It's been a while since we've eaten here so we decided to give it another try. It took a while to get seated which was strange since the place was empty. We got seated and were given a menu. Lunch menu showed $12.50 for lunch. So we ordered a cashew chicken and a Kung Pow Pork. Came with soup, fried rice and spring roll. Meals were ok except they were a little strong on salt which we told the server about. We were surprised when we got our check we were charged $13.50 not the $12.50 as shown on the menu. This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. I am thankful for the east end location, it's way more convenient than driving to bardstown road. The space of the restaurant is cute. They have some awesome chalk drawings on the wall. They have a great patio and it's is dog friendly! They have a decent size menu and I've never had anything that I didn't like, and I've tried a lot of their selections. The food is always hot and delicious with so much flavor. You can tell it was cooked with love. If you're sick, you have to order the wonton soup, it will heal your soul. I have a hard time choosing,l what to order, most places we skip the appetizers but here I order at least two! The spring rolls and the crab Rangoon are my go to. Hubby loves the spicy wonton. As for entrees the orange chicken is a must try and any of the meats in the five flavors sauce. It's a tiny spicy but just the right amount to be a great flavor and not overbearing. I don't even want to say this but have to be 100% with you, while the wait staff is amazing and so kind the service can be slow from time to time....i refuse to drop my rating because of it though. Beautiful night for a patio dinner we chose Joy Luck on recommendation from a friend. Starters of veggie spring rolls and spicy wontons, both delicious! Wonton broth was amazing! Our waitress I do not remember her name, she told us sauces are made in house. Fresh Yes! Came here for the Beijing Roast Duck, as it is a dish I loved as a kid and haven't had it since then. It was excellent. Meat was moist and flavorful. The buns were soft and were a perfect size. The paper-thin super crisp duck skin and crispy green onion was a great contrast to the overall softness of the rest of the bite. The sauce is the sweet and salty piece that pulls it all together. Any future visits here would be because I am craving this dish. The rest of our meal was pork dumpling, soup dumplings, hot and sour soup and ginger salad, mongolian chicken. The soup dumplings had a good flavor but had a disappointing amount of broth inside. I expected atleast a spoon-fulls worth in each but the only had maybe a spoon full between all four dumplings. The pork dumplings were good as well but definitely not the best I have had. More in line with grocery store freezer aisle taste. Hot and sour soup had a nice salty, umami flavor but was lacking any heat. Ginger salad was large and overall tasted in line with what you would expect. Mongolian chicken was a good size portion (but should be expected for $15). The service was not bad. Only one waitress from what we could tell but it was extremely slow the night we went. Ambiance is not really what we expected; had an industrial feel inside and a mix of music from 80s-90s. Overall I would return but it would be mainly if I was craving the duck dish. This use to be a great spot, I don't one what happened but this was worst than buffet quality. Everything was definitely overcooked, lacked any flavor. I was so excited to try Joy Luck!! Stopped by for a lunch today to check it out. Food - I came specifically for the general Tso Lamb, and was initially super bummed that they don't have it. The next in line was Mongolian Beef (lunch special) ordered with fried rice. I also started with an order of pork pan friend dumplings. The egg drop soup was just right - lovely crisp crackers that complete the taste abs texture. Dumplings were tasty, and the sauce was epic, but they were quite cold when they arrived at the table (the same time as my meal - which was disappointing). The spring roll and plum sauce/mustard side was delish! Mongolian beef and fried rice was really well done, tasting just a bit of delicious char on the beef. I would def do it again. Building - cool area- found in a small strip of businesses. Clean, spacious, love the decor and chalk art on the walls. Service - Caitlyn was the only person I saw in the front - and she was handling 4-5 tables well. She was attentive and polite. I inquired about cocktails, and she said none until happy hour. 20 minutes later, I watched her serve a glass of wine to someone at the bar. After I inquired about WINE, she said yes, and brought some. I found it strange that I wasn't given that as an option, when I was clearly probing for an alcohol component to my relaxed lunch. As a positive- I did observe her drop the wine bottle cap into the glass of wine she just poured, and rather than trying to dig it out with a spoon, she was quick to just pour another glass. Although she could have been rushed, and trying to cut corners being the only server, she did the right thing! Ambiance - would like to come back at night, and when they have lamb. Visiting my sister in Louisville last weekend she recommended we try The Joy Luck for lunch as she said her friends rave about it. We were able to get a table for three right away around noon on a Saturday. Our waitress had good knowledge of the menu and was able to give good suggestions based on our preferences. I ended up ordering a ginger salad and the Mapo Tofu- both of which I really enjoyed! There is a really good weekday lunch special, but even on the weekend, the prices were reasonable for a lunch. All of the portions are large and filling. Our service for lunch was a little slow, especially considering the restaurant was not crowded. However on their website they've stated that they have had staffing issues due to COVID. read more

