Wow, what a unique find! Hummingbird is off an intersection in Los Feliz, minimal street parking unless you get lucky. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll feel transported into another country almost. The disco ball, the mood lighting, the live piano and singer, and overall upbeat energy was an instant vibe. I love how enthusiastic the staff is about the food, especially our server Gaia, who was an absolute gem. She kept our corn seeds refilled all evening (which by the way, was SO good and SO filling). The items we ordered were so unique and definitely felt like a true fusion of Peruvian and Japanese culture. We ordered: SPICY CRAB HAND ROLL: Wow, love the crunch and aioli in this!! Very flavorful, and the subtle crunchy texture was incredible. HOKKAIDO SCALLOP: Not sure what fermented douche paste is, but this was also a banger. It was fresh, and had an almost milky flavor to it. The bomb. SHRIMP DUMPLING w TIGER MILK AIOLI & SESAME LEAF: This was probably the highlight of our evening. Our server Gaia highly recommended this. I'm not a huge dumpling person, but she convinced me that it was worth it. I cannot rave enough about this dish. The subtle milky and creamy sauce drizzled on top of the shrimp dumpling was incredible. Idk if I'd even call it a dumpling because the shape was very interesting. The sesame leaf gave it such a refreshing aftertaste. Highly recommend this one! JAPANESE CURRY RAVIOLI: Probably my second favorite! I've never had curry ravioli before but what an audacious idea! MISO COD: Loved the little puffed things on top of the miso cod!!! Pretty standard dish, but it was really good! SALMON SKEWERS: Came highly recommended by Gaia, so of course we ordered it. Flavorful as heck, and love the sauce that it came with! BLUEBERRY PIE: Ohhhh boy, this was the most decadent and delicious pie I've EVER eaten. It came with a bunch of whipped cream, and two scoops of ice cream. The pie was so thick, it tasted like how fairy tale storybooks describe a pie made with love by someone's grandma. The slice is HUGE too, so you're def getting your money's worth for $15. Yes the food here was great, but our experience was truly elevated by the staff, especially our server Gaia! "Good evening, I wanted to reach out regarding a 9:15pm dinner reservation on 2/13/26. This was my fourth time visiting. During past tasting menu experiences at Hummingbird, we received pasta, steak, hand rolls, and more than one ceviche dish as part of middle tier ~ $80 pre gratuity tasting menus. My December 5, 2025 tasting menu total was $200 for two persons after a 20% gratuity and credit card processing fee. Our $262.27 2/13/26 meal was disappointing because we received 1/3 the amount of food and a bill that was 30% more expensive than what we have experienced the past three times. We should not have been asked if we would like to place a pre kitchen closing order (for more food) when we thought we had just begun our tasting menu. Our rushed dinner service consisted of 9:45pm kitchen closing - end of night left overs (e.g. peruvian fried rice as the focal point entree). After we provided a high amount for an unsatisfactory experience, the interaction from the chef at the end of the meal came across as disingenuous. I would like to come back and support, however, the delivery of a more expensive tasting menu with less food did not match our expectations. I do not love writing even medium reviews, but this was a true let down. To begin, parking is ROUGH here, very rough. We came the actual night of my birthday, and they sat us outside, right next to the grill. Unfortunately it was too smokey for me, I mean we were rightttt next to the grill, so we asked to move inside which they honored. The inside doesn't really stand out to me. They had a singer and pianist, who were a little too loud and not quite the best vocals (I'm so sorry, I was really rooting for her but it was not quite on point which made the night even tougher). The thing that was the biggest let down - the food didn't stand out at all. I am so confused! This place has amazing reviews, so I was really really really looking forward to this, but my friends agreed, there was no dish that made me really want to come back. And Peruvian food is my favorite cuisine! My next favorite is mariscos, so this should be a 100% hit, which is why I chose it for my birthday! The chaufa was great, but then everything else was very middle of the road, and we did not like octopus olive dish, the olive gave it a weird flavor. Super disappointed in our experience tonight. My boyfriend and I had a reservation for 8pm which we arrived on time for and were sat immediately. We were then completely ignored by our waiter and staff and left unattended for 35 MINUTES. We left out of frustration when a table that arrived much later than us started getting their order taken. Our waiter hadn't even brought us water or checked in on us at all. This was our second time at the restaurant and we returned because we enjoyed the food but this experience left such a bad taste in our mouths. We left feeling disrespected and hungry. Excellent. -Fried halibut with cilantro sauce. Another perfectly textured fish with another incredible sauce. -Churro balls. Delicious caramel center. A nice way to end the meal. Service/Ambiance: A bit slow, but the lively atmosphere and lovely singer made the time fly anyway. It wasn't a big deal. It's a nice place to hang out and catch up with friends. Even walking in and sitting at the bar was lovely - we got a firsthand look at the delicious food being prepared, and got to scan for things that caught our attention (like the dessert). Incredible food and ambience! Highly recommend. A bit of a rough check in experience--it's very unclear where to connect with a host to let them know you have arrived, and there is just an area outside on the curb to congregate before you're called. Despite having a reservation we were not seated for 20-30 minutes which I found odd. The host had a weird attitude as if I was rushing him--I was only asking where to check in? We stood there for a while before being acknowledged. Once seated, we were back on course. The meal was absolutely fantastic. Innovative, interesting and varied flavors and textures. We ordered a couple of non alcoholic aguas frescas and they were so delicious! Not overpowering but very refreshing and a perfect reset between courses. The guacamole was very interesting, unlike any guacamole I have had in the past, with tomatoes that were marinated beforehand. The pieces of fish were very generous, the dumplings were warm, crispy, and savory, and every bite had such interesting flavor and texture combinations. The pasta course was so tender and the steak course was filling and satisfying. Wow! A delightful experience they served on Valentine's Day. A true hidden gem just a few mins away from Dodgers stadium. There is a super cool mural outside the restaurant of Shoei Ohtani and a VE old school bus which added to the local a flare. Chef Ricardo Zárate and his team really put a lot of love and effort into the dishes. From the playing and presentation, a true 5 star dinner. They even had live music to set the tone. The menu was a preset 5 course meal and every dish from start to finish was impressive. I will definitely be back to try their full menu. This spot is such a gem -- bright, colorful, and totally laid back, but the food is seriously next level. The ceviche is as fresh as it gets -- tangy, citrusy, with just the right amount of heat. Every bite feels like a little vacation. We tried a few varieties and couldn't pick a favorite because they were all amazing. The portions are generous, the plating is beautiful without being fussy, and the staff is super friendly and clearly passionate about what they're serving. I really wanted to love this place because the food was actually very fresh and tasty. In fact, I'd probably come back for takeout. Unfortunately, the dining experience was disappointing from start to finish. Since we didn't have reservations, we were seated outside, which was fine, but the service quickly went downhill. Our waiter forgot what beer I ordered and brought me two different beers before finally getting it right. My wife ordered a Coke that never arrived at all. The timing of the food made no sense either. We placed our order and then watched another couple who arrived 10-15 minutes after us receive their ceviche before we got ours. It left us wondering how orders were being handled. The biggest issue, however, was with the skewers. One piece of chicken on our skewer was visibly raw and completely inedible. To make matters worse, the guy cooking the skewers was standing right behind us eating from another skewer while simultaneously tending the food on the grill. I never saw him wash his hands afterward. Watching someone eat while handling customers' food is incredibly unsanitary and unacceptable. read more

