This place is fine if you don't have to do anything but buy something and ring yourself out or need something minor from someone, but if you need anything significant that takes any sort of effort, you might as well just leave and go somewhere else. My gut reaction is that their store leadership is terrible, but the rest of the Home Depots in the Richmond area are just as bad (and some are worse). I've come in here looking for one of the last remaining items in the store several times only to walk out empty-handed because they can't find their own products. Once they get below 5 of anything remaining in the store, they won't have a clue where to find any of them, so you might as well just go to Lowe's or to Ace Hardware. When this happened again recently, I went to Ace Hardware and found what I was looking for with no issues (ironically only two of what I was looking for in that store, and it wasn't a problem at all). And let me tell you, expecting them to deliver large orders is about as hopeless as it gets because they will mess it up, lose it, or damage whatever it is. I've had no less than four deliveries over the past 5 years that have arrived late, not arrived and had to reorder, and/or has arrived damaged. It's clear that their delivery guys just don't care enough to do their job properly. I would say they don't get paid enough to care, but for the results they are providing, they're getting paid way too too much. One moderately large order last year was delivered to a random home 10 miles away for some reason, and that homeowner was angry because they just dropped it and blocked off the driveway (that's what I call two birds with one stone). When I finally got my order, half of the lumber was damaged, and I received NONE of my 10-sheet plywood purchase. They pinned it on the Intown store (probably likely, but it was still purchased through this store), and they transferred me to them. They found my plywood, but it was only half of the order and couldn't find the rest. One of the sheets I did get was damaged, so here we go again. At some point while trying to clear up the issue, the store rep told that the issue was my mistake because I didn't actually order all of the items correctly (despite doing it in the store, and despite me looking at a printed copy of my invoice with the correct items... that apparently she couldn't find). She told me I had to place another order that wouldn't arrive for another two weeks. I placed the order and reminded her that I wasn't happy to AGAIN have to deal with another of their mistakes. In doing so I said "It's complete bulls - - t that y'all can't get your stuff together and I always have to jump through hoops to make it right." She cancelled my order and said she didn't have to fill my order because I used vulgarities, and she hung up on me. I've had whole-order deliveries cancelled without notifying me too. They'll just cancel an order, make no effort to call, and then they say they called and left a voicemail (despite that being 100% "fabricated truth"). I ordered a dog kennel a few years back, and it never made it to me. Over a month after ordering the item, I had to disprove blatant lies the store told an online rep, and once he realized I was telling the truth, he gave me a full refund. A month after that, a 300 lb box 6ft by 3ft was blocking my driveway. Inside the mangled box was the destroyed dog kennel that "never existed." Today they delivered a make-up order of one of their mysteriously-cancelled deliveries (the small items were all delivered last week, but the large items, the six 10-ft-long items I paid $80 to have delivered, they were cancelled, and I had to place another order for those), and the guy today never made any attempt to come down my driveway to deliver the items (10-ft metal drip edge/flashing). He simply propped the item up on my address sign beside the road and left. I have a 500 ft driveway that is plenty wide enough for large trucks (we have them here all the time), and we have a very large turn-around area for trucks by our house, but sometimes the driver will walk down the driveway to check it out. Not this guy today! It was drizzling, so I watched him pull the flashing out of the truck (and bend it all to hell because he didn't know how to lift it), and just leave it beside the road. I was about to purchase 3 gal of decking material. I asked the paint associate to put them in the shaker for me while I picked out a brush. I picked out my brush in 2 min. The brush section is 10 ft away from the shaker. I watched him move the cans across the counter and he said they were ready. I said it's only been 2 min and he couldn't have shaken them. He said it only take 30 seconds to shake. Lie. I watched him but figured I'd just get a managers opinion. He followed me to customer service and stared at me in an intimidation move. So I left. We got a workout walking through this huge hardware store! Hubby and I went in for a couple of miscellaneous items and some fall mums, we left feeling like we went to the gym! Talk about killing two birds with one stone...(what an eerie idiom). The store was well stocked, pretty organized but I found the some of the staff wasn't super helpful. Looking high and low for some stove drip pans, we finally found them way in the back, tucked away on a obscure rack. The garden department was much easier to navigate. We loaded up on some fall foliage, mums and violets. The check out lady there was friendly and conversational! The seasonal autumn displays were gourd-geous and holiday items were out in full force! This Short Pump location is bigger and busier than the HD in our neighborhood, but we were running errands in the area so it was convenient. Not sure I'd go out of my way to come back here, due to the congestion but Home Depot stands on its own for construction, contractors and home improvement buffs! Dog friendly store, we ran into our son, daughter in law and their cute Goldendoodle!! They bought a nice lawn mower for a fair price! Great time to get a grill on sale too! read more

