Had dinner with friend here tonight. Food was delicious and reasonable for this area. Plenty of parking. Ate the Honey fried chicken with kale and smashed potatoes. Plenty of food on the plate. OThers had the polenta entree and salmon entree which they also enjoyed. Use the Yelp check in to share the Cranberry bread pudding with ice cream and berries. Food was flawless, service was chaotic. Ordered country-fried steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, roasted chicken panini with Parmesan fries. All were superb, balanced, tasty, beautiful. Greens were crisp and perfect. Gravy was flavorful, not clumpy or greasy, eggs were perfect. Came Sunday around 1:15, chose to sit inside due to the 94F temp and still got seated well within the 25m estimate. Place was mostly full, not slammed. Got water and drinks immediately, then waited 45m for our food. Also waited with empty glasses for refills for at least 30m, wife asked for a cup of ice that never came. Our order was delivered correctly, but the table on our left had a problem with cheese in their omelet and on our right, the half sandwich they asked to have boxed was instead tossed in the trash. It became uncomfortably warm while we waited, and when someone asked, they were told that because people had been going in and out, the AC was just turned off, rather than attempt to keep the door closed. Tried this place for the first time for brunch today. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday morning. We were seated right away and our food was prepared quickly. Many good reviews, but I was not impressed. Went with two friends for dinner last week. Weather was nice so we sat on the patio. The entire patio is not level so the glasses continue to slide. We had the Brussel sprouts, fried chicken, Cobb salad and sea bass. My friend loved the sea bass and I think that was the only good dish on our table. Fried chicken has so much cinnamon spice to it. The Cobb has Gorgonzola cheese. They are overthinking the food and how to prepare it. Appears from reviews that the breakfast is good. The food is pretty good for sure. But if you look around at the setting and watch the staff-not very clean. Staff is ill trained at handling silverware and glasses. For one example, I have observed unwashed hands to setting the table and handling the silverware by the mouth piece and the glasses by the rims. The bathroom/hallway is just plain nasty and in need of paint and some serious cleaning. I have also witnessed hostess with unwashed hands doing the same. read more

Came here for brunch last Saturday. Service was good, but the food was stellar. I tried the Harvest Scramble (loaded with lots of vegetables, although a bit salty) and the others in my party tried the Morning Glory (a huge sandwich loaded with meat- bacon and ham) and the Waffle Sandwich. Deeeeelicious food. I've gone three different times and the food never disappointed me! I've had the breakfast burrito, the curry chicken wrap with sweet potato fries, and the honey fried chicken with kale and mashed potatoes. The curry chicken wrap is my favorite so far! They serve huuuuuge portions here, so you won't leave hungry! The service each time I've went was just okay though, nothing great but not horrible. I'm suspicious of these spectacular reviews. My partner and I have been on a fried chicken kick lately. Neighbors said that "this new place where the Italian place used to be across from Jack in the Box makes a decent fried chicken!" So, we decided to try it. Maybe it's because we ordered it to go - but really...if you don't want to, or cannot handle two orders to go, just say so. Friday evening. Six people in the restaurant at 6pm - so being too busy wasn't an excuse. Forty five minutes - or as they called it "15" minutes and forty bucks later, we were served two small containers containing about a 1/4 cup of "smashed potatoes" - which were exactly that - pasty, gloppy, smashed potatoes. I've had better at KFC. I personally don't care for Kale so they kindly substituted sauteed carrots and mushrooms, but forgot the mushrooms altogether, and the "sauteed" aspect was forgotten as well since the carrots would have been better dipped in ranch dressing at a buffet. Partner said his tablespoon of kale salad wasn't bad! Hated the smashed potatoes. Our containers also each displayed two chicken "tenders" - I actually really enjoyed what there was of them. Crunchy, tasty batter, and the chicken was moist. Very greasy, but I'll give a pass on that since they were to go. Partner was already PO'd at the portion size and (lack of) service, so he decided to hate the chicken too. And, as mentioned by other reviewers, trying to find the truffled honey touted on the menu is futile. So - only one star to order to go there! Maybe dine-in is