when I read they were the wood-fired pizza, and the oven was from Italy, I knew I just had to try it. So, I ordered their Margarita Pizza, along with a local light Brew. Both, were really good, as is evident by the empty glass and nearly clean pie plate. Now, as someone who has had pizza in Naples, Italy, the pizza was pretty darn close to what I had there. Though, I think the ingredients used here, vs there, made a bit of a difference to the taste. I ordered a combo pizza for delivery. I guess all their pizzas are 12inch, but that's ok. Investors the char on the crust. Wood fired oven. Price was 18.00 which I thought was a little high for that size pizza, but the pizza beat the heck out of the cookie cutter pizza places like Caesars, dominos, Pizza Hut and papa John's which I consider ordered through Doir Dash. There are a limited number of restaurants open on Sunday, but thankfully The Haul is one of them. Highly recommend if you're spending an evening in Grant's Pass! Cool restaurant with a beer hall vibe and ample seating. The service was great! Didn't have to wait long at all for food and beer was ready a moment after ordering. Water is self serve. Solid selection of beers. Only tried the available porter, but it was tasty, rich, and chocolatey. I ordered the Cuban sandwich for dinner and it was great. The pork was delicious and a nice, interesting touch with cucumber on the sandwich. The fries were delicious - well seasoned, fresh, and cooked to perfection. I liked the pizza crust, it was thin but delish, not like MOD. The edge of crust had a little crisp and a little chew at the same time. Now the tomato sauce was out of a can as it had no spice. It wasn't bad but I love a flavorful marinara much better. The cheese consisted of mozzarella, fontina, and parmesan and it was somewhat lacking in flavor. I liked the pizza but I like other pizzas so much more. I enjoyed the 2 beers that I tried. I also tried the Ruben which was sorely lacking in meat, lots of cabbage though. The fries were good. This is the best pizza I've ever had in Oregon, coincidentally it's the only pizza I've had in Oregon, but I think it would still be the best! I went in there with my wife, anxious to try some craft beer, especially from Conner Fields Brewing, of which this place sells that beer exclusively. The lady behind the bar, I wish I got her name, was SO RUDE, my wife and I just looked at each other, turned around, and walked out. So I don't know if she just hates her job, or just got into an argument with her manager or whatever, or if we would have had a completely different experience with another bartender, but we drive up from Medford, looked forward to going here, and there was no way we going to leave money at a place were the server is that rude. Great food and great service!! We had the hot pepperoni pizza with candied jalapeños and hot honey and it was delicious! Wood fired crust perfect to share for two people for lunch with an excellent side salad. We also had to try one of the tacos because they looked so good and it didn't disappoint. Definitely a place with great ambiance due to its open air atmosphere with large outside tables and good music. We had the a couple of pizzas (Pepperoni and Italian Sausage) and they were tasty. We also had a couple of drafts, though I don't remember which ones as there were alot on Tap. There were 2 people taking orders and working the cash register. From reading many of the reviews of this place, luckily the person that was helping us was fantastic (sooo sorry as I forgot her name). She had us try some beers before selecting what we wanted, was polite and very professional. However, the other person was rude to the other patrons, was not helpful, and could not seem to be bothered. I felt sorry for the people she was helping as they got into a bit of an argument. We were again lucky that our food came out timely, but I could hear many other tables complaining about where their orders were. It's not that the food is great, it's average. Good hamburgers, definitely not frozen, hand-made, and very juicy. The rest of it is questionable. The Haul has it dialed in, every time I have visited before-Covid (BC) and with the most recent visit being in December 2020. I was able to order online and run and get the food take-out, and I felt very safe once inside- with all the Covid Precautions- i.e. limiting people in the waiting area, asking people still stand apart if more than 1 group, having a plexiglass-guard up between the public and the staff as a separation, and still enforcing everyone to wear masks. It felt comfortable and safe. I initially was interested in their butternut squash taco's, as a vegetarian that sounded really delicious and different-then-what-other-restaurants-offer. But, unfortunately they were not available on the day we were getting food, so we pivoted and got pizzas instead. On that day, the Haul was running a special of buying 2 pizzas and getting a 3rd free, and that made sense for our group of 4 Adults. THE PIZZA WAS SOOOOO GOOD! We got the Mushroom-special one, I think it had Chanterelle's on it, and also got the Tri-Colore/Margherita pizza, and for our third one, it came across as a basic cheese and tomato pizza initially. IT was not Basic! IT was very flavorful and robust! Even though, my most- recent visit to the Haul I did not order any alcohol, I have ordered beer, wine