This is definitely the new "HOTT" spot in town! If you haven't had hot pot before, this is the best place to start! You have great options of different flavors of soup, meats, seafood, and add ons (like rice, ramen, quail eggs, & veggies). Customer service was excellent! We came during a busy rush, and the servers were kind and efficient. They made sure each customer was taken care of. We ordered the Red Curry & House Special Soup and asked for two ramens. We also ordered eggsrolls as an appetizer. Egg rolls were fresh and crisp, along with a yummy sauce. The Red Curry was delicious! We order it medium spicy which came with 4 peppers. Creamy, spicy, coconutty flavor, yum! The House Special had all sorts of meats & seafood. Broth was perfect. Both soups came with fresh veggies. Our favorite part was the "Sauce Spott". They a wide variety of sauces: garlic, spices, cilantro, lemon, and more! My husband and I's favorite is their special sauce. (Spicy!!!! ) we like to dip our meats in that sauce. This place is a must. We live in Valdez and whenever we go to Anchorage this is our go to spot to eat at whenever we are in town. The food is Ammmazing. Everything In their menu is great and the owners and staff is always so nice and really take care of you. The special house sauce is to die for, and I literally order about 7 containers to take home with me. Hott spot is a family favorite and I bring anyone I know to dine there when we come in town. We went here for brunch on my brother's recommendation. We shared the "Hot & Juicy Shrimp" which was pretty spicy, but really delicious! We used the sauce in our hot pots, because we couldn't bear to waste such yummy deliciousness. My boyfriend had the red curry, my brother had the beef, and I had a special soup that doesn't appear to be on the online menu...either way, they were all good. The Thai Tea is really very good as well. While I agree that their prices are a bit high for the portion size, I'm more of a "normal portion size" type person who hates excessively large portion sizes (basically "American portion sizes") because I hate left overs and I hate feeling guilty about wasting anything. The portions are huge, but they're not super small as some imply. The place was clean, the service was pretty good and overall I'd go back again. My only warning is the place is pretty small, and I've heard there can be a crowd on Friday nights-- so be careful! read more

Our GO-TO when it's cold outside! I've been here at least 6 times now and am just now reviewing. My favorite is the curry hot pot with rice. You have to let your soup warm up a bit to soften the fresh veggies. Ask the server to put out the flame and you're good to go! They also have a sauce/condiment bar if you want to add more spice to your soup. They usually only have one server which is fine since they can only seat MAYBE 30 people at a time. Even though the presentation looks amazing, I'm a bit disappointed with the taste of the food. To be fair, I'm very picky when it comes to hot pot. However, both of our orders fall short to me. They were very bland. Besides the sweetness of the corn, you can't taste any other spices in the broth. They do have a spice rack near the counter but they don't translate well when you add to the broth (at least that was in our case.) The price wasn't cheap either but it's to be expected here in Alaska. Anyway, I was looking for so much more in these dishes. I guess I grew up eating hot pot as street food and when a fancy restaurant made way worse than the cook on the street or any hot pot dish that I have ever tasted for that matter, it was a huge disappointment for me. read more

