This is maybe my 5th visit to the Herbfarm over the years. Every time has been delightful. They greeted us with warm apple cider with geranium and portobello. The chef did an inside talk about the herbs and plants being used. We got to do a tour of the wine cellar and you can go upstairs and see the 100s of cookbooks. This menu was "Traditions" and featured foods I normally don't eat, like rutabegas and rabbit. But everything is so delicious. Wine pairings are great and you can add supplements that are often rare or hard to find. I got a little purse stool for my pocketbook so it didn't have to stay on the floor. Classical guitar in the background just makes it so nice. Service is always impeccable. It's definitely a special occasion event, but has always been an amazing meal.

This is our second time here. Parking: plenty free parking Arrival We invite you to arrive as early as 45 minutes prior to the start of your dinner to explore the grounds. Our chefs will be hosting a conversation on the ingredients used in the evening's dinner, while our sommelier will be offering a wine cellar open house. Seating will begin 10 minutes prior to your dinner time. Service: impeccable as usual. They contacted us days prior to know if you have any allergies or special event you celebrate. They greeted you outside the door as you arrived, and served you their tea and a little appetizer before you start your your. You can enjoy your tea and appetizer upstairs in the library. They have a restroom in the library so you don't have to walk downstairs. They keep your table clean and neat. When you go to the restrooms during dinner, they will come and change your napkin with a new one. The Herbfarm is Tasting menu farm to table only. Menu changed every 2 months due to availability. Dinner: $325 per person + 20% service charge + tax included Herbal non alcoholic beverages pairing, or wine pairing or beer if you prefer. It is a 4 hours long dinner. The tour included the chef explaining all the herbs are used for today's dinner. Then there's the wine cellar and dried meat. He showed us the wine collection. Then you can go outside and across. Follow the sign. There you will see the herbs and their pigs pet. Once time for dinner, we were all seated. Our table has special frames with our names and what event you celebrated. You can bring the frames home with you. The chef introduced the team and explained all the ingredients where they sources from and partner with. At the end, they give you special gift, seeds. There's a live music, this guy has been playing for them for the last 15 years.

Hands down one of the best meals I have ever had. The food was full of flavor, and even the courses that focused on simple ingredients such as peas were surprisingly delicious. The wine pairings complemented the meal, and the service was above and beyond exceptional. Even though it was a fancy experience, the dining room felt comfortable and the chef was willing to answer questions at the table about the different courses. I cannot say enough good things about the team that works here and hope to try another season of food in the future!

I went here to treat my girlfriend for her birthday and made reservations a few months out just in case. Usually Sundays are much less busier and imo starts at a more convenient time as the dinner is 4:30pm vs 7:30pm for Friday and Saturday. The experience starts about 45 min before the dinner time, and you're encouraged to show up early to allot time to check out the area and 15 min prior the chef will take guests on a garden tour. The dinner featured 9 courses and wine pairing, and you get to keep the menu on the napkin and the frame which are nice souvenirs. Food is overall good, average in terms of fine dining that I have been within the greater Seattle area and beyond, and service is okay. Definitely falls short of a 5 star experience which is why I gave a 4 stars + I love the bread course and the ribeye course the most + Wine pairing is included in the price, so in comparison to other restaurants, pricing is more fair, though on the higher end nonetheless. Wine pairing is excellent and generous so you end up with 3-4 standard drinks if you wish to drink all of it, and they may refill if you empty the drink quickly (on par with the ultra high end experiences I've been) + The experience included a tour of the estate and the garden + Friendly staff, especially the sommelier that deep dived into the wines prior to the dinner in the wine cellar + Cadence of food is good. Communal table allowed good conversation and I tried it just for the unique experience, would recommend (-) A bit of shortcuts taken. I eyed another table that had a candle in the dessert, presumably a birthday celebration, yet none of the birthday people on our communal table received something special on their dessert plate. It's a small touch that adds up (-) Some of the dishes were way too salty like the vegetables in the quail course (-) When the server poured the tea with the filter, they weren't mindful in making sure the extra tea didn't drip when they take out the filter. As a result, my bag ended up having a few drops of tea (-) In one instance of pouring water, the water splashed around the table set, something that shouldn't happen when you're paying hundreds for the experience

The Herbfarm is the epitome of classy gourmet dining in Washington state. Not only was the sommelier very attentive and granted our request for a second pour of the Riesling, but the executive chef delivered most of our courses along with a nice explanation of each dish and answered all of our questions. The dining room is decorated in French countryside style. Most of the tables are set up for two or four people, but they also have a big table for large groups and a large community table. The food is second to none! Every course was absolutely delicious and so fresh and absolutely unique. Each of the nine courses was served with a glass of perfectly paired wine. We loved our revelry for spring menu. We were seated at seven and the courses were very well paced and not too large so that when we finished around 10 PM, we were not too full. A wonderful place to enjoy a celebratory dinner!

