One thing I need to say is that Anchorage water is the best. They served it and it was so refreshing. I even had someone on the cruise ship say the same thing. We ordered iced tea and it was good which some places serve water it's okay so i would have been happy only drinking water which I normally have a hard time doing. I started off with a cup of clam chowder especially when I am in a city that is by the ocean and know for seafood. It was a good cup of chowder (thinking it in a Boston accent). The bread was delicious. They had king salmon on the menu so I had to get it. It was fresh and had a great taste. My wife had the roasted chicken Dijon. It looked promising, but there was very little meat compared to the king crab we had at other restaurants, and the flavor didn't stand out. VERY HANGRY from our city adventure, this place was recommended by our tour guide. I highly recommend making a reservation. They welcome walk-ins at the bar, and we were lucky to snag a spot since it was quite crowded. The decor is beautiful there. The background scenery is amazing if you are lucky to get the window seat. The mixed Trio was delicious, but the string green beans were pretty tough to eat. They were too hard to chew. The grill shrimp and scallops were the highlight of that plate. We also ordered the shrimp fettuccine to share. Thanks to our pretty and friendly waitress Paula was kind enough to have the chef divide the portion into two dishes. She was very attentive to our needs since we had certain food allergy. She came back a couple of times to check up on us and refilling our sodas. Overall, the food was delicious. Rating the restaurant overall, I would give them one less star if I included the restroom. It was dirty, especially considering it's a nice upscale restaurant. Delicious!! Four of us had dinner here tonight. 2 people ordered the mixed grill, one person ordered the scallops and I ordered the halibut cheeks. Everybody loved their meals! So yummy and fresh! Everything I wanted it to be! We had an expensive but delicious lunch at S&S. Fresh crab legs were worth it. I also liked the house speciality halibut cheeks but they were a bit too rich for me. Lovely restaurant, pretty good service, good mocktail selection. The view wasn't quite what I expected as it was low tide but also looks over a gravel parking lot and small park and *then* you see the inlet. So it's nice but not "over the water" as I expected. Honestly, I think my expectations were too high. The entrance to this place is a little hard to find - no signage anywhere, but we trusted our map to get there. We walked in under the assumption that 3pm was plenty early to walk in for a dinner without a reservation. We were technically correct. There was "one last spot for a party of six", but we had to wait until they were ready at 3:30. We specified a specific table and we were ushered to their bar area and had lovely drinks (I had a killer Alaskan cider) and food (just an artichoke dip that was "to die for"). At 3:40p we inquired about our table and they said they were still "finishing up", which felt like, "we forgot." So when we came in to the dining room, there was the beautiful table in the very center right against the window that we had asked for. We were told we could not sit there because of another party, but we could sit at the one on the right side. So we did, but they put place settings so that a third of us had to sit there with our back to the window. Wasn't a horrible start, but wasn't great either. After we placed our order, we didn't see our waiter for about 50 minutes. The conversation with eachother saved us from boredom and staved off our hunger, but I was just surprised to wait that long for a dish of this caliber and price and still be served room temperature. The first bite of my herb crusted prime rib was absolutely phenomenal. However, after those charred pieces, the meat required a decent amount of salt and au jus. It was beautifully cooked to order, but the profile was just... bland. My wife had halibut and it was not nearly as tasty. It was even more bland. Our waiter was fine when he was there, but had zero personality and less attentive hospitality than I had expected for a restaurant like this. Also, my wife visited the restroom and said that the facilities' stalls were installed in such a way that there was a literal inch of space that allowed for "easy viewing", which isn't something most people want in a restroom. Weirdly, I would never go here again, but I'm glad I tried it. The whole place was hit and miss. For the record, the center table that was already reserved that we had wanted - no one sat in it (or several other tables) for the first hour and a half that we were there. With more efficient service, we could have sat there. read more

