A wonderful local offering in the small town of Orland. We decided to drive over from Chico to celebrate our weekly Wed-niversary - we got married on a Wednesday and we have a date on every Wednesday. Last night it was 4 years, 7 months, and 28 days. We always share this story with our server(s). We'd been there for lunch but this was our first dinner. First and most importantly, Hannah and Lucia were just wonderful. Friendly, professional and listened to all of our stories and shared a few of their own. For the most part, the meal was incredible. The Brussles Sprouts the best we've had. Big sprouts with feta, bacon,Hawiian honey crusted walnuts and a little spice. We'll never forget. My cocktail the Pomegrante Lemoncello Lemon Drop was luscious. Served straight-up in a martini glass sans ice. Thank you very much! I had the lettuce wraps for my entree (lettuce cups filled with sweet, spicy & tangy slaw, crushed won-ton strips, soy herb chicken breast) - again, the best - and shared one with my huband! Excellent portion, I brought two home. My husband had the Chicken Marsala. The mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and seasonal vegetable were wonderful. But the Chicken was lacking in flavor - no essence of the Marsala - we both agreed. I had also ordered some Hive-made pickles - they need more pickling spices and some crunch. One other small matter was that our table was off blance (the two-top by the sidedoor that looks out on the side street). We did let Hannah and Lucia know about all of these good and bads. Hope they shared the hiccups with management. We enjoy The Hive and Orland. The hiccups won't keep us from coming back.

We loved The Hive! My girlfriend lives in Redding and I'm in Dixon. We met up at The Hive in Orland for dinner. It was the first time for me and I fell in love with it! The ambience is adorable, yet upscale. We were approached by a hostess and when she found out it was our first time, she gave us a mini-tour and background explanation. She sat us at a table for 2 and we were able to chat comfortably. We ordered pretty quickly and then our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts to share and Mara got the Cobb Salad and I ordered the Steak Salad. The Brussels Sprouts was delicious. Perfectly sweet and a little spicy with a crunch! Both our salads were filling and tasty. The bread and honey butter were a great start to the meal. The entrance to the bathroom is outside, so keep that in mind in inclement weather. Overall, this was a super fun experience and we highly recommend it!!

This was my first time at The Hive. My friends & family have raved about it for at least a year. I met my son & GF for brunch & was not disappointed. We sat at the VERY large/long bar with THE most comfortable seats. My son had Gorgonzola burger & fries, GF had bacon-cheese burger & fries & I had really good chilaquiles! The only less than perfect was I ordered over medium eggs & I got well done eggs, which would have helped with the spice level. The chilaquiles were still great, I can't say that for other places I've had them. The bartender, Evan was our server, he was fun & great service. He made a great expresso martini as well. Highly recommend whether you're driving up or down I-5 for a meal. They were quick!

Had a wonderful brunch experience at The Hive Kitchen and Bar. We come to Orland yearly to camp at a nearby Buckhorn Campground and this was our first time dining here and will surely be coming back...Unique nice ambiance, great food and friendly staff especially our server for the day - Betty, you're the best! Another lovely meal in Orland. Tried brunch menu this time and enjoyed the rich stuffed French toast. The cream cheese filling was sweet and rich with that honey flavor. The brioche bread was the perfect compliment without feeling like it was just bread. Perfect crispness on the bacon too. Salty to set off the sweet syrup. My server, Betty, was super friendly too.

Great place to stop on a road trip! Unique and yummy. Worth the price in my opinion. I had the chilaquiles special, which was really flavorful and well done. It had meat cooked along with the chips and the sauce was really rich. My husband had the Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was very good. Again, very good quality ingredients. My kids had the chocolate chip pancakes and grilled cheese. I like that breakfast was still available for lunch. The pancakes were really delicious, I did help him finish those pancakes. They had a cute gift shop area with some different honey products but the highlight for my family was the bee observatory. That was so cool! And my kids were mesmerized. There were other parts to the restaurant we didn't try, including a café, a case of pastries. If I was local, this should be a regular spot for me. Staff were all very personable and attentive, and I was greeted by a number of people. The building doesn't look like much from the road, it's a bit hidden, but the interior and exterior of it were all recently updated and very modern. Will keep the Hive in mind for any road trips that bring us through this area. Very cute touch to get Honeysticks when we got the bill. Thank you!