a better option. I'll give them a try for brunch sometime and hopefully be able to amend what was a really disappointing experience. Lafayette is filled with great restaurants. Loved this place! Brunched here on Sunday around 11. Even though we had to wait (I expected this since I didn't make a reso) we did so with a mimosa which was nice. The food was well prepared. Loved the atmosphere and especially loved the patio seating. I was impressed by the staff -- they were attentive. The host was super sweet. OMG the waffle breakfast sandwich is life changing! Waitress also shared a tip which was to add a little Tabasco with the syrup! I know sounds crazy but the syrup brings out the sweet in the waffle and the Tabasco brings out the pepper in the chicken fried steak and the sausage gray. Mind blowing! We've been going to The Hideout since it first opened and have not been disappointed one bit. We discovered The Hideout after a wine tasting at the Wine Thieves which is directly across the street from The Hideout. Our first visit we were greeted by the owner - JB - a great guy. Everybody is exceptionally helpful and courteous. My wife is Gluten Free (not me - I love Gluten) but we've tried virtually every item on the dinner menu and have never been disappointed. I consistently recommend the Honey Fried Chicken, Blackened Salmon (GF), Seafood Stew (GF) and Grilled Lamb Chops (GF). All are outstanding , as are the salads and the Brussels Sprouts. The place is small but very quaint and the staff makes you feel at home. A real delight in Lafayette. read more

Let me first say this IS a cute little hideout in Lafayette. We went for brunch and sat outside. The inside has a nice feeling and cute decor. The outside might be a little better in the evening because there is a little bit of a fly/bee issue during the day. There was quite a wait (about 4Omins) Everything looked nice and was very tasty also, but there were some "red flags" that I noticed. I know being in Lafayette allows prices to be a little inflated, but usually the inflated price comes with an explanation for the prices like, maybe the produce & meat are from a local farm where they're grass-fed etc... But there isn't an explanation of where anything comes from. Not even the cup of $3.75 black coffee. There was Coffeemate small plastic creamers , a big 'old plastic bottle of Hunt's ketchup and disposable salt and pepper shakers on the table. These details say a lot to me. Went here with my parents thinking it was the old Italian place that used to occupy the building. Realized we were at a new restaurant only once we were looking at the menus! We usually love this place, but Sunday 12/11 was not good. We arrived at 11:45 and put our name in for 3 people. We were told it would be 45 min wait and they would text us. We walked around. No text but we came back after 30 min. Saw several empty tables. Same hostess said we could walk in. She didn't recognize us. Told her we had our name in. She checked and said we didn't. Asked her to look again, and she found it as canceled and said you canceled it. We said we had not, and she just stared. No apology or I'm sorry for confusion. This didn't make us feel very appreciated. The food was good, but the cheese in the omelette wasn't melted. It looks like their popularity has eroded their former quality. After the unwelcoming attitude of the hostess we won't rush back. Small things like that make a big difference. read more

It was a horrible experience for us at this place. Was here Saturday for brunch. We drove out of our way here because it had 4.5 stars with over 500 reviews and wanted to know what this place was all about. When we got there it took us a bit to find parking since the inside parking lot was full but we found one on the street. The hostess said it was about 30 minutes and that was about how long we waited. We were seated and our waiter came by and we asked for water to start off. She brought back two small green water glasses and one large clear glass. I noticed that none had ice in them, we like ice in our water but oh well some places don't put ice. But then I looked around and notice everyone else had ice in there water. Maybe we had to ask for it? Another group sat down next to us and I didn't recall hearing them ask for ice but they also got water with ice. Any how we went ahead and ordered. I had the waffle sandwich. My wife ordered the plate with eggs and bacon plate with other stuff in it, I forget what they called it. I asked my wife didn't she order soft scram? She said yes but it definitely overcooked. She ordered pancakes for our daughter and asked me if she should get one or three. I said I don't know how big are they? The waiter used her thumb and pointer fingers to show me the size, I'm like ok it's not that big so