Lots of sweets from cakes, cookies, chocolates, hot chocolate mixes, frozen hot chocolate and more. Prices moderate for the chocolates pre bagged ($13 for small bag for handful of chocolate covered peanuts)! Service helpful -no "welcome what can we help you find?" conversation but got our items and left bc they were closing at 6:00. Small area for seating.

If you haven't visited The Hot Chocolatier, then you really should! Such a darling shop filled with SO MANY delectable chocolate treats. The truffles were so lovely! Everything we had was so decadent and the advertised flavors really shown through. My personal top favorites and highly recommended flavors to try are the Orange Blossom Truffle, Earl Grey Truffle, and the Peanut Butter Bon Bon ($2.75 each). We also ordered their European Style Sipping Chocolate ($6) and a Candied Orange Hot Chocolate ($5). Oh my LAWD! This is genuinely among the top two best hot chocolates I've had. Paired along with creative and delicious truffles, it was such a pleasing experience to the palate. Service was great too. Each staff member was very sweet (no pun intended) and efficient. I look forward to returning to enjoy more of their divine chocolate treats and highly reccomend visiting if you haven't yet.

I saw this place on a Yelp list somewhere -- maybe the best hot chocolate shops in the US? -- and immediately bookmarked it. I made a special trip while in town last week because I really wanted to try it. I can't comment on parking because I walked from several blocks away to enjoy the city. It did seem like there were some paid lots available nearby, though. The inside is actually pretty spacious and was clean and well organized. There's a wall full of shelved confections like chocolate covered nuts and such, and a cooling case with other treats. The drink menu has an extensive list of hot chocolate, a few frozen hot chocolate options, as well as coffees and teas. There are a few tables for seating and about 3-4 ladies were working hard behind the counter. The girl who took my order was a little spacey but nice. I asked her if I should get hot or frozen chocolate and she said definitely frozen. It was a tiny bit chilly so I was a little reticent, but it's hard to find frozen hot chocolate at home so I went for it. I felt bad because she very enthusiastically recommended the addition of strawberry syrup to make a sort of frozen chocolate strawberry concoction, but being that I don't like chocolate covered fruit that much, I had to turn her down. She seemed crestfallen and I felt really guilty. It's not you, it's me!! I wound up with the smallest sized frozen hot chocolate and a bag of milk chocolate covered pretzels to go. The price was pretty high imo, but potentially justifiable -- I just wish my treats had been better. The frozen hot chocolate was fine. It was sweet and chocolatey, as you'd expect, but I couldn't shake the feeling of a sort of powdery malt flavor -- reminiscent of powdered hot chocolate. Maybe that's what they were going for. But for me, it just doesn't convey a lot of richness or depth of flavor; it's as chocolatey as a Wendy's Frosty, which is fine, but I was hoping for something else. I still enjoyed it well enough and I'm more than willing to accept maybe this just wasn't for me; I'd be happy to try one of their hot chocolate drinks and was a little sad I hadn't. The main detractor was the milk chocolate covered pretzels. I opened them the next day to share with my husband and my goodness they were unforgivably stale. The chocolate itself had a lovely flavor and consistency, but the pretzels were just sad. Not enough salt, either. All around very disappointed in those. I don't want to end on a super harsh note. I'd definitely give them another try, but would probably aim for a hot chocolate instead.

Delicious with lots of options. During our trip to Chattanooga, we tried out the Hot Chocolatier. It was so good we went back both days that we were in town. It's a very cute shop that is open with lots of seating, one wall is filled with different chocolate options and creations and their display cases are loaded with handmade chocolates, cakes and cookies. They have a lot of options for hot chocolate and also coffee if you want more caffeine. We tried a few different things during our trip. We got their macaron cake, squirrel cheesecake, chocolate dipped strawberry cake, brown butter cookie, orange pistachio cookie, Dubai crunch truffle and different hot chocolates. Everything we had was delicious. The cakes were light and fluffy and their icing was amazing. The chocolate was creamy and tasty and the cookies downright addicting. Hot chocolates were creamy and bursting with flavor. Each time we went the staff was super friendly and helpful. Giving out suggestions or answering questions. It's a great place for sweets and drinks. We didn't try any of their more savory options but I would assume they would be on par with the rest of their offerings. It's just a fun place to grab a treat and to sit and enjoy some time.

