This was our first dinner at Speckled Pear and - wow! The phrase "gourmet dining" gets misused so much it's become meaningless. So how about, "epicurean"?, "gastronomic"? OK, I'll just say we had "da** fine" meals. Fresh, seasonal ingredients combined in some unique and surprising ways, beautifully prepared and so, so delicious. Just look at the photos of a selection of our dishes. This was well worth an update of my earlier review. First, Speckled Pear has removed the community seating and the prepared food, bakery and produce counters from my earlier visits and replaced them with true "restaurant" tables. The focus is now squarely on dining, with lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch service. And oh, there's still a wine bar and bottles are still available for purchase. In my humble view a significant positive step. Our servers were excellent, including helpfully explaining some of the wine options (my wife and sister-in-law ordered a flight). Still a fairly casual environment. Great acoustics- I hate echo chambers. We sat close to other guests but were able to easily talk among ourselves without hearing any extraneous neighbor conversations. Dare I say, Speckled Pear is now a {insert tire company name} star-quality dining experience. In Fort Mill! PS - It's a small restaurant which filled quickly and early on the weekday we visited. If you're a foodie, I'd highly recommend! They're a small business, and update their menu regularly based off what's in season which I love. Really unique bites to eat, with a thoughtful combination of flavors and ingredients. It's a small spot with intentional design choices and a communal table. Outside of the incredible food, the service really stood out! They have a really kind, and knowledgeable team. We were also lucky enough to meet the chef who with his wife started the restaurant just about a year ago. They're just as warm as the rest of their team! Finally made it to the Speckled Pear in Fort Mill. It was everything everyone stated, intimate space with beautiful and delicious chef created meals. We started with the caviar service (special occasion, I just retired!) and the bread service. The caviar was presented by the chef and we chatted about our favs and exactly where this round originated from. 10/10. For entrees my hubby had the roasted chicken and I opted for the shrimp. Both were excellent and very creative. Grapes on the chicken, it worked. To full for dessert but we definitely found a nice and nearby date night spot. read more

One of my favorite spots in Fort Mill! They have incredible food whether it's for lunch (pictured here) or for delicious dinners. I've been a number of times and had everything from their steak salad (to die for!), to chilly rainy days perfect for their soups and a sandwich to warm you up. Atmosphere is low key but still provides a more modern and elegant vibe. The staff is so lovely and friendly, with owner and chef often walking around to check in or even refill a water. They're knowledgeable about the wines they sell, and great pairing ideas. They do cool curated dinner and tasting events that I've been looking forward to participating in as well, so will be watching their website to join one of those soon. read more

What a charming place! Stopped by after a hike at Ann Springs Close Greenway park on a Saturday afternoon Tried : -yellow beet , Asian pear salad (added the chicken for extra protein ) -chopped Italian hoagie sandwich -chicken sandwich with sourdough bread Food is fresh & spectacular ! A friend and I stopped in for dinner about a month ago. It was right around graduation time and I understood the wait because we didn't have a reservation. The hostess offered us outdoor seating but we declined. I then noticed two seats at the bar. When I asked about the seats it suddenly became an issue with the restaurant being over capacity for the servers they had. Really. It's the bar so the bartender would have served us. In that moment I got the feeling we weren't welcome there. Seemed like a nice spot but because of the unwelcoming experience I will not be returning. read more

We held a surprise birthday party for my husband's 70th birthday . Robyn and the entire staff there could not have been more accommodating. Of course the food was spectacular. It's always exciting to welcome a local small business to Fort Mill. I love the eclectic atmosphere and the natural light. The opportunity for small businesses to offer their wares too. The flavors are amazing; however, the price to portion took it down a star. I think for the price of the sandwiches a side should be included. A few of my other favorite locally owned lunch spots nearby do include a good sized main with a side and I'll probably err to visiting those locations for price/portion for lunch. Where do I even begin?!?! I have had the Speckled Pear on my list for a year now (I live in Virginia) and I FINALLY got a chance to give it a try. First impression: 1000% worth traveling over state lines for. I got the privilege of attending Saturday brunch and Saturday dinner. Both experiences had their differences and similarities and have me counting down the days until I go back. Brunch: If you are looking for a spot to catch-up with a friend and enjoy a mimosa and the most divine French toast...this is the place to go! Because The Pear has been on my visit list for so long, I got a little bit of everything. My top food item was the avocado toast; the crust was toasted just right and it all melted in my mouth. My second favorite was the French toast - the fresh caramel on top was the perfect touch. There were no wrong choices for brunch on this day. Dinner: The cozy environment of the morning switched over so flawlessly. There is definitely a lot more people in the building at night, but it was still such a relaxing dining experience. To start we got a bread board and glasses of wine. I wasn't sure what I wanted but had an idea that I shared with the sommelier and he helped pick the perfect glass of wine to start my evening. Having a staff that was knowledgeable on the items was so helpful in making our decisions for dinner. For my main dish I got the short rib, and it was gone before I knew it. Every bite melted in my mouth, and I have been thinking about it ever since. Now...dessert. WOW! We got the salted caramel budino and blackberry cobbler with lavender ice cream. Both were the perfect combinations of savory and sweet to finish off the beautiful meal we had. Now for my favorite part of my visit(s): The owners came out while we were eating and when we finished to check on how our service was and introduce themselves/say hello again. I LOVE that they do this. It added such a personal touch to this Family-Owned dining experience both in the morning at brunch and in the evening at dinner. I went back to Speckled Pear with apprehension due to the lunch being great many times but the dinner lacking. Tonight the dinner was fantastic! I have been converted. This time, the short rib was so tender. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the Mediterranean inspired accompaniments made the dish memorable. Welcome to the neighborhood: The Speckled Pear Market I've been watching the social media posts about this new business locating in downtown Fort Mill in the space that was formerly GoodLife Organic Market. Owned and operated by locals, Mike & Robyn Bader, they hosted their soft opening today. I was welcomed and greeted by Robyn and her staff who give me a mini-tour and overview of of all their offerings. This is a Gourmet Food Market, they have prepared foods, wine by the bottle and a very nice selection of cheeses. They have a 'grab and go section' as well as a nice selection of low card, low sugar cold beverages. They have a 'starter' selection of wines as described by their Staff Alejandro. He is learning his market and audience and seems open to a selection of wines that fit a range of budgets. They also have a selection of chilled craft beers. I saw they also have some pasta options for those that are looking to cook. They also do custom charcuterie boards and catering as well. I selected a bottle of Mariella and Grace Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Puglia, Italy. I saw many options that would make great Christmas gifts, tis the season! I'm most excited about their future plans to have tapas and small plates. Robyn said they are about 2 weeks out from beginning that service where they will serve wine by the glass. You can sit at the large live edge wooden community table, at the bar or one of several 2 or 4 top tables. It's really nice to have various food options when you live in a small town like Fort Mill. This will fill a void that has been missing from the current foodscape. Though they are in 'soft opening' mode, I would highly recommend you do your part to stimulate the local economy and support this local owned and operated business. There is limited on site free parking but there is a FREE Municipal lot just two blocks away adjacent to the Bank of America. I was pleased to learn they offer a Vet & First Responder discount. read more

