Had to go to Benson for a business meeting...we got there too early for our meeting so we tried to go and eat breakfast at the Horseshoe Cafe & Bakery BUT there was a hand written sign that said "closed for repairs, sorry for the inconvenience." Unfortunately, we left and hit up another spot; however, on the way back to the freeway, we figured we'd try again and it was OPEN! We stopped it for a warm drink (chillier than Tucson) and I immediately allowed the scents of what appeared to be a homemade banana cream pie envelope me (HAHAHA). No, but really, all I ordered was a slice of this heavenly looking pie and a glass of water. The decor was just what you would imagine when in a small town like Benson. It had a homegrown feeling to it and maximum capacity (per the sign) was only 42. It was cozy enough to make you feel welcome but had two rooms for sitting and a bar area. The two ladies that tended to my co-worker and I were great, far better customer service skills than the other place we had stopped at for breakfast. Anyway, they brought out my pie, water and my co-workers hot chocolate. Her chocolate seemed pretty basic like from a powder mixed with water and was not too hot, nor even warm. She drank it anyway. I was served a large piece of pie, the banana and cream scents once again enveloped me (ahhhh)...I took about 4 fork fulls and decided that it just wasn't what my nose perceived it would be. Yes, it presented well; yes, it smelled great, but the taste was too heavy- it was more custard/pudding-like than anything. There were just 4 slices of fresh banana smothered between the custard/pudding-like "meat" of the pie. The crust was not good either, the custard/puddling was so heavy that the bottom of my pie was crumbs and the edge was hardly baked. What a great little place. Found it here on Yelp and decided to try. I am glad we did. Our waitress was so nice and attentive. I had the chicken strips which I could tell were hand breaded. We went during lunch time. Parking was on the street and was ample. The staff were friendly however no guests or staff were wearing masks during covid 2021. We wore masks and got some "looks." The food was basic diner food. We ordered the reuben half sandwich with coleslaw and the quarter pound burger with brown mashed potatoes. Reuben sandwich was small and the burger seemed like a frozen burger. Coleslaw lacked traditional "coleslaw" sauce making it very dry. The mashed potatoes had a odd gritty texture with the brown sauce being slightly burnt. Overall not a terrible experience but wouldn't go back since it's very average food and a mostly white area. read more

My friend and I had done a road trip to Tombstone and we stopped here on the way back for lunch and it was so worth it! Our waitress (I wish I remembered her name) was just the best and was super attentive and we had a good conversation with her. For food we ordered the Reuben sandwich and the Chipotle sandwich and both were just excellent. We shared a piece of pie that was also amazing. read more

Traveling through town and wanted to stop by this restaurant. I thought the breakfast was okay. We ordered the campfire scramble and country omelet. Both were okay. The omelet had a nice mix of ingredients and the portion was just right. It was just the flavor was nothing to say wow. I did think the service was great. Our order was taken quickly. I liked that even though I ordered a scramble, I was asked if I preferred my eggs cooked another way, our meal came out fast and our drinks were consistently filled. I absolutely love this place. We stopped everytime either going or leaving BISBEE. Food is wonderful. My only sadness is the service. Just waited 20 minutes today to place my order. Have a feel that if I'm not a local, I'll get a bit of a snub. A couple of the younger waitresses are nice and a few of the older ladies are snobby. Asked for chicken & waffle one day. Said "we don't make that" No problem, may I order a waffle and a chicken fried chicken. " ummmm, I guess" Weird. She made sure knew throughout my meal that that combo is not on the menu together .... but both those items are on the menu and I'd like to order each. Please be nice to all customers. Great diner, excellent chocolate pie. I had the baked potato soup and a club sandwich, salty af. I'm down, I asked for a salt lick for Christmas. I LOVE salt. We revisited the Horseshoe Cafe during a trip to Southern Arizona. This stop was for lunch. My wife and I ordered the same main item, the lunch sized Chicken Tenders. This used to be one of my favorite restaurant stops while passings through Benson.. The last two weeks I stopped in to get a Hamburger plate and Ice Tea.. On both occasions I sat at the same counter seat I sat at over the years.. After 15 minutes of waiting patiently and watching waitress's pass by time and time again without even asking if my order had been taken I went up to the counter to ask if I had done something wrong..letting them clearly know that this was the second time that this had happened in less then two weeks. They could only say that they were sorry but gave no real explanation on how this could have happened .. How a customer who was sitting at the counter could have been passed by at least 4 different working waitress's and not one could at least ask if everything was ok .. read more

