Baked Mac & Cheese Skillet (V,S), Side Hush Puppies

Solid little barbecue spot. Ended up with the Mac and cheese skillet with brisket, which was solid. Like the multiple sauce options. Honey butter with the hush puppies was more dessert than a side, but still good. Neveah was an attentive and great server. Only downside was the children crying and running around the restaurant, but can't knock the business for bad parenting.

In order, the food: my date ordered the pork rind appetizer and fries. I ordered the improper charcuterie board. According to the server, we received a smaller than normal order of pork rinds. Which wasn't that big of a deal because it literally looked like they opened the bag of gas station pork rinds and poured them onto a tray with seasoning. Fries were brought out later, but they were cold. The charcuterie board was good for quantity, but my mouth quickly got tired of the flavors. Everything seemed crazier than it needed to be, and none of the sauces really stood out. In fact, all of them were sweeter than I had expected. Oh yeah, when I ordered a Bud Light with a glass, the glass was dirty. So the food was definitely an under achieving moment. Next, the server was actually nice and the ambience was great. It's a smart looking establishment . But you don't go to a restaurant for the looks, you go for the food and in that regard, I was decidedly underwhelmed.

    Pork rolls 10/10

We really enjoyed Improper Pig! They serve BBQ with an Asian twist. We made a meal of the chow bao buns, mac & cheese, and pork rolls. By the time the nachos arrived, we were full! The pork rolls were absolutely delicious and the sauces that come with them really took the flavor up a notch. Bao buns aren't really my thing but they were really good too with the spicy hoisin sauce! The pulled pork was juicy and flavorful. The brisket was tender and but had a really smoky flavor that was a little too much for me. Next time we go, we will definitely order the pork rolls again, but I want to try more things on their menu.

Delicious! My family and I got a little bit of everything on the menu and we're not disappointed. The different sauces they have available were awesome! Pictured above is the Improper Charcuterie. They do not take reservations, but for a table of 6 we got right in at 5 pm!

This was fine as long as you like blackpepper and vinegar. I loved the warm pimento cheese. All the meat was very dark. The sides were all decent.

Reason why staff made a 6 year old cry.

I am a Fort Mill local and often take my kids to this restaurant for quality family time. Over the years, we've never had any issues; the service and food have always been great. However, today was different. The server and manager were rude, making my 6-year-old cry over playing with a small plastic pumpkin decoration. They claimed they had warned us, but we never heard it. They told my children not to touch the decorations and disciplined them in front of me, saying, "since your father is not telling you... (I will)," which I found completely inappropriate. I questioned why this was a big deal in a family-friendly restaurant since my child wasn't causing any disturbance. The manager, DARIAN GREENE, made rude comments after I complained about our treatment. When I expressed my concerns, she offered to cover the bill to "help the sour taste in your mouth." - very rude! As we were leaving, they started filming and taking pictures of us as if we were criminals. Another person claiming to be the manager (the cook) walked out of the kitchen defending the staff's behavior and questioned my parenting skills over a simple Halloween ornament. I wanted a logical explanation for this treatment. It was a bizarre experience, and I can't understand how any business can afford to treat customers like this. I hope the owner addresses this issue and that the staff apologizes to my child. Despite this incident, I have no complaints about the food or atmosphere. If I were the owner, I'd want to know about employees ruining my business.

Very impressed with food, service and atmosphere. Brisket was amazing. Mac and cheese very flavorful. Slaw was average .

Ran downtown for a quick lunch and the service was fast and friendly! You can't beat fresh food this quick!

The roasted chicken was some of the best I have had. BBQ was smoky and excellent! Get their Eastern NC sauce

Great place! Best lunch we have had in a while and we eat out a ton. Most definitely be back.

We came here for dinner one week night and was happy to find decent bbq. The interior of the restaurant is well lit in the main dining room, but we opted to sit at the bar which can seat up 8 people near the kitchen. The service was good as the bartender did a good job consistently checking on us. We started with the fried pork skins (chicharrones) which were surprisingly very delicious. They came out fresh and as we ordered with the bbq rub on the side. I never had blue cheese with my chicharrones but I have to say it is a great addition to the dish. For my main course I had the brisket sandwich which was OK my only complaint is I wish the meat was a little more tender and moist. Overall good food and ambiance, I plan to visit in the future and try out some of their happy hour specials.

I visited The Improper Pig on a Sunday at opening time. I was excited to experience it as I love bbq and they had great reviews and a visit from one of the food network shows. I loved the architecture and overall look of the older building which has been well maintained. The inside was clean and aesthetically pleasing. Our service was great and all the employees were friendly! Everything was great but the bbq was just a total miss for me. I enjoyed the Jalapeno grits and sausage link. However, the brisket, pulled pork and ribs were all very dry and had minimal flavor.

OK, I'll just say we had "da** fine" meals. Fresh, seasonal ingredients combined in some unique and surprising ways, beautifully prepared and so, so delicious. Just look at the photos of a selection of our dishes. This was well worth an update of my earlier review. First, Speckled Pear has removed the community seating and the prepared food, bakery and produce counters from my earlier visits and replaced them with true "restaurant" tables. The focus is now squarely on dining, with lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch service. And oh, there's still a wine bar and bottles are still available for purchase. In my humble view a significant positive step. Our servers were excellent, including helpfully explaining some of the wine options (my wife and sister-in-law ordered a flight). Still a fairly casual environment. Great acoustics- I hate echo chambers. We sat close to other guests but were able to easily talk among ourselves without hearing any extraneous neighbor conversations. Dare I say, Speckled Pear is now a {insert tire company name} star-quality dining experience. In Fort Mill! PS - It's a small restaurant which filled quickly and early on the weekday we visited. We were also lucky enough to meet the chef who with his wife started the restaurant just about a year ago. They're just as warm as the rest of their team! Really looking forward to going back next time we're in Charlotte.

I almost ordered a second serving before realizing we still had four other dishes coming! The chicken and waffles definitely satisfied my craving--crispy, savory, and full of flavor. The mushroom ravioli was also outstanding. We finished with the stuffed calamari, which reminded me of something my mom used to make when I was younger. It wasn't Asian-inspired like hers, but the concept brought back some wonderful memories. To top it all off, I enjoyed a delicious dessert while feeling pleasantly tipsy from the evening.
