I love the horse shoe their food is awesome I had the French dip it was great I will definitely be back!

Cowboy diner. The food is very good (5 for diner food). The service leaves something to be desired (3 for service) for an average of 4. Bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado = excellent. Burgers = excellent. Onion Rings = very good. Sweet Potato Fries = excellent. Service, plan on a leisurely lunch. The wait staff prioritizes just about everything from filling the napkin reserve behind the counter to busing tables (when it's not particularly crowded) ahead of getting your food from the kitchen pass-thru to your table. I've eaten at the Horse Shoe three times in the last month passing through Benson. Each time the food was great but the place fell down on service ... for the reason listed above. Just my opinion BUT if they reorganized their priorities to getting the food to the table first and then everything else I'd be a lot happier. As it is, I recommend the place and will stop again. read more

Huge booth roughly 6 feet long great for 4 adult sized people, this was a great change of pace as most places have these 4 foot booths that make me feel claustrophobic. Mushroom Swiss burger was good though the fries were only average. The interior is dated and it seems like they've given up even trying to make it look good, they're raising money to do new murals (I'm not sure why a business would incur this cost to customers, this should be considered an operating cost and should be factored in to monthly expenses) so hopefully they'll invest time in general upkeep as well. Overall I'll probably go back the next time I'm in the area, I just wish they took a bit more pride in their establishment. The rundown look of the place makes me question how they care for other more important things like kitchen cleanliness, expiration dates, etc. read more

When you walk into the Horseshoe Cafe; be prepared to feel like you're in 1950's Arizona. The atmosphere is full of cowboy branded walls, a cool neon light on the ceiling, and your typical coffee house waitresses. I've noticed something: I've gone there 4 times, and the waitresses LOOK like they're going to be mean and hard. But as soon as they open their mouths to talk to you; they're the friendliest ladies in town. The food is plentiful, and reasonably priced. It's walking distance from the Amtrak train stop. If you find yourself near Benson, then it's definitely a worthy stop. They have a bar also! I had a Bloody Mary there, and it was good. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch and we were not disappointed! I had the Rueben and my wife had the house burger. The place is a nice, throwback diner and has a great atmosphere. Service was quick and friendly. The only critique I really have is that I always assumed that most places serve a Reuben with Swiss cheese and here they use provolone. The awesomeness of the corned beef however, more than made up for it. The burger was big and delicious (according to my wife) and the lack of leftovers on our plates told the real story. Stopped in on a weekday morning. Country fried steak had a really nice flavor. After a run of places with bland gravies - this was a nice change. I was full after my meal (doesn't always happen for me). Service was solid and if I am ever back around Benson - I will return there. read more

We stopped here on the way back from seeing the sandhill cranes at Whitewater Draw. Our friend loved their liver and onions plate and wanted to stop for another helping. How could we resist trying out a new place??! It's a quaint little diner with western decor. The menu is loaded with lots of choices of good ol' American food. The ladies serving us were very friendly and attentive. I had a tuna melt on marbled rye bread with fries and it was quite good...could have been melted a bit more but it was a very generous serving. My partner had a veggie burger. She got sweet potato fries with it and they were fabulous. We would certainly eat here again when passing through Benson. read more

Camped at Kartchner Caverns. Woke up feeling like going out to breakfast. Glad we found this gem! The corned beef hash is literally hands down the best! Actual chunks of fresh corned beef instead of something out of a can. Service was very attentive! We came back after our cave tour hoping to get a late lunch/early dinner but they close at 2:00! Definitely on our list to eat at if we are near Benson! read more

