My favorites are the shrimp and grits at $24, chicken Florentine at $19 and favorite appetizers are warm pimento cheese dip at $9 and hot crab dip at $12. Great drink options with full time bartender. Vegetetian options are restricted to salads and appetizers. Modest size restaurant, romantic lighting, with a cozy feel. When I look back at my experience with The Hound's Tale the main word that comes to mind is mediocre. My experience started off at a 4/5. My party of 3 was left standing around for around five minutes before being acknowledged. Granted it was busy, but it's still pretty awkward to stand around without any signage telling you to wait or to seat yourself. Once someone came over though, we were seated swiftly. Within minutes our server comes over to take our drink orders and gave us time to familiarize ourselves with the menu. Our orders consisted of their steak, the wagyu burger, and wild mushroom wellington. They all tasted good but for the price we paid they ended up to be a little underwhelming. I got to hand it to them though, the cookery of the steak (mid rare) and burger (mid rare) is a chef's dream. The highlight of our meal has to be the dessert. It looked and tasted so decadent that the table next to us got excited about it and ordered the same thing! I don't remember the name but it could have been a brownie sundae of some sort. Either or no matter the name it was rich and delicious! All in all I do wish they had a bigger menu and had more drinks on the menu that wowed. They have the atmosphere set up great and the chefs definitely know how to cook, but the restaurant in all was still lacking. read more

My first time in Williamsburg and I found this place on Yelp. The canine decor looked fun, but I was mostly interested in their crab dip, because, of course. Walked in around 6pm on a Saturday and was immediately warmly greeted. Obviously I'm not in DC anymore. Pull up a spot at the bar and the bartender is on it, offering menus and letting me know about the day's specials. Cocktail (Hendricks Collins) is on point and the crab dip hits the spot. The bartender checked in regularly without pressuring or rushing me. I order an entree (I wanted the burger but opted for the hot dog because when is a hot dog an option on the adult menu??) and I tell the bartender I'll have a 2nd round when the entree comes out. My food arrives and 60 seconds later so does my 2nd drink. Didn't even have to ask. The hot dog is definitely the best I've ever had. The bar is probably low, but this exceeded expectations. The vibe here is chill and low key. Music is on point--Neil Diamond, First Aid Kit, Van Morrison, and James Taylor to name a few. The clientele is intergenerational and so refreshing. If I'm ever back in Williamsburg, I'll definitely return to The Hound's Tale! read more

The food and drinks were wonderful. K had the fish and chips. The rich was in a flavorful batter and well cooked. The fish was light and flaky and not saturated in grease. I had the Korean chicken. Don't be fooled by the name as it really isn't spicy. It is delicious though. The rice makes a wonderful side. We also had the spinach salad that was the perfect appetizer to split. Made us feel a little better having fried dinner. The drinks, dark & stormy for me, were well made with the right proportions. Our only complaint would be the lack of masks by the kitchen staff and a group of folks we assume were the owners who kept going in and out of the kitchen. read more

This was our fancy night out. The hostess was very polite. Our waitress was great. The ice tea is not very good, but that's alright. I got salmon with spinach it was absolutely delicious! Very fresh tasting, and cooked perfectly. My sister got scallops and asparagus. It was rather expensive, but it was tasty. The asparagus could have been cooked a little more. We stopped in as soon as they opened and it definitely lived up to the reviews posted by others. The duck was tender and rendered well and the bean sprout hash was surprisingly awesome but I'm not sure the cranberry balsamic was the best sauce for it. I would probably ask for the traditional sauce next time. The mushroom wellington had exceptional flavor. I did wish it was a thicker slice both for filling purposes and because of how tasty it was. Our 2 yr old had the mini hotdogs with fries and that seemed to satisfy her. Not sure the names of the beers we had but it was a wheat and a stout, both were great! This place is very quaint and service was good. I could definitely see spending a couple hours enjoying the beers and foods for those without kids. Stop in if you have the opportunity! read more

