Definitely lived up to the hype. Cool place, sat at the bar and just soaked it in. Started out with the Tin Cup which is basically a whiskey me. It was good but a little sweet for my taste. Went with the pepper jelly app to start. Ritz crackers, cream cheese & pepper jelly. Great mix. Next up was Denver steak with Tabasco onions atop mashed potatoes. Steak was expertly medium rare and the Tabasco onions were perfect mixed in bite after bite with the mashed potatoes. Give myself a star for figuring that out. Decent wine list to choose from as well. Star of the show was dessert. A very friendly priced pour of Old Forrester Statesman. Amazingly deep whiskey list all moderately priced. This is very well worth your time in a fantastic Auburn restaurant scene. read more

Server was very polite and attentive. It was my first trip so I ordered the Denver Steak med rare. My only complaint is that it was med to med well but the chimichiri aside was very good. I stopped by The Hound for lunch with a girlfriend to fuel up before a day of boutique shopping in downtown Auburn! We both had not been before, but were determined to try it on the recommendation of multiple friends. We parked in the street near Toomer's Corner and walked to The Hound since the parking lots around the place were full. I would describe the feel as cozy and perfectly aligned with its New American/Southern Hospitality vibe (to quote another Yelper's review - "a hipster hunting lodge"). As an appetizer, we ordered the Pepper Jelly (homemade) served with cream cheese and Ritz (as it should be) and the Pimento Cheese with saltines (perfect). After just the appetizers, we were hesitant about having ordered entrees - my friend ordered the Shrimp & Grits and I had the Turkey, Bacon, & Avo sandwich. The bacon is a point of pride for the restaurant - I have forgotten exactly why but can tell you that it was phenomenal. Our aforementioned hesitation was unwarranted as we cleaned both of our plates. This was our first time here and I must say that this is one of the better restaurants this college town has to offer. We went on a Friday night around 9:30pm and it was still pretty busy so we had to wait half an hour for a table. The menu choices for dinner were pretty limited. We ordered the pimento cheese and crackers, drunken chicken, and a burger. The pimento cheese had peppers in it to give it a kick and paired perfectly with the saltines. The drunken chicken was moist and cooked just right; we finished every last bite. Additionally, the sauce was absolutely divine! We built our own burger with bison, Swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms, sunny side up egg, bacon, and lettuce. Yummm! It was so juicy and satisfying. Our one gripe is that the bottom bun was extremely soggy and quite inedible. Perhaps, toasting it would have prevented that problem. My first time here and it was for dinner with my colleagues. I arrived about 6 minutes late and most of my friends were already there and waiting. According to my friend, they had a table ready for us but because not all of us were there yet, they couldn't be seated. When all of us arrived, we were told we had to wait because they didn't want to over work their cooks/staff due to the number of customers already seated. They said we needed to wait to be seated until several more tables get their meals before allowing us get a table. We were eventually seated at a table, but there were 7 of us and we were crammed into a table that normal seats 6, but more comfortable for 5. We asked to be moved and that took several minutes until they agreed to let us move to a larger table. The service and hospitality here is interesting. They'll ask if we're doing okay quite often. Even when we're just drinking water. I order the pork belly sliders, which were pretty good. Sweet and savory all at the same time. Three sliders for $9, I guess that's a decent price. Then for my entree, I ordered the Skirt Steak. I originally wanted to try the fish special, which was blackened grouper over mashed potatoes and black beans, but the price was $32 so I opted for the steak dish, which was $10 less than the fish dish. The steak were cooked medium rare, which is how I like and the chef's recommendation, and it comes already sliced for you. Which means less work on my end. The mashed potato was delicious and topped with fried onion. Reminds me of the fried onion you use for green bean casserole. Either ways I enjoyed my dinner. I tried to go here on game day once last year, and that was a giant mistake. It was impossible to get in. This time around during my visit, I was prepared. We went early on a Sunday BEFORE church goers had finished praising and stuff, and thus, were successful at getting a table. The food was absolutely glorious. I had the BLT, and my friend ordered the redneck Benedict. We split the orders and ate to our heart's desire. The Benedict was wonderful because of the sauce, and the biscuits were perfectly moist. The BLT contained some of the most magical bacon I've ever eaten, and the bread had a hint of sweet happiness to them. Along with having damn good food, we had awesome service. This place has a great brunch menu, but they're not a 5-star due to the hosts at the front. They're extremely rude and impatient with guest. The last conversation I had with the young lady her tone was condescending and lacking genuinely concern for our party of 10. I recommend this place for brunch, but until those young girls at the front get a grip on their attitudes, this place will be a low ranking to the community's 5-star businesses around them. The bartenders are great with the guests, so maybe train the hosts with the bartenders to have their professionalism rub off on them. read more