Here is the situation, I love all Asian food ... and have always been intrigued by the idea of fusion food. My first meal was Singapore Rice Noodles very tasty fusion leaning more towards Indian flavors. I ordered a second time. As great as the first time was, this time it was equally bad. We had Szechuan Chicken and Orange Chicken. It was nicely flavored ... but the chicken tastes like it had been in the fridge for 3 days - very dry and tough. The Orange Chicken was equally bad ... with the added surprise of 6 whole Chile peppers added in. Not an ingredient listed on the menu description. We tried the Joy Luck for a covid-era, takeout experience. My fiance and I are huge fans of Chinese food, and the Joy Luck is talked about so much that we had to check it out! Their original location in the Highlands was always a bit far for us, but opening their second location here made it much easier for us to stop by. You can order online through their website, and the process was super easy. By the time we dropped in to pick it up, it was ready. The menu can easily have something for everyone, and varies from casual meals to a bit fancier stuff. You can also build your own meal, which I thought was pretty cool!! I ordered the sweet and spicy ginger fish, which came off of their specialty menu. It was pretty good! It also came with rice, so it was a lot of food for the price. My fiance ordered the orange chicken, and it was sweet yet savory...both I could recommend! The fried rice that comes with it is really good.. better than your average. It's fairly sad we haven't returned to The Joy Luck since our original visit. It really is a good place for lunch or dinner. While in the area on a weeknight we placed an order for takeout. We got an order of chicken pad thai and (4) egg rolls. The pad thai had a good flavor and I appreciated the delicious extra sauce; however, not a lot of chicken. The egg rolls were light and crispy, but full of filling. Disappointed due to the overpriced food and small portions. My braised pork belly stew was a mockery to the true dish, the flavor was off and what you see in the picture is a scant amount of chopped up pork, that was all for $16. The Farmer's Beef was pretty good and spicy, however, portion was laughable. Sizzling chicken was okay, nothing special, comparable to regular take-out Chinese food. The only dish I would consider going back for is the spicy wonton appetizer. It came out looking more like spicy wonton soup. Don't let the color fool you, it's not as spicy as it looks, but it was pretty yummy. Overall, the food was okay, but I don't think we will be coming back here. Food just isn't exciting to me. I've been searching for a Chinese restaurant that will become "my go-to" and I've finally found it! I have no idea how I've missed out on The Joy Luck for so long, but I'm so glad I finally found it! My husband and I decided to eat in, because it wasn't overcrowded and seating was spaced out. I don't remember the last time I ate inside a restaurant, so it was pretty great! (Covid probs lol) We were promptly seated when we arrived, and our waitress was so friendly. I ordered General Tso's and my husband ordered Orange Chicken, and we both had steamed rice with it. Both meals were amazing! The chicken is coated in a batter that fries up so light and crispy, and the sauces were phenomenal. We also got a lava cake for dessert that was very good! read more

Living an hour from Louisville allows me to seek out places out of the norm. A doctor appt brought me up to this area. Quick serve and sit down chain restaurants nearby allows for a nice alternative with Joy Luck. This place fulfills a good hankering for quality Asian faire. A few items on the menu lean towards the belief that either the owner or chef have a Taiwanese background. If not, it would seem there's a inclination of Taiwanese, Szechuan, Cantonese flavors. Considering Hardin County leaves little to the imagination of flavors this was a very much welcomed surprise. There were a few items that intrigued me to the point that with expectation of delight on my choices would determine plans for another visit in the near future. With that said, they did not disappoint! I'm looking forward to finding reason to make the drive out this way again. Since items like crab rangoon, broccoli beef and sesame chicken are frequent items on Hardin County Asian menus, the goal was to step outside the box for something new. Sure enough... they had a few things. Jasmine tea to relax and a duck corn rangoon for my appetizer. Although there were a few "oohs" and "ahs" over uniqe entree items, I chose the Honey Walnut Shrimp. For anyone who has ever enjoyed a meal at San Diego's China Camp will agree they had one of the best Honey Walnut Shrimp recipes out there. Thus, the bar being set high had this restaurant's presentation up for the challenge. Although the price of the menu items were more than what I'd really want to pay, considering the demographics of the area, this is likely fair within the competition. Although I had the option to upgrade my rice to a choice of fried or brown style, I decided to stay traditional. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! Between the aroma and the taste it was a perfect match for my meal. The presentation was appealing and the only item left untouched on my plate was the beautifully carved radish, only because I'm not a radish fan. The rangoons came out with my entree. I likely would have preferred it before but may have filled up before I could truly enjoy my meal. Given the current capacity restrictions, I got to enjoy a quiet corner and delightful views of the decor. Although there are a couple of blemishes here and there due to wear and tear of chairs dragged against walls by guests (at least, my impression as such), the decor and mural were comforting and pleasing. If anything, less people allows more time to soak in the atmosphere. You'll see in my pics the signs on tables to show the blocking for proper social distance. I did leave two of my rangoons to take home and a small enough amount of rice that could not be left to waste. A day later and it was just as pleasing to enjoy. I'll have to try their 2nd location next time and see if they continue to pique my interest for additional future visits. They DO offer a military discount!!! :) read more

