a glass of beer on a wooden table

The Jack is a cozy restaurant with creative food and good service. We ordered from the "big" bowl menu. What's called big bowl is really not that big. It tends to be a little chintzy on the main ingredients, especially at its price point. Everything is extra, even the small cups of sauce. Good drinks and presentation, which I would mainly be back for.

Bocce

Service was good, Bocce was fun, food was horrible. I got the Bahn Mi, which was basically a half a cup of rice, 6 sliced cucumbers, shredded carrots and some pulled pork. The dish was supposed to have sriracha sauce and there was none. $18 of flavorless food, I felt ripped off. I would have given a 1 star but the bocce was fun and different and service was good. Go for drinks and to play, that's about it.

Egg rolls. Asked for them not to be cut. They taste different that way ;)

Walked to the Jack after checking out their page online. Their business hours were wrong but based on their Facebook page I noticed they were open for dinner so I went there with my two year old. Server seemed annoyed to see me, they had just opened. She wasn't friendly, borderline rude but the food was delicious. I think her name was Teagan but I can't remember. I haven't enjoyed hush puppies in awhile- these brought back great memories. Egg roll was decent- a little dry. Fried rice was superb- a humongous portion that could definitely feed a family of 5 or 6. Had Mexican street corn too which wasn't really anything like Mexican street corn or elotes but it was still yummy. They offer free games inside & have outdoor seating. Great menu- no kid's menu. What kinda basic restaurant doesn't offer a kids menu? Weird... I liked how their tacos come on corn tortillas... Overall will be back, just hope I have a different waitress.

The view right outside.

Such a quaint gastropub. The menu is Creative American tapas. The restaurant was full because of their unique menu.

I had the "Standard" with italian cold cuts and I could only eat half and saved the rest for later. My wife had the chili dog which she said was very good. The inside was cozy and rustic with a clear fisherman's vibe. My wife and I ate here for our 15th wedding anniversary while on vacation in Acadia. We started with the fisherman's chowder, which is probably the best chowder I've ever had. It wasn't too salty (which is almost unheard of) and came with tons of lobster and other seafood. We both devoured it. The only problem was trying to make sure that you didn't burn your mouth because it was so good you didn't want to wait to eat it. I got the tuna and green bean casserole while my wife got the pasta bolognese. Both were good, but the tuna really stood out. It was seared, sushi-grade, blackened tuna over chopped green beans that weren't in any way over-cooked with a small pea-shoot salad. The name didn't do the dish any justice. We also had a few decent local beers in cans, which both paired well and were yummy.

So first off; the view! Great view of a bay off the ocean. (If some guy with a big Jeep didn't park…read moreright in the way! That's me! ) After the view, come warm up to a cocktail with Jeff. I adore bourbon and "old fashions" to be specific. They have a great KnobCreek9 Old Fashioned. I highly suggest it but top end is their forte' so your imagination is your only holes barred. They are an open fire pizza joint but the apps are also amazing! Sometimes they have events like New Years and they had downstairs open for overflow (my first impression as upstairs was being renovated at the time). I loved it and their barkeeps are all characters and special. These folks are handcrafted with excellence. My friend Jeff!!! Cool guy - The pizza! I picked the mushroom pizza. It has great presentation and some niceties alongside. I'm gonna work my way through the menu. Come join Me! Blue Hill, Maine! Getting down in the Wintuh! !!! Magic Mushrooms is amazing, go try it!

Service lacked attention to detail, especially given how quiet the restaurant was. Glasses arrived spotty, flatware mismatched, and a $14 glass of wine smelled strongly of chlorine. No plates were offered for a shared appetizer, and there was no salt and pepper on the table--we had to ask for both. The food did not justify the price. The Caesar salad was far from authentic--soggy, overdressed, and heavy on vinegar. The steak had a significant amount of gristle, and the mushroom/beef gravy had the taste and texture of a commercial product rather than something house-made. Fries were overdone and served in a very small portion. Most concerning, all four of us experienced stomach discomfort and digestive distress within a short time after the meal. For what we paid, we expected much better. This visit was a major disappointment.

Location - Great thing about their location is there are plenty of places to kill time while waiting for your table - local shops or Waterville Creates. We were there on a Saturday and we arrived around 2:30 for an late lunch/early dinner. To our surprise, there was a 25 minute wait! It's a popular family restaurant as well. It's a lot bigger inside than it seems from the outside. When you walk in, there are mostly high tables and a long bar with seating. Walk past the bar and on the right is a dining area with a lot more tables. We had 2 kids and 4 adults and we had plenty of room at a center table. There were booths along the wall. Our server was so great. So patient, and kind. She was great. She checked in regularly, our drinks never went dry. The food was excellent. We had the food for take out during the pandemic and thought it was ok. Having it in the restaurant - HUGE difference. I got the cheese curd burger without the top bun. My nephew loved his chicken wings, my niece loved her mac and cheese. We all loved our burgers and my bro-in-law liked his reuben. I loved the fries, they seemed more the "chips" from the UK - which I loved. Parking - street or on the concourse below Main Street. We will definitely be back.