What a beautiful waste of a restaurant space. This restaurant is long running and located in a gorgeous build out with a beautiful view. It has history behind it and Anchorage needs a nice spot out. A lot of long time residents told us this is the "special occasion" spot so we tried it. Prices & location definitely reflect it being high end. Menu was decently designed with choices that made sense for a long running location.... So the setup is there, the execution is not. All the details were missing in the space. Little things that we could've looked away from if service was on point, but they were there. The server was rushed, inattentive and uninspiring. For an almost $500 meal, we expect more. Our $20+ cocktails that are served table side were dropped with no care of execution and no explanation- a cocktail that changes colors when mixed, which is its allure, dropped without announcement and mixed without the eyes of the table being called to look. What a miss. Questions about the menu were answered robotically and care about the experience was lack luster. She did not engage. I LOVE eating out to be served and I expect it to meet the price of the place. We received counter service help at a "special occasion" restaurant. My $120 crab came out cold. Like ICE COLD. I'm not naïve enough to think it's truly fresh just because I'm in Alaska, so I know they're working with a frozen product, but please at least master the execution of a product that is special because it's from your locale. To make matters worse the server didn't notice because she did not care enough to do a 2 minute / 2 bite check back. I had to flag down what must've been a food runner or busser to let her know and then it took some time. The server did offer a cup of soup while I waited, the manager did drop off the remake with an apology, they did buy us a dessert. All the right things to correct that issue and I very much appreciated that effort. However the lack of care by the server and the sub par food was just not worth the price tag, nor should it allow them to hold the title or recommendation of a "special occasion" dining spot. I can imagine at the height of this establishments time, they were well executed, delicious and so worth the cost. They need to do a deep dive of their choices and investments and decide if they still want to be in the game because their current state will lead to a slow and untimely death. The bread - delicious, we asked for another basket, she rolled her eyes. The salads - ok. The halibut - nothing to write home about. The king crab - cold crab is never impressive unless it's a buffet or sushi. The sides on the main dishes - no flavor The baked Alaska - do not serve things that should be representative of your area if you don't plan to execute! Overall a disappointment and I hope this gets read by someone that actually cares to make a difference because it has the bones but nothing good is hanging on it. read more

My friend and I were seated for a quiet Sunday morning brunch and were looking forward to a delicious meal. We were pleased with the breakfast potatoes and warm bread, however we miss the muffins that were once served for brunch service. Our pancakes came 5 layers high with a delicious blueberry compote. Then, I tried one of the dishes they are known for - the halibut stuffed with crab. It was very good - but I did find myself digging to find crab - but it was flavorful, a great portion, and the sides were well cooked as well. First of all the service is amazing. I ordered the Lychee Lime Soda and it was incredible. Unfortunately everything went downhill from there. The Calamari was overcooked and managed to lose most of its breading to the plate. We both ordered the grilled trio and while my scallops and shrimp were good the salmon was so dry it could qualify for drought relief. My husband's broccolini was equally dry and everything was just so under seasoned. We were disappointed and for the price we expected much much better. Granted my husband's dish was ordered without butter but that only explains the lack of moisture not the lack of flavor, and only just. Like the salmon itself should have had plenty of moisture in it with just a kiss of the grill but it was almost like someone forgot about it. Again I stress that the service was excellent and the view of the water and mountains made it a lovely spot, I just cannot in any good conscience recommend this spot beyond the drinks and perhaps items from other areas of the menu. Edit: dropping down to 2 stars since for the price we paid the qualify if the food was really egregiously bad. In hindsight, I wish I could run into him and slap him in the face while screaming "DON'T EVER LIE TO US AGAIN." I will give some positives: the location looks nice, and our actual server was a delight and very attentve. That said, the problem is the food sucked for high prices. The calamari was good but more bready than actual meat; by the end the plate was covered in big fried crumbs and I felt like that was most of what we got. As for the meal: *The salmon was grilled but overcooked and dry *The scallops were very bland *The shrimp was decent, but by the last one I was tired of what it tasted like *The broccolini was so dry I actually choked on it - I imagine it's what tress taste like after a brush fire *The potato fingerlings were also blah *The carrots... ok, those were actually pretty great. But they weren't the main course. The pricing was already high, and the fact that it did not match what the quality of food should have been is disappointing. I don't know how often I'll get a chance to visit Anchorage, but if I do come back it won't be to this restaurant. read more

Walked in to celebrate Father's Day. Got seated right away. If it was not cloudy and rainy that day, the view would have been very good - seeing the mountains and the water. The New England clam chowder was good and flavorful but not that rich compared to other clam chowders I've had. House salad with dressing of your choice was good. The prime ribs were tender. You enter the restaurant from a hallway that looks like one of a medical office which threw me off, but once I entered in, the venue had a beautiful view. I sat at the bar which was nice and cozy. Was very curious about the Diamond & Gold (a clear margarita), and it was very pretty to look at but also delicious. I started with the French Onion Soup which was piping hot and tasty. For my main, I enjoyed the Halibut Cheeks which didn't taste fishy at all and were very good as well. The salad could have used more vinaigrette, but overall a nice balanced dish with the mashed potatoes. My bartender/server was also very attentive and the food came out at a perfect pace. read more

We made a reservation for my birthday and there is complimentary dessert which was crème brûlée (no subs allowed), it was amazing and so kind of them to do that for me. It is a little bit pricey but I expected that. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars, is 1. bc the food came to us warm, not hot and 2. do not get me wrong, the food was good, but not the best I have ever had for that price. The drinks and appetizers, in my opinion, tend to be the best part of dining here, which was true during this visit as well. The appetizers we chose were good, calamari, stuffed jalapenos $ a crab tater tot's which was interesting don't know if I would order that again. In the bar there were several flies in the air which I wasn't a fan of. You used to be able to get a house wine for $6 I believe now the cheapest wine is $9.50 or maybe $10 the beer price was $7.50 which wasn't too bad. The king crab was $120 ouch. read more
