Salmon Dinner
Not T.

My fiancée and I are visiting from Tucson, and we loved it! The restaurant had a great western-esque, and was very cozy. The server was very friendly and attentive But most importantly, the food was great! I had the Fish Tacos (beer battered cod) and my fiancée had the Salmon. The Cod was very soft and creamy, and tasted delicious. He loved the Salmon which came with mash potatoes and a side salad. The owner was also very kind and stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our food.

Fish tacos

I ordered the Fish Tacos. Perfect cod with avocado and tomatoes, purple cabbage, and delicious crema! Best on the mountain! Our server was fast and observant . It was like he had skates on. Very professional. We sat in the bar area and enjoyed watching everything. Beautiful bar. Scott Waddell stopped to check on how dinner was. When I told him the fish tacos were the best I'd had, his eyes seemed to gleam and he replied that they were his wife's favorite. Wonderful experience.

Stopped in while in Show Low on a Girl's Trip for my birthday and WOW!!! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly staff, and the rib eye Medium Rare was so tender and juicy. I am now a FAN of The Hungry Buffalo!!! My BFF and I will be back next year and we can't wait to enjoy another memorable meal with you all!!!! I didn't get any pics of the food this time, but next time. See ya soon!!!

Outstanding Friday Fish Fry.

The Hungry Buffalo is an incredible restaurant. The owner, Scott Waddle, always makes sure that their customers are well taken care of. They have the best Prime Rib in the White Mountains. They have the best Friday Fish Fry in the White Mountains and they have the Best Pizza in the White Mountains. My wife and I love the place and are often there with friends!

Side salad

We eat there on 10/5/2024. It was Saturday night. The special for tonight was prime rib. I got the 16oz with a baked potato, mac & cheese and side salad. It was all very delicious. I found the 16 ounce to be a little bit more than I can handle so I brought the rest of it home. I would definitely recommend this place. Our service was excellent. Our waitress was very accommodating and very attempted the atmosphere. I just loved.

Dinner for a friend's birthday

This was not the worst but also not the best place I've ever been. We were here with a group for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere was nice with a ranch house style with wooden beams and buffalo sculptures. Service was hit and miss. It started great but turned fast. We ordered waters and calamari strips for an appetizer for $12. The calamari had a good crust though different from what I've usually had. It came out as a huge order making it worth the price. I did have to get up to get the attention of our server, who was in the back folding napkins (it appeared) and chatting with another server, to order wines. the seared scallops ($22) and scampi ($17). The menu said the scallops were seared but when we got them they came out in a plate of juice with tomatoes. My husband even double checked that they were seared when he ordered so why would they take a beautifully seared scallop and plop it in some buttery tomato sauce? We mentioned it to our server who replied " That's how we serve them in this restaurant." The servers reply took me by surprise as you should never argue with a customer. Well, if that's how they serve them, they need to put that in the menu. My order: Both the scampi and the side of broccolini were cold. They took them back and seconds later brought them back warm-must have used a microwave to reheat them. I even clarified when I ordered was in butter and garlic with lemon but the sauce had no garlic or seasoning of any kind. We asked for lemons so we doctored it up with salt, pepper and lemons. Others orders: A friend had the chicken fried steak who said it was good but it wasn't really hot either. The gravy was even already sheened over from the fat cooling. Someone else had the Ruben which was good and another said the steak was good also. The Hungry Buffalo is out of the way for us. I wouldn't make the drive to try it again although, I'm sure some menu items would be better than what we had. I wouldn't return to a place that I rated 3 stars and had to make the drive from town.

Outside

My first time in Show Low town, and I looked for restaurants near the hotel, and this one was 13 minutes away, I recommend that you check the times and better if you make a reservation, we called but we couldn't make a reservation, we went without a reservation and they put us in the waiting room for about 3-5 minutes, not bad at all. They gave us complimentary warm bread with butter and cinnamon! I just love it! The service was excellent (I can't remember the waitress's name sorry) but she was amazing! She recommended Burning Wagon, the first time I tried it and I was so good! my boyfriend ordered Ribeye with potato and onion rings, and the taste was just excellent! We were so full that we couldn't try the desserts, I loved the place, the atmosphere, the decoration, the service, if I'm back in town I will definitely go back to this restaurant.

