Passed through Auburn for my son's lacrosse game (college club lacrosse) so we're looking for a good brunch spot to help with morning recovery and The Hound really fit the bill. The hostess and wait staff were really quick and efficient without hovering and our waitress had no problem with me customizing my order (BTW - substituting a biscuit for the bun on the chicken sandwich is absolutely the way to go). The food and drinks were great - the Bloody Mary's had enough toppings to be fun without being silly and did their job in promoting recovery. It's great that The Hound is attached to the cat themed coffee shop next door so we could grab coffee to go as we headed out to walk off our meals. read more

If you can do reservations, do so. We were quoted a long wait, but actually waited MUCH less than quoted on a Friday night with NO home football game in Auburn (please make note of that). So, they have an EXTENSIVE whiskey and bourbon list (my kinda place), low lighting, but enough where you can read your menus and see faces. Good spacing on the seating between tables. While this might seem trivial, I KNOW how restaurants and event venues try to SQUEEZE the most in the smallest space, where you end up knocking into the people behind you or next to you when you need to move/get up. Okay, the FOOD! UH-MAZING!!! We started off with drinks (though my sidecar was a little light on the cognac, they soon corrected it and it was good). We then dived into our appetizers and got the BACON FLIGHT (different styles of bacon produced in house or thoughtfully sourced from craft artisans). Duck bacon? Yeah, they had it and it was delightful! We then got our entrees.... one friend got the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection (I posted a pic of it). Another friend got a burger with fries. I can't speak on that because I didn't try it. I got the shrimp & grits (blackened shrimp, andouille cream, heirloom grits, scallions). Listen, "stop what you're doing 'cause I am about to ruin, the shrimp and grits that you're used to." I really can't say enough goo things about my first experience at The Hound here in Auburn. I will start with how AMAZINGLY friendly and attentive the staff was. Props to Ellyn! I took my kids here for a nice dining experience. Their minds popped LOL. We went all out with the Bacon Flight App (house bacon, duck bacon, maple bacon, ghost pepper bacon), fried green beans app, a full pound ribeye (they split it), mashed potatoes, and the braised Rabbit confit. Everything was cooked to perfection. The rabbit dish was a COMPLETELY new flavor experience for me. Totally satisfying. If you're sensitive to fennel ask the to take it lite. The ribeye was more fatty than I am used to but hey that's why you get a ribeye. Everything, including the bourbon selection, was phenomenal. I will be back! read more

Thumbs up and well done for the city of Auburn. My daughter and I were in town for a campus visit and found this spot on Yelp. It didn't disappoint. Bacon flight was simply ridiculous. Pancetta. Duck bacon. In house cured. And chili glazed. I ordered it twice... The special was essentially a duck confit burger. And yes, it was as delicious as a duck confit burger sounds. Daughter had build your own burger paired with what can only be described as mac and cheese that should be served on death row. People deserve a second chance and this is the best mac and chee we've ever eaten. Bourbon selection for dayyyyys and the cocktails are legit. Will be back. read more

Bacon bourbon bloody Mary is almost a meal itself, and the Mule was cold and refreshing. Portions are large- brisket omelet delish, with red onions cooked inside. A bottled jalapeno hot sauce was offered, and was great on the omelet. And the Big Nasty...such a good sweet savory hot chicken sandwich. We took half of the biscuit home! No room for dessert today! I'm actually shocked at how much I enjoyed the restaurant. The Caesar salad is little bland but I like creamy dressing, and theirs is the vinaigrette Caesar. So I wouldn't order the salad again, but the chicken sandwich is pretty good. I also liked the fries. I have to come back for brunch because I heard the jalapeño jam is great. So I came back and wanted to share that the shrimp and grits are delicious. I also had a special dish they prepared with braided rabbit and it was delicious! Had good dinner w my husband here at The Hound. We expected the place to be crowded with people on weekend but we actually got seated right away. My husband and I each got a burger and fried pork belly for appetizer to share. The beer selections were okay and they had fairly big whiskey selection with good price. Our burgers were very delicious with juicy patty cooked to medium rare (forgot the names of the ones we got). Fried pork belly had too much fatty part and no meat. It was okay but wouldn't get it again. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. If we happen to stop by in the area next time, we'll come back here for good burgers and drinks. read more

Food was pretty good. Atmosphere was creative. We had reservations at 6:45pm and had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. They were out of CO2, so the drink selection was limited. The menu is very small. It was my son's birthday and they gave him a card and made a point to wish him happy birthday, which was really nice. We let him order the $53 ribeye steak which came with fries. Not worth the price! I've really tried to see why people rave about it, but I just don't. The service is always impeccable and the atmosphere is gorgeous! But the food is generally pretty meh. I've had a few things, such as the pork chops and Brussels that were fairly good. But everything else has been underwhelming. Our visit last night led to the same conclusion. We both thought the Mac and cheese was bland, the bison burger was just ok, which pretty much sums up our whole meal. Just ok. But oh my was it greasy! Every dish was drenched in grease. We spent all night and the next day with stomach cramps and major indigestion. We won't be going back to try again. read more

Another 5-star visit! Two years in a row, we've been in town to see family for Christmas, and eating dinner at The Hound might be our new favorite tradition. We were again so pleased with our waitress (Brandy this time), who was genuine in conversation and making sure we were enjoying our selections, which of course we were. I've seldom been to a restaurant where literally every person at the table absolutely loved everything they ordered, but that's been the case with both a party of 6 last year, and party of 3 in 2018. Can't recommend The Hound enough! Shrimp and Grits (5/5) :: y'all. This was seriously the best shrimp and grits I've ever had, and I've had my fair share. There's a little kick of spice accompanying awesome punchy flavor in the andouille cream. The blackened shrimp are perfectly cooked and the grits are what southern folks dream of. Meatloaf Burger (5/5) :: sounds silly right? The onion tomato jam and housemade boursin cheese that bookend this burger in sweetness and tangy richness are the absolute perfect additions to the meat and mushrooms. Highly recommend it. Boris the Blade (3/5) :: imagine a whiskey sour with grapefruit instead of the sour mix. It was good but a step too bitter for my love and affection. K one last thing :: I called ahead to see if they were busy / if we should make a reservation, and the hostess was incredibly annoyed at every single question I asked. It was such an attitude that I considered not giving The Hound my business. Glad I ignored my gut for the sake of my stomach, but it's something management should be aware of. read more