After watching the cook thru the window into the kitchen wipe his fingers on his nose then on the apron he was wearing, it's a Big NO for me . Went there couple weeks back on Saturday and saw that shortly after ordering and was grossed out. Was the first time in a long time I had been there and expected the same place that it used to be however,, The waitress with No Personality at all, dressed like a an Amish woman came to the table having a monotone voice who spoke barely nothing didn't add any charm to the place either. Food was mediocre at best , Biscuit was 3 feet tall at least and dry as a desert rock after 9 months of no rain and crumbled to the touch. Gravy was thick and dense as dirt and flour in a mud hole , eggs were totally over cooked however the saving grace was that the hash browns were edible. I don't know why they changed this place so drastically after taking over from the old owner but I really doubt it will last long !! In two consecutive visits I found the service to be unacceptable. First visit waitress was argumentative about what I wanted to order. Second visit I sat and waited for 15 minuets and was never approached by anyone to take my order. Won't be going back. Sorry, I don't get the good reviews. Hubby didn't like the biscuits and gravy, to bland..... I had corned beef & eggs, way to greasy and the hash browns were really undercooked. Nice bit of history, love the black and white photos of this place from the 40's. Hubby ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was over cooked. Should be able to cut into the egg and have the yolks run. Not the case, the yolks were hard. The ham was thinly sliced and fried like spam. Would not order again. The fruit bowl that came with the meal was good. I ordered the Cowboy Scramble which came filled with onions, peppers, nice chunks of ham and covered in cheese. It was served with country potatoes, very crispy, I prefer the softer. It was okay. Big enough portions to split for two. My meal came with bisquits and gravy. A HUGE HOMEMADE BISQUIT THAT WAS BAKED PERFECTLY AND THE GRAVY WAS WELL SEASONED. Great bisquits and gravy. In summary, if we were passing thru again, would try another restaurant before coming back unless I was craving bisquits and gravy :) read more

We stopped in here on our way to Tombstone. Yelp had it listed as a steakhouse, which seems odd looking at the name of the place. When we entered, I saw nothing that would have indicated this was a steakhouse. They do serve prime rib on Saturdays and burgers, but that's it for the beef. Their menu has standard fare for a cafe and bakery. My wife had a Reuben, and said it was one of the best she has ever had. The burger and onion rings that I had were outstanding. The rings were some of the best I ever had. And then there was the pie. The wonderful, glorious slice of coconut creme pie. This slice of pie stole the show. The crust seemed to be a wee bit stale, but it didn't take anything away from the filling which was heavenly. We split the slice, and good thing - we were both stuffed. It was a huge slice of awesomeness. We'll definitely stop in when we're in Benson again. read more

We are visiting from Green valley Arizona and our first time to Kartchnerer caverns. We read the reviews on Yelp and was very impressed that the owner replied to the reviews as well. We were there in time for lunch and had a delicious lunch special for $7.50 and a piece of homemade cherry apple pie with ice cream that we split as the lunch menu was plenty filling. My wife met the owner and she was extraordinarily friendly and the staff was very helpful making sure that we had plenty of coffee and service was excellent despite decreased number of employees due to covid. Great food. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table, but it was worth the wait. The fish was great and the Philly steak sandwich was really good. Very big portions. I also got the fried zucchini which was excellent. We will eat here again. So far the best place we've found in Benson. The hostess and our waitress were very friendly and funny. We stopped in for breakfast our last day in town. They were slightly busy and the hostess was losing her head. She obviously was not equipped to deal with the rush (which is interesting because all 3 days we were there they were packed with a line out the door). She passed us over for a group that arrived after us, refused us a "reserved" booth (for a local who walked in just as we were being seated). She even admitted to not being able to handle the rush. She seated us hidden in the back - with 3 other empty tables. Apparently this is where they seat those who aren't over 60 or local. Between the 4 us we ordered pancakes, eggs, an omelet, country potatoes and biscuits and country gravy (wasn't given the option for sausage gravy). Food was either WAY over seasoned or bland, so much salt that it was hard to eat - no wonder the older population (seems to) loves it. The only positive was our friendly waitress who was attentive and cheerful. Regardless, we won't be returning. read more

My husband and I heard great things about this restaurant, so we decided to check it out after a visit to Kartchner Caverns. I was craving a burger, so I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. I was not disappointed! Really good breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfect. The pancakes were plate size. The pit smoke ham was a larger than most serving that was delicious. The sausage that came with the breakfast was great as well. I did see the biscuits and gravy come out to another table and I think that will be my next artery stopping meal. The waitress and staff were extremely accommodating despite our loudness. We waited approximately 20-25 minutes after ordering to get our food, but since there were so many people, I would say the service was fast.