Had lunch at the Horseshoe. I have heard from the locals that they have the best breakfast in Benson, Arizona. Too late for that so I had to settle for lunch. I ordered the chicken sandwich, cottage cheese and a side salad. The cottage cheese was awesome, the salads was delicious with tiny little strips of fried tortillas. The chicken sandwich was the best. It had spinach, bacon and a sweet honey mustard sauce. If you are traveling on I-10 and going thru Benson, Arizona this is the place to eat. read more

Cowboy diner. The food is very good (5 for diner food). The service leaves something to be desired (3 for service) for an average of 4. Bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado = excellent. Burgers = excellent. Onion Rings = very good. Sweet Potato Fries = excellent. Service, plan on a leisurely lunch. The wait staff prioritizes just about everything from filling the napkin reserve behind the counter to busing tables (when it's not particularly crowded) ahead of getting your food from the kitchen pass-thru to your table. I've eaten at the Horse Shoe three times in the last month passing through Benson. Each time the food was great but the place fell down on service ... for the reason listed above. Just my opinion BUT if they reorganized their priorities to getting the food to the table first and then everything else I'd be a lot happier. Wouldn't it be disappointing to travel all the way to rural Arizona just to end up in a gastropub? How silly it would be to visit the OK Corral or Kartchner Caverns and end up eating some kind of pickled something on a braised whatever served with a pork belly blah blah? On our trips to Wilcox or Bisbee from Tucson we always make it a point to stop at the Horsehoe Cafe. It's got the kind of charm that comes from a place that specializes in basic comfort food but also has a jar on the counter soliciting to help paint a mural on the restaurant wall. The Horseshoe is filled with regular customers who come for good food, pie, and community. There is no dish that I will say you need to get, they just do a good job with everything, and there is no once in a lifetime item, it's all the basics. If you are headed for a fun Southeastern Arizona weekend, why not do it in style and give the Horseshoe a try. read more

Breakfast was so good we came back. Unfortunately it was less than expected. While the hostess was a little more personable than the other one, she wore no smile. They tried to shoehorn us in a table when there were plenty of open tables. Our server, Catherine, was spotty in her service and our food, Monte Christo (should have raspberry topping, not packet jelly) and Horseshoe Club were only adequate. What a great little place to eat. My group of AT&T business Associates ate here on a business retreat after visiting the Kartchner Caverns. Everything here was great! Everything was pre-planned. They pulled this off very well and had al of our food out to us rather quickly considering the group of us was rather large for a smaller diner like this. 26 of us came in to sit down at once. That is a very large group for a little place like this! They handled it like champs and there wasn't any missed food that I'm aware of! We were in and out in about an hour and had apps, entrees and desserts! The owner stopped by the table and asked us about of experience as well to make sure sure everything was great! Walked into restaurant, seated, drink orders taken by the hostess, then nothing...no drinks, no waitress, no other acknowledgement of any kind. We watched other people come in, greeted warmly, seated, orders taken and beverages delivered. The others all appeared to be local residents. We left after about 25 minutes. We asked the hostess 5 minutes before we left she rolled her eyes and walked off. 5 minutes later we left as well. There's a lot of history to this restaurant, unfortunately we didn't experience the food as it appears that they only care to serve local residents. read more
