I dont know what it is about it, but i was raised on The Green Olive's hummus and Marketplace and I just do not like this one. It has like a pickle flavor if that makes sense, but it DOESNT make sense for hummus to taste like pickles!! Crunchy lettuce, crispy tomato red tomato, juicy cucumber, and the chicken was cooked perfectly, and the dressing was the right Mediterranean dressing!. As far as Mediterranean chains go, Hummus Factory isn't bad, but it doesn't quite get it rught either. Highlights: 1. The Chicken: juicy and flavorful, with enough seasoning and not overdone. 2. The salad: nice and tangy! Lowlights: 1. The gyro meat: very bland and the texture what rubbery. Did not care for it one bit :/ 2. The beef kabob: tougher than I'd like it to be (when I asked for it to be cooked medium) I actually didn't mind the Hummus here, but it's in no way my favorite. This place is located in a shopping center in Downey with plenty of parking available. As I walked in there were plenty of tables available for you to sit at, but I decided to take my food to go. They even had small tables for the little kids which was cute. As I approached the register to place my order, the lady behind the register told me to hold on. After 5 minutes, she apologized and asked if i already had an order to go placed. She walked away once more and then came back a few minutes later ready to take down my order. There was a sign near the register that said "Brown Rice was an additional ($.75)". I ordered mine with brown rice and the cashier didn't tell me that it was an additional $.75. If people aren't paying attention to the sign that's at the register then they really wouldn't know they are being charged an additional $.75. I ordered the Gyro Beef Plate ($12.75) served with hummus, rice, salad & pita bread. The salsa bar that they had wasn't filled which was a bit disappointing and had very little left on there. What did blow me away was that i was being handed my food as soon as I sat down after getting a few salsas. Even though it took forever to get my food they do have really good food here. I wanted something healthy, so while my kids ordered at the burger joint next door I came in to The Hummus Factory! Located across the street from Portos, near the corner! Hummus Factory brings a nice change to the same old everyday choices. Burgers, chicken bowls and noodles. I walked in and was greeted by the nice lady working here, she helped me out with the menu. There wasn't a choice on the menu for a Beef and Chicken plate but she said they could make it any way I would like it! That was pretty awesome of her! Okay, so I placed my order and waited about ten minutes! Meanwhile, I got some dipping sauces, and other condiments! Very happy with my meal choice I made this day! The beef wasn't difficult to chew and the chicken was super soft and moist! It's a lot of food for $15 dollars! This is our first time coming to the Hummus Factory, we enjoy eating Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. It's a nice restaurant and everything is clean when we walk in the restaurant. We look at the menu to see what looks good to eat my wife saw one of her favorite meal the falafel wrap combo it comes with fries but she requested Greek fries instead of regular fries. Found this place on yelp. Food was o.k. Not great and not terrible. Portions were very small. The chicken was a tad on the dry side. Pay attention to your receipt!. We ordered a small lentil soup and was charged for both the small and large both. When I looked at my receipt and brought it to the attention on the associate he refunded my money and said he had to re charge me. When he did, it rang up both again. He said it was a glitch in the new computer system. Sorry bud but that isn't my issue. We ended up having to not get the soup because he couldn't figure out how to charge me for just the small one. I love good food, and this spot has it. I have always been loyal to the Green Olive on Lakewood and Gallatin but this spot is real good and the portions are large enough for sharing. Let's start with what's most important - THE FOOD. And really, there's only one word needed. Delicious! My typical order is a protein plate w/ chicken, beef & gyro, white rice & original humus. It comes with a cucumber/tomato salad with a lemony vinaigrette & 2 types of pita - white & wheat. I am in love with their garlic & tzatziki sauces. No seriously, in love. They are likely two of the most amazing tasting sauces I have ever had... I could, would and have put them on almost everything. Regarding customer services...eh, let's just say they leave some things left to be desired. My last experience, I requested extra sauce only to find 2 in my bag. (I'm too trusting, I should have checked before leaving) When I called upon arriving home, just to ask what happened, the woman I spoke with said kitchen just didn't give her the prepped sauces this morning - Sorry. Umm...so that must mean her legs & arms are broken rendering her helpless to walk back to the kitchen herself? Even just asking the kitchen to give her a few more was just too much, apparently. I have been eating here, as work allows, a couple of times a month for almost 2 years, and it never disappoints. Fresh salad: lettuce, cucumbers & tomatoes. The chicken is amazing. Just cooked to perfection. Delicious to bite into. No heavy seasoning or sauces. Tender and succulent (I know! Chicken, really!). Today the chicken plate is on sale for $10. It is a lot of chicken, plus hummus (so good, even if chick peas aren't your first choice---you should try it!), a salad & rice. I usually get all salad, which they are happy to do, but their rice is perfect too: Light, fluffy, tasty, delicate. The chicken is served with 'garlic sauce'. After eating this, I had to learn to make it at home. (It's oil, garlic & your blender...and keeps for weeks in the fridge). The meal comes with a light and a dark pita/flat bread. They have another meat (my favorite), called Lula. It is chopped beef (think hamburger slooooow roasted). You know how at some places you get that meat that has gristle, fat, and terribly inedible pieces? That has never been served to me at Hummus Factory...all the meat is excellent. Maybe they have an inside track to 5 star meat? This place has real plates & forks and the order taker, brings your food out to you. If something is missing, or you have a question, ask. The staff will answer. Today it was Silen. She is efficient and never too rushed. Hummus Factory has a serve yourself sauce area, but they are out of yogurt dip (and spicy yogurt dip), a huge disappointment. Although the meat is always so good, I do love the sauces. Silen said it was because they were closed for New Years. This is the only time I have not had their delicious yogurt dips. She will let you know if