I haven't eaten here in a while but have always loved it! Tonight I tried it via DoorDash and the food was excellent. The Singapore noodles are spicy and delicious with plenty of taste and spice. I had them with chicken. Also tried the pork fried wontons which were good. It says it came with sauce but I didn't get any sauce for them. But they were still delicious. The Mongolian beef was excellent, spicy and the rice noodles on it were how it should be served but most places don't do it. I also sampled the fried rice which was also very tasty!! Excellent meal!! Definitely a bit more pricey than other Asian foods but worth it for something a bit different t and tastier! Glad I decided to try it. read more

First time in Louisville saw that this place was on the menu, which looked pretty authentic. Started with the fried duck wings, with a side of Schezuapn sauce, which had good flavor and was not terribly spicy. The wings come with three, one of us could not wait they looked that good. The chili wontons were good and, I enjoyed their broth, which was not over powered with chili oil. My son ate most of the fried rice, which he really enjoyed. The "Taiwanese" sausage tasted like your standard Chinese sausage you would get at an Asian supermarket, but the dish was very good. Bourbon chicken seems to be popular in Louisville so we tried that, the dish was served with a side sesame ginger salad which was very good. The bourbon chicken had a nice grilled sweet flavor, only complaint the portion was a bit small. The spicy ginger fish was excellent, I enjoyed adding the chili oil from the previous dish complimented the fish really well. Overall would definitely come back here if, I lived in the area. read more

Joy Luck is one of my favorite lunch spots. They have two locations. One out on Westport Rd and one on Bardstown Rd. To me the one in Bardstown Rd has the best food quality. I have had issues with this place before, but I decided to ask my husband to get me a to go order since he was in the area! When he got home I looked at the receipt and saw that they have a 10% to go order fee. He said he didn't know about it until after he paid. He also said he did not leave a tip , but there was a small dollar amount charged on the receipt. He brought a to go menu home. I ordered Sesame chicken and an appetizer of fried Pork dumplings. He got duck soup. The to go menu had Sesame Chicken priced at $14 and we were charged $15. I called and spoke to an employee on the phone and he said " sorry those menus are 4 years old, and we've raised the prices!" I told him they need to throw them away, and he said " I'll speak to management!" I think having 4 year old menus sitting out for to go orders is stealing. It's only a dollar but it adds up if someone orders 3 or 4 entrees. Just beware! This is shady business if you ask me! read more

Man, if you love Chinese food, this place is worth the visit. This branch is also close to the Interstate. For starters we had crispy fried duck wings and Taiwanese sausage roll, the former was ok, not much flavor. But the latter was full of flavoring. Very enjoyable. Main course were braised pork belly stew over rice, Cantonese roast duck, sweet and spicy ginger fish, and bok choy. Man, the Cantonese duck is a must have!!! The rest were also very good. Gluttony. We weren't done as we ordered spicy wonton and veggie pad thai (not pictured). The former was just ok, not much meat inside, but the latter was very good, better than Sawasdee's pad thai. We topped the night with chocolate lava cake. It was plain in taste, felt like it was just premade and microwave heated. We could barely walk out of that place as we were so full. Lastly, yes, they have paper towels in the restroom. A worthy of repeat visit when passing by KY. read more

It's been years since I've been here. I honestly didn't care for it the first time I went, but this time it was awesome! I accompanied a friend who had never been. It was lunchtime (but a Sunday) and because we would be getting dinner portions, we eschewed appetizers. I got the General Tso's chicken and it was honestly the best I've ever had. It was spicy and flavorful. Sweet but not overly so, and just really delicious. My only complaint (and it really *is* a complaint is that there were only about four small strips of bell pepper in my meal. (3 green and one orange.) There was enough broccoli (which I don't eat) and the hot peppers, (which I also don't eat.) Still, it was delicious! My friend ordered something new on the menu, which is pork belly miso soup. (They have about five or six kinds of miso soup, including tofu.) She really enjoyed it. (We had to look up a video of how to eat miso soup properly.) The service was good but quite European (In that you wouldn't want to try to hurry anything or anyone, just sit back and enjoy the experience.) I did get my meal about five minutes before my friend did, which was a bit odd, but we weren't in a picky mood and just went with the flow. When the waiter ran my check, he handed me a (digital) notebook device to sign, with certain tip percentages above the total. It was given to me with the 25% chosen. I generally tip 20% but honestly, it wasn't a big difference and I didn't want to be petty. I do think none should be chosen, or the smallest amount so that people can choose to raise it rather than to lower it. All in all it was a good visit, and I will return soon. read more

