Disappointed. We ordered the fried combo and a seafood taco. They were really busy and the person taking my order was not helpful. Response was everything is fresh and everything is good when I asked for a recommendation. Both of those were not true. What I liked were the fried oysters , deep fried halibut although it was slightly overcooked and a thin piece. The coleslaw and prawns were good too. I would go back to eat the oysters. Clam strips were cold and mushy. Calamari was nothing special and the seafood taco had imitation crab in it and a few clams. It's only $4.50 so I guess I paid for what I got. But they should list the crab as imitation as I was expecting fresh. The fried fish was given to us cold. Not sure what that was about since they were so busy. We told them where we were sitting but maybe they couldn't find us. Probably won't go back there again. read more

I ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl yesterday. The clam chowder was awful. I think it was full of oregano! It overpowered any clam flavor and was basically weird potato soup with buttered garlic bread! Different tastes for everyone, but personally we won't return. read more

Was looking forward to eating here as I've heard some great reviews. Got there at 7 last night and they were busy. Not unexpected especially since it seemed like everyone in Southern Oregon was there to get out of the triple digits heat that's been plaguing the state. The lady with short black hair told us it was an hour wait. Not unexpected either. So why the one star? Decided not to eat there...not because it was really busy or because of how long it was going to take to get the food but because of the cashier/waitress. Presentation is everything. There is a right way and a wrong way to address your current and potential customers. She didn't want us there and it showed. I'm hoping that she had worked all day and she was absolutely exhausted (I doubt it based on her interactions with others). Hoping that next time will be a better experience and that I can rate this place accordingly. read more

This place is AWESOME. I was staying in crescent city and wanted something right near the ocean for fresh seafood. Wife and I split a large bowl of chowder and a large fish and chips. My god was it good. The chowder was thick, creamy, with a slight hint of something special I could not identify. The bread bowl was so good and they buttered and lightly broiled the top and inside that they removed. It was to die for. The fish and chips were absolutely excellent. Crab cake was the color of a hockey puck. The hush puppies were so hard they could have substituted for marbles. I feel sick and polluted. This is an exquisite example of a fried seafood and chips dock cafe on the Oregon Coast. Being a denizen of coastal Oregon I believe I know of what I write. The fried fish which was very fresh and hand cut was great with a delightful breading that was so light that the seafood showed through. The calamari was also fresh, firm and flavorful. My husband said the oysters were"great". We shared a combo meal and more than enough for two rounded out with a bowl of delicious chowder full of clams, potatoes and onions in a chowder not too thick and not too thin. Perfect. So happy we found this small town gem on our drive down the coast. From the reviews my only regret is that I didn't try the crab melt. Love those if they are done right. The only down side is that the fries could have been a little more creative such as fresh hand cut. Or maybe frozen sweet potato. Good with fish. And as personal aside to the young man who was so negative about so much and who was going to stick with fish tacos in the future. I have two pieces of advice for you. First, don't stop at a dock side cafe that specializes in fried seafood and chips if that is not what you want to eat. And thank you very much but I don't need a young kid who has yet to move beyond the "Aren't I Great!" arrogance of youth to tell me what I should or should not include in my diet. My second suggestion is that you quiet your smart tongue for a few decades until you might have some wisdom between your ears. read more

2-3 tables were occupied, there were a few in line ahead of us waiting to order and two people waiting for their orders. We were told by the lady behind the counter that there was a 1.5 hour wait and, "it's like this every day that ends in 'y'". So we left. While visiting Brookings, we decided to try the Hungry Clam. We stood in line for 45 min and several apologies from the staff. I could see the cooks cranking out food and a full line of tickets. Having heard good reviews from friends who have eaten there; we waited it out. When we got to place our order, we were told it would be about an hour until we would get our food. Our total order was two orders of fish and chips, one order of halibut, chicken strips , crab and shrimp melt and two cups of chowder. the food arrived right at the one hour mark with both of the servers bringing our food. The staff that we interacted with was cheerful and gave the impression that inspite of the load, they were happy to be there. All of us in the group passed around what each other had ordered and to me, it was worth the wait. I personally didn't want to share my Crab and Shrimp melt. It was great! The fish and chips as well as the chowder were excellent. After having stood in food lines from the military to some of the greatest that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, I would say put your impatience aside, enjoy the company you are with and wait for some great food. read more