The staff was very friendly and doesn't rush you to make a decision. We shared the bread pudding, hubby got the squirrel (hazelnut/caramel) hot chocolate and I got the s'mores with actual toasted marshmallows. They offer already bagged candy, snacks, and cocoa mixes as well as assorted chocolates and desserts in display cases. The food and cocoas are delicious.

First time to the spot. The cashier was a little short and not friendly at first. After a few questions she opened up but didn't know the menu well enough to answer most of the questions we had. The sandwiches are great and freshly made. The hot chocolate was good. You could tell it was made the old way. One was a little chunky but the other one was smooth. Not sure why. I enjoyed the visit. It's a small place but has a cool vibe to it.

Absolutely unique and creative as ever! Wish we could open one up in Florida but it wouldn't sell as good. From hot chocolate to frozen hot chocolate from s'mores hot chocolate to peppermint hot chocolate which btw (is my fav) OH and lets not forget the hot apple cider. WOWZERZ! We enjoyed every bit of it. They service, the waiting, the smells, the atmosphere was wonderful. We arrived in Chattanooga Saturday and found this gem later that night and had the cider and then came back Sunday evening before we headed to Asheville and got the hot chocolate. We had a sweet lady that gave me a sticker for my sticker book / bucket list book and she was super kind and very nice to talk to while at the display / ordering counter. We will definitely be back and will make sure to let everyone know about this fantastic little cozy place. Miss it already!

If you're a chocolate-lover, this is THE place to go! There are truffles, cakes, coffee, TONS of flavors of hot chocolate like lavender and gingerbread, and frozen hot chocolate too! There wasn't gelato available (I'm assuming because it's winter). We went at night and the line wrapped all the way around the store so make sure you allot time. It moves slowly, but there are a lot of (pricy) items for purchase to contemplate that could make good gifts. No seating is available inside. Overall a cute shop with lots of chocolate options!

Here is another place I was told I needed to check out. We got a cotton candy macaron ($2.50), frozen hot chocolate ($4.75) and Marshmallow on a stick. The macaron was wayyy too sweet and was overbaked. The frozen hot chocolate was nice on a super hot day out. My daughter really liked it, I thought it was ok, so she drank mine also. It was kind of like bittersweet overpriced chocolate milk. The chocolate coveted marshmallow was very tasty but not worth $3.95 for one. It was a dark chocolate with a good crunch to it. The employees seemed a little clustered and distracted.

Delicious. We had a hazelnut hot chocolate and a white chocolate lavendar hot chocolate. They were to die for. The home made marshmallows really make it special. We also had the German chocolate cake. It was more mouse based than cake, but was very nice. read more

This chocolate heaven is ran by some incredible ladies. They have won many awards and have a few selections they always keep in the display case because they sell and taste so good. Bring a few extra dollars because you will regret not trying everything. They have cute things like humorous cookies and extremely fancy cakes like the " Hottie cake," Chattanooga's own signature dessert ( in my opinion) that is decadent and Spicy! You can go in a spend 1 dollar or many, but be sure to check out the clean kitchen in plain view behind glass where the chocolatiers make magical treasures out of chocolate. They have many drinks ( like hot chocolate ) and gelato. The chocolate dipped macaroons are life changing!! This is in walking distance of many enjoyable eating destinations, so remember them for desert and take some home! read more

Used to come here all of the time when we lived in Chattanooga. We like to stop here every time we come through town, and they never disappoint. Service: 5 out of 5 Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable Taste: 5 out of 5 Have never had a bad drink here. First off, many apologies for no pictures. Spending brunch and early afternoon with my niece & we did not think twice about snaps, just enjoy quality time together. Part of that was me introducing her to the Hot Chocolatier. This may be my favorite Chattanooga business I rarely go to. When it was closer to Finley Stadium, I was able to stop in for hot chocolate on the way to a game & work. Not always, but when it was a good day to treat yo'self. Several angles on hot chocolate so easy to find something you'd like She went with S'mores & loved it, while I went with a salty version and it was more of the same. Bite-sized chocolates were perfect...me, the Shot in the Dark, and her, the Tom Selleck. This is a perfect after dinner spot for Alleia, Stir, Terminal, etc. Really perfect anytime you want to treat yo'self. read more