There was nothing even edible in my take out order!!!!! the crab Rangoon was not made with delicate wan tons, but. some kind of tough thick Chewy dough! The hot and sour soup had no flavor and had a weird slimy texture! awful!!! Now to get to the worse.... 18 dollar Mongolian beef. no sauce!!! .... and the beef was microscopic in the heavy weird orange fried breading. I spent over 50 dollars and it's in the trash. Placed an order at Joy luck this evening. Used their online app. I typically always tip on carry out just to help staff a bit. I added a tip to my order. After they show you your total and ask you if you want to tip. Be sure to check your bill. They added a four dollar "take-out convenience fee"! A fee for carry out is ridiculous. It's some of the most profitable business a restaurant can do. You're not sitting at a table, tying up staff, dirtying glasses, plates, and silverware. Takeout is endlessly more profitable than dine in. To add a "takeout convenience fee" is simply a money grab. Choose your restaurants wisely. read more

I was told that I needed to try this place, so when I finally got an opportunity, I took it and I was not disappointed! We ordered spicy wanting and pork buns. Both were absolutely delicious. The sauce on the wantons was on point. I wanted to just eat that sauce with a spoon. For entrees we ordered the short ribs which were so tender, they fell off the bone. But the real star was the duck. No, seriously, if you are reading this (and eat meat) get the Duck! The skin was crispy and the fat was just melted and made the duck so moist and juicy. I've long been a fan of the Bardstown Rd location of Joy Luck, but recently ventured out to their new one while headed to a movie at Tinseltown. I'm pleased to say that this second location has much of the same charm as the first, with the same great menu, to boot! I visited recently with a friend, and we were immediately greeted at the door up on walking in. We had our choice of a table since it was still early, and decided to eat at the window. Our server got to us almost immediately with waters, and we put in orders for appetizers. As we waited, we admired the building. Tall ceilings make the place feel spacious, but brightly painted walls and cozy booths keep it from feeling too cold. Even though it's in a newer building and doesn't have the same ambience as the location in the Highlands, it still feels unique and true to character. New location, new favorite food. The menu seems to be revamped recently, with the addition of some photos of different dishes. I saw one that looked delicious (it happened to be the Spicy Wontons) and decided that I wanted to try it for dinner. Although it's listed as an appetizer, with the addition of some white rice, it makes for a perfect entree for one. Delicious pork dumplings marinate in a spicy and savory sauce with some bok choy that is just perfect for a few spoonfuls of white rice. It was the perfect portion size, mix of flavors, and texture to keep me very satisfied. If you have yet to try the Joy Luck and the one out here is closest to you, don't hesitate to pop by for the same great experience that the Highlands location is known for. I love the Joy Luck. I've been a patron at their East End location since it opened. It's one of the places that I miss the most while we are all stuck at home. Luckily, they deliver through a couple different services and offer take-out! They have lovely cocktails (some of which are currently available to-go!!) and really great food. I suggest the Taiwanese sliders which are bao buns with your choice of filling--I always get the Szechuan Chicken. I also love the Ginger Salad which is a classic mixed green salad in their fresh and crisp ginger dressing. They also have Duck Corn Rangoons which are creamy and a fun, unique take on a traditional Rangoon. They do offer a variety of lunch specials which allow you to customize a full meal at a reasonable price. read more

I've had Joy Luck before for take out and it's kinda a jip. The portion size is extremely small on weekends, so I would suggest eating here for lunch instead. The price isn't bad sitting at about $10 for lunch on weekdays. But the portions are smaller than Chinese Tea Station in Norton Commons,..... although they have gone down in quality since new management came in. But anyway, lunch portions are still sufficient here. I don't want a heavy lunch. This is kind of like lighter Chinese food. I ordered the five flavor chicken which was basically chicken with carrots and zucchini in some kind of sauce that certainly didn't taste like it had five flavors. Because it was the lunch special, it came with a spring roll and wonton soup, mind you the wontons were stale. The rice bit is really small too. Anyway, it's good! But I'm not huge on Chinese anymore so eh! My friends ordered a plate of fried rice and the sesame chicken lunch order. All very good, but again if you do price comparison, not so much. The soup is a much smaller portion than at Chinese Tea Station... And it wasn't busy here at noon during lunch on a weekday... kinda weird. Do people mostly order take out? Are they too pricey?