Bacon and Bourbon Caramel Popcorn!!!!!! Bacon Flight; Black Eye Pea Hummus; Porchetta; Hound's Spicy Po' cheese!!!! Ended with the Buttermilk Pie... the Bourbon Caramel sauce should be illegal! AMAZING!!! I came here in February (preCOVID) and it was good then and my experience was just as good last weekend even with all of the COVID adjustments. The menu is a bit smaller, but the food is still amazing. I had the hash brown casserole bowl, my mom had the huevos houndcheros, and my sister had the granola French toast. They were all delicious. We had the mimosas with the juice that was on special, blueberry pomegranate lemonade, and that was also yummy. This will definitely be a regular place for me whenever I'm in town visiting my sister. They make the best veggie burger and Mac and cheese. However, while the menu boasts having a veggie burger, it is impossible to obtain. I went for dinner a couple months ago, and they had taken the veggie burger off the dinner menu in the day or so between making my reservation and going. I asked if I could order it at dinner anyway, and they said no. I'm vegetarian, so it just wasn't worth it to me to get only a salad without any protein and so we left. I went again for lunch, since the veggie burger is now only available during lunchtime on weekdays. However, they told me they were sold out of the veggie burger. I got the vegetable plate, but I had to leave off the collards because they were cooked with meat. The vegetables I got were underseasoned and poorly cooked and quite unappetizing. I had a pile of corn and a pile of green beans (both only flavored with butter and pepper) and some unsalted grits with a sandy texture. I didn't like it at all. Please make the veggie burger more available at meals and actually stock it during the few meals it is supposedly available. At this point after a few disappointments it just doesn't feel worth it to keep trying The Hound. read more

Started with a pretty decent Bloody Mary, that came with a couple toppings. The breakfast meal was filling and tasty. Potatoes had a flavorful seasoning. Throw in 1/2 price bottles of wine on Tuesdays and you are rocking out the caviar on a peanut butter budget. The Hound has been the one establishment that has been able to successfully keep it's doors open in a location that has been known for failed restaurant attempts. Summary: Being from a Big 10 school that's terrible at football and basketball, I had to try Auburn's best food and beer establishment and catch the Auburn/Kentucky game (Auburn upset UK, 2016). The Hound is it. Alabama cuisine at its best. Excellent service. Food: I wouldn't call pork rinds healthy by any means but these were fresh! Oh man, fantastic. I've never had something like that in my life. The sausage appetizer was also a great starter to my skirt steak (cooked to perfection). Service: The service here is on par with New York City restaurants. Everyone here is ON POINT. The host, the bartender, and the server made our experience one to remember. I was very impressed. While the food is good, the service varies week to week. We used to visit at least twice a month and I often hosted business dinners here, but I never plan to revisit after how I was treated with my husband and 2-year old daughter today. We were told the wait time was 35 minutes. We patiently waited for one hour before asking about our table (and ordered four cocktails in the meantime) and were then told someone else had claimed it. No effort was made to make us feel better about the situation. I know this review won't change anything- it's a small town with few brunch options. Just know that if you receive bad service and have a terrible experience, nothing will be done to compensate you for it. read more

We came here for lunch during our recent Auburn trip. The burgers are phenomenal. We ordered their typical BLT and a house special called the Korean Hound Barbecue. The Korean Hound Barbecue is not on the menu and it is new. The manager wanted us to taste it and give him feedback and it was our pleasure. It tasted really good, except it was a little bit too salty for me. The service is the epitome of southern hospitality and they were eager to hear our feedback. It is an excellent place for lunch for sure. The place is a little difficult to find for first timers. A hidden gem in Auburn and not what I expected at all. From first looks walking in you would think this is a sports bar with the regular burgers and wings fare. Boy was I wrong. Me and the fam came in on a Saturday for a late lunch and from the get-go I was blown away. Started with the bucket of freshly prepared pork rinds thinking it was some novelty and was pleasantly surprised. Then the very informative and attentive server helped us navigate the very unique brunch menu selections. We had the redneck Benedict and a chicken salad that was really a gourmet sensation of complex flavors waiting to explode in your mouth. The little one wanted. Grits and eggs - and I've experienced the bland sludge with yellow globs you typically get at the breakfast chains. This was no way even close to that. Instead they proudly served a yummy bed of stone ground southern grits with real eggs atop cooked to perfection. After further investigation, it was revealed that they actually have a real chef along with a staff that is truly passionate about what they do from the kitchen to the servers.