The hot chocolate here is amazing. The marshmallows are beautiful and so delicious! The staff was super friendly and patient as I struggled to make a decision with all the hot chocolate options. They had beautifully displayed desserts. I wasn't a fan of the carrot cake because I feel that carrot cake shouldn't have a chocolate layer, but the Smores pot de creme was delicious. read more

I've visited multiple times and loved it EVERY time. This place has phenomenal chocolate treats and an amazing selection of various hot chocolates, and every one I've had has been delicious. They make their own marshmallows and it's the proverbial icing on the cake. Definitely a must stop spot for a sweet treat if you're in the downtown area. read more

As to be expected from their name, this chocolate is truly out of this world! My partner had the Mexican hot chocolate while our friend had the gelato, and I had a slice of the butterscotch cheesecake. We all passed around tastes and from this selection, we were blown away! I was worried the cheesecake would be too heavy on my stomach, but somehow, they managed to make it both decadent and light and airy all at once. The employees are sweet as can be, and extremely informative! We live two hours away right now but are sure to stop by the next time we're in Chattanooga! A location in Nashville would be the dream! read more

Good treats. Instead of giving us our 16 oz spiced cider, they filled 12 oz cup and tried to pass it off. They didn't apologize when I pointed it out. Instead they put it in a 16oz cup and then filled the rest with water. Booooooo....... read more

What a treat! Came to the Hot Chocolatier today with the boyfriend. He got a standard hot chocolate and I had the Hottie White Hot Chocolate with whip cream. Oh! Yummy! They were both delicious. I took a sip of the regular hot chocolate and it was so rich and creamy... definitely NOT swiss miss lol. The Hottie white hot chocolate was a white hot chocolate with a combination of spices. I belive the spice mixture was Ancho chile, chipotle, and a few others. Again so creamy and delicious! It was prefect to give in to your sweet tooth, but not overly or sickening sweet. Other than hot chocolate they have an assortment of cakes, truffles, and other chocolate confections. Seems like the price is fair for homemade pieces of perfection. The decor was inviting. Trendy and stylish. Had a combination of tables, booths, and high tops. They had a patio area as well for seating but definitly too cold to sit out there right now! There is also an observation area where you can watch the staff make chocolate, truffles, etc. In the kitchen area, which is totally cool! The staff seemed very nice and friendly and we're happy to ask questions about items or drinks. They seemed very knowledgeable. This is an updated review from June, 2017. It follows at the end of this update. "Chef V", a Culinary Arts teacher in town for a SkillsUSA competition challenged my claim that this place had the best chocolate ever. He said that after that claim, "They had better live up to it." Checking up with him after his visit, it was evident they did indeed live up to the claim. This is the return visit promised in my original. I'm glad I came back and will try to stop by any time I am in the area. I've also got a lot of product updates as well. Sipping chocolate is my favorite and on my first visit, I bought two tins to take home to enjoy. They were just as scrumptious as what I enjoyed there, but they do take some work. With their process, when you cook it on the stove, you are left with some lumps, but they are yummy. These tins of the sipping chocolate are especially important to me. My sister is in a long-term memory care facility due to brain damage. She loves hot chocolate. She could not conceive of the concept of sipping chocolate and I am honored to have bought a tin to ship to her. Both Chef V and a high school student tried the Hot Chocolate Float. Chef V raved about it. The student enjoyed it by found it was confusing. She said that on one sip, you got the high temperature of the chocolate and the next, the cold of the ice cream. I made a second trip today, foregoing deserts in the upscale restaurants I sampled in the area. It was embarrassing how fast I ate my two yummy pieces, the covered orange peel and the dark raspberry goodie. Original review from June, 2017: One of the best chocolates I believe I have ever eaten. Period. We only had a chance to sample a few wares because we were on a time crunch. Definitely, I need to return and spend more money. Menu offerings include hot chocolate, but a great variety of coffees. In addition to the hot chocolate, there are pastries and a great selection of piece chocolate. We got two samples, a mousse filled treat and 1" squares. The mouth feel and flavor were great. Now comes the best part. It is right next door to a distillery. At the end of the tour, they offer you a flight. By all means, buy some chocolate and enjoy it with sips at the end. I'm from Middle TN, so trips here will be a huge treat when I can make it. read more

