my friend and I came here tuesday night and the hostess was also our waitress and was so accommodating! she really helped guide us through the menu and said that she even comes there to eat on her days off! Very impressive start. we ordered the kale salad, butternut squash ravioli and sausage rigatoni oh and ofc the complimentary SD bread with pepper spread & oil-- we thought every item we ordered was fab! The kale salad was rich with fresh ingredients, loved the crunch with the dressing ... please share your dressing ingredients for that cider vinaigrette... and the only caveat for me was the sausage was pretty heavy and I couldn't eat it all BUT the portion sizes are worth the pricing. Also, our waitress split our salad into two plates which was also so nice. really great service, so many menu options (I found it really hard to decide which is not a bad problem to have) and food was solid! would def recommend when visiting mystic!

Great place in Mystic, among a street with many other choices. The restaurant has a parking lot, is fairly modern and cozy inside. The bar area was a big hit on a Tuesday with a full crowd eating and drinking there. Several tables were full too. I attended on a business dinner, but it's certainly family oriented too. Service was good. We did wait a while for the bread, which comes out fresh. We also didn't have entree orders taken until after we started eating our appetizers. This could all be intended, so speak up if you're in more of a hurry. Their house Manhattan cocktail was good. Nice size pour and strong! Wine was great as well. All food was excellent too. The burrata appetizer was probably my last favorite as it only had half a burrata ball. Not much to share. The clams oreganata special was good - actual clams within each shell and bite...vs some places where you only taste breadcrumbs. The artichoke salad was excellent too. Really tasty! Cioppino was an amazingly flavorful spicy broth with seafood. If you like cioppino, get it here. The tomato fettuccine was nicely balanced with seafoods, including shelled lobster, though very creamy. If you're not into creamy sauces, get something else. Steaks were cooked to order, medium rare. Dessert was good too, but be aware that their affogato isn't a traditional one. They don't give you espresso to pour on top. They're just an espresso cream at the bottom, under ice cream. Overall, really nice place, experience and everyone was happy! Seafood lovers, meat lovers, and one vegetarian who raved about the roasted eggplant dish.

My boyfriend and I had our Valentine's Day dinner here last night; it was delicious. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived (we were early) so we went to the bar for a drink. The bartender was attentive and made us two delicious martinis. The place itself is very pretty and cozy; it's got an upbeat, swanky vibe. We were seated at a cozy, corner four top table which was nice and gave us extra room. For dinner we had the meatballs, baked clams, rigatoni with sausage and broccoli rabe and homemade tomato fettuccine with mussels, scallops and lobster. Phenomenal experience- will definitely be back. I took one star away because my wine glass was very small and I prefer a large glass when drinking red wine.

We had an incredible experience at this restaurant largely due to our wonderful server, Peggy. She provided excellent service, recommendations, took pics of our group, & anticipated our needs on a very busy Saturday night! The food & drinks were amazing! We had the whipped goat cheese, Caesar salad, polenta, seafood pasta, halibut and a delicious affogato. They were also able to make me a great pineapple mezcal margarita off menu. We look forward to returning!

I was expecting a lot for prices like these. The Arancini were 5 pieces the size of golf balls and the flavor was ok, not worth $16, out garlic bread with cheese ($16) was left out of our order, the penne vodka with sautéed chicken ($32) was dry and there were 5 small pieces of chicken, and the baked penne chicken Alfredo had broken sauce, full of grease and almost inedible...I threw out most of it. I expected so much more from this establishment. The parking lot was packed and parking just to get takeout was challenging, but the food and prices were amazingly disappointing. We may try their pizza to see if that is any better, but I would not recommend the pasta dishes. I can see charging g prices like that if the pasta was homemade, but even that is a stretch. 3 stars is generous