The Hott Spot I visited the Hott Spot on a Saturday night at close to 8pm with my husband. The restaurant was quite plain with only a few tables busy. The space was formerly used for the Korean restaurant, Corea Blue. We were seated and given menus to look over. This is not "traditional" hot pot but a sort of hybrid offering. They specialize in soups which finish cooking at your table. They have several options. We chose the red curry and tom yum. We also ordered pork sticks, grilled meat on a skewer. My curry had chicken, pork, meatballs, assorted veggies, and a coconut curry broth. I ordered it spicy and it was as expected. The tom yum had chicken, shrimp, squid, krab, veggies, and a Thai extra spicy broth. Both were ordered with ramen noodles. A table offered things like garlic, cilantro, chilies, sugar, chili oil, and various squeeze bottles of sauces like fish, soy, hoisin, lime juice, and a few others. Additional add-ons of meat and vegetables were available on the menu to add from your table like shrimp, squid, pork, brisket, and various veggies. Things arrived at the table on a square burner holding a very full small wok that held a lot more than it appeared. The burner was lit and soon the wok was boiling. Most things are already cooked. The small ramen block was raw and dry. Initially there was not enough room in the wok to add them without an overflow. Everything was very tasty and I only got through about half of it. The broth was nice and spicy with a rich curry flavor. I packed home two to three cups of curry, probably enough for another meal but I killed it a few hours later. Eating was messy and not intuitive; I wasn't sure of I was supposed to eat directly from the pot or from the bowl my dry noodles came in. I only had a small spoon and chopsticks to use so loading the bowl was basically a bite at a time. The pot also boiled over a bit at first. Next time I would order the rice instead of noodles and also ask how to eat. The prices are not unreasonable with appetizers at around $9, the hot pot at about $17, and add-ons at $2-4. We also had add-ons of a Chinese doughnut and squid. The doughnut was a fried dough stick. it was rich and not greasy and very good to soak up broth. With beverages and a tip, the tab was $65 for two. We both had leftovers. I would come here again to try a few other things. read more

I have multiple complaints about this place. First off, the restaurant is tiny and crowded. It sits where Corea Blue used to be on Debarr. They crowd too many people in the restaurant for having little food warmers spewing flames. I was sitting so close to the table so the servers could walk behind me, I was afraid my hair was going to catch a spark. Secondly, no one bothered to tell us that there were condiments for the soup up front. We didn't find out until after our entire table basically was done eating. Apparently there are sauces and peppers etc up near the front of the restaurant. That would've been nice to know. Third, they don't allow substitutions for meat, despite the fact that all the meat is offered for the same price ($4 per portion) as an add on. I don't understand why I'm not allowed to ask for a little more beef if I can't eat pork. I paid full price and wasn't allowed any kind of substitute. That's BS if I can't have even something cheap like extra noodles instead...If you're religious or can't eat pork, expect to get ripped off. The restaurant got hot from all the fumes the jarred warmers gave off. If you're sensitive to smells you're not going to like that (think: buffet warmer fumes). The colors they painted the restaurant are awful and drab. They should've left Corea Blue's colors. The new ones look dark and dismal and uninviting. The broth to my soup was extremely bland, like they didn't put any salt or pepper or garlic in it. I had to dump quite a bit of soy sauce in it to make it a little more flavorable. The corn was very sweet and delicious but if you're not Asian or can't use chopsticks well, you're probably going to have a hard time eating a corn on the cob placed in hot boiling soup. They were so busy that multiple people at my table couldn't eat their soup because they had to keep stirring it so it wouldn't boil over and burn them, and we couldn't get the attention of any of the waitstaff for maybe 15 minutes after we kept trying. The food was an adequate amount for me, though everyone else initially complained about how shallow the bowl was for the exorbitant price. While the food wasn't terrible, it was awfully plain and this is coming from someone who does like plain foods. They need to work on timing of food--I had mine long before the last person got theirs. And they need to fix the "no meat substitutions" as it's very common for people to not eat pork. I might eat here again if I get desperate for hot pot, but I'm still waiting for Anchorage to open a decently priced "choose your own" communal hot pot place. read more