First time in my life I couldn't eat the steak I was served. The skirt steak was so tough and rare I had to send it back to stop the bleeding. Then it was still chewy and tough and the rolling claimed to Be chimichurra wasn't even close. Tasted like someone dumped wet oregano on top. Wife had the salmon which while cooked well had very odd flavored sauce. Kids hot dogs were fine and big portioned. Enough for two kids to share. We arrived with our very little baby (too small for indoor dining) and asked if we could sit at one of the two sidewalk tables, which the hostess promptly cleaned off. We ordered a few drinks, the deviled eggs with crab, strawberry salad, pepperoni flatbread, and salmon. Everything arrived fast, was hot, and was delicious. We enjoyed our meal and were able to finish before the baby became fussy, which is a dream come true for our current dining parameters. Prices were reasonable (especially compared to NoVa). Lovely restaurant with good food and superb service! The entire restaurant is dog themed- they give you free popcorn in a dog bowl! There's a intimate feel and a nice bar. Service is fantastic- all our servers seemed happy and were super friendly and attentive. We started off with the hand cut garlic fries, which were very well seasoned. My boyfriend got the short ribs; the red wine sauce was amazing and the meat was very juicy. I got the seared scallops, which ended up being more filling than I expected. Each scallop was giant and the outside was seared to the perfect crispiness. Wasn't a fan of the cream (or mashed potatoes?) on the bottom, but the other vegetables and seasoning was great! We had tiramisu for dessert and loved it! Super soft and fluffy. Will definitely be back if I get the chance. I'm a Williamsburg local, so I'm pretty picky about where I eat in the Burg. I can afford to be; I live here. Hit the Hound's Tale last week with the girlfriend. Love the free popcorn appetizer. We shared the brussels sprouts, I had the burger, she had the crab cakes. Food was excellent in all cases; hot, flavorful, portion sizes enough to fill you up but not stupid-big. The fries with the burger were really good; there's some seasoning that they use that's really appealing. Service was great: attentive but not overbearing. It was a bit pricey I have to admit, but it *IS* a very nice restaurant in an expensive town. Unlike some local places (cough-Blue-Talon-cough), the food and service made it worthwhile. The Hounds Tale is one of those restaurants were you are planning your next visit before you have finished your first. The atmosphere is so fun and relaxing. I loved all of the dog decorations. We started with the pierogis. ($8.00) They were made with smoked chicken, creamed leeks, roasted mushrooms with pickled egg vinaigrette. These were the best pierogis that we have ever had. The Fried Brussels were outstanding. ($8.00) They fried the brussel sprouts and placed them over a spicy tomato sauce. The dish was finished off with a lemon aioli and shaved pecorino cheese. It was a wonderful combination of flavors. The flatbread was underwhelming and lacked the creativity that the first two dishes offered. We barely touched it and was regretful that we ordered it with so many other food options available. The Hound's Tale Wagyu Burger was another superstar. ($17.00) It comes with a three cheese fondue, bacon, caramelized onions on a Portuguese bun. My husband devoured this burger and swears that it is one of the best that he has ever had. We ended the meal with coffee and dessert. ($12.00) The dessert was a mocha pie with whipped cream and a salted caramel drizzle. It was rich and scrumptious. We ate at The Barkery, the dog friendly patio of The Hound's Table. It opened at 4 pm and the patio was already well shaded. The wine selection is a little sparse, but my husband and I both enjoyed our drinks. Our 4 legged daughter, Hazel, was immediately given a cool fresh bowl of water. We had delicious deviled eggs for a starter, while Hazel had peanut butter pie bites (dog biscuits). We both had burgers that were very good, but cooked medium rather than medium rare as ordered. We needed to arrange a rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding, from halfway across the country. Brittney at The Hound's Tale was very easy to work with and a great communicator. Living 14 hours away, we'd, of course, never eaten there before, but the food drinks for our dinner were excellent and the staff was extremely helpful throughout the entire evening. The meal got loads of compliments from everyone who attended. The venue also was nice for our casual gathering, as people could move easily from the inside dining area to the outdoor patio/games area, as they liked. We've been here several times and it is consistently great. We normally share a bunch of their small plates. The fried Brussels sprouts are delicious as are the Pierogies. I think what I like most is that the small plates offer unusual options that you don't see everywhere. For larger meals, the burger is great as well as the skirt steak. I may be wrong about the cut but it was cooked perfectly with a bright Chimichurri sauce. The service is also uniformly friendly and efficient.