we ordered three. When it came they were humongous. It was easily a ten incher and thick. Nothing like our waiter showed it to be. There's no way she would think our skinny 4th grader could finish this and no way she would think they one was not enough. Any waiter would know that these were very large pancakes. I was getting a kind of bad vibe from our waiter from start to finish. After thinking about our whole experience, I've come to the conclusion that more than likely she was messing with us for some reason but I could be wrong. So during our meal I asked our waiter about our water having no ice, and whether we had to ask for ice. She says oh we don't usually do ice with our water. And asked if I wanted ice. I said no I prefer no ice and I just wondered if we had to ask because everyone else had ice. A few minutes later she comes and say oh, the small green cups we don't put ice since they are small, and because they ran out of the large cups. Ok? I thought you just said earlier that thats how you serve your ice? I asked then how come mine didn't come with ice? It's a large regular glass. she ignored that comment and I said it twice. I did notice my water had a flavor to it, like a light blackberry flavor to it or something, which made we wonder if the glass wasn't rinsed off enough or if their water was just flavored like that. At the end I wondered if the green glasses of water had the same flavor as mine. It did not. I poured some from the bottle at our table and it tasted normal. So it was only my glass that was flavored so I assumed mine was leftover from something and not washed well enough. Any how my waffle sandwich was blah. My wifes plate did not look good at all. Looked like some homemade stuff. My daughter ate one quarter of a pancake. I tried a piece and it tasted like pancakes I made at home from a box I buy from target. I was very disappointed and wondered how in the world this place could get 4.5 stars? They really try to make it something unique here but fall really short. At the end I still gave this waitress an 11 percent tip even though I she deserved zero. (no ice taking back her reasons why , not welcoming, made use order 3 pancakes, eggs did not come as we ordered, I don't know. I've been around for 40 years, and I've encountered many people who just don't like me for some odd reason from the first look, but I'm the nicest, fairest person you'll ever meet unless you're an ass but you have to earn it for me to be an ass to you. I surely did not do anything to deserve this kind of service. Maybe if she was a better waitress or gave out a friendlier vibe, our experience wouldn't have been so awful. To J.B. B: Obviously, you've been fuming over this for 3 weeks. To explain: First, I had reservations about going to The Hideout because I read some negative reviews on another forum that sounded pretty unbiased. One described it as "cafeteria food". Second, I have plenty of enthusiastic reviews of various restaurants. Third, we DID point out to our server that the brussels sprouts were raw and the bacon was badly burned. The waiter was very apologetic and wanted to take it off our bill, but we told him to leave it on the bill because we wanted to make sure that the restaurant knew that we don't want anything for free - we took the risk and were willing to pay for it. Then when my husband's steak came - a gross, sloppy, fatty piece of burned meat (in places) that was nearly raw in other places, we knew that this restaurant is a lost cause - it's hopeless. The person (the manager?) who took my husband's plate could clearly tell that my husband had eaten very little, but he didn't bother ask whether it was okay - it was obvious that it was horrible, just by looking at it. That is not the action of someone who wants to know how our experience was. That's why they didn't even offer us a dessert menu - they rushed us out, even though there weren't many people in the restaurant. II have been to some truly fantastic restaurants, but I don't expect a tiny place in Lafayette to be the French Laundry. However, I do expect competence, at least. There is absolutely no possible way that the chef at the Hideaway did not know he was serving messy, undercooked, burned food, and yet he let it go out. We took a picture - I'll see whether I can find it and post it. If he didn't know, he is definitely incompetent. So assuming the chef knew and let it go out anyway, the logical conclusion is that they don't care. How could that assumption be reversed? By a classy response. A sincere apology that we spent our hard earned money on food that was inedible. That's it. However, the final nail in the coffin was the owner's hostile and immature response. At least his daughter has some common sense - too bad he didn't take her advice. read more
