My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim after a short trip to the mall. It's a cute concept, but not the cleanest environment (note the dirt near the vent near the ordering counter in attached lobby photo), and not the most welcoming either - they're using the glass paneling area surrounding the check out counter as storage for all their cups (also pictured), which means you really can't see anyone behind the counter when you first walk in to be properly greeted, or while making your drink. As a former barista at a popular chain (Starschmucks Coffee), this is a big no-no! The drinks, and boba were decent, and we appreciated the free fries you get with an order of 3 drinks. 4/5 in all because there's room for improvement around cleanliness, and a more welcoming environment. 5/5 for the drinks and fries (which come with varying levels of spice!) Was looking for a place in Northridge to get some work done and stopped by here around 8:45 pm with a friend. The place was packed with students working on their laptops and they all left around 9:30/10 pm. Drink 4/5 Ordered a jasmine rose milk tea blended with honey boba. I asked for the drink to not be watery. The drink was so frozen that I finished all the boba and it still hadn't even melted. I brought this up to the barista and she was kind enough to remake it. However, she shared that they're out of Jasmine tea so I requested for a brown sugar milk tea. Both drinks tasted "alright". The boba was sweet which was nice but neither drink was mind-blowing. Service 4/5 Like I mentioned before the barista was kind enough to remake me a drink. However, she seemed ALL over the place. She seemed overwhelmed and was constantly running from the register to the back even though there was another person working in the back. Ambiance 5/5 I'm giving 5/5 because they have outlets, free wifi, and nice booths to sit and get some work done. They also have a very clean bathroom. However, once the group of students left, a group of young adults came in who had bought food from other vendors (taco from across and another place) and they were LOUD! There were about 8-9 of them and then my friend and I in the entire store and we couldn't focus on our work anymore and had to leave. I'm fully aware that this is not a place to be working from AND I also don't think that their level of noise was appropriate for a public place! When this place was still pretty new, we've passed by it a few times and noticed it wasn't busy at all. We stopped by one time right when they opened and their lights were still off and door was still locked. We saw people in there, probably workers preparing, but after a good wait of about 15 min after they opened, they still didn't open. We tried to get their attention but were ignored and just didn't even bother and went somewhere else. We decided to give them another try since I noticed they had a Dalgona coffee Thai iced tea drink which was different and I needed my coffee for the day. It was good at first but got too overwhelming and I prefer the two as two separate drinks. Boba texture is great though and I like that! Drinks didn't take long to make at all but when we sat at their bar to wait for their drinks, the entire bar was super sticky which was actually pretty gross and a turn off. I'm always a little hesitant when it comes to new boba spots in the valley considering we have two solid joints that we love. We came across this joint on Yelp and by the end of the day, we stopped by to just give it a try. I always compare my boba joints based on one drink, Thai Tea with boba. It sounds simplistic, but it can really make or break a place for me. Sure enough, we picked up a Thai Tea and it's pretty good. I do love how they have non-dairy option, although I'm not a fan when restaurants starts to capitalize on "Organic". The normal sweetness is a bit sweet for my taste, but they do offer to lessen the sweetness. The boba is pretty well done. Not too soft, not too chewy, it's just right. I've lived in Koreatown since I was born, til I moved out to the San Fernando Valley when I was about 25 or 26. During those years, I went to pretty much every single boba shop in ktown- I Love Boba, Boba Time, Boba Bear, etc. After visiting out of town spots such as The Ice Bar, I realized I never had any truly good boba in Koreatown - whatever I ordered, too much flavor powder or whatever the drink called for, and the most important part: the boba itself wasn't always cooked right, nasty hard or rubbery stuff that a lot of non-boba shops have tried to sell. You know what I'm talking about - like a 24 hour donut shop with their picture menus on the window and added on BOBA as a new item or a Thai restaurant selling $6 rubber balls in Thai tea. Literally every single time I've gone to a spot that ISN'T specifically a boba shop, I threw that sh*t away and got a refund. Half the time they couldn't even get the amount of flavor powder right (I used to always order Taro slush, the flavor is purple Taro powder) and it would taste like an gritty, unmixed protein shake. Because of this, I've NEVER gotten boba again in the Valley or in Ktown (even though there's I Love Boba/Boba Time chains here) until I was in Northridge and saw THE ICE BAR was 0.2 miles away with good reviews and a lot of pictures. The interior is modern and clean, menu is very extensive but is very easy to read and choose what you want. I decided to go with their top seller, largest size cup. - Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Honey Boba ($7ish) (GET THIS!) I was kinda expecting the Valley special aka rubbery for no reason/chewy in a bad way drink but I was EXTREMELY HAPPY with it! They pour brown sugar down the sides of the cup then put Honey boba then the Milk Tea. I've never heard of Honey boba, the guy told me that it's basically regular boba that they coat/add extra sweetness to so there's some actual flavor instead of just a neutral chewing ball lmao The price was a dollar or so more expensive than what I've been used to but the cup size was slightly bigger and it was genuinely delicious so it was definitely worth the price. They have all different kinds of additions like jelly instead of boba. Like I said, their menu is extensive but they arranged each drink under the name so its not that confusing- plus the guy helping me answered all of my questions without a hint of annoyance. I wanted to try something new since I am always going to Bon Bon Tea House for my boba. I had been eyeing The Ice Bar for awhile and so we decided to give them a try. The space: The shop is really clean with very modern decor. My gf and I really appreciate the extra steps The Ice Bar takes to help customers feel extra safe during COVID by providing a towel dispenser at the front door to avoid touching the handle with your bare hand as well as a container of wet wipes on every table. The drinks: The drinks were not as good as we hoped they would be. We ordered a jasmine rose milk tea and a brown sugar organic milk tea. The rose milk tea was super bland with almost no rose or jasmine taste to it. I thought it was maybe made incorrectly so I asked the employee at the front if they could help us fix the drink. After explaining that the drink tasted bland, the employee was nice enough to remake the drink for me. Unfortunately the remake was like 200% sweet and was not drinkable. The brown sugar milk tea was okay. Not the best we've had but not the worst. Food: We also ordered the popcorn chicken with mild seasoning.