Came for a Saturday night dinner in the winter and it's almost like a show. You need a reservation to dine here so go to the website and make the reservation. You have an option of sitting at a communal table where you meet other people or a private table. Both are great option, it just depends on what you are in the mood for. The chef and sommelier start the evening off by going over the menu and the wine pairings and there was a guitarist playing in the dining room. The ambiance is awesome and is the service. The menu changes seasonally. Our meal was a winter menu and the food was great. The lamb and sturgeon were my two favorites with the bao and broth a close third. The palate cleanser and desserts were all very good. Overall it was an enjoyable meal in a pleasant setting and worth the splurge.

The Herbfarm is a fantastic restaurant and experience. This is the best place to go for any special occasion, the food and service is spectacular. Then the interior is stunning and elegant, but you also feel very comfortable. Although Seattle is casual, you will in here better if you dress up a bit. If you do go, I recommend staying at the Willows Inn. It is a long meal and you want to drink all of the great paired beverages and nice to be able to have a small stroll to your room. I have been here a few times and it was fabulous each time. They continually rotate the menu to go with the seasons and availability of fresh food, but each visit was just perfect. I did a detailed review of food in past review, but it must have disappeared. I was just going to post a few photos and share some updates, but have waited too long and forgot details. I do know we both had the best time and strongly recommend people to visit here if they have never done it.

This is an incredible fine dining restaurant. The reservation lasts for about 4 hours and there's many courses of food and wine that come to you. The chefs do a great job explaining the food and where everything is from. You also get a tour of the garden before the dinner with the chef and you can try some of the herbs there. I'd recommend this for a birthday or anniversary dinner. Definitely come hungry!

This place is absolutely Magical. Spend the money, get the wine pairing. Talk to everyone, the service is impressive and perfect! The Food is a journey to another land. Let them feed you. Don't fight it. Just do it. It's beautiful inside and this place transports you to another world. So like I said, just do it. Don't bring picky people who will Complain and are picky eaters. Leave them at home. You will thank me later!

I'm a little late in writing this review. It's been about a month since we were there. I have never been to such an amazing place. At first I thought it was a little pricey, but after weighing the price against the pros/cons. It was definitely worth it. Ryan the host sat us at our table right next to the kitchen. We were a party of two celebrating a milestone. Definitely a date night. I was pleasantly pleased when the Chef and Ryan bantered back and forth describing the menu and thoughts behind it. Both were very well informed about everything from the history of the winemakers to the reason of what they choose from the garden that morning. There were many courses and pairings. But I'll let the photos tell you about them. I want to focus more about the interactions of the staff and how we felt leaving the place. Unfortunately I'm not a white wine drinker and the sommelier (TJ) was able to switch us to red wine pairing. Throughout the entire night we were waited on with smiles and genuine feelings. I have been a server for many years and this was completely next level service. The table was personalized for us as well. At the end of the evening, I wasn't full yet and the Chef ended up making three more dishes that weren't even on the menu. To my amazement he wasn't mad at all. He felt like it was a challenge and told me he could stay as long as we wanted to. That comment let alone told me everything about this place. 100% dedicated to making sure people left full and happy. By the end of the night one of Sous and I were talking about bourbons and whiskeys. TJ took me upstairs to the Sous personal whiskey collection right next to the upstairs library. I tried three different types of amazing bourbons and went downstairs to thank him again personally. My wife grab our bags and we were thanked left and right before leaving. Took our Uber to our hotel. When we got in our room I realized that the Chef or someone from the kitchen gave us a tall mason jar of Smoked Salmon broth! Which was one of my absolute favorite things during the night. To wrap this up, at first I wasn't expecting much and a little nervous spending the money that we spent. By the end of the night my wife asked if I liked it and would I go back. Because of this evening and the way I was treated, the Herbfarm has an advocate for life on this place. We will definitely be back without a doubt. Ryan & Mandy

Perfection always The Herbfarm is such a hidden gem in Seattle, it really is so unique and special in every way. Every bite so creative and innovative, and of course beyond delicious. But on top of that, the chefs and owners Chris and Jack and their whole team make you feel like they have welcomed you into their home to share a very special moment with them. The hours go by so quick, too fast as I always leave wanting to repeat it all over again! Every special occasion we dream through the year , we always choose to spend it with the Herbfarm family, thank you for always making it extra perfect!

Fine dining can be a tough spot as with the high price tag comes high expectations, which is very reasonable. The issue often is that everyone has different expectations of what they want and just because it's expensive doesn't mean it will cater to what you might index on for a good time. For me i tend to lean towards weird and experimental so this was out of my wheelhouse. Despite that Herbfarm knocked it out or the park. The service was beyond perfection. They contacted me to understand my celiac preferences to ensure that I could use shared appliances as they don't have a gluten free kitchen. They baked my GF bread separately as well as fried things in fresh oil for me. The staff was friendly, loved chatting with us about the food and the wine. It felt more like being at a dinner with extended family. Our seating was personalized and after talking wine extensively they even brought my husband a special pour of Px. The food was incredible. Each dish was expertly plated and presented. My favorite was the salmon roe panna cotta, along with the soup and fish course. The first bite of fish was so good I wanted to rewind time to experience it again. I could go into detail on each dish but instead I'll say that while it may look "plain" it was all so well balanced and perfectly executed that I didn't need anything "fancy" to accommodate it. The rhubarb with puffed quinoa brought the evening to a perfect close. While very pricey considering it's already in a pricy realm it was worth it. I had such a great time and came away with great memories and that will stick with me.