This place is pricey but good! They have a ton of interesting flavors like chocolate with port wine or patron citronge.. huge hot chocolate selection but not much coffee specialties. Expect $5 per drink and $6-7 for a cake piece. It's not the best coffee I've ever had but you can taste the flavor and it's worth trying! read more

Came back to Chattanooga for a great weekend with a friend who had never been and thought I'd bring her. I raved about the place. The chocolate was amazing as per usual. As well as the frozen white hot chocolate. I deleted a star because although the chocolate was yummy, the service wasn't as great as last time. Last time the employees were inviting and overflowing with Southern Charm. This time, some of them seemed as though they didn't HAVE to be there. We were even stared at the whole time while deciding what to get. Not mean or anything, but it's a little uncomfortable when someone is just standing there watching you and waiting but doesn't bother to even greet you. Again, no rudeness, just a little off putting. Still a fan. And we all have our moments. So I would still come back. read more

I've walked past the Hot Chocolatier several times and never gone in! This trip to Chattanooga, I changed that, and I'm glad I did - it's a great place for gifts for the holidays! The Hot Chocolatier has everything chocolate: hot chocolate, chocolate cakes and other desserts, truffles, and chocolate covered everything (marshmallows, pretzels, nuts, etc.). This place has some of the best Hot Chocolate in Chattanooga. You can either get an original Hot Chocolate or many custom flavors with the Hot Chocolate. They also have a variety of chocolates , gelato, and even cakes. This is also one of my wife's favorite places, it's very kind friendly and they have indoor and out door seating. Prepare to wait in line for your order and sometimes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes (Depending on what day or time it it). Everytime we come to the Hot Chocolater were never disappointed and everything is great. I would recommend this place to all my family and friends. Even if your thinking about moving to Chattanooga or just passing through, this place is one of the spots you have to visit. Stopped here on the way through Chattanooga. I was really craving a hot drink and saw this place outside the car window. Made my boyfriend circle around for parking and eventually let me hop out the moving car (while he continued to circle) so I could check this place out. The decision to jump was 100% worth it! Based on Yelp recommendations, I went for the Vanilla Lavender Hot Cocoa- with the marshmallow as the lady helping me advised. DELICIOUS. So warm, but not too floral if anyone is worried about that sense being too strong! With the marshmallow though it was very sweet, just the way I like it! I wanted to give the bf a surprise for letting me hop by and the same lady as before helped me find the perfect choices. The Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel and Hot Toddy (not sure if that's the name but it's dark chocolate and cayenne pepper) chocolate/truffles, are perfect for those who love something decadent but can't handle anything too sweet. Went in my first time tonight. The three at the counter were very nice. Prices are reasonable for quality and staff was helpful with offering suggestions. Upselled but politely. Macaroons are very good! Some of the best I've ever had in the States. They had so many chocolate options, traditional, seasonal, floral, etc. Only issue is now that I am home I'm not 100% on what flavor profile I'm about to bite down on so maybe take a picture of glass case. I feel a bit like the Forrest Gump quote but don't mind the guessing game since the 3 I tried were delicious. I think they said they are best to eat within 7-10days so be mindful when selecting amount. While waiting in line I think one of them overheard phone call that I was waiting on Uber and hadn't drove since drinking or maybe could tell I was mildly buzzed. After coming back from the bathroom they had my box ready and a freaking go cup of water which was very sweet and appreciated. First appearance of the shop is so cute! It's decorated and set really nice. The people here were super kind from the moment I walked in to when I left. One of my favorite "sweet spots" on the planet, hands down! Our favorite items are the Hottie Cake, Hottie hot chocolate, truffles (so many to choose from!!!) and the Pots de Crème. Staff is always friendly and helpful, all of their menu items are made in house (you can even watch the chocolatiers work from behind large windows as you wait for hot chocolate), and even if the line is long the service is efficient, reducing wait time. So I am from Michigan but visit Chattanooga 1-2x per year. The Hot Chocolatier is always our first and favorite stop (Okay, I'll be honest we stop in every day we're there haha). My 9-year-old son is OBSESSED and has tried many of their hot chocolates. We had our destination wedding in Chattanooga last week and they made custom cookies for our wedding favors and two cakes for our welcome party. I cannot tell you how good these cakes were. EVERY SINGLE PERSON at our party said they were THE BEST cakes they had ever had. The only argument was which cake was better (we got the chocolate dipped strawberry and the dalmation cake), but honestly - they were BOTH AMAZING. Thank you so much for making our wedding weekend so special and giving our guests something to talk about for weeks to come (a few even asked me if they would ship cakes to Michigan because they wanted more haha). read more

