I ordered two items online, to be shipped to my home. Somehow the HD system changed one of the items to "ship to store," and the store is Hayward. Two hours away from my home. Huh? Idiots. I didn't know about this screw up until I got an email today, saying the item was ready for pickup. I have been on hold for HD customer service FOR AN HOUR, trying to cancel that part of the order and get my money back. Still waiting. Listening to their annoying outgoing messages.The HD website FAQs says I can do this through Live Chat, but there is no option for that on the site. You have to phone. And no one answers. The only other option is to not pick up the item and wait for it to be returned to inventory, and the refund to be processed. It takes a week for the item to be removed from the pickup desk, and God knows how long after that before the refund is processed. How does this company stay in business? I have no idea. read more

It takes a lot for me to write anything other than a great review. I try to be positive. I'm going to start by saying that I am not a contractor and this particular project I was working on was really small. I'm going to list my experience: 1) Walked in and headed to the lumber department 2) Found my plank that will need to be sawed in half (I don't have my own circular saw) 3) Get asked by an employee (the only one that willingly spoke to me) if I needed it cut; when I responded with a yes I was told the saw was broken (not sure when it was expected to be repaired) 4) I put the plank back and browse the aisles for various other items that I might need, shocked at how expensive some of the items are 5) Found sandpaper on my own. No employees (there were a lot) would help me, let alone make eye contact! 6) I made a small purchase because it was the only thing I needed that fit into my budget Bottom line? Shop anywhere else! I have been repeatedly dissatisfied and treated as if I'm non-existent at this location. read more

When I first arrived at the store I stopped an employee and asked where I could find someone to help me for water-heaters, and was directed upstairs. I went upstairs and was told that they were downstairs. Another employee I ran into once back downstairs, helped me find the one I would need (His rating is higher, for being really helpful). He set it up for someone to call me about an installation. ~ 24 hours later I received a phone from Fast Water Heater Company who does their installations, and was shocked that the installation 'package' was $2200. I was also informed that for my state, an L & I Inspection (an additional $250 not included in the package) was required. I checked with a licensed plumber here locally who had never heard of it. The labor is a flat rate, and they estimated the job will take 2-3 hours. I found out how much permits were on my county government website. The permit price quoted was $211 (included in the package) over twice as much as it costs to purchase one OTC with no appointment. Unbelievable pricing for water heater installations. I watched a youtube video where Lowe's only charges $200 to install (last summer). That is a bit more reasonable than over two grand for a $500 water heater. Unfortunately there are no Lowe's close to where I live, so I couldn't get one installed from them even if I wanted to. The low rating is for the price gouging of water heater installations and bogus charges from the people who do their installs. read more

Every single time I go here the employees are totally clueless. I asked someone where an item was and she sent me to the complete wrong side of the store, and you know how huge HD is.... Another day I was out in the nursery holding a pot, trying to find a pack of pots. I went to the register and asked if they had packs pots and she literally didn't even know what I was talking about. I have called 3 times and 50 minutes later, for the second time, someone picked up the phone and hung up immediately, without answering the call. Still no communication. I bought an online product and want someone to pick up for me but no way to pass on the information. They texted me with a prompted message, with no way to fill out the data dealing with car information, etc. There is no area to message that a professional contractor will pick up the product, and his information. Waste of time and energy. To buy the product, I called a department clerk to find out about product pros and cons-simple practical questions. The employee could not answer one question, and obviously knew nothing about the basics of his department. His recommendation: come to store and look at product and choose. Absolutely useless help. Contributing to the invasive weed problem in Santa Cruz County! I have appreciated the affordable prices and helpful staff in this Home Depot over the years, however, I learned from a neighbor today that the garden center is selling "Sweet Broom" in pots for landscaping. This variety, while marketed as "ornamental," hybridizes with Scotch and French broom and becomes invasive, filling up open meadows and areas under the forest canopy alike. We have a terrible problem with the management of this invasive plant throughout the county. A medium-sized shrub can produce over 8,000 seeds a year, and when the seed pods burst open, the seeds are flung several feet in all directions. Cutting it back does not kill the plant - the only way to get rid of it is to pull it up by hand, so it's very labor intensive to control. Broom is a virtually useless plant in this ecosystem - none of the birds or wildlife feed on it, and it chokes out native plant species, which do provide food for wildlife. Perhaps even more concerning from a property owner's perspective is the fact that it creates a fire hazard. If you shop at Home Depot, please ask the management to stop carrying it. Maybe if enough customers complain they will remove it from inventory. read more

Both times the company that was supposed to deliver during a specific time was a no show and they literally lied that they showed up and no one was at the house. In fact, both of those times I had paid help waiting to do the installation and I was also at the house waiting. We just experienced a nightmare of an experience with this Home Depot. We purchased a dishwasher last week, which took a while, no big deal, scheduled for delivery this morning. The third-party company they contracted out came in, saw our piping and said "I'm not touching anything, are you going to cancel the order?" I didn't want to cancel the order, and asked if they could just leave the dishwasher and take ours like we paid for and I would hire a plumber to take care of it. He just kept raising his voice and asked over and over if I was going to cancel the order, couldn't explain what was wrong with our piping, just that it was wrong and he couldn't do anything due to liability. Alright, fine, whatever - a wasted morning - I'll go to Home Depot to reschedule. I go in with my husband, and we're trying to figure out what exactly we need to get fixed before rescheduling. One appliance sales lady was trying to be helpful and brought us to another appliance specialist, Rich, who wouldn't look at us when speaking. My husband was asking what could be done, he kept saying "the pipe has to come from the wall" but wouldn't explain how we could fix it, and then said, "I'm not going to argue with you." We weren't arguing, just asking, and he snapped, "I have better things to do" than help us. We immediately cancelled the order, Home Depot just lost out on $700 and we won't be returning for some time. Rich, please work on your attitude, because it's hard enough figuring out plumbing without being snapped at. They promised installation on some items with purchase. That they would take away the old appliance. They were very happy to take my money. As far as getting the product to me? Not so much. They promised to call the evening before, but never did, so I would take the day off work, and then have to do it again. Multiple times. Finally they arrived, an hour after my delivery window, of course. They delivery team said that installation wasn't included. That they had no room for my old appliance (I only asked them to take one. Nope.). When they left, rudely, and I got HD on the phone, they confirmed I was supposed to have installation, and suggested I schedule another appt. NO WAY. Buy local. Pay more if you have to. He gave me information on one set of doors but when I walked to another set of doors and turned to ask a question both he and the other employee were gone. Vanished. Even though I had asked for help they both walked off without letting me know. I don't know if they had to go on a break, help another customer, whatever.