For me, it costed $225.00 plus service and tax, which equals to $298.125 per person. My total was $596.25 for two people and they included non-alcoholic beverage pairings. I might be wrong but alcohol pairings could be more expensive.

We FINALLY made it over after over 10 years. My husband and I have traveled all over the world and dined at some of the best restaurants (from 3 star Michelin to delicious food carts--we don't care if there are accolades behind the food--we just know what well prepared, good food tastes like). We may be picky and more particular than most guests dining here. Whidbey has never been known for amazing food. It's a hard place to have a restaurant as it tends to rely heavily on tourism during the summer months, and it's hard to get locals to spend $$$ on the regular. We've seen many restaurants come and go. While I am thrilled this place is still surviving and thriving, it didn't quite live up to all the high praise I've seen. Don't get me wrong, the food is tasty, but I wouldn't say it was something that would leave a memory. Most of the dishes seemed like there needed some work to be done, or some quality control. The salad we received was heavily dominated by the cheese, and you couldn't taste any of the fresh vegetables. My "surprise" course had Guanciale which both my husband and I looked at each other at the same time and said "this tastes like it was rendered in old bacon fat." My husband also received 6 pieces of gnocchi, while I only had 2. The main course was cooked technically well, but it was off balance in the elements they provided. Again, not a big deal--but some tinkering and adjusting of amount of the components on the dish would have benefited them. My husbands cheese dish came without one of the components--but it was minor and not a big deal. It was just another example of how extra time may be needed with the dishes. The gentleman sitting next to me had told the other guests that "this was the best meal he has ever had," and thats when my husband and I realized that perhaps we went into this with too high of expectations compared to those who may dine here. By no meals was it a bad meal, it just was not at the level that some of the other reviewers here have felt. Again, that may just because we have eaten out at so many wonderful places around the world, that perhaps we are a bit jaded. We came for the Thursday local dinner, and when we left, we were a bit relieved we weren't doing the longer and more expensive weekend menu, given our experience, as we don't think we would have left feeling like we got our money's worth. If you're traveling through, and come on a Thursday--I think it's a great option. Would I spend $165-$180 a person on their main menu--that would be a no from me. It's a fun experience dining at a communal table--but it made having one on one conversation with my husband a bit tricky and we felt the need to have to engage with others when we were really wanting to turn off for the day (my husband and I are both Clinical Psychologists and spend the days listing to others The staff were all amazing and very friendly and accommodating. 5 stars for them! I really wanted to be wowed and to have a place my husband and I could escape to while visiting family as its just down the road from them--but unfortunately I don't know if we would return.

I had the Basil Martini, which was fantastic, herbaceous, refreshing, and easy to sip. For dinner, I ordered the Duck Confit, my favorite dish on the menu. It was beautifully presented, tender, and full of flavor. My husband had the Pan-Seared Scallops with polenta cakes and lobster-truffle beurre blanc, and he said they were delicious. The atmosphere added to the experience. I liked the artwork, and the music hit all the right notes. We were greeted and seated right away, and the service stayed attentive throughout the evening. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality and presentation make it worth it. This is my favorite restaurant in Federal Way and always feels special every time we visit.

I unfortunately feel obligated to write a bad review. If you don't want to read to the end, the…read moreshort vers = I came here to celebrate my 40th bday, and we paid premium prices for a frankly awful meal that left my bf with food poisoning. The more detailed vers: I found this place on Yelp, but had never visited before. I was SO excited by the glowing recommendations, so my bf and I decided to choose it to make my 40th bday dinner special. - First clue something was off was the place was dead. We were the SOLE patrons there on a Sunday night! - My mandarin basil mocktail was quite literally a glass of grapefruit juice with a single basil leaf on top. - We ordered crispy brussel sprouts as an appetizer; not only were they not crispy but they were near raw? Tough, undercooked brussel sprouts lol what - My main was paella, it was...fine...not terrible but they were super stingy with the seafood, there were only 2 meager chunks of chicken, 3 tiny scallops and like 3 shrimp in the entire dish. Keep in mind these plates were fine dining prices; the ingredients here likely cost dollars, at best - Bf's steak was overcooked It was bad enough where I politely said something to the waitress which I NEVER do and she apologized and said their lead chef called in sick so all they had was a chef in training. Anyway that was all fine, we laughed it off at the time aa bad luck. But yesterday my bf's stomach was upset the whole day, and that my friends was the final straw to push me to write this review. To the restaurant owners: it's one thing to have a mediocre dinner, who cares; but we paid high prices to be served crummy food, have a special night be disappointing and then to get sick afterward? That's not alright. I will say, the service was great and the staff very polite so it pains me to write this but it felt necessary.