Wow! This place was delicious! Small portions so you can get a lot of small plates but make sure you watch how much you're spending. What we had for two people and we split each dish: 2 glasses of wine each, salmon Rillettes, beef carpaccio, wild mushroom gnocchi, sea scallops, creme catalana. Salmon Rillettes: there was toasted sour dough with a jar of salmon mousse with a cream cheese on top with caviar. DELICIOUS Beef carpaccio: this had some shavings of cheese with some garlicky croutons. Everything went perfectly together. YUM Gnocchi: really light! Little cloud puffs. Loved it. Scallops: not worth it. You got three scallops for $30 Creme catalana: this is a creme brûlée. I would have liked this a little thicker for custard. But it was tasty. Overall the servers were very nice but no one introduced themselves by name. I would recommend they start doing that. Keeps it more personal. The place is small and when it's packed, it's loud. We were fortunate enough to have the table in the back, which is private. Overall, our bill was about $170. read more

Hesitant to leave a review as I don't want to let too many people know about this gem. I was bummed to see the juice place close in this location because I loved it, but little did I know that it would be replaced by something even better. I have only gone twice for lunch so I cannot comment on the dinners although the menu looked fantastic. I have had a salad one time and a sandwich the other. Both were excellent and you could tell they were made from the highest quality ingredients. However, it was something I would have never ordered that was the best. When we walked in the owner greeted us at the door. I asked her what her favorite thing on the menu was that day and she said the sourdough soup. Well I had to try it and she wasn't joking. Both my wife and I loved it. We were practically licking the bowl. Note that their soups change and it's not available every day but if it is when you go there you have to give it a try. It will not disappoint. The Speckled Pear is a great addition to downtown Fort Mill and it's now my go to lunch spot. read more

I truly love this place. From the ambiance and wine to the amazing food it serves. I like the overall feeling of dining here and the food ain't bad . The owners are super nice and friendly. I have only one thing I would say could be better, I hope they start baking their own breads and such soon. I think this wouldn't them apart. I had amazing lunch the other day but took home 2 chocolate croissants that tasted a bit old, almost stale. Otherwise I've only ever had outstanding food there and would highly recommend a visit or two. There's a very large table in there so take your whole family or get a small table for 2 but whatever you do, don't pass this place up! read more

I love the tasteful, understated atmosphere. Due to the space design, the ambient music is a little loud so as the meal progressed the noise level became less than ideal. The chef/menu are top notch. I don't recommend sitting at the counter. It is uncomfortable, the service is iffy due to the server also being the 'bartender', and you are regularly being bumped by other guests during the meal due to tight quarters. All the meals are good. The Rillette was fantastic. The salad was fresh but the ends were browning (details). The Gnocci was off the chain. I was disappointed in the short ribs being too overly crusted on the outside and generally dry more like a pot roast (reheated) but the dish itself was a success with the corn salsa adding moisture. I think the ribs may be a one-off as I believe in this chef. Wine menu was fair, but the pours were inconsistent (we all know that means not in my favor :-)). I will try again at a table hoping that the Speckled Pear achieves its potential. I recommend people try it for themselves. A couple of small tweaks and I am hoping to change this to 5 stars soon. read more

My husband and I had brunch at The Speckled Pear and the food was exceptional. He had the loaded potatoes and I had the deep dish gruyere quiche along with mimosas. The flavors of each dish were well balanced and better than most brunch restaurants we've experienced. The service was great and the atmosphere was tasteful and innovative.