Every time I've gone to Hive, I've had nothing but I still are experience anytime my friends or family are in town. We go here for Sunday morning brunch. I've had flowers delivered. I purchased, honey. I've got cupcakes from the bakery and picked up Epic food whenever I did not feel like cooking. The staff are super friendly. The ambience is upbeat and chic, menu has high-quality ingredients and we love their champagne. Flights don't forget to look for local bands in special evenings when the wine is discounted or you can listen to live music we need more places like this in town.

Delicious 11th Anniversary Dinner! The new fall menu was delicious. We had three starters and two entrées. We LOVED the Brussel Sprouts! Perfectly balanced and cooked. We've been to so many places where they get the brussels sprout wrong . The food looked artistic and plated well. The only negative I would say is the honey walnut shrimp sauce was a little bit too sweet. I personally didn't want to finish the quinoa on the bottom due to the sweetness. The fall flatbread is a very shareable starter. Our server was attentive. It was a busy night and he was hustling. I couldn't decide on what kind of wine I wanted. He was so kind and brought me the choice I thought I wanted and another one to sample. Love the atmosphere. It wasn't too loud. The bee theme is tastefully done . Loved the hive style lighting. We dessert home! Can't wait to take bite of the cheesecake & trifle we got

Their food is pretty whatever but it's a super cool shop in general lol They have a chocolatier, bakery, souvenir shop (with honey, tshirts, etc) with their restaurant. There was a panel with bees inside too, which was interesting to see while waiting for food. They did a fantastic job with the interior design as well, very modern and bee themed Servers were nice and there was plenty of street parking.

This rating is based on two recent experiences. The first was a catering order I placed over the phone for delivery to a residential address. I think (Mindy) was her name and she was very easy to coordinate with, gave suggestions, pricing, and the delivery was right on time. I heard lots of great things about the food but I couldn't try it as I am allergic (ordered wings, garlic bread, potato salad). The 2nd was an in-person visit. Pros were that the server was very friendly, the place was cute and large, nice portions and good variety. The actual service was extremely slow. We had a reservation for 5 and were seated promptly. It took 45 mins for our food to arrive and they had put cheese in my omelette when I asked for no cheese. Took another 25 mins to get a new omelette. Took another 15 mins to get 2 pieces of dessert for the kids. We were comped half of my omelette price but really? At that point just give it free. Food itself was good. So a solid 3.5 star experience. One of the better places in town though I'm sure.

It is my daughter's birthday and this was her choice to have her first legal drink. This is the crown jewel of Orland, what a beautiful spot. It has a spot where they sell honey, a coffee bar, restaurant and well stocked bar too. The staff is super knowledgeable and very professional, they really make sure you are having a good time. There are several separate venues where you can have large or small gatherings, it is a one stop shop for fun. You can see live bees or their bee display too that is super cool and well worth the visit. The food was tremendous, artsy and healthy with great portion size. I got a bite of everything and was super impressed. I chose the fried chicken and it. This is one place you all need to try.

My boyfriend and I were hungry and wanted to stop and to get breakfast after a long 7 hours drive and we luckily found this amazing breakfast spot !!! Food was Good , my boyfriend got the chilaquiles 7/10 Mexican mocha 10/10 . I got the seasonal French toast 9/10 The service was good , Chelia was an amazing server, she helped us alot and was very sweet .

The Hive is a quant and remarkable restaurant! The service was spectacular and the food needs to be rated above a 5 . We had an omelet and the french toast! Wow! Ammmmmazzzzing! Best french toast I have ever tasted. The gift shop has many unique gifts, and there is an actual bee hive INSIDE the restaurant. Highhhhhly recommend! read more

Wow!! We travel on the road Fulltime, and for this hidden gem. Staff is beyond welcoming and helpful, such a warm friendly environment. The food is outstanding, we just did the deli side. Turkey pesto egg croissant, The honeybee açaí bowl and a scoop of honeycomb ice cream affaggoto aka shot of espresso. Outstanding and delicious. A must stop!! read more