Ok, as a new homeowner/quarantiner/plant novice, I have been to Home Depot more over this summer than I have in my entire life. So far, I believe I prefer this location over the one near Libby only because it's centrally located to other places I need to go. I can park and hit up HD, Target, Best Buy, World Market, and Kohls (yes, Kohls. They have a good selection of toddler clothes, okay!). I do really like how they've expanded their website to carry more than just hardware type of My one gripe with HD? Their pickup service is extremely slow. I cannot with them. I'm only giving them one star because you can't give zero stars. The staff is very unhelpful. I purchased an LG refrigerator (that's another story) 3 years ago and purchased the extended warranty. The refrigerator stopped working and when I contacted Home Depot they gave me the runaround. Five days later I'm still without a refrigerator. Have always had good enough experiences at Home Depot back in NY. Employees aren't always the fastest, sometimes not the most helpful, but I either find what I need or I don't. I can't speak to that here at the Glen Allen, as I wanted to browse the gardening section of the store. I keep talking about possible plants, and my mom always nags me on the phone to check out their plants. So, when I was in the area, I did. Not really impressed with the selection, tbh. Some of the plants looked beaten up, others had bugs buzzing around them (and some leaves looked eaten). The pots were also pretty lackluster. Attention Contractors: Big deliveries are FUBAR. If you have a delivery of 5 items, 3 will show up on 2 different trucks at different times. The remaining 2 items wont be delivered at all. It will be then your job to call multiple people to get the final delivery. So that can take up to a week after you send your crews home and the job schedule is shot. This has happened to me multiple times because i really like home depot products. Not good for serious contractors that must have deliveries correct. Home Depot also makes you call multiple stores to get your issue fixed because deliveries come from multiple stores where no one is accountable and internal finger pointing does not fix your problem. The burden of a correct dlivery is the customer's problem to fix. read more

I ordered two lock sets online from the Glen Allen Home Depot. They called me the next day stating that they didn't have them in stock (even though the online ordering process says they do have them in stock). Obviously they don't maintain correct inventory and/or update the computer. The associate on the phone instructed me to come in and they would do a "store to store" transfer (as they had the same lock sets at the Ashland store). I drove to the Glen Allen Home Depot. I spoke to the manager and requested a "store to store" transfer for the lock sets and she laughed and said "we don't do that." Obviously, managers and other employees don't maintain inventory, don't update the online stock, are incompetent and unfamiliar with store policies and procedures. Once again, I regret my decision to go to HD. After a bad experience years ago, Lowe's was my store of choice. But, given some appliance sales, decided to give it another chance. It appeared that they didn't have basic installation equipment and told me that I would have to figure out some other time that they could come back. Forget it. So figured I would give them a chance to repair the situation. Took another partial day off work. They showed up, brought in the new dishwasher, unloaded it...said, "sorry this one's damaged. you will have to schedule another appointment". Bad service gets worse. UPDATE 2. Called HD. Waited on phone for 1h and 11m. Schedule another appointment. Took another partial day off work to be there. They showed up, brought in dishwasher, unloaded it...said, "sorry, it looks like your water line insert is damaged. Can't hook it up, you'll have to get a plummer." Asked them to at least take the old dishwasher (we had paid for takeaway service). "Sorry, can't unhook the old one bc the line may leak". They left the new dishwasher with us in the kitchen. Bad service gets really really bad (in case you are tracking, we are now at 2 partial days off work to be home for the appointment time). UPDATE 3. Called plummer. They came over. "Well, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your water line. No reason they couldn't have installed it. In fact, Home Depot does this all the time. We get lots of calls like this with alleged problems with water lines or other issues that aren't really happening. This is my email to Home Depot Corporate: To start on a positive note, had it not been for the intervention and assistance of store employee Hedi, Home Depot would have lost at least an $1,100 sale. At 10:30 AM I arrived at your Glen Allen store with an emergency situation. The restaurant I own suffered a power outage due to nearby flooding and I needed to purchase a generator so as not to lose tens of thousands of dollars in food. I was directed to the isle containing the generators, located the highest wattage item (Dewalt 7,700 watt) and asked the service representative to retrieve the only model in the store located on the top rack of the steel. I expressed my urgency to him but his pace never got above a slow crawl. He attempted to retrieve the generator on his own even though I urged him to get some assistance. Your service rep probably weighs 100 pounds and the generator at least 300 pounds. After failing to retrieve the item, your rep disappears from view trying to get assistance. He briefly comes back into view with an unknown store employee who moved slow enough to be considered going backwards. This employee stared up at the steel from a couple isles away and disappears from view along with the other