and cocktails on previous visits and they have been spot on! The food is great and usually they have a decent beer selection so if I was rating it just on that it would be a 4-5. Parking is easy, service is friendly but not overly helpful, (its an order everything at the counter place), and menu selection is good. If you're bringing kids, know that its a no frills kids menu. Kids items say they come w/veggies but they didn't, no drink is included so you're on the hook for $4-5 non-alcoholic drinks (in pint glasses, no refill offers) and really nothing that makes bringing kids any easier. Says it's open until 10 but when I went in at 9 to order a to go order for dinner I was told they were only going to be serving pizza for the rest of the night instead of the full menu. No where on their website was this indicated. But whatever so I got a pizza and a drink. I paid $26 for it. OVERPRICED! The pizza was fine, nothing outstanding but not bad either. But for $26 it better be good or big and it was neither, it was a measly 6 small slices barely enough for myself let alone 2 people. We ordered a pizza to go, when we got it home, and ate 2 slices each, we noticed there was someone elses food (a fried egg) stuck to the bottm of our pizza. John, the owner was not interested in finding out how the egg got there, only argued that it didnt come from his pizza line. I've been here for dinner several times now and can offer a great review based on a few of their offerings. Firstly I will tell you I am a pizza nut and haven't tried much else from their amazing menu. So, that said I will keep this simple. I've ordered most of their pies and like each one for what they offer in flavor profile. Each hand-tossed dough ball is made flat and layered with all the goodies and cheese. Then paddled in the 750° wood-fired oven until hot, with a crispy bottom. I find the slight, smokey char on the crust adds another facet to pizza and it's great. Unlike other joints, these pies are not greasy at all. Just well sourced ingredients delivered fast and hot to your table. Piping hot, juicy tomatoes, spicy sausage, fresh basil, aged cheese, mellow sauce, yum yum! And then, what's better than pizza? How about the fact they have lots of small craft beers on tap. I had a delicious porter and left for home happy. As a special note, I asked the line cook about the churros on the menu. He said they were made to order and were tasty. As a lover of a sweet finish, I said I'd have to try them sometime. Then a few minutes later, back at my table, the server brought me an order of hot churros on the house! Who does that? When we visited our friends here in Grants Pass, we came here one evening for dinner and some "social time". I immediately liked the vibe at this place; especially the beer benches outside that reminded me of many visits to beer gardens back in Germany. The Haul offers a huge selection of local beer on tap; they definitely have heard the birds singing about the craft beer movement. I actually had a flight of beers...I believe it was four or five beers that I could pick myself. Along with that I ordered the fermentation platter which included a selection of krauts and other pickled vegetables and some bread. I had a nice time here and if fate would ever bring me back to Grants Pass, I would certainly not pass on the opportunity to come by here! read more

Not that I like taco bell but at least their food tastes like SOMETHING... -No one checked on us. On a business trip that brought me to Grants Pass. Found this little gem after realizing our first choice was a dinner only establishment. Was not disappointed in the slightest. Many of the historic buildings in Grants Pass are starting to get a makeover and the building that houses The Haul is but an example. You are treated by easily 10'+ doors that remind you more of a castle than an eatery. You are immediately slapped in the face with the bustling kitchen and fine smells of cooking cheese, pizza's and that wonderful wood fired pizza oven smell. This is a local pour house meaning nothing brewed behind the magic curtain, but an ample selection of local lights and darks to choose from. You are warmly greeted at the door, provided the specials and the menu and then off to the counter for liquid libations and eats. I went with the Tomato Rosemary soup and grilled cheese special $9.00. It was a cool and cloudy day, so the thought of grilled cheese and tomato soup was a home run. No disappointment here. From the crispy cheese that oozed out during cooking to the warm and melted cheese inside, a very nice portion indeed. The soup was topped with nice chips of cheese that when stirred into the soup created wonderful pockets of cheese amongst your soup. Great flavor, didn't even need salt and I like things with plenty of salt and pepper. On my next trip to the area, I fully plan on taking advantage of the wood fired pizza oven. I truly like when a pizza is done well. Add to it, a very urban and industrial feel to the joint and you have a great place to get some good eats and also good brews. I presume that once the weather gets a little warmer, that the large roll up doors will allow some of the great weather to bathe this place in ample sunshine and warmth. I got a hamburger and the rosemary garlic fries...the hamburger was bland and soggy and the fries were so sticky and saucy and I'm not even sure why.