Went to Sunday brunch, a lot of empty tables but still had to wait 30 mins for a table. Almost 2 hrs later we finally got our food. Food was average, pricey. Had to keep moving around the table because of sun coming through the skylight. So, so service. Waitress seemed a little scattered. read more

Things are always changing (in great ways) at The Hive. What started as my favorite place to stop for coffee and a sweet treat has become so much more. They have expanded the menu in the cafe, added a BAR, and now offer small plates as well! The pulled pork on homemade biscuits is delicious. I had that with a handcrafted cocktail called the Mango Tango. A spicy little drink that paired perfectly. More changes are in the works for this great little spot. Full kitchen is being built, outdoor covered patio area is open. And live music on the weekends. They are truly busy bees! read more

The Hive Cafe was an unexpected find on a day trip to nearby Black Butte Lake. The interior is rustic and very nice. The owners obviously put a lot of effort into the construction. The food was excellent. The only drawbacks were parking (on street and a very uneven gravel lot) and front of the house organization (they seemed a bit disorganized. Tables not cleared quickly, no hostess at the front). They have a full bar, and lots of interesting cocktails on the menu, although we did not partake on this visit. Be sure to check out the walk up bakery counter and the bee hive in the waiting area. We will return. read more

Yum!! Honey is so good! Very good latte!! With honey of course! Love the bees and cute honey items and honey in jars to buy along with honey tasting! Food menu looks great! Will definitely be back! New to town and excited to find some good coffee and local honey! Beehive inside is cool! Lots of places to sit inside and outside covered patio area as well. Flower shop next door look nice too but didn't get to go in. read more

We had driven by the Hive a few times and finally decided to drive out and try them for lunch. The layout of the restaurant and gift shop were very nice and inviting. We ordered cocktails from the menu-absolutely delicious and refreshing. The appetizer we ordered were the pickle fries, these were hands down the most unique and amazing appetizer ever(not the fried pickles you usually get) I ordered a Gorgonzola burger and it was SO GOOD my wife had the Pastrami sandwich excellent as well! We highly recommend this as a good place if heading north or south on Hwy 5 or if your like us, make the drive to check them out. I almost forgot the service, everyone was really nice and even gave us some samples of honey and their ICE CREAM after our lunch This place is Fantastic and we will definitely be hitting them up again and again. read more

Apparently, this place is all the rage for locals. I was a visiting a friend who lives there. We waited 15 minutes for a table when plenty open tables were visible. I get that maybe they didn't have the staff to accommodate all the tables. But when we were finally seated, we waited at least 15 minutes before we were approached for our order. At that time, we each ordered a mimosa. 20-30 minutes later, we still hadn't received our drinks. I can understand when a popular place is busy, but we watched people who came in after us order and receive their food while we waited. A place can be cute and quaint, but when you sit down and watch other parties arrive after you and begin eating their breakfast before you even get your drinks... well, we just got up and left. I guess, in Orland, upscale places don't have a lot of competition, and The Hive can afford to treat their guests that way. Their clientele doesn't have a whole lot of other options. But earning business by default doesn't make a great restaurant. Fortunately for me, I live in a city with many options, and I can get ambience and good food without sacrificing service. read more

Came here when visiting our friends in Corning! I got the lobster quiche was really yummy!! Perfect serving size and lots of flavor! My husband had the pork belly benedicts which he looked but felt the potatoes were just ok. I also ordered an iced coffee which they only had cold brew coffee in a can which was a bummer but overall would be back! read more

Wow is all I can say...$16 for a soft pretzel with beer cheese, $19 for a French dip sandwich that was underwhelming, and we literally watched our food sit in the window for more than 10 minutes and our waitress "Betty" walk by it more than 7 times before bringing it to us.... read more

The food was fancy and we didn't pay that much for our meals. The burger that my boyfriend got was the best burger we have both ever tasted. The meat was soft like the most amazing meatloaf you've ever had in your life put in to a burger. My grilled cheese was simple but exactly what I was hoping for. They serve cucumber lemon water and it made me so happy! Lol. The vinaigrette on the salad was the best salad dressing I've ever had. It was AMAZING. The vibes of the place are great. Wonderfully friendly staff. Clean. Beautiful, well lit place. I felt like I was sitting at a fancy place on the coast and not in little Orland. It felt like a vacation. We were very pleased with every aspect of our experience and wouldn't change a thing. read more