The decor is gorgeous, blending Mediterranean-inspired blue tiling with warm mustard seating and rustic wood accents. The lighting is soft and inviting, and the layout feels spacious yet intimate. It's a beautifully designed space that sets the perfect mood for a great meal. The bar area is beautiful and full of character! I love the mix of the rustic whitewashed wood front and the intricate tile work. The tiered ice display filled with Limoncello and fresh lemons adds such a fun, refreshing touch, and the giant floral centerpiece is stunning. It's a bright, lively spot that's perfect for grabbing a drink. If you prefer dining al fresco, there's a patio and the porch space has a fantastic atmosphere. It feels bright and cheerful thanks to the lively pink flower baskets and the bold blue outdoor furniture. Because the deck is fully covered, you get plenty of shade while still being right next to the walkway. It's a very cute, well-maintained exterior that adds to the overall appeal of the place. The service here is awesome! Our waitress was incredibly sweet and hospitable, and she completely understood that we were on a tight schedule with a bus tour. She did an amazing job of being attentive and accommodating without ever making us feel rushed. The food rolled out in perfectly timed layers, and she even offered to refresh our drinks before we could even ask. I initially thought the garlic bread was a bit pricey but was totally worth $12. The focaccia bread was nicely toasted and seasoned with herb butter and four cheese fonduta. Next was the fried calamari with cherry and banana peppers. The calamari was delicious, seasoned perfectly and was a combination of rings and tentacles. Those who enjoy banana peppers might enjoy that they are lightly fried too resemble the calamari, however I'm not the biggest fan and probably should have asked them to hold them. With them being breaded the same as the calamari is difficult to tell them a part so when your taste buds are gearing up for a bite of calamari and instead you bite into a pepper or can be slightly disappointing. For $19 I would prefer more calamari and less peppers. The salads are very good here too. The Roasted Garlic Caesar features a classic Caesar dressing enhanced with a bright hint of lemon and topped with crunchy breadcrumbs. I added salmon as my protein choice, which was cooked beautifully and paired perfectly with the savory, garlicky flavor profile of the salad. This made for a filling and flavorful meal. Tagliatelle - Outstanding homemade pasta and sauce. The tender, shredded short rib ragu is perfectly tossed with fresh noodles. It has an ideal noodle-to-sauce ratio and avoids being overly rich or heavy. A deeply comforting, cohesive dish topped beautifully with parmigiana. Also enjoyed the lobster roll which was served warm with butter on a perfectly toasted brioche bun, accompanied by a side of fries. The rich, melted butter beautifully complemented the sweet lobster meat, and the brioche added a wonderful touch of sweetness and crunch. Really glad that my bus tour stopped here. I'll definitely return and highly recommend!

We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

If I still lived in the area it would be one of our go-tos for pizza. Mike, our server, was attentive without hovering and quick with requests. We went early enough so we didn't have to wait but it did fill up quickly. The pizzas arrived in an average amount of time. Decor was, of course throwback with lots of nostalgic memorabilia adorning the walls. 80s music set the atmoshphere, faithful to the history. The pizza was great. Our rather large group of world travelers was impressed by the crust. It was cooked properly with light crispiness on the edges. I felt the flavors and combonations were well balanced. The sauce was not overwhelming like many pizza joints but flavorful. We opted for the Meatza Pizza, a pepperoni, and Yaiya's Secret. They were all very good. Usually I have a stand alone favorite- not this time. The Meatza was such that one could taste the individual flavors but as a very tasty medley. The Yaiya's was a pleasant surprise of a little sweet with a touch of heat. Even my daughter who seldom likes a "just cheese" pizza, found it out of the ordinary and really enjoyed it. The pepperoni was cooked the the way I like it, with that little bit of crispiness around the edges. For an extra touch, their own Mystic draft beer is a great refreshing pale ale. Definitely recommended.

As for the food, I think Mystic Pizza sometimes gets an unfair reputation. Is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. But it's definitely good .... you just have to order the right things. The seafood pizza was surprisingly delicious and one I'd happily order again. One thing I would skip, however, is the garlic knots. Unfortunately, they were so hard they were difficult to eat. The only other suggestion I'd make is to update some of the movie posters. Many have become sun-faded over the years, and replacing them would really brighten the space and enhance the nostalgic atmosphere. Overall, don't come expecting the greatest pizza of your life. I sure wish they hadn't because the lump crab dip was delicious but the replacement was spinach and artichoke dip. The artichokes were not blended they were chunks and it was not in a creamy sauce but dry with shredded Parmesan cheese over the top. It was awful. I didn't even eat it. I also ordered the crab cake which wasn't good. Last time I had the crab cake, it was made with chuncks of crabmeat. This time it was shredded crabmeat and a lot of breadcrumbs.