Originally, The Hot Chocolatier began in Chattanooga's Business Development Center and moved to Main Street on Chattanooga's Southside before landing on Market Street (across from the Choo-Choo Hotel). A second location opened in May 2023 in St Elmo. It has been locally owned and operated since 2008.

Meet the Business Owner: Wendy B.

Wendy Buckner trained at The French Pastry School in Chicago and managed a prominent chocolate kitchen in Asheville, NC before conceptualizing The Hot Chocolatier. What once began (as a toddler) with an EZ Bake oven has since grown into Chattanooga's go-to place for dessert and drinks.

Before we left, we picked up some of their salted caramels to go, and they make the perfect little gift... assuming you have enough self-control not to eat them all in the car. The vibe here is upscale southern diner. One of the signs on the wall said, "All are welcome, but you need to act right," and honestly, that's the kind of life advice we could all use. I also really appreciated that parking was free. In Chattanooga these days it's hard finding a place where you don't have to scan a QR code, download an app, and pay to park just to eat. I also tried the Liquid Gold juice. Their juice selection is impressive, but I may have accidentally found my forever order on the first try. It was so refreshing, with just a hint of ginger. For a hot drink, I highly recommend the London fog. I'm not usually a tea fan but if you don't want coffee, this is an excellent option. Before we left, we picked up some of their salted caramels to go, and they make the perfect little gift... assuming you have enough self-control not to eat them all in the car. The vibe here is upscale southern diner. One of the signs on the wall said, "All are welcome, but you need to act right," and honestly, that's the kind of life advice we could all use. I also really appreciated that parking was free. In Chattanooga these days it's hard finding a place where you don't have to scan a QR code, download an app, and pay to park just to eat. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Milk & Honey is absolutely worth a visit...and if you're debating the pistachio croissant, stop debating and just order it. Your only regret will be not getting a second one.

I was referred here by a friend to buy truffles for an event. We sampled 50 different chocolates to decide what would work best and each one was amazing. We settled on the champagne. I am not a huge fan of the taste of champagne but I now feel that everyone should probably like to try this champagne flavored truffle at least once in their life. Everyone at the event wanted to try it many many times! The hot chocolate is also incredible. There are a variety of flavors of it and it is as gourmet as the truffles. I have tried Raspberry I think it was. I will need to try them all. The service each time has been very good. I have had no issues to speak of and I was served by what seem like authentically friendly people. The atmosphere, besides being a little dangerous to my wallet and my waist size is chill. There is more than enough to keep me interested in the decorations and merchandise until my order is ready. Everything seems genuine and hand picked, rather than generic or cookie cutter. read more

Their pastries were dry. The hot chocolate was mediocre and the staff was completely rude and rolled their eyes and spoke audibly to each other about how they don't like tourists. Our group spent well over $150 in the shop in under 5 minutes and we were made to feel incredibly unwelcome. They really should think about being kinder to their customers. Definitely don't go to the listing that says "MOVED" or "CLOSED" because, we're no longer on Main Street. Looks like we've moved after all! To 1437 Market Street and there's absolutely no way to edit an old listing... Oh well. Also our profile picture is of the building across the street. Not editable as well. read more

My wife and I are regulars here. We've never had anything that wasn't good but we love the macaroons and the Mayan Cake especially. The staff is super friendly and able to answer questions. read more
