    Smoothie

The smoothie was toxic and tasted like thick peanut butter and was extremely overpriced. Also very bitter and did offer any lower portion options. It also melted very fast. It also had a super thick consistency.

I decided to get a smoothy at shake smart it was very overpriced and when I received it after waiting for about 8-10 minutes. It looked very bad and when I tried it it was so bad I had way higher expectations on that drink to and it tasted so gross it was super think and I didn't even taste the banana and strawberry it tasted like fake peanut butter.

Strawberry fields shake (with strawberry, vanilla protein)

I love this place. It's an outdoor grab and go smoothie, acai bowl store. While it is a little more expensive than other food and drink places at CSUN, it is very much worth it I usually get the organic super-shake which has vanilla protein, organic superfood and peanut butter. I also get the strawberry fields which has strawberries and vanilla protein. Both of these are really good and you can also substitute regular milk for soy or almond (if available). I like how you can now go to the iPads just outside and order your drinks there so you can have time to fully look through the menu and take your time deciding what to get before paying at the cashier window. I also love how they recently added a canopy since there was little to no shade and sometimes it was too hot to stand in line or wait for drinks. These drinks are perfect after going to the gym or if its too hot ( it does get too hot in the valley around july - november).

    Blueberry, peanutbutter, banana, and protien

This place uses whey gold standard protein which is really good quality. Shakes are delicious but a little on the pricey side. My favorite is the cold coffee shake with a scoop protien! This place perfect for a quick healthy snack before class or after a good workout!

    Original acai bowl

Everything served here is amazing! The chocolate shake and the original acai bowls are my favorite. The staff here is always friendly and attentive. After an intsense exercise, or a fast bite before class, the food served here is definitely my go to option. The fruit is fresh and there are multiple options to customize your order.

Honestly... dry oats lol. Still yummy

This place is hit or miss. Smoothies are definitely on the sweeter side at times. Wraps are a hit, especially the turkey and sun dried tomato one. I ordered overnight oats and they look dry as hell. Definitely not how I expected them to look. They're still pretty good though. I wish they added more fruit, I got blueberries in it and they didn't really put too many. Staff is usually really nice so that's always appreciated.

Cold brew coffee smoothie with peanut butter (yum!) and original acai bowl (okay)

I ordered a cold brew shake ($4.50) with peanut butter and an original acai bowl ($6.50). The acai smoothie base itself was a bit watery and bland though not at all icy. By itself, it was pretty meh. The granola, seeds, and banana were the perfect amount on top though and they made the bowl more interesting. My friend got the P&B acai bowl. The smoothie base was much nicer tasting (peanut butter makes everything delicious), but it would be nice to have bananas on top rather than the chocolate chips. I enjoyed the cold brew shake a lot. Do note that it tastes much better with the peanut butter. My friend got it without the add-on, and it was a little more bitter and thin. My whole bill was $11.50. It was a light, refreshing breakfast. I was probably 70% full.

Great customer by Kurt will only come back coz of him.

The cafe is 2 floors with lots of seating, both upstairs and downstairs. Definitely a great spot to study, get some work done, or catch up with friends. I ordered the Matcha Earl Grey Latte and the Popcorn Chicken. My drink came out pretty fast, while the popcorn chicken took around 10 minutes. I loved the latte! The earl grey flavor was strong, so it was definitely on the sweeter side. The chicken was definitely different from the Taiwanese-style popcorn chicken I was expecting. The texture was more like mini chicken tenders or nuggets than the usual crispy, popcorn chicken. The chicken itself was juicy and had less breading. Not bad at all, just different from what I expected. Pricing is also not bad, especially for the portions. I parked in the back lot, but there's also free street parking. Overall, I really liked the space and would definitely come back to try more of their drinks!

Do not order their seasonal drink item Passionfruit mint lemonade, no lemon juice, no mint Nothing citrusy, not even passion fruit purée, really disappointed. Check customer uploaded pics before you order the drinks Please! Dont fall for their Instagram images. Doesn't match the actual drink ordered. Not coming back Many new cafe options in the valley

This review is long overdue…read more I've been a House Roots regular since they opened their SFV shop many years ago and frequent the bakery as well. This location is the newest (only about a year or so?) of the three. Each store has a similar and yet distinct style/focus. This shop is located on the ground level of an apartment/leasing space, so if you're not looking for it, it can be missed/mistaken. Parking at first glance also seems difficult but don't worry, there's plenty in the parking garage behind the shop/ below the apartment building. The shop itself is beautiful! Compared to the other two locations, this location is most spacious; There's outdoor seating as well and indoor seating. It's pretty family friendly and equally accommodating to students/working professionals who need a place to do some work. There's a grab and go section, for those who need a quick bite as well as some food items- pastries and burritos. Overall, the environment is pretty relaxed and chill. As far as drinks go, I've tried several- everything from the drip, pour overs, espresso shots, americanos, sweet lattes, and pictured, both matcha and einspanner dreams from the last time I came with my husband and parents. Pricing is fair but most importantly, all their drinks are good! The espresso is good consistently which in turn makes all their coffee drinks delicious. All the speciality drinks are not overly sweet and well balanced, unless requested. Specifically from the last visit, the vanilla cream on top of the einspanner/matcha dreams were to die for. My husband, who isn't a coffee drinker also mentioned how good the matcha was, even with almond milk (he's lactose). If you want to venture out/explore something out of the usual drip or americano, I recommend the einspanner or matcha dream drinks! Besides the good coffee, all the Houseroots locations are set apart by their hospitality, and this shop is unparalleled. Every time I've come to grab a cup on my way to visit my parents or for an afternoon pick me up, all the baristas have been welcoming and warm. Northridge is always a treat, can't wait to come back when in the area!

You can either order with the staff or order through the kiosk on the right side. You have an option to type on the text box if you need to change the milk to oat milk, for example. I always ask for just in case they do have oat milk so if you have any special requests, depending on how busy it is, might be better to talk to someone to order!!! The Tiger Tea was really delicious and was a good amount of sweet. The Mermaid drink was a fav from my group. I really liked the Milo and the Ube Milk teas. One thing to note: they open late--12:30 PM. Parking was easy, and there's a decent amount of seating inside. I happened to be the first customer of the day. Don't expect the warm, smiley Filipino hospitality right away--just head straight to the counter and place your order on the iPad. As for the halo-halo, it's definitely not your traditional version. It wasn't bad by any means, but it's quite different from the halo-halo I grew up with and the ones I enjoy whenever I visit Manila. If you're looking for a modern take on the classic dessert, you may appreciate it more than I did. Prices are pretty standard for Los Angeles, and they accept Apple Pay, which is always a plus.