service rep. Now I am standing in the department by myself, staring up at the generator, no closer to making the purchase and getting my situation resolved. Your rep comes back briefly to tell me he is doing his best but the department manager is 'out to lunch'. At this point I raise my voice that this is not acceptable service. Your rep disappears again and I am back to standing in the department alone. After several minutes, I go to customer service. Visibly agitated at this point, I approach who I assumed was someone in customer service. I even asked to verify and was given a positive answer. Very curtly I explain what is going on, the current lack of service, and how urgent the need is. I go back to the isle as directed by the customer service rep and hear over the loud speaker "Service to isle 40'. I wait and still no one arrives. It is at this point, Hedi, who works in another department, sees me standing in the isle, obviously agitated, and asks if I have been assisted. I explain the situation to her, again not in the most pleasant of tones, and she heads off to customer service with me in tow. Once we reach customer service she tries to track down the store manager only to find he left his phone at the customer service desk. We both return to the isle where the generator is located and still no one around. At this stage Hedi goes off and gets the original service rep. He explains that the department manager is still at lunch. Hedi goes throughout the store and gets someone from 'Pro Dept' to assist. Finally, we get the generator down and I am able to check out. 45 minutes after I arrived at the store!!! At this point in time I am still assessing the damages and how much food was lost. Needless to say the 45 minutes delayed in your store contributed to any losses. I don't think I have experienced such horrible service in my 50 years on this planet. read more

Nice and clean store, good prices and location. On the opposite side hard to find employees (would you expect something different?), but when you do they're usually very helpful and knowledgeable (with some exceptions of course). Very knowledgeable lady in the paint department. Tried to do a duplicate key with them 3 times and none of them worked! Went to another retailer after that and their key worked well. It was easy to see the difference in Home Depot and other key. I would never try to do keys there again, especially non-regular ones. read more

As with all big box stores you never know how the service is going to go. Wood, drills, nails and lights are wood, drills nails and lights no matter where you buy them. What sets stores like Home Depot apart is the knowledge of their staff and whether or not they truly believe in customer service. Recently I purchased four doors from Home Depot. The person who helped us is named Charlie. Charlie is awesome!!! He was very pleasant, customer focused and definitely knows not just the products he was selling but also doors in general. You could tell he had real world experience. Charlie steered us straight, answered all our questions and explained the whole special order process. When he said he would call or give an update about our order. He did. When a minor issue came up with the lock cylinders he immediately took care of it going above and beyond. Because of Charlie I will shop at Home Depot again. He makes the difference. I hope that Home Depot realizes this as I've said not all my experiences at Home Depot have been this stellar but I remain hopeful after working with Charlie. Thank you Charlie!!! read more

David had cables and said I was the second person in the last 30 minutes to need a jump. He went out of the way even though my car was not in their parking lot. David made my day. It was on their website for $266.26 and they told me that it was in the store for $292.73, I explained to her that I tried to checkout online but it didn't allow me too. I had someone already driving over an hour to get it so I had to purchase it and it was something I really needed so I went ahead and purchase thinking that I will contact the manage or corporate because they price match other store but don't price match their own website, that you can purchase and pick up in stores. Charlie made our recent shopping experience at Home Depot an excellent one! A couple weeks ago we went in to shop for new appliances for our home. Charlie was very helpful to answer all questions we had about the washer, dryer and fridge. We ended up buying all the appliances in the same day thanks to the useful information Charlie provided. We have been very happy with the products so far. We had to change delivery date and Charlie also accommodated us well. One thing we appreciated the most was that we were shopping with our child and Charlie tried his best to make it easy for us to shop by providing her with paper and color pencils to keep her busy. He is the reason we keep going back to buy more from Home Depot (we were there again today to buy lighting fixtures while we could have gone somewhere else.) Excellent customer service. Anan and Noswayne set the bar high for Home Depot's customer service. Our private practice was wrapping up a large project that was started during COVID closure, and was later put on hold to prioritize installation of safety protocols for our re-opening. Racing against time, and Home Depot crowds from reduced COVID capacity, I was shocked to have an employee, Anan, offering me help with smile while simultaneously juggling 2 other clients. When we realized this Home Depot location had only 1/3 of the supplies I needed to finish the project, Anan recruited Noswayne (also juggling a large line of clients). Noswayne found a nearby location with all my necessary supplies, and went the extra mile to call the location (placing her on hold for 15 minutes while simultaneously managing multiple clients) and requested the supplies be put on hold for pickup. Both of Anan