This review is strictly for the café, where great sandwiches are made, not the bar or lousy excuse for a nightclub. I have found the sandwiches here to be consistently good, and friends too have enjoyed the recommendation over the years. I especially like the potato salad as a side choice, just like mom made, simply delicious, nothing fancy or pretentious. Until that short-lived Mazz at the Central Plaza closed, the Cuban sandwich here was runner-up. Now they are the defacto champ, and the panini-style grilled presentation is perfect. Pulled pork meets cheese, pickles and mustard. Still working my way around the menu, but BBQ beef is good, as are the custom built choices. I can't comment on the soups, but I am sure they are worth trying. Taco Tuesday is worth checking out. At $1 a choice of carnitas or pollo filling is outstanding! I preferred the moist and flavorful carnitas to the chicken, and the fresh salsa was very good as well. I give one star because the employee was friendly. I walked downstairs and inside, and immediately my feet were sticking to the floor. Ew. There were two people at the bar, sort of a sign. They used to have dinner plates, sandwiches, etc. There are about five appetizers to choose from, and various beers. It's a shame it isn't the way it used to be. Won't be back. I have now been here a couple times and I don't really have any complaints. They have a really cool set up and I love how you have to walk downstairs into this secret "hideaway."I love the trees and decorations. It is a very casual and chill environment. Last time I came here with my husband and a friend and I ordered a light citrus beer and a grilled cheese. It was decent. Nothing to complain about. It was very reasonably priced. The staff was pretty nice. I am remembering that it could have been a little cleaner, but it is after all, a bar so my expectations are not too high. Overall, my experiences here have been good. I've worked in the service industry for a long time and this place is pretty terrible. My first experience was okay. My second experience...it informed me that I should never return. There was an open mic night when I went tonight. Definitely cool, if the performing act hadn't told me when I was laughing and commenting on her jokes to "sign up next time." No. Not cool. I didn't think that offending your audience was a good idea. Then, I was aggrieved by a host because my laugh was too loud. I am hearing impaired and this made me never wish to return. I was so embarrassed by this experience that there is no way I'd dream of returning. I thought that if I rose a concern, management might care. Instead, they I waited so long for a manager that o had to finally leave. People have lives. I would NEVER ever recommend this place. Open seating fine, The girl at the register has an attitude. I asked for an opinion and was worthless. order a variety of appetizers. I got Fried pickles, wings, spicy green beans. and for a sandwich I picked up a pastrami. since the girl upfront was useless to assist me on what was good there. let's start with once I sat down the chairs are all mixed up on height to sit. i had a party of three and it was difficult to find three matching chairs. I would have assumed that appetizers would come out first but no my sandwich did so that sat cold till the appetizers came put so i wouldn't be as rude to as eat in front of my guests. Pastrami has no meat and the bread was chewy gummy like. no flavor. the spicy grean beans I do recommend and the wings. not the pickle fries. very small all batter, also no flavor. my guest shared a BLT also lacking flavor and substance. Terrible bar, I would not recommend to my worst enemy. I came here for the Office bar crawl with some good friends (all well over the age of 21) and after waiting at least 30+ minutes to order my drinks and paying i was approached rudely by someone who claimed to be the manager. He flashed his flash light in my face repeatedly and asked for my groups IDs. He took my ID and claimed he needed to take it to the card scanner. After waiting another 10 minutes he came and claimed that my id was fake (I guess people are making fake CM1s now???) and said that my group had to leave with no other option even though we had just paid for drinks and were not finished. He then proceeded to spill the drinks on my group (which was 90% women) and roughly escorted us out. I would not recommend this place to anyone, I have never had a problem at any bar before. There are plenty of much better places than this to attend rather than this. Literally ANYWHERE other than this place. Do not give this business the time of day. read more

Amazing!!! Ideal hangout for a nice bite to eat with friends!!! They even have a Vegetarian Garden Burger!! After living in the area all my life and trying almost every veggie option in downtown I can honestly say its one of my favorites!! I went here with friends this summer and it was so nice!! We went on a Wednesday so not much was going on but it was overall really cool and cozy!! The people working looked to be a bit tired but it wasn't excessive and we all have our days so it didn't bother me at all! I also went last year around Christmas when they were selling Hot Chocolate and even though it was your basic chocolate mix it still hit the spot and was really nice of them to do that for everyone given it was so busy!!! I'm not over the age of 18 but I can honestly say if your out and about with friends and are willing to pay a bit more for REALLY good food I 100% recommend!!!! read more

