Tacos El Cino - A Must-Try for Adobada Vampiros…read more One of my favorite taco spots, hands down. I've tried a million places, but the adobada vampiros here keep me coming back. Think of it as a tostada sandwich with cheese on both sides, onions, cilantro, guacamole, and perfectly seasoned adobada meat. Unlike other spots where the tortilla is overcooked or turns chewy, here it's always crispy--adding a satisfying crunch to every bite. The salsa is a standout, too. There's a unique spice in it, maybe cumin, that I can't quite place, but it's delicious. They also offer a green salsa and a habanero salsa, which I'll have to try next time. The slightly sweet adobada pairs really well with the savory salsa, making every bite flavorful and balanced. I also tried the adobada keto taco--just in case I ever decide to do healthier Yelp reviews. It has all the same ingredients but swaps the tortilla for a cheese shell. Surprisingly, the shell held up well with all the toppings and had a great taste, just slightly less filling. If you're thinking about going keto but don't want to give up tacos, this is a solid option.

Those that were eating their food there was enjoying the outdoor dining. My son and I enjoyed socializing with a few locals, some were new to the area (where I was born and raised). You could say that, with flavor, sometimes less is more. The smaller size allowed the wrap to leverage the umami without needing rice or beans as much. Also, these are cheaper than most burritos I've had recently, so you're not really losing money. Some burritos in town are kinda....huge anyways, and I say that as someone who can eat three of these if I want to. A 3.7 average is somewhat low for Yelp, but I already had a co-worker rave about this place, and I am cursed to drive by it on my way home from work. And reviews are often the victim of what I would consider a form of volunteer bias. People with a 3 star experience simply aren't motivated to write reviews. I can't say this is as impressive as Chula Tacos, but there is something about the vibe that makes me want to give it a higher rating. There definitely seems to be locals that habitually come here for lunch or on their way home from work. That must count for something.

Taco El Gordo is hands down worth the hype. The line was…read moreover an hour long. While waiting, I overheard someone next to us say, "We only eat here, otherwise we go back to Mexico." That alone made me feel like the wait wasn't wasted. We tried a variety of tacos, and everything was solid. The spicy pork (which actually isn't that spicy) was super flavorful and easy to eat. I will highly recommend even if you don't handle spice well. The beef tongue was another standout, it is tender, rich, and really well done. Ordering can be a little confusing at first since you line up by meat and then pay separately, but once you figure it out, it's part of the experience. If you're in San Diego, this place is pretty much a must-try. I'd come back again just for these tacos.

How it works: you'll enter the business, grab a tray, go window to window collecting your choice of street style tacos. Once you're ready to eat, you'll purchase your final picks with the cashier. While this spot is affordable, it's not cheap. These tacos quickly add up and you could easily spend $20-30 a person depending on your hunger level. I tried a number of carne asada tacos, the cactus tacos, a tostada, quesadilla, and French fries. It's hard to choose a favorite since each item is so uniquely delicious.

Just be more patient and mindful that they're doing the best they can Food 5/5 -mixed(surtido) and cheek(cachete) tacos, meat is TENDER. I honestly can't taste the difference between the two, I just knew I wanted to keep eating them(even after eating 3). Sturdy tortillas so the tacos weren't falling apart as I was eating, I also really liked that each table had two squeeze bottles of salsa, so convenient -orden/order, if you come here, you have to order this soup with the head meat. It's the essence that sums up the restaurant, it's a little peppery with the sweetness from the diced onions and meaty goodness. It comes with about 4 tortillas and there's a lot of meat in the soup to be made into more tacos Ambiance 5/5 -restaurant was full of people eating food happily(obviously the food was delicious) and there was a guy that sang for donations and vendors that came through selling trinkets, just a mixing pot of life and happy place to eat