and Noswayne were extremely knowledgeable of all paint products needed that day. Needless to say, in a world where online sales is increasing and personal contact is decreasing, these two helped our private practice complete the job and we could not be more grateful. I'd my in store picked up order placed on April 20. I've been received an email on April 24 something cause a delay which is fine to me and I totally understand especially due to covid 19. I was able to get online to check the order status and my order has been delivered to the store on April 26. Today is May 05 and I'm still waiting for a pick up email or call. On 7/3/2017 my wife and I purchased an appliance package from The Home Depot in Short Pump, Va. We live in Mechanicsville, Va where there is a store 3 minutes from our home (we could not get anyone to help us. We actually waited for over an hour asking everyone in an orange smock we could find. The folks working in that area were far more interested in "water cooler" banter than our business.). Back to Short Pump, we were informed at the time of purchase that we could not have our products until 7/21/2017. When our package was delivered, the stove and refrigerator were damaged. It was all downhill from there. I have called several times and asked to be put through to the store manager, who has yet to speak to either my wife or myself. I mention this because at this point we are about to receive our FOURTH delivery of a stove. To make matters worse, the first 2 deliveries were not even the stove that we had selected with our associate ( I do not blame her due to the fact that I watched her pull down the slip of paper above the stove that we had selected)!! The staff that we have worked with (two assistant managers and an order "expediter") have claimed to have been doing all that they can do and I believe them to a point, but when does this nightmare end for us. They gave us a "loaner" stove that smells of burnt plastic everytime the oven is turned on that I have to install and un-install overtime they call, which includes removing my garage entry door slab to make things convenient for them. It is now 8/17/2017. This is important to know because this is the day we were to receive our newest/latest stove and of course...it is delayed until 8/19/2017! Yep, it's true. To make matters worse, when I called in and spoke to the assistant manager (I asked to speak to the store manager), there was a note in the system that WE (my wife and I) ASKED for the delay! NOT A CHANCE IN ALL THAT IS HOLY WOULD EITHER OF US HAVE DONE THIS (he, the assistant manager, agreed that we would not have done this because he has been dealing with this for a couple of weeks at this point.)! I am certain that you will pull this post off of this Facebook page as soon as you see it. Which is fine, I would do the same. We feel that we have been slapped around quite a bit at this point. We donated all of our appliances a few days prior to receiving our first delivery and still have no oven to cook with in a proper manner for which we eat. We have had to eat out considerably more than we typically would and not to mention that I have made a few payments already. I also realize that you are bound by (info-wise) what LG gives you, however this is unacceptable. When there was any mention at all (from your representatives, not us) about restitution it amazes me. So far we have gone through two refrigerators and three stoves and we STILL haven't gotten it right. This has all happened on my personal account with your company. In this same time period, I have received several custom orders on my commercial account. Will I pull my business? I guess that will be up to your company and the resolution it proposes. I purchased a new washer and dryer 2.5 weeks ago from Home Depot. The initial order arrived damaged so the order was refused. I was highly upset to have to wait another week + to receive the replacement. Today the washer and dryer arrived and the 3rd party vendor HD uses stated they could not install the washer. Cheryl with Customer Service immediately had a plumber sent to my home to install the washer and dryer. Cheryl has worked with me since the initial order arrived damaged. While I was extremely upset to not have a washer and dryer for 2.5 weeks with little kids, she went above and beyond to make sure the installation was completed to my satisfaction. Her customer service is the reason why my family continues to purchase from Home Depot. I do suggest HD needs to look into a new 3rd party vendor who is capable of installing appliances successfully. Once again, I asked the greeter where a product was....was told the wrong location...walked by two HD employees helping a single attractive woman and stopped to try to get help from one of them, but was ignored...asked a different greeter and was again told the wrong location...finally located the product on my own after traversing the entire store 3 times - of which I needed 8 and only 3 were on the shelf...searched for someone to help get additional ones down from a higher shelf...found no one....and left disgusted. Went there to buy paint. I already had the colors picked out and ready. When I asked to have it mixed the older woman working in the Paint section put in the wrong color and made a GREEN instead of my requested BLUE. When I showed her the color difference and asked her to please mix the color I had asked for, she began to yell at ME because she had messed up. She told me she liked the color she mixed better and told me I should just use it. Seriously...? I spoke to Customer Service who was NO help and they asked me what I would like them to do about it. I left frustrated without my paint and went to Lowe's who had fantastic service. I later called the manager at Home Depot to explain the situation and let him know about the service I received in his store. He didn't seem to care. I'll stick with Lowe's. read more
