The staff is amazingly friendly! From the moment I opened the door I was greeted by every single staff member I saw. The ambience is hella cute too. We were prepared to wait a little as we had been told that the wait could be substantial prior to visiting. But, the wait wasn't that long even though they were pretty busy. Since we have had A LOT of Hawaiian food over the years our expectations were high. But, the food we ordered didn't match up. We could tell they were trying but had added some of their own flair that didn't match with our tastes. We would like to give a higher rating but it wouldn't be fair to the other places in the area that we liked much better. We will come back and try some other dishes if we have time. read more

You immediately feel at home. 2) The decor transports you to the Pacific Islands without the expense or hassle of flights, hotels, and rental cars. 3) The Hawaiian music playing...ummm...think I feel the tension in my shoulders loosening up. 4) Mai Tai Saturday? Yes, please! If it's a Saturday, this tropical elixir is $1.00 off! 5) The food? I just wanted to start off this review by saying that the food is phenomenal. This is easily one of our favorite restaurants in town and the service has been spectacular. On October 7th 2025 at 11:30 am, our server, Michael (this was the name on the ticket), briefly greeted us. My husband mentioned immediately that he thought our server was extremely drunk. We waited nearly 40 minutes just for water. While waiting for service and trying to track him down for our drinks, we observed him carry and spill a margarita (no one the patio had ordered alcohol), another patron waited too long for her check and to-go boxes so cash was placed on the table and she left. A patron next to us had ordered a coffee which he never received. After we received our water, we noticed he came out with an other tray with several glasses of water 10 minutes later. He stopped, looked confused, mumbled something and then placed the water tray down on an empty table and went back inside. The water tray was still on the table by the time we left. 15 minutes after finally receiving the water, our food was brought out by the head chef. My husband immediately asked the head chef for to-go boxes and the check because we were so uncomfortable. Our final interaction with him was when he finally brought out the Diet Coke I ordered. He then also realized we didn't have silverware, my husband told him we were waiting on to-go boxes and we didn't need any, the server said "okay" and still placed them down. As we were packing up our food, a waitress who had been called in ran inside to grab an apron and assisted everyone who had been neglected on the patio. She was brisk, attentive and professional. We got more service in 60 seconds with her, than the 75 minutes we were there. This experience that we had today, was not at all typical of an experience at Hukilau. The chefs are outstanding and the wait staff is normally exceptional and attentive. This experience was absolutely ruined by a single individual and we left the restaurant very put off and bummed out. read more

A Hawaiian restaurant right in the same lot as our hotel, what could be better? As it turns out, pizza delivered in 30 minutes was better. When we walked into this "hip" little joint, we were not sure how to proceed. So we asked. First eye roll. The female behind the bar pointed to a table in the back. A waitress was taking orders from the next table and saw us sit down. No acknowledgement. No head nod. No "Just a moment." Whenever her face was towards us, her eyes were dead. After several minutes of waiting, my hubbie said "I am giving them 5 more minutes." It didn't take 5 minutes before I took the decision from him. On our other side a table emptied and a surfer type dude cleaned and pushed two tables together. When the waitress returned with menus and utensils, we assumed she was headed our way. Nope. She actually started setting up the tables next to us for people who were not even there yet. And I was still polite when I said "Excuse me"as I stepped around both servers working on that empty table. When she looked at me, I rolled my eyes at her and walked out. I sure hope they were good tippers... because we are. It's ok. We just gave her tip to the pizza delivery guy. read more

Plating was great, everything looked amazing. Coleslaw was the best I've ever had. Teriyaki pineapple chicken was good. The "brisket" was awful. We have had brisket many times from many different establishments, and this was not brisket. Which would have been fine if it was good, but it did not taste good and was incredibly tough and hard to eat. It seemed more like skirt steak that was way way overcooked. We tried to eat as much as we could, but ultimately we took most of it home to the dog. read more

The only interesting thing is they said they used real crab... I didn't try those rolls because it's upwards of $30. The table next to me also didn't finish the taco or combo plate. Short answer: RECOMMENDED ! This was a drive by, I am starving, got to eat something, no time to check YELP as I was driving and then landing here at Hukilau, which BTW means a method of fishing. I checked it out once I parked the Airstream, never an easy task, and it had good reviews. Rolled and and found a great place, covid friendly, and they had a nice cool vibe. Location: Right on the freeway, hard to miss, street parking but getting across the freeway can be a bit like Frogger. We made it and did not die. Facility: No indoor seating but they had creative outdoor cubes set up with plexiglass dividers. Nothing fancy and it was cold. Menu: Incredible, perfect for someone starving, so I went with Hawaiian burger and fries, I think it was on my diet, I cannot remember as I was so freaking famished. Food: It was really tasty and no, I did not eat all of it. I feel all their food was better than it needed to be but the owner has a lot of pride in her business. Moved here from the islands and now spending the Loco Moko love on our coast. Prices: not too bad considering location $$. Value: A great value for us, we will come back no doubt. read more

We had the sushi, 2 rolls which were very large and good, except when they're that large diameter it's hard to eat without it falling apart. We were there on a Saturday and arrived at 12:50 and sat outside. It took 1 hour for us to get our appetizer of jerky. Another 20 minutes later our sushi rolls arrived. Took 15 minutes to get water. A couple that arrived about 1:45 and sat next to us got their appetizer in 15 minutes and main course 5 minutes later. The waiter was nice, but everything he promised to get for us never came: 1. Water refill, I was empty for 15 minutes after he said he would bring more water and I got up and got it myself from the pitcher he left 15 feet away. 2. Napkins - never got them with our appetizer, did get them after asking twice to use eating our rolls. 3. Plates for our sushi eating. Never got them even though he told us he would bring some. He did show up with plates, but took them to the table next to us who already had some and said "oh well, here's some extra plates for you." We were very patient and just decided to accept our invisibility with patience, but will not go back again. We were told by a local they had the best sushi ever. It's was definitely good.