WOW! An update to my post, after reading my review the owner was concerned and did not make excuses, She is going to address the concerns and obviously is a stand up person. I was NOT after a refund of any kind and we could have sent back our meals but we don't for various reasons at any restaurant. They deserve another visit for dinner that's for sure,. An absolute one-of-a-kind, The Hive is a must-stop, even for the busiest of bees! The building and its decor are stunning. Rustic industrial with an order counter and shop, nook with beautiful lighting and a front row seat to the live bee hive, a bar/entertaining area with popcorn machine, open dining area and a beautiful spiraling staircase. No Starbucks comes with such an inspiring atmosphere as this. We had our pick of tables - all with a carafe of iced cucumber water. The special of the day was an absolutely delicious pulled pork torta. The pork was tasty, the pickled pieces and peppers gave it the perfect tasty kick without making you sweat. The BREAD was the best part - perfectly toasted to give just a little crunch. I was medium hungry and the sandwich with its accompanying yummy champagne salad and pickle were the perfect amount for me. Their little store has exquisite style. I loved sampling the California, Montana and Hawaiian honeys. I never knew honeys could each taste so different! We bought a beautiful bottle of the Hawaiian honey that was the perfect amount of sweetness for us. I wish we lived in town. We found The Hive just driving by on 99W. I would absolutely spend my mornings and afternoons here working amongst the bees! read more

Excellent brunch/lunch place that also sells its own honey! I got the eggs benedict with pork belly which was really good. The hollandaise sauce was excellent. I also stole some bites of the lobster quiche and pancake which were also delish. The outdoor patio seating is nice and spaced out and service was great. I don't know if it's the live bee hive in the foyer, but there is a happy buzz about the place. It's a festive restaurant trimmed with garland and a holiday tree. The music was primarily late 50's classics. Our breakfast was scrumptious. Coffee was good for most palates. There is an assortment off gluten and gluten free baked treats. We bought a couple cookies to go; they were yummy as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. We would come back! read more

Great food and lots of options and a nice atmosphere. Lots of vegan options as well. I loved the modern design of the restaurant and a really nice bar. The only thing this bar was lacking was tv but that's not that big of a deal. Will definitely try this place again. read more

I have been a fan of the Hive since the beginning. Starting with the coffee shop, when they expanded to lunch, and when they started serving dinner. I was excited that they were starting to serve their own home made icecream. The icecream isn't bad. There are two other issues. #1 According to the owners' own educational efforts through their separate bee/honey business, pollution is a big issue for bees. Yet they are using plastic ware to serve the icecream and don't have any recycling for the plastic. I have asked in multiple occasions. #2. The scoop that is served is considerably smaller than the cup in which it is served. Maybe the actual scoop size is decent/completive (I don't think so) but the optics are pretty bad. Hopefully they can resolve the recycling issue. It seems pretty basic but so far no efforts made. If they do, I will definitely be back. If not, I will find somewhere else to get my coffee and icecream. read more

Great little restaurant that's chic and hip with a hint of southern jazz joint. Service was absolutely excellent! Try their Korean Crazy fries and Buffalo cauliflower for amazing appetizers. We had the traditional burger, and grilled cheese panini with tomato bisque soup. Burger & panini were nothing special, a bit dry and basic. Soup was terrific! Not sure how to write this review but here goes! We were on our way home from Sacramento from a very long weekend out in the hot scorching sun of baseball fields and decided to stop in a for dinner. We did not have a reservation but we're seated pretty quickly. The menu was pretty limiting and they were out of some of the food. The metal chairs were so uncomfortable and we were seated next to a large loud birthday party. We were exhausted, parched and that was kind of the icing on the cake. Our waitstaff was slow and barely came to check on us and fill our water. A different friend of mine says the brunch is great and I need to go and give it another shot! I most likely will as I believe everyone needs a second chance! read more