We saw the commercials on tv. Never have tried a "hot pot" before. Cute small open restaurant. TV with music videos with current music that created nice ambiance. We were greeted and served by a friendly efficent guy (he was in the commercial). Really made us feel welcomed and took good care of us. My husband doesn't eat meat protein so he ordered the shrimp hot pot. He bravely ordered it medium hot. The vessel is a sterno under the stainless bowl to keep it hot! Kept it hot! It was delicious with asian fusion flavors! Good broth. Vegetables. Tofu, shrimp, mushroom that looked like they were from whoville Haha. Next time he said he'll order mild. They have an array of spices, sauces, pickled jalapenos etc you can customize your heat level. We gave this place two thumbs up! I wish I could give it 5 stars, but it was just decent for me (mostly because my expectation was too high). I've been to multiple hot pot places that are in Seattle, LA and NY. This place is trying to be similar to those places, but not quite there. The flavor and the main stuff are there, but it just isn't same as the hot pot that you would get in any other states. There are much less selection for the extra meat, seafood, sauce, sides and other add-on. The sauce bar is okay and has basic stuff. We wanted the beef soup to be extra spicy, but it was regular spicy even after adding lots of extra hot sauce and chilly powder from the sauce bar. I had the red curry soup and it was alright. Similar to what you would get from the other Thai restaurants. Nothing unique or special. The amount of meat that comes with the soup was okay. You could eat it all in one large spoonful bite. One pot per person would do it. You might want to order extra meat or side. The place is pretty small. Probably has 8 tables and 30 chairs total? The service was fast and friendly, but I wouldn't call it attentive. We went around 2pm on Saturday, no wait but the place was pretty full. Lots of college students. The order of vermicelli for the side to the soup was 50 cents extra charge, as the server informs you when you order. Paid about $50 for two ppl after the tip. I guess the price isn't too bad compared to other restaurants. Usually hot pot places are more pricey like $100 per person. I would come again when I really really crave some Chinese hot pot. But otherwise, I would wait til I travel to the lower 48 to enjoy the hot pot with more selection. read more

While I didn't take a photo, thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I got the Tom Yum, extra spicy with rice. It was so incredibly good. I will say, this spice level isn't your ordinary spice level. Typically I don't find places that really give the heat I want, but this topped it and exceeded every bit of spice I was looking for. Really yummy hot pot! If I were only reviewing the food this place would get 5 stars. The menu has south East Asian influence on hot pot. The ingredients are yummy and flavorful! The soup base for my hot pot was very clean and comforting. The beef and meat they used was of quality. Delicious and homey, and I believe the only hot pot of this kind in Anchorage! The place was busy, I believe they just opened last week. They took orders very quickly but I waited 45 minutes for my pot of soup. The dish I mentioned I wanted as an appetizer came after my soup. The bill was dropped off to me 15 minutes after I got all my food and I had to ask for water and more soup. They forgot a few request in the midst of their dinner rush. All in all, highly recommend! My service was a bit frustrating as I felt a bit forgotten but those around me that arrived before me were serviced promptly. I believe as they get settled their operations will improve. Wow. This place is amazing! My friend and I went today, at around 7:30, and the place was packed. They offered to take our name down and shoot us a text message when our table was ready, but we opted to stay and wait inside the restaurant. There's only about 8-10tables so be ready to wait. We got sat down around 30min later, and ordered the house hot pot. If you've been to the hot pot restaurant up in Fairbanks, it's somewhat similar. The only thing is that your ingredients already come in the soup, and it's sat on top of a cast iron-like stand and they light a gel/alcohol for your soup to stay hot. The pots are really thin, so they get hot fast. Soup was amazing! You could tell the broth was cooked in house, and it wasn't a bullion cube diluted in water, it was legit broth. I ordered my soup spicy, but I could probably go for extra spicy next time. There was a sauce bar in the back where you could mix and create your own dipping sauce. They don't skimp on the ingredients! They go all out; the seafood was fresh, vegetables still had a crunch to them, and the meat was plentiful. Order a milk tea with your soup, you won't be disappointed. The boba was cooked perfectly in my milk tea; I didn't have a single mushy over cooked boba in there! Service was super friendly and knowledgeable, and they even offered more soup if I needed it. I didn't need more soup, I poured my rice and raw egg in there after finishing my meat and veggies and created the best rice porridge ever. read more

I got the tofu and veggies soup and I had it at a mild spice. The serving is big enough to take home which is great for the price. I got two Thai teas with boba because it was just so good.
