Went to the Joint last night with several friends. The atmosphere was funky and relaxed. Prices were reasonable. Portions were good sized. Maybe it was just a good night, but I disagree with some of the previous negative reviews. I had the brisket sandwich, which was very good. I didn't care for the coleslaw. It was a bit too vinegary and spicy. A friend had the salad with pulled pork. It was a good size salad with a large amount of pulled pork. She said it was delicious. The short, rainy walk from JAMNOLA to The Joint was filled with creole homes, broken streets and exactly no one else ‍ It was beautiful but so quiet compared the French Quarter. Walking into The Joint we decided to sit at the bar and were promptly greeted by the so friendly bartender. He was so kind. Cheers to Monday morning hospitality. He made a delish tequila mule. I ordered the W with 2 sides. Ribs, brisket and pulled pork. Mac and cheese and slaw served with a piece of toast on a beautiful silver tray. Two sauces to choose from. A thinner vinegar/Carolina style and a thicker, sweeter syrup for flavor. Everything was delish! From getting the last order of the ribs, that were falling off the bone. To the tender pork and sliced brisket, the Mac and cheese was insane! And the slaw was filled with vinegar. I can taste it 900 miles away as I'm sitting in my bedroom, facing south looking into the city of Detroit. Lunch, last day in NoLa and we had to switch it up a little bit and have some of the best rated BBQ in town. Although the meat was perfectly cooked and very tasty, I was little bit disappointed with the barbecue sauce, they only had one barbecue sauce type and it felt like it was very watered down and super salty, after being in Austin, TX I was expecting this place to be as good or better when it comes to flavor and sauce varieties. On my recent trip to New Orleans, I visited The Joint for dinner. This was my 2nd visit to this BBQ restaurant located in the Bywater neighborhood. This time I ordered the salad topped with brisket. While I thought the pulled pork was extraordinary, the brisket was even better. The flavor profile was on point, with a moistness only found with an expert pit master. And, the meat was so tender that I never lifted my fork! The kitchen did not skimp on the amount of brisket on the salad, which made for an amazing entree. I almost forgot!! The salad was large enough to share! As an appetizer, I added an order of "burnt ends". Pretty quickly after we ordered, the food was delivered to the table, which was great because we were hungry from an evening full of live music listening. While we waited, my wife ordered a mango daiquiri, which was amazing!! On my first visit, I didn't have dessert, but THIS time, I made sure to leave space. I ordered a slice of key lime pie....WELL....it was incredible! I had a nicely sized slice, with a creamy, tart, yet sweet pie filling on a sturdy crust. It was so good, my wife had to stop me from ordering a to go slice. I have now been to The Joint twice and on both occasions, the food and service were excellent. I come back to The Joint every few years hoping to get the five-star experience that so many others apparently enjoy, but for me, it's just not quite there. I get the unmistakable, funky, Bywater vibe, surly service, and definitely appreciate the fact that they've been featured on Drive-Ins, Diners & Dives. Yes, the ribs are very good, with a perfect, smoky dry rub, which may be enough for some. I'm more of a brisket/burnt ends guy. Theirs are just a little too fatty for my taste. Yes, even the burnt ends, which shouldn't be fatty. The sides are just so-so. I've had much better baked beans at just about any other bbq joint in the south. The mac & cheese is mediocre. No complaints about the coleslaw. Decent corn muffins. Good cold beer. I'm really not a fan of their sauce. I'd describe it as a hybrid between the too vinegary stuff that you'll find in Tuscaloosa and the surgery sweet stuff that Mississippi is known for. It just lacks taste and identity, with no hint of spiciness, at all. I don't mind leaving smelling like smoke, but bottom-line is that the NOLA barbecue scene has evolved over the past several years, giving us many better options. read more

The meats were all perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful-- it was so hard to decide which was our favorite. The three of us ate until we were stuffed and still had some leftovers. We loveddddd all the sides, so delicious but fair warning: the cornbread is jalapeño flavor if that's not your jam. Make sure you eat there (there's seating outside) and use their bbq sauce provided. We also got the frozen daiquiris-- they had pink lemonade and margarita flavors. They weren't super sweet and the marg was actually fairly salty (not my fav) but super refreshing on a sunny day. Our only complaint is the briskets were lukewarm. The mac and cheese was tasty and not as warm either. The Margarita was on the spicy side and very refreshing. The Joint is definitely contending as one of New Orleans top barbecue places. With their numerous heavy duty smokers, you are sure to find some authentic, smoked barbecue here. They have a nice bluesy ambience, it is cozy, and intimate with lots of decor on the wall. I recently discovered that they have a lovely courtyard, with additional seating space. I really like that outdoor space and I recommend it if you want a more quiet, intimate setting from the indoors. The last time I went, I was pleased to notice their nicely stocked bar with local craft beers and various liquors. They also had two varieties of daiquiris, which I heard great reviews about on Yelp. We decided to grab a beer and a couple of plates, so we could try some different sides and head to their awesome courtyard. My friend ordered the pork rib plate and said they were delicious. I ordered the beef brisket plate with baked beans and a side of mac & cheese. My brisket was delicious and smoky, and the sides were pretty good too, especially the mac & cheese. I even like the little piece of toast they give you to sop up all the juice. Their barbecue sauce has a great flavor, but is a little bit on the watery side so I kept having to re-apply it to my food, but that was no big deal because they give you a bottle of your own to work with. All in all this was a nice barbecue experience, and better than most that I've had in the city.