I usually come out on the weekends with my friends but tonight my cousin and I decided just to go out and chill. My first thought was Hideaway because I've always enjoyed myself here. I'm so glad I decided to stop in. Adrian is AMAZING ! I'm very indecisive and never know what to get to drink when I go out. I told him to surprise me and he definitely did not disappoint. Stopped in for a quick bite between conference functions across the street. The place being nearly empty at 6pm should have been a clue. My wife and I sat at the bar and ordered a margarita, a burger and three of their spiciest wings. We waited for 15 minutes as she sipped a watery and nondescript drink before we asked for the tab. 20 minutes later, our food is still not out. The server has been in the kitchen three times asking about our order, telling us each time, "it's on the way." From my stool at the bar I watched kitchen staff walk around the lobby on the phone, duck into the restroom a couple times, and do anything but prep an order. My wife had to return to the conference while I had to wait for the server to figure out how to issue a refund for food that still wasn't ready more than half an hour later. 0/10 - Waste of a decent space along a beautiful street. So darn delicious it hurts. It's hidden, tucked away in an antique store unless you enter from the side street where you see the storefront for Hideaway Cafe. The decor and set up of the place is very odd with no apparent common theme. Nonetheless, it is all very cool, giving you vibes of pirates, forests, and enchanted non-Riverside feels. The turkey sandwich is simple and clean. I would likely not order it again because I COULD make it at home, but the 4-cheese grilled sandwich, even if I could make it at home, is worth getting. The sandwiches come with a side, and the portion of fries is perfect to eat with a sandwich. I also tried the bread pudding. Although it wasn't the best I've had, I enjoyed it very much. It wasn't made to be a Southern - type bread pudding but rather, an Americanized cranberry version. I would definitely order it again if someone shared it with me because it's quite hearty! I had previously rated this place 3 stars, but after my experience on Saturday I wish I could give this place negative points. The zipper on my shorts broke and the women's restroom was full so I went into the men's, after knocking and insuring it was empty, to try to safety pin as best as I could. Without any warning, the security guards peeked over the stall (saw me in my underwear) and rammed the door until it opened. They yelled and told me I had to leave. I put on my so broken shorts, which exposed a lot of my panties, and exited as told. Then the told me I was banned and had to leave the bar. I had never been so disrespected in my life. Tried to reason with them and explain the situation, but they treated me like shit and wouldn't tell me who the manager was. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. My friends and I were staying a hotel nearby for a music festival, and decided to check out the area for something to do while the other half of our friends were at the first day of the music festival. Everywhere else seemed too fancy for us since we were just in super casual clothes, did not pack clothes for bar hopping, so we decided to check this place out since it seemed accepting of our attire. It was the stairs leading down to a bar/lounge which caught our eye. Walked down the stairs and I immediately loved the look of this place! The string lights, trees, decorations. It felt like we were at tucked away, secret forest, hence, hideaway! Mind blown. The DJs were reaaaally good. Played all types of throwbacks, edm, & hip hop with cool lighting effects and sometimes the music video playing on the wall. We joked that we were at a rave, like they were that good. Songs all flowed/transitioned really well. Except no one was dancing. We were there from 9:30-11ish, so maybe later on in the night people were dancing. More showed up as we were leaving, and the crowd was much older or we just have that young Asian look lol. This is on a Saturday night by the way. Downside is they don't have hard alcohol. Learned that from trying to ordered a Jameson and Gingerale. Wine, beer, spirits only. They have these cool vodka Jell-O shots in a syringe though! read more

My fiancé and I were interested when we saw this place because of it's location so we walked down the stairs and noticed that there were only about 5 people inside. There was a band playing soft music and that was pretty cool but we were stuck on where to order. We found the ordering desk but there wasn't anyone there to take our order. We looked at where the bar was and the bartender was chatting and being friendly to the 5 or so people there so I don't think he noticed us. Then I noticed that one the 5 people walked behind the bar and went into the kitchen, so I thought she was getting ready to come around and take our order. About 3 minutes passed and we made eye contact through the kitchen and I hoped that she would finally come. Nothing. My fiancé said he was gonna use the restroom and come back. When he came back after another 2 minutes of waiting, the woman didn't come back to the front, we still haven't been asked if we needed help, or if we had any questions. So I felt that we were intentionally being ignored. So we left. Aside from that one eye contact, there was no interaction whatsoever on the employees' part. I kept looking over towards the bartender, I waived my hand, and asked out loud if they were closing soon, and we felt invisible and muted by the staff. I don't think i'll come back because if this experience. Maybe management should train better on customer service or at the very least, customer acknowledgment. read more

This place is amazing when packed. I usually come here for the Tuesday open mics with Tracy Kaos and sometimes when I come on a weekend I find Computerluv's set to be lit. The food here is good but usual. They make awesome mozzarella sticks and hot wings and I can't forget about their sandwiches and burgers but much of it isn't special. What you will be coming for is the drink specials. Their drinks are always cheap and their more flashy cocktails are a better deal than most places. It's the drinks I come here for because well... I'm poor and other prices are too pricy. Come for the jello injectors, they're especially good. Come if you can on a busy night because if you come on a less busy night, you might have less of a good time. read more

I had such high hopes for this place. The food smelled so good and it looked like a cool place. I ordered a meatloaf sandwich, my husband got a pastrami sandwich and my son got chicken strips and mozzarella sticks. The meat in the meatloaf sandwich was so thin that I could only taste the bread, the fried onions and ketchup. Pastrami sandwich was good but also had very little meat. The chicken strips were really good. The mozzarella sticks were just like any other place. Its disappointing to pay so much for something and feeling like you got cheated.