Tasty jalapeno poppers
Kathy N.

We went to The Hungry Buffalo on a recommendation from the Show Low Chamber of Commerce and we're glad we stopped! Absolutely LOVE the decor - very western, very clean and comfortable. We were there for lunch on a weekday so it wasn't busy which allowed us time to take the whole place in, enjoy a drink and some good food but mostly to enjoy the company of our amazing server, Sara. We tried the jalapeno poppers and then split a plate of mac n cheese, burnt ends and a twice baked potato. The poppers were really good and on the spicy side, just the way I like 'em. My husband loved the mac n cheese (I'm not a connoisseur and could care less about mac n cheese) - said it was creamy and super cheesy. The twice baked potato was nothing special as it was more like a loaded baked potato....still good, but nothing special. I have to say that while the burnt ends TASTED good and we were served a plentiful amount of cubed ends, I was disappointed that there was absolutely no char to them. It was more like cubed brisket instead of burnt ends. We ordered them with BBQ sauce but when Sara mentioned they can be served with chimichurri, that's what I really wanted. She was nice enough to give me a small bit of chimichurri to dip some of the ends in and it was delicious! The bar area is sports themed with various football helmets and flags adorning the walls. NOTE TO THE OWNERS: Please put up a Raiders helmet!! Rrrraiiiideerrsss!! And remember that a lot of your clientele are from Phoenix AND Tucson so the big ASU flag should be matched with a UofA flag!

Nachos
LaNae R.

Not a place I would go back. Atmosphere would have been fun if it hadn't been so loud. Plan on not having a conversation unless you are yelling. Food was bland, no seasoning and the only spice was the salsa. Very disappointed since our hotel agent raves about the place. Nachos were served with a cold corn relish, very little chicken and loaded with lettuce. Not my cup of tea.

Great place for a steak in Show Low. Service was spot on. Could not have asked for a better experience on a cold night.

Good food, a little pricey, but good. The restaurant is really cute. It gets very crowded on the weekends, so make a reservation!

Our visit was on a Sunday evening so it wasn't too busy. Good thing considering how slow they were. 2 hours! Yeah, two hours! The place was filthy! The floor looked like it hadn't seen a mop since they first opened and our table was almost as bad! I ordered Top Sirloin & Shrimp, with a baked potato. Other than being cold and a "child's plate", the food was OK. Not great, just OK. 4 shrimp, a six ounce steak, and medium baked potato shouldn't cost $38.00! I can easily afford to take my family out anywhere, but this was really pathetic. I'd be embarrassed to serve that! Oh, my "salad" was iceberg lettuce that was already limp and turning brown with two bitter cherry tomatoes. I didn't know tomatoes could be bitter! We saw our waitress a total of three times. Once to begin taking our order, then to leave in the middle for some emergency elsewhere. About 30 minutes later, she returned with our drinks and had the nerve to ask... "Now, where were we?" No less than an hour later someone else showed up with our cold food. After about two hours I was able to flag down our "waitress" for the bill. That part was actually pretty quick. It's extremely rare when I leave a bad review. Especially at a restaurant. We go out quite often and see the abuse that service staff endure. I couldn't do their jobs so I have much respect for those who can. Having said that, I see this place in a death spiral. The current staff is killing it. It's too bad too. It has the potential to be great. Considering how long it has been there, it must have been good at some point. Unfortunately it seems those days are past. If you plan on visiting, make sure that your Tetnis shot is current and bring some hand sanitizer.

We were given our check with no rush to leave but the travel plans had just begun so it was perfect. On our way out we just missed a rush as there was a line out the door so our 9:30am arrival was fortunate and awesome though we had no idea it would be. I've made the Asian chicken wrap and twisted beef Philly my reliable go-tos--they nail that balance of fresh and hearty that keeps pulling me back. The morning totchos are a brilliant mess of everything breakfast should be, the chicken and waffle hits that sweet-savory note without trying too hard, and even their bagel with salmon comes out like they actually care about it. The vanilla matcha bubble tea deserves its own mention because it tastes like someone put thought into it rather than just dumping powder into a cup. Service here makes the food taste even better--attentive without hovering, friendly without being fake.
