Chicken wasnt super juicy but not dry either so it was ok, the beef kabob was different as it seemed to be dipped in a sauce. The salad is a bowl full of lettuce and cucumber slices and sprinkled with some herbs ... for $15? I could buy all theses ingredients and eat the same salad for a week for that price. The falafel was dry and flavorless. I wouldn't order falafel from here. The gyro plate was at least more flavorful but again, for the price, not worth it. So I've been here multiple times and this is what I've gathered from my experiences. 1) the portion sizes are big enough for two people to eat and be full 2) the chicken tends to be on the drier side which is great if you like chicken that way but I personally don't. 3) the hummus has great flavor along side their pita bread 4) the salads are mediocre because it's mainly romaine lettuce hummus and protein of choice With all this being said It's definitely a great place to get the most for your money. I love Mediterranean food and this is the closest spot near work that could actually fulfill that satisfaction whenever I forget to pack lunch. Wend who is the waitress/cashier/hostess was so nice and helpful with our questions. She suggested the sampler plate, saying "it will save you some money" which is very nice but I have a 10 and 15 year old boys so the extra side/appetizer dishes were so me and my wife could have some. Nevertheless, I made it in and was able to get into The Hummus Factory. I walked in and the line to order was a few people deep and tables were filled so I decided to get my order to go. I decided on the chicken kabob plate ($10.50). This plate comes with rice, salad, and hummus. My order was up really quickly and I was on my merry way. The chicken was marinated well and it was juicy and tender. I like the fact that it came with the garlic sauce, opposed to some other places charge you for it, but it is super garlicky and you may need a good brushing and mouthwash afterwards! The rice was cooked perfectly but the salad was drenched with too much dressing. The hummus was average although I expected more since it is called The Hummus Factory. I guess I'd have to try some of the other hummuses they have in order to get more outta The Hummus Factory. I also wish they would give more pita bread but it is what it is. Would I come back? Parking is now much like an Easter egg hunt around this area. I love how Downey has more restaurants and stores now but traffic and parking seriously suck along Firestone Blvd. Protein Plate (4 stars) - Comes with 3 choices of meat and guess what? They only have three choices on the drop down box. Yay! This is served with salad, hummus, and rice. The serving is really huge. The chicken and beef tasted pretty good; well seasoned. I like the chicken more than the beef. The jasmine rice was fluffy and great with the meats. The lula meat, however, failed to deliver. It just tasted bland and weird. Hummus (2 stars) - The protein meal came with hummus. I'm doing a separate rating for this one since the place is named after this dish. Unfortunately, the ones I can buy from Fresh and Easy tastes way better. Not a good way to represent the name of your business. Gyro (Beef) wrap (1 star) - Not looking good, THF. You see, this dish looked so good. Smelled so good. I took pics and admired the whole thing. Then I made the mistake of biting into it. Too. Much. Salt. So, yeah, I had a big pile of meat inside the pita bread. I loved the serving size considering I paid $7.75 for this plus a huge serving of fries. But I prefer quality over quantity. I didn't want to throw it away so I dumped 66% of the meat out, placed lettuce on top of it and attempted to enjoy my food. Not good. Not good at all. Grape Leaves (4 stars) - I liked this better than the wrap. Order total: $28.33 Too expensive for mediocre food. Ooops. I don't want to forget about the service. I was inside for a total of about 1 minute. The guy was friendly and nice. Absolutely love this place! The food is amazingly fresh and good. My favorite plate is the protein plate, which comes with a choice of three different meats. Their gyro beef is juicy and really tasteful. The chicken is nice and tender. The only protein side I was somewhat disappointed was the falafel. It lacked flavor and tang. But the hummus and rice were pretty delicious. However, they are pretty stingy with their pita bread (I only got one pita bread cut in to four pieces). The ambience is very relaxing. I pay over $20 for a single plate whenever I order and used to always request an extra cucumber sauce with no problem. For a place named 'The Hummus Factory' you would think the hummus would and/or should be spectacular. It was good, but not spectacular. Kabab Crush in Cerritos really has phenomenal hummus. The hummus at Hummus Factory wasn't quite creamy or flavorful enough to put it at a 5 star rating. Lupita was nice. She recommended various dishes. I told her I wanted to sample various meats, so she suggested the protein combo. I asked if the in-house lemonade is free refills. She said it's not free refills, but she would do it for me anyway. Cool. The lemonade tasted really fresh and invigorating. The decor was nice and the tables were clean. Porto's is right across the street. The Hummus Factory is located in the Downey Gateway along with Noodle World Jr. and Starfish Sushi (I've reviewed all three). It was Saturday night and there were only three other parties. While waiting for my food, the other parties left. I was alone in the restaurant. Somehow I always pick empty restaurants, lol. I don't mind though because I can get my food more quickly and enjoy a quiet environment. They bring out the bread first that comes with the protein combo - three individually wrapped pita breads (one regular, one dark brown I'm guessing is wheat or healthier?). You can use them however you like. Dip in the hummus, add ingredients from your meal to the inside, or simply enjoy on its own. Protein combo, chicken, beef and lula: This dish got me thinking: am I just becoming more spoiled and picky about kabobs? For me, nothing compares to Kabab Crush (Cerritos). (Incase you're wondering, no I have not tried Open Sesame or Raffis Place yet, but I want to.) I've had similar plates at Arya (Long Beach) and World Famous Grill (Bell). Lately none of these are stacking up to Kabab Crush. The chicken was okay; it had a hint of some good spices going on, but just a hint. Could've used more seasoning to have great flavor. The beef was good and tender, but I had to add table salt. The lula was just ok, which is strange being that it is their beef just ground up with spices supposedly. I was expecting the place to be crowded but thankfully, it was pretty empty. The restaurant is nice, spacious and clean. The salad and rice were bland, and the hummus was a big disappointment - especially considering their name. Your hummus should be the best if it's part of the name of your restaurant. Lebanese strikes again! I've quickly become a fan. This particular restaurant is more of a fast food type of place. I would suggest it as a lunch option or evening meal. The food reminds me of a Lebanese restaurant in Long Beach that is a favorite of mine. It was that good, at least for me and my girlfiend. The setting is calm and relaxed, and the restaurant is very spacious. They have a condiment bar which has things that will certainly go well with your meal. Overall, great casual Lebanese place.