We loved lunch at Hummingbird so much, we came back for a weeknight dinner to try their regular menu! We had a Thursday reservation at 6 PM for 4. We ordered the Ragu de Costilla, Striped Bass Ceviche, Roasted Miso Cod, Nikkei Hand Roll (Scallop), Scallops' Parmesan, Yellowtail Ceviche Tostada, and Hanger Steak. The ragu was a standout with its flavorful, spicy aji verde sauce. The yellowtail ceviche tostada was so fresh and so well-balanced. I also liked the hand roll for something lighter. The Scallops' Parmesan was clearly made with care, but the cheese and scallops pairing just didn't quite land for me. A fun surprise this visit was their new outdoor seating area set inside a hollowed out VW van, a charming and playful addition to the space. Worth noting, the bill lists both a cash and non-cash total, with the non-cash price about 3.5% higher. While dinner was nice, brunch is where Hummingbird really shines for me so I'll be saving my next visit for another weekend! read more

I attended the PromPeru tourism event dinner to promote travel to Peru. We started off with the famous Pisco Sour cocktail drink which was really good but too bad they only served us a small drink, but it packed a punch. We had the tasting menu of small bites but it was a lot of food. The menu was unique in many ways as I haven't had these same dishes at other Peruvian restaurants. The one item that shined the most for us was the Ragu de Costilla which was house made pasta with braised short ribs. I went in hungry and I left stuffed. CONS: The drinks were served in plastic cups but glass would be more appropriate for the cocktails. There were a design mixture of serving plates which was fine but some had big chip marks. The seats are comfortable but some of them should get reupholstered because some were torn. Also add wall hooks to place our jackets on. read more