they can do something like no rice, double salad; what the different sauces are; suggestions for what you might like. A restaurant requires so much to make a meal really good: quality ingredients, cooked well with good recipes; insightful staff that go that extra mile and keep things clean and accessible; fair prices and an extensive menu. This place does it all...very well. Their drinks are limited to Pepsi products, but they'll give you a cup for water. They have bottled beers, like Modela & Corona, and plain old ice tea, which is good. There is television and music on, and everyone sits in one room together, but it has never seemed noisy (maybe because I'm mesmerized with the taste of the food!). They have a 'sister' restaurant, Mexican food, 'Pachanga' and you can purchase from that menu as well. There is a clean bathroom and outside seating too. There is a large parking lot, but some of the spots are a little tight. away from the driveways which can make backing out challenging. There is a lot of food and I always expect to take some home, but I can't stop enjoying this food until my plate is empty! The prices are good (and sometimes there's a special and the prices are excellent). The staff is quick, but not rushed, efficient and they really care to make your meal meet your expectations. The food taste is top notch. There is a good selection, including great salads, bowls and wraps. I have eaten home made Egyptian food and this is really close to that taste...I'm really comfortable bringing friends and family to try this amazing food and each time we've been thrilled. The Hummus Factory is relatively new to Downey. Being a huge fan of middle eastern/Mediterranean food, I've been wanting to try this place. I felt the menu was pretty basic and uncomplicated. I chose the appetizer combo for the decent price of $9.99 . The interior of The Hummus Factory is clean and maintained. It's large and roomy, friendly service. It's actually thriving and that makes me happy. We need more variety in Downey. The plate was a beauty to look at. Great presentation! There's nothing like eating food that doesn't look thrown carelessly. The hummus was decent, the baba ganoush was too, falafel was warm and surprisingly moist. I felt the taboule could have been chopped more finely and maybe moister. The food itself was ok. I'm a bit spoiled as far as authentic Mediterranean food since my best friends mom is middle eastern and is a former chef. Her food is amazing and holds the bar very high when it comes to this type of food. I can't complain about anything regarding The Hummus Factory. The interior felt a little too modern for my taste, kinda like a Chipotle style. There's nothing with that, I just felt it didn't mesh well. Service was great. I went to the Hummus Factory on a Wednesday at around 1:20 p.m. Line was not terribly long. The dining area was maybe 50% full. I probably stood in line for 5 minutes, but there were some pretty indecisive people in front of me. Asking all kinds of questions... So by the time I ordered and received my food to go, about 12 minutes had went by. I ordered the chicken plate (kabobs with large pieces of chicken) and an unsweetened tea ($1.75). I honestly thought the chicken plate at $10.50 was a bit steep, but it's a hefty meal. I had leftovers for the next lunch day. It came with the original hummus (mashed garbanzo beans mixed with tahini sauce, garlic and lemon juice), white rice (I'm pretty sure it was long-grain), and salad. My chicken kabobs were slightly on the charred side, but still juicy. Not too dry. The white rice was cooked fine. The salad does have quite a bit of dressing, but I do not shy away from intense flavors. The hummus was just okay. I'm so glad that they served it with 2 regular pitas and 2 wheat pitas. At least that's how many I got. Maybe that was an error. Ha! Now, are you ready for the intense garlic sauce? Oh yea, you'll have garlic breath. If you have good gum, that problem can be solved. Otherwise just dab your chicken in it a little and enjoy! I gave four starts because the service was very nice and the place was well-kept... and it was a lot of food (at least to me). Came here with a groupon deal. Upon walking in, place was spacious and clean. Cashier was nice and full of smiles, thank you. We got the chicken kabob plates. Compared to other Mediterranean places, this place give you a descent amount of chicken which I love. It was enough for me to split to 2 mini meals. The Garlic aioli was meh. Taste like plain whipped butter with barely any garlic taste to it. But their greek salad was delicious!! Very bold in flavors of lemon, vinegar, spices and and garlic! I can eat a whole bowl of just this alone with their chicken on top for a low carb version. Super yummy and healthy. This may be a tad too much vinegar/lime juice for some (so request for dressing on the side if this is you). Their chicken has a different spice from ones I've had. Reminds we of a mild taco seasoning added to it but thats just me. Tender but I had better. Hummus was generic. Good but nothing super special. Love that they have a condiments table with tzaziki sauce, flavored parsley,cilantro with sumac powder you can get etc you can get. Most or so far any I've been to, don't have this so this is a plus! I tried this place for the first time since I was in the area shopping. The parking situation can be a bit hectic since it does share a lot with many food eateries in the plaza, but it is doable with a little bit of patience. The restaurant is kept clean and the service provided by the cashier was great. He even told me I can sign up for rewards and get a free drink with my chicken bowl purchase today ($2.50 value). The condiment station was small but kept clean. The drink fountain had regular fountain drinks but also self brewed unsweet tea and passion fruit tea on the side. I really enjoyed the unsweet passion fruit tea. When my to-go order was ready, the cashier brought my order to the table I was waiting at and gave me a quick breakdown of which sauce was for what item. I ordered the chicken bowl with steamed veggies instead of the salad. He informed me the white butter looking one was garlic for the chicken and the oily, yellow sauce was for my steamed veggies. He also included a $2 off my next visit with the to go bag. The presentation of the food looked nice and included two pita breads. The marinade/color presentation of the chicken skewer looked good but as another yelp user had mentioned already, it was a bit dry. The hummus was delicious and the steamed veggies tasted just fine without any of the sauce it came with. To be honest, I would not even know how to describe what that veggie sauce tasted like (just not very appetizing). The rice was white and came in a large portion size ( I was not able to finish it).