A-OK, but that's about it. Sits right up against the boardwalk on the harbor's edge. I've eaten here twice. Had a 2 piece fish and chips the first time, about $9.00 - pretty tasty, lots of fries. The second time I had 2 fish tacos and a cup of clam chowder, $13.00 - EHH. Not sure when cole slaw became part of a taco, but it was the least favorite part of meal. The chowder was - EHH - average at best. I guess because it's right on the harbor, I was expecting some stellar seafood experience, but that was not the case. The fried clams were really pretty good and I might go again, just probably not until there is a Covid vaccine. The staff were not wearing face coverings, nor were guests required to mask-up. My family and I are on a little mini vacation from Grant's Pass and as a family tradition we were going to go eat at the Chart Room in Crescent City. Unfortunately though it was closed. We looked around for places in Harbor, and Brookings, and we stumbled across this awesome little seafood diner in Harbor. The food was amazing!!!! We got soooooo much seafood for a family of 4 and it was under 50$!!! We were not disappointed in anyway. We got a couple of oyster shooters, and they were HUGE. Well worth the money. This is one of the BEST clam chowder I have ever eaten. Where did they get all the clams? Unfortunately, I never made it past the clam chowder to get to the other items. I doubt I will be able to review other items in the near future because I live in the SF bay area. If gas wasn't so expensive, I would travel the 380 miles every week just for the chowder. By far the best fish and chips I have ever had. Huge pieces of fresh juicy fish with a yummy tartar and cocktail sauce... it was delicious. Also had to try the clam chowder in the bowl. The chowder is awesome as well, very clammy so if you don't like the taste of clam you won't like this chowder but both hubby and I loved it. Had some left over and he ate it this morning... made a great breakfast. Service is top notch - quick and friendly. Atmosphere - Small and cozy, cute decor with shells hanging and local pictures on the wall. We are going back up to Oregon in July, definitely stopping here again. read more

I generally try to eat more than a couple things before I review a place, but the fish & chips is so depressing that it warrants mention. I ordered it with hush puppies, which are equally depressing. (Note that I got the regular fish, which is cod. I didn't get the halibut, because cod is a perfectly delicious fish when prepared well and the halibut is ridiculously expensive.) How about a brief list of the things that are wrong with them: - Too oily - Gummy fish - Incredibly bland - Expensive for the quality Ok, I get that running a restaurant is hard. Rent, spoilage, staff, food safety, and scads of other factors affect the price, quality, and consistency of food preparation. I get it. Plus, this is practically ocean-front property. But I got an ice cream cone at another establishment in the same plaza, and it was pretty reasonably priced. This lot can't be THAT expensive. The fried pickles were better, but not actually good. My son has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, though. It was easily the most appealing meal at the table. Lucky kid. Sorry, locals. Sorry, restauranteur. I went there 2 times last week and really enjoyed the clam chowder. It wasn't to thick and was pretty full of clams. Both times I went on off hours and it was really busy... so I guess they are a local favorite. As always prices for food are great in OR and the no sales tax is a big hit with me when you consider we are at 9.5% right now.... ehhh gads. While on a trip north from the Redwoods National park our destination was Brookings OR, we knew that by the time we got there it would possibly be to late to eat so I began calling places listed on the GPS unit to see how late they would be open, When we called the Hungry Clam and asked how late they would be open the girl on the phone replied "how far away are you?" I told her around 15 minutes away and she said, well we close at 8:00 but we will stay open for you and get you a table ready. This was great service! When we got there we ordered the Fish and Chips as well as the Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, Both where really really good! This restrant lived up to the reviews. Clam chowder was one of the best I have had. My husbands Halibit was worth the price I was not fast enough to get a taste but it was lightly breaded and the tarter sauce was wonderful. I had the crab cakes with my soup and they were different from any I have ad before. The crab was shreddend but what every they are using to season was very tasty a little bite to the seasoning. A hole in the wall that is worth a stop if you are traveling in the area. It was a bit crowed but we did not have to wait too long to get our food. Not impressed, but not horrible either. The clam chowder was really good, nothing exceptional but I would buy it again. We also ordered fried calamari. It was cut into thick, long strips instead of circles. It ended up being chewy and not very good. We also ordered burgers. The beef was a little dry and seemed cheap, the bun was like something I would get at the grocery store for cheap. The fries were good. Overall it was nothing special, if you're looking for good seafood go to Blue Water Cafe, for burgers Vista Pub is the best in town. I would, however, stop in here for clam chowder if I was craving it. As far as ambiance goes it is very cheap, which I am completely fine with. The chairs and tables have probably been there for 20 years, the decor is a really cheesy fishing/ocean theme. You order at the counter, get your own drinks and they bring the food to you. The two ladies that were there were friendly and polite, but they carried on a conversation among themselves and I had to interrupt them to order. read more