We came in and sat at the bar in front of Chef Zarate. We got the happy hour chef's choice small omakase that was available combined with three skewers of anticuchos and a slice of pie for dessert. All of the food was very well sourced and executed. The dry aging on the fish was noticeable and the salmon roe in particular was very distinct in the texture, which was more al dente than I've ever experienced it. It was revelatory. Chef Zarate is rightfully noted for his talent and vision, and this place is a more casual environment than one can generally find cooking of this quality. From the outside you would never guess there is such a uniquely cozy setting inside its building. Its vibe is sweet, different and just what I luv . Now the food is absolutely tasty and flavorful. The miso cod was amazing, salty, sweet and savory. I cherished every single bite like it was my last meal. The salmon skin with trout roe salad was popping with every bite. Let's not forget about the guacamole tostada, it was so darn crunchy and with the buttery avocado on top is simply heaven and earth. Last BUT not least, the purple corn churro, OMG, it was a whole different dessert game. I originally wanted to try their famous apple pie with ice cream but they ran out. Parking is challenging to find, but when we went at around 5:15pm, we lucked out and found street parking. Don't be fooled by all the no-parking signs. We asked some locals who said nobody tickets you if it's a weekend. The place itself is small but cute. Our table area was a little cramped but the staff did everything to make us comfortable. They doted on us like anything! I really appreciated how patient they were with all our questions. The food is exquisite. It all looked like art. This is why I kept taking photos and videos. And it all tasted better than expected. They even gave us an extra dish as a thank you for choosing them for our celebration. I fell in love with the short rib pasta. Those noodles were made in-house and had the perfect level of chewiness. The grilled octopus was tender but crispy in some parts. The crispy ceviche was a revelation - crunchy and soft and sour and umami all at once. The risotto was chock-full of seafood. These folks don't cut corners - they want you full and your tastebuds delighted. We are totally coming back. Even if it was a drive from the Inland Empire, the food and staff were worth it. The other reviews made this place seem so much better than it actual is. The vibe of the place is extremely confusing, they're charging premium tapas dine-in prices with hole in the wall ambiance. The music was just on the side of being too loud where it's annoying. The parking is non-existent. Water and drinks are served in plastic cups and they served something worse than corn nuts for an appetizer. We ordered two hand rolls, yellowtail ceviche, sea bass ceviche, and a jumbo prawn thing. The nori in the handroll was soft and soggy and hard to bite through. Yellowtail ceviche just didn't have a bright fresh flavor. Sea bass ceviche was okay but they put more of those corn nuts in it and it just ruined the texture and experience having to eat around it. The jumbo prawn came with only 1 prawn cut in half and the texture was flat and soggy. The portions were extremely small and not at all shareable, they claim it's meant to be shared but it's literally the size of a taco bell soft taco. Had the entire meal been around $30-$35 it would have been fine but it was more than double that. Needless to say, do not make my mistake and save your money and go somewhere better unless for some reason you really enjoy overpriced ceviche and burning a hole in your wallet. You literally could walk across the street to Tacos Mexico on taco Tuesday and gotten 55 tacos for what we paid to eat here. read more

6 pm rez on a Saturday night. As most have mentioned, parking is uniquely frustrating. No lot, or extremely minimal. No valet. Street parking is scarce. Make sure to allow plenty of extra time to drive around and around to find a space. Note: some meters open across the wide street at 6 pm. Ambience is cool, I could be in another country, curated but naturally so. Beat up chairs, disco ball, loud'ish upbeat music, plenty of color. FUN. Menu on the table relatively short and easy to navigate. Ceviches, small plates (just 2), hand rolls, and hot. Everything we had was beyond delicious: yellowtail ceviche tostada, miso cod tostada, crab hand roll, salmon hand roll and the cooked octopus with potatoes and chorizo. The raw dishes were very fresh, the crab hand roll was perfectly light and the octopus was tender and charred. I probably wouldn't order the salmon hand roll again and wish the octopus dish had a little more octopus and a little less potato. Service was friendly and timely. There is no alcohol offered. Not sure about BYOB but I think I saw the ladies behind us bring their own bottle. SMART. I would definitely go again to try more of the dishes but would go during the week and earlier to see if the parking situation improves. More info needed. read more

I don't know why these trends have started recently but I find they really offensive as a customer. Also, the music was too loud. Parking and the traffic at this intersection is usually busy but metered parking is free after 7 or 8. My husband and I had a reservation at 7:30 but arrived at 7, and they were able to seat us swiftly. Although they were very busy for a Thursday night, the servers were quite attentive and the since we sat at the bar, the chef even explained us each dish that we were eating. Our favorites were the scallop ceviche, crispy shrimp dumplings (make sure you eat it with the leaf!), and the risotto (the chef recommended it!). Also the purple corn iced tea is incredible! We tried the: yellowtail ceviche tostada, scallops aguachile, shrimp dumplings, salmon hand roll, tuna hand roll, scallop hand roll, octopus and risotto The plates are smaller portions but easy to share, so if you come with 2+ people that's perfect! Great spot for date night or catching to with a friend. The standouts were the scallop aguachile, shrimp dumplings, and risotto. These dishes all had a unique flavor and texture making them super impressionable. Service was friendly and the dishes came out quickly and at different intervals. If you have room for the dessert -- definitely try the picarones beignets! The only thing I have to knock a star for is the octopus had maybe 5-6 small pieces and some of the pieces were extremely charred, but the chorizo mousse made up for it. The food and the service was good. The location is on the corner of 2 or 3 busy street. Is street parking in a resident area, if you Lucky to located a parking space. The ambiance was a like a hole in the wall w a disco ball in the middle of the room. The price doesn't match the quality or quantity of the food.
