Went here on recommendations from several friends. It is basically your typical college sports bar located across from Murray Collage. Husband got the seafood gumbo and said it was great. This place is really hoppin on a Friday night! We waited for 45 min to get a table. As we waited we saw the food being delivered to tables and it looked great! We could hardly wait to be seated so we could go through the menu! The atmosphere is similar to a roadhouse, it's busy, loud and upbeat. Service was great and despite being packed the servers were very friendly and attentive. The menu has so much to offer - lots of variety! From seafood to burgers to fried green tomatoes there is something for everyone here. We ordered catfish, steak, chicken, Alfredo fried green tomatoes..everything was fantastic!! The salad that was fresh and crisp and the dressings - ranch and thousand island we're both great and tasted homemade - the chargrilled chicken and steak had wonderful flavor both were tender and juicy..the cole slaw was a great as well even though I don't eat a few at my table said it was the best they had ever eaten. The Cajun Mac n cheese was the only thing we didn't care for it was overcooked and the cheese was pasty it didn't taste like it was homemade ..:-( My father in law had the blackened catfish and said it was fabulous! The blackened chicken on the Alfredo was out this world! Everything else was also a hit! The prices are very reasonable - for shrimp skewer, 16oz ribeye, baked potato, salad, fried green tomato's, Pepsi, mac m cheese, slaw, chargrilled chicken the total was $56! So I've been here multiple times. The creole chicken was pretty good, but I'm not super into Cajun food. If I were to go back I'd get this. The fried shrimp poboy was recommended to me by a couple friends. Honestly it was not very good. There was just the shrimp, white bread, lettuce, tomato, and barely any sauce. They had a lot to choose from and being in LA last week, decided to try there gumbo as an app. Was a little different and not my favorite but overall not bad. For my entree I got the smoked brisket plate and man this was good. Ended up being a lot more food than I thought and had to take some back to my hotel. This place was highly recommended by the locals so my colleagues & I gathered for a group business dinner. We ordered an array of dishes since the menu is full of options, but most of us were extremely underwhelmed with our food. I ordered the Cast Iron Skillet Salmon which was tasty, but a little overcooked. It came with Red Beans & Rice & a baked potato. The Red Beans & Rice had no seasoning AT ALL!! This was a common complaint from most of the table. No seasoning. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried someone's cheese grits. Those were amazing! The grits along with how generous they are with their liquor pours are the only highlights I have for this place. This place is an amazing paradox: it looks, sounds, smells, and feels like a college dive bar, but lo and behold, the food is AMAZING!!! Murray is a convenient midway point between Paducah and Paris, so whenever we are in town visiting family, The Keg has become our standard meeting place and it has yet to let us down. The menu is all over the place (in a good way), covering the culinary spectrum from hand-cut steaks to smoked barbecue, creole/cajun to bar food, and thus far, it has ALL been good! Most recently I got the 20 oz bone-in ribeye steak with french fries and corn nuggets and it was one of the best steaks that I have ever had -- cooked to a perfect medium rare and just seasoned enough with cajun seasoning to not take away from the natural beef flavor. And the corn nuggets...MAN! Call me low class all you want, but they are AMAZING!!! Picture a ball of creamed corn wrapped in a thin layer of funnel cake batter and deep fried. Highly recommend!!! The main detractor from 5 Stars for me is the atmosphere. I get it, it's a dive bar in college town -- but they could spring for some slightly nicer decor and chairs that aren't painful to sit in. Also, they not only have a smoking section that is open to the restaurant, but the entire place starts allowing smoking at 9p; definitely something to take into account for those that may be allergic to smoke. Start with the crawfish bread! Also highly recommend the jalapeno margarita. We're foodies and aren't easily impressed when eating out. Had a great experience the last visit but this last time the wasn't the usual quality. First, service was exceptional, Everyone was very friendly! I was with my husband and another couple. We waited about an hour for a table. Now onto the star of this show: the food. I had the fried pork rinds, which are cooked fresh to order. Usually they are hit, crispy and well seasoned but this time there were a lot of hard rind pieces making about a fourth of my order inedible. The other couples food was brought out about 15 minutes before ours, in fact we actually had to ask for it because we had both ordered sandwich type meals. I ordered a seasonal special, the muffuletta. Which, normally I love but I only would take about three bites of the sandwich. Very underwhelming. My husband said his burger was pretty tasteless. If this was my first time here, I wouldn't bother coming back ...but I know I that they can do better. The other couple said they did enjoy their food. I had at least two hurricanes from the bar, which were very sweet, just how I like! I came here for lunch with my fiancé for the first time and ordered something I thought I would like. There was NOTHING wrong with it, it just wasn't what I expected so I asked if I could get something else and they were very accommodating and wanted only to make me happy. OMG! Loved this place. Best (or shall I say beast) steak in a 40 mile radius! I come through this area a few times a year and I've never found a great restaurants until now. It's off the beaten path but worth it. My steak was big enough to put a dent in world hunger and delicious! Stopped here to eat and a member of the staff came over to our table as we got our appetizers. She informed us that we had to be gone in 45 Min or we had to pay a cover charge for the band. We informed our waitress that we had not received our food yet and she talked to the manager and he said we had to pay the cover or they could give us our food in to go boxes. I would not recommend this place since they tried to extort a cover charge out of us before we received our food. They could have told us that before we ordered instead of trying to bully us into paying a cover for a band we did not come to see. There was nothing posted saying there was a cover